AVStream Dual Band Wireless N Router - 600 Mbps

It seems like everything uses the 2.4GHz band - Bluetooth®, Wi-Fi®, wireless phones, remote controls, etc., etc. The 2.4GHz band is getting crowded and slowing down with all these systems competing for bandwidth. Speed up your Wi-Fi internet access to where it should be with this AVStream Dual Band Wireless-N Router from Monoprice!

This router relieves the crowding on the 2.4GHz band by adding a second channel at 5 GHz. Your existing 2.4GHz Wi-Fi equipment can still connect at the 2.4GHz band, while your newer Wi-Fi equipment will be able to connect on the 5 GHz band.

This router includes three 10/100Mbps ports for direct connections and one dedicated IPTV port, which provides prioritized bandwidth for video streaming devices. Wirelessly, it provides up to 300Mbps throughput on each of the two wireless bands. The router combines the functions of a Wireless Access Point (AP), Router, Switch, and Firewall.

The router supports a number of advanced features, including support for a guest network, hidden/invisible SSID, and MAC-based access control. Wireless access can be easily configured using the WPS one-touch setup procedure.

    Features:

    • Complies with IEEE 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, 802.3, and 802.3u standards
    • Works on the 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz band simultaneously
    • Includes three 10/100 Mbps RJ45 ports for wired connections
    • Includes a dedicated IPTV port with prioritized bandwidth for streaming devices
    • Functions as a Wireless AP, Router, Switch, and Firewall
    • Supports domain name, MAC, and IP address filtering
    • Supports WEP, WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, and WPA&WPA2-PSK security protocols
    • Supports guest network
    • Includes support for Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)
    • Supports Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) streaming priority
    • Supports SNTP, WDS, UPnP, DDNS, and DMZ

    Firmware update
Everything works well, but I'll reaffirm what others have said:

"HOW CAN I get FIRMWARE DOWNLOAD????" -Jay

"Looking for a firmware upgrade. Can't find any tech sites for upgrade. Could not find any DNS Proxy or DNS Relay to disable in the router.

Over all good router except for being hijacked and used to broadcast spam by a hacker. Need a firmware upgrade. "

    PROS: Works well and easily.

CONS: Just got a call about security issues concerning this device. It sounds like the router simply needs a firmware update, but none is provided.

    Excellent wireless router
Excellent product very pleased with this purchase

PROS: I have had this router for a week now and it works great. When I got internet service setup with Comcast we plugged it right into the modem and its been working without a glitch ever since. It has not failed, crashed, cut off, spontaneously combusted, cursed, or ran away yet. I'm not great with electronics but setup was easy, the instructions with it are easy to use. In no time I had it setup the way I wanted. It's nice having some items items directly connected, some on the 2.4G, and some on the 5G. I signed up for the 25MB internet and with either connection with numerous items connected during peak times, I'm getting speed test readings from 22-27 down and 5-7 up. If there is any signal loss from this router it is minimal from what I can tell. This is a very sleek and attractive unit, and very small. Even the Comcast guy was amazed at how the unit looked and performed.

CONS: As the other reviewer mentioned, range may be an issue for bigger locations. I am fortunate enough to have this located in the living room on my main floor, behind my tv. It is the center most location for my house. My house is 1950 sq feet, with 3 bedrooms downstairs and a bonus above the garage. The bonus is the farthest away, shooting through 2 walls and a good guess I'd say 40 feet away, my signal drops to low/2 out of 5 bars. I'm still getting good speed test readings up there though, around 15-20. So it works great for me but much further I guess you would need something stronger.
It will not wash your car or mow your yard either.

Seems to work as well as name brand routers
Just wonder why it's so cheap.

PROS: Have had it about 3 months. Our Comcast internet service at that location is not constant so it's hard to do an accurate test.

    CONS: None

Seems as good as brand name routers
Can't figure out why it is so much cheaper than other routers!

PROS: Have had it 3 months. Our Comcast internet at that location is flaky - hard to run comparative tests.

    CONS: none

    Purchased two and working well
Overall, a solid router for the price. Have not run them for a long period of time yet, but cannot complain. There seems to be a nice compliment of options and settings built into the software.

PROS: Fairly easy to get operational. Have set up two in different environments and they are doing their job quite well. The antennas seem larger and more powerful than a standard off-the-shelf router.

CONS: I wish the antennas were removable, as I would like to be able to use these routers with a 9dbi or larger system.

The guest network seems hardlocked to 192.168.2.0/24 and did interfere with my existing network setup when I wanted to make one of them an AP without DHCP.

Overall great device but NO Removable Antennas!
I bought 2 of these for 2 different locations. Set up menus are much improved from prior devices. The only real problem I've encountered is the range. Even with great looking antlers they don't provide the adequate range I had hoped for. So I decided to buy some High Gain antennas to replace them with and 'LO and Behold', these antennas ARE NOT removable! I just assumed that such a great spec'd device, especially for Audio Video Streaming (hence AVS), would logically have this option. Its like having a sports car without having turbo!?? After chatting with a very helpful tech rep here for support, he was quite surprised as well. After being disappointed (yes they are going back) he recommened PID 8070 (Wireless 802.11N Router w/ WPS & WISP Function (300Mbps)) as this model is the only model with 300mbps that has the antenna replacement option. Good thing is I already own this model but it is used strictly as an access point (wifi repeater/extender) so I can plug in devices (such as Dish DVR Satellite receiver blu-ray player that doesn't have built-in wifi). I can vouch for that little unit and have confirmed that these Wi-Fi High-Gain Omni Directional RP-SMA Antenna (-9dBi) (PID 8748) do indeed fit. I have not tested performance yet but I'll write a review on them later. Thanks for reading, hope this helps.

PROS: looks pretty good, good menu navigation and setup/features, ok for normal range use (small area usage).

CONS: Cannot remove antennas if you would like to upgrade to higher gain or directional antennas.
Ethernet cable was defective, had to use my own on 1 of the 2 units.
Not great for long range or extended coverage areas.

Another great product at great price and fast shipment
Everything is stated above. I've had the MP 9918 router in another location for several months that's worked perfectly. (No problem hooking that up because I think I installed modem at same timeG. Just got this today. Ordered night of 12/18, shipped on 12/19, arrived 3 business days later on Monday 12/23. I'm not sure package deliveries are made to this bldg. on Sat. AND this is to Florida.

PROS: Good, clear lights with labels that tell you what each light indicates. Never saw that on a router before. Range seems as good as name brand, if not better.

CONS: I forgot to synch up modem with new router. It wouldn't work unless I plugged in this new router into old router port. Took up 10 seconds of MP online chat time (they answered right away) who told me to unplug modem for a couple seconds after connecting new router. Dumbness on my part - because I should know that the first step is to power down everything in a chain if it's not working. We all do that with cell phones. I didn't see anything about synching in instructions - but might be there.

    Fast, Reliable
This wireless access point has been great. It's fast and reliable and it's great having the use of the 5 ghz channel. It was very easy to set up and can do lots of things that I haven't even utilized. It's very customizable. Range has been good for me so far, but I live in a fairly small space and so I don't really challenge its capabilities.

PROS: Fast, Easy to Use, Reliable, Inexpensive

    CONS: Runs a little Hot

    5/5
Is this product only compatible with Windows? I'm trying to setup on my Macbook Pro and the Installation CD does not read on here. Everything seems to be working correctly except for the WPS LED which is not blinking at all. I believe that means it is not finished being setup. I have only macs in my home so I might return this and purchase a Netgear or something more compatible with Mac. Please advice anyone??

PROS: Don't have yet because I can't use it.

    CONS: Same as above

    shelf life router
After a year old, this unit seems to overheat it connects, but does not receive internet. I am now hard wired and my other wireless units can not be activated until I buy another wireless router.

PROS: Worked extremely well for about nine months

CONS: After about nine months our cable company would shut off my internet access stating my wireless router had a virus and I needed to reset it to its initial settings. This has happened five or six times and finally the router just stopped working.
