Mini DisplayPort 1.1 to VGA Adapter - White

Connect your mini DisplayPort equipped MacBook®, laptop, or PC to a VGA display using this Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter from Monoprice.

This is a passive adapter, which requires no additional power. It converts the mini DisplayPort video signal to a VGA video signal. Note that this is not bidirectional and therefore will NOT convert VGA video to mini DisplayPort. Also note that this does not support audio. The adapter is 6" long.

Note: This is a passive adapter and is therefore NOT suitable for AMD® Eyefinity installations. An active adapter, such as PID 5135, is required for Eyefinity setups.

    Works on most devices
This adapter works on most apple devices with a thunderbolt adapter as I have purchased over 50 of these. I am finding that on the 2012 model of the 13" MacBook Pro that it is not working at all. After plugging in this adapter on brand new MBP's it will either freeze the machine or not display anything to an external monitor

PROS: This adapter works on most apple devices with a thunderbolt adapter as I have purchased over 50 of these.

CONS: I am finding that on the 2012 model of the 13" MacBook Pro that it is not working at all. After plugging in this adapter on brand new MBP's it will either freeze the machine or not display anything to an external monitor.

Similar but Different to Apple Dongle
we run a bunch of these at our church. so far they've held up pretty well. we did a test on our projectors and the one difference between the apple dongle and the monoprice one is that there is a few seconds pause when you plug the vga into the apple dongle and then the picture comes through and the monoprice one shows a picture instantly but there is a flickr before it settles in. so if you're in a strict production environment you might want to go with the apple dongle to avoid flickering, but if you can tolerate a slight flicker, then go with the monoprice one. at home the monoprice one is sufficient.

    PROS: works well

    decent build quality

    CONS: slight flicker when connecting

    Uncommonly Bad Adapters
I have purchased several of these adapters the last couple of years. They are way cheaper than the Apple version but for an obvious reason. While they have all worked right out of the box, they have a very high failure rate. Several of them have just stopped working. Whenever an end user calls me and complains that his projector is no longer working, the first thing I ask him is if they have an Apple adapter or a Monoprice adapter. If they have a monoprice adapter I just tell them to throw it in the trash and bring them an Apple adapter. I usually bought them at least 10 at a time and stored them all in a drawer. When they fail I just toss them because I have no idea when they were bought or on which order. It's a shame because other than these adapters I have never had a product from Monoprice let me down. In fact, I will often recommend Monoprice to total strangers in a store when I see them about to purchase an overpriced cable from a big box store. I usually recommend Monoprice to all my friends, but in this case I can not recommend this particular product.

    PROS: They are inexpensive

    CONS: They are not reliable

    Works Great, Saves Money!
I give presentations on the road. A lot. As a responsible Mac user, I always travel with a VGA adapter, but too often I leave them in the presenting room and don't realize it until I'm back at the hotel (or worse: when I'm back home packing for my next trip!). I saw these here on Monoprice while looking for another cable and decided to order two. They have worked REALLY well, and several tech crews were excited to learn that Monoprice had these alternatives available.

    PROS: reasonably priced

    great quality

CONS: The color it isn't "Apple White"

Mac mini display port to VGA
The adapter works, it remains to be seen for how long. I'n our school environment! Often the Mac ones don't last much linger than a year. They get moved around shoved in bags, and generally taken for granted. The ease if splitting apart makes me worry about the Mono Price version. To try to for stall the problem, I have started
    Tightly wrapping electricians tape around
Them before giving them to teachers.

    PROS:
The main pro is price, it is half the price of the official Mac version

CONS: It is lightly made. It is clipped together and comes apart quite easily.

Works on my mac mini fine
Not sure why we are buying OEM stuff. Way overpriced. Works like it should on my mac mini. Way! cheaper than the OEM connector and every bit as good. Good build quality. VGA end larger than OEM stuff but no big deal.

PROS: Works like it should on my mac mini. Way! cheaper than the OEM connector and every bit as good.

    CONS: nada.

    Just Works
Simple cable, just works. I have a 2009 model unibody MacBook Pro and I use it to give presentations. This cable works just fine. The only possible reason you might not want to buy this cable is that it doesn't have an Apple logo on it.

Thank you Thank you Thank you.
I was going crazy at Amazon and Apple trying to find the right cable. Some sellers had the wrong pictures listed, some pictures didn't show the shape of the plug. Some people said the cable they received was the wrong one, or not made by Apple as listed. Even on Apple's website people said they cable died quickly or took forever to arrive. I thought about going minidisplay to HDMI or DVI then to VGA - but then there's diff. types of DVI plugs also - ugh. Finally I read the comments here on what I really needed, minidisplay to VGA. One person said they got their cable in three days! I'd already ordered one wrong cable so when I saw no restocking fee and lifetime warranty - I was pretty much sold. It took about a day for the tracking number to appear and over all it took about four days (excluding thanksgiving - so I mainly blame the Post office and us procrastinating consumers). I plugged it in (Mac book pro, '09) and it worked perfectly. Solved all my problems and anxiety. If only I had known about monoprice before now I could have saved myself days of researching on Amzon. My only wish is that I could have chosen FedEx for shipping - they do better in my town then UPS and USPS. I wish all business' ran like monoprice - I'd buy my lawn mower from them if they stocked them.
