PROS: Works perfectly with Thinkpad x220. Was able to get the sound out of it too without making any configuration changes.

THE PROBLEM: My Lenovo T400s laptop has a DisplayPort. The external monitor I wanted to connect it to had an HDMI port.

THE SOLUTION: The DP (DisplayPort) Mail to HDMI Female Adapter. Worked perfectly!

Works perfectly with my Lenovo X220.

I can now connect my Thinkpad 510 to both my home and office TV's via HDMI. Both sound and video work perfectly. Can't believe I was using my VGA port at bad resolution when this was available for such a low price!

PROS: Doesn't require power. Works perfectly.

CONS: none

Anyone saying it doesn't do audio obviously doesn't know how to set default devices. Completely satisfied, I would recommend monoprice to anyone thinking about it. 10/10

I ordered this for my Lenovo W520 because it has a display port output. I just connected the adapter to the TV with an HDMI cable and everything worked perfect with sound. I asked support before ordering if Monoprice carried a cable version of this adapter as this plastic one sticks out from the side. They said do not carry that version at this time. Overall very satisfied with the purchase.

Not much to say here except it worked perfectly and did exactly what I needed. I connected my standard HDMI cable between my TV and the output of my HP laptop (which is DisplayPort, hence the need for this adapter) and I had perfect video and audio. Money well spent. Thanks Monoprice!

this thing is great. i'm very happy with it. the only thing that will throw people, and only reason i knew about it was another post. with Display Port ++ (DP++ icon on laptop), to get the audio to feed it needs to be configured as the default audio device in Windows. not hard to do, just a bit 'odd' to do it. once that setting is done, instantly i had full A+V going through my home theatre.

PROS: - it works as hoped: Video and Audio at full 1080p

CONS: - a little bulky for a dongle
- making audio work is a bit weird

PROS: The "idea" of it works in that it connects a DP to an HDMI

CONS: Flimsy. If you attempt to move the TV at all, the adapter breaks quite easily. An actual cable works much better and is much sturdier and I've requested that Monoprice carry the cable as an actual new product.

Works great with my Lenovo W520 that doesn't have HDMI out. Passes audio through just fine.

MonoPrice review request/inquiry does not make it intuitive relative to how to submit the review once it is written.

PROS: Works like a charm with my Lenovo ThinkPad W520 Laptop (and its DP port) to transmit both audio and video to my Samsung HDTV using an HDMI cable no separate audio cable
necessary. An HDMI cable was obtained on an earlier order, also from MonoPrice.
This purchase for the adapter was "value competitive": i.e., the price was as expected from MonoPrice (very competitive), but more importantly, as the original mailing (shipment) never reached me, MonoPrice shipped a replacement utilizing overnight delivery. Don't know many companies, particularly these days, that would lean 'backwords" for such a small order. The prior experience is my definition of being "Value competitive".
I can't say enough about MonoPrice after more than several other purchases. Their Web page, their product selection, their price, support personel (by no means should personel be mentioned only forth ).
In conclusion, after several weeks had gone by and the replacement part already proven worthy, the original mailing (shipment) finally arrived........ which was returned to Sender.

Works great on my lenovo T510.

Used as a DisplayPort-HDMI converter for my Lenovo Thinkpad laptop. Works just fine for video and, with the help of a hidden program in the Lenovo drivers, audio.

PROS: Works as expected.

CONS: Seems a bit flimsy.

This is a simple plug-and-play adapter. Worked well as soon as I turned the monitor on. I will say it sticks out about 2 1/2 inches from the displayport on the computer. If you're one to be constantly plugging and unplugging things from the computer, I'd be concerned about accidentally breaking it. As I don't routinely go behind my computer, it's great for me.

PROS: Simple to use, works well, inexpensive.

I bought this to allow an older Dell laptop to be plugged into the HDMI port of a TV for presentations. I expected to receive the adapter in a small plastic bag "might" have some bubble wrap around it. I received a small box with a plastic tray that cradled the adapter inside. Much better packaging than I expected for the price.



It works great! No drivers to install. Just plugged it into the laptop and plugged the cable into the other end.

PROS: Easily adapts a display port to an HDMI port.

Packaging was bigger than expected.

CONS: Length of adapter could cause damage to the display port if the adapter is bumped.

I bought this for Dell E6510 laptop. plugged in, connected to HDTV and worked great with sound. Nice product.

Bought this to connect my Lenovo X220 (64 bit Windows 7) to an HDMI TV (VIZIO sv422xvt). Worked immediately upon plugging in and switching my TV input to the HDMI port. Carries video and sound. Easy to remove from laptop, just remember to hold down the small button on the dongle to release it from the laptop port. Don't just pull on the cable!

The item I purchased was $5 on their site, while it listed for $25 elsewhere. It stopped working after a few hours, which isn't necessarily Monoprice's fault. However, after it was all said and done, I spent 3-4 hours troubleshooting and trying to get some response from their customer service dept. (It seemed I was communicating with several different people who didn't know what the other person was doing.). The amount of time I wasted was frustrating, to say the least.

In the end I did get a product that worked (so far). While I may shop at Monoprice again, I will take my previous experience into consideration. My time is valuable, and that factor will be weighed into the equation.

PROS: Product VERY well priced, compared to other websites. The initial ship was good turnaround.

CONS: The product worked great for 1 week, then just stopped working. Tech support was slow to respond, then when responded the "to do's" seemed canned, and not necessarily specific to my issue. The communication wasn't clear, and it took nearly 2 weeks to get a replacement item.

While installing TV's as replacements for video display projectors in conference rooms I had a couple smaller and newer TV's that had no VGA inputs. The computers all supported DisplayPort so I was looking for an economical solution to convert between DP and HDMI. They worked but...
My customers have smashed 3 of these while moving their systems around. The adapter sticks out 2 1/4" and the plastic case housing the components is not very durable nor forgiving under stresses.

PROS: Price is right and the adapter worked as advertised. Both video and audio DisplayPort signals were passed to the HDMI input.

CONS: Might be fine for home but I'm looking for something a bit more rugged for the office setting.

The adapter passes 1080p video and sound from my Thinkpad W520. However, after a day it started to wiggle where the metal DP connector joins the plastic body. Fortunately, it is still working but who knows for how long. This unit really needs a cable to connect to the computer, to keep it from breaking and to relieve the considerable strain on the port.

PROS: It works.

CONS: It breaks.

I've had this adapter for about 6 weeks. Most of that time it has worked with no problems. My issue with it is that when I need to disconnect it, I may never get it working again. Here are the details:

1. Initial connection worked until disconnected.
2. Both TV HDMI ports have been tested and work with Roku
3. Both TV HDMI cables have been tested and do function correctly.
They are Ultra Slim Active High Speed HDMI® Cable with RedMere® Technology, 3ft and 6ft, from monoprice.com.
4. Laptop can see TV, but until connection is valid, only as a generic display.
5. TV shows "No Signal" - until it doesn't. Then it does show Vizio E40-C2, as it should.
6. Laptop, using DisplayPort with passive HDMI adapter,
a. Has successfully established connection to TV twice. Second connection attempt took forever,
and seemed like an accident once it did occur.
b. When connection from laptop to TV is established, it remains stable until cable is disconnected.
This has been true through multiple on/off cycles for both laptop and TV.
c. Getting TV to see laptop for reconnection has happened once, so far.

As part of my effort to get TV to see laptop, I've tried every combination of laptop and TV off or on while plugging in connectors. The one other time I went through this, both were on when connection was finally established. I have no idea why it did begin to work then. Today, I still can't get the connection up and running.

PROS: Initial connection came up and stayed in place through many laptop/TV on off cycles

CONS: At least once a month, I need to disconnect my laptop from my TV. Once that happens, getting the TV to see the laptop again is problematic .

Normally I rave about Monoprice's items and prices to my friends (I have been in I.T. industry for almost 25 years - can you local tech say the same thing?) We have bought over 5 of these for work. Only 1 survives to this day. I have had visitors destroy this taking it out of their laptops not knowing how. I have watched as a pillow fall on it, while a 50 ft HDMI cable is attached to female HDMI port, and it completely get destroyed. The problem is in its design. The frame is just too fragile for the pressures applied. The DisplayPort requires "teeth" to depressed to release from the port. The button is set at an incline, increasing the chance of failure. The frame is not strong enough, does not offer any strain relief to the HDMI side, so it must bear the stresses on both design.

CONS: Fragile!

This thing isn't worth the plastic it's made out of. I hooked up everything and it didn't even work. I even checked to make sure it wasn't my cable that was giving problems and it was fine.

PROS: None, it didn't work!

CONS: It didn't work, and it's not exactly cheap. I should've just gotten the $2 one I saw on Ebay.

First of all delivery to Canada took more than 2 weeks - understandable since its Xmas time. I did not expect it to pass audio but it simply does not work - tried several HDMI cables and nothing.

I would return but considering the shipping costs, its not worth it. Disappointed!!

i bought this a few years ago and put it on a laptop and it worked great. the day i went to remove it, it wouldn't come out. i had to practically rip it out of the back of the docking station and it almost destroyed the adapter. the plastic lever that releases the catch pins was so flimsy it wouldnt even push down the pins to pull the adapter out.



6 months later i drag it out to use on a new laptop, and it works for 3 seconds, i hear a crack at the docking station, and the plastic housing broke down the sides and fell out of the laptop.



i have used tons and tons of monoprice cables and adapters, but this one just feels like it was made in china at the cheapest cost ever. next time i'll use ebay to buy one or pay a little more for a quality product.

CONS: Weight of HDMI cables made the adapter fall apart.

This adapter is several inches long and rigid. What this creates is a condition with very high strain on the DisplayPort connector due to gravity and the weight of the HDMI cable connector being so far out from the DisplayPort connector. It works like a large lever pressing down on the DisplayPort connector. It's also easy to knock the adapter out of it's DisplayPort connector on a desktop if any of the cables are jostled around. The ONLY instance I can see this adapter working is on a laptop where the weight of the adapter would be supported on a flat surface like a table.

This product would be a perfect 10/10 if they instead designed it to be a short 4" cable with a regular DisplayPort and HDMI connector on each end instead of being a long, rigid adapter.

PROS: Does work to convert DisplayPort o HDMI

CONS: Poor design makes it nearly unusable

1st item broke after a couple of uses. Got RMA and received replacement. Replacement broke after one use. Thumb release doesn't work and device locks into computer port then pulls apart easily. just checked and can not return 2nd device.

CONS: Long Bulky and cheaply made

Bought it along with an HDMI cable (which is working fine, as usual from monoprice.com) to plug a computer acting as a media center to a tv.

Connected well to the computer and hdmi cable but only after a slight tension on the cable took the DP adapter component out the casing, broking the pins.



I would definitely not recommend this product to anyone.

They are extremely fragile and can end up damaging your laptop or device it's being used in. Do not buy these. Purchase a HDMI DP cable instead off Amazon or somewhere else. I don't know why Monoprice doesn't sell these.

Installed for customers conference room. I have one one a computer at home and it works like it is suppose to.

Does exactly what I needed it to do and seems to be of good quality. The price was great and the shipping went well. No problems. Overall a very good experience. Of course these types of plugs could always be smaller but I have no complaints

PROS: The adapter works fine.

CONS: I wanted to use 2 displayports to drive 2 HDMI cabled monitors. The adapters are too wide to fit side by side on the back of the new computer.

I went to Amazon to get two Displayport - HDMI cables that Monoprice does no carry.

I would not recommend this product. It felt cheap to start out, the first time I plugged it in, I had a hard time getting it out. Finally when I needed it most, all of the little pins pulled out and it separated from the connection. Needs a more solid design.

PROS: It worked.

CONS: The pins that secure it in got stuck and would not go down, I could not pull it out. Applied a little force and it separated from the pins.

Great product at a great price! Worked as I had hoped.

PROS: The display port converter is used with an HP 8540w laptop, and the device worked completely as expected. I connected an HDMI cable to the device and the HP recognized the monitor and the laptop was displayed on the TV/monitor very quickly.

CONS: No audio option which isn't a fault of the device, but a limitation of the display port. Perhaps a future version could have an headphone style audio connector as well. This would allow hooking the audio connector to the laptops headphone port in addition to the display port.

I got the adapter to connect my new laptop with a display port to my HDMI big screen TV in the living room. It worked the first try with no difficulty.
It is a bit long, so it stuck out the side of my laptop in a way that could cause it to break off. An improvement would be to make it a short "dog Bone cable" to allow some flexibility

I rarely do these kind of reviews, but in this case, the execution was flawless and I have no reservations about recommending this company - based on my limited experience with them.

My work purchased a new laptop for me and it didn't come with an HDMI port. It only had a DP port. My monitor only had VGA and HDMI (and since the monitor is 27", it doesn't make much sense to use VGA). I needed a solution fast because I need both my laptop and external monitor in order to get things done effectively. I found some really expensive ones at local places like Microcenter and Best Buy, but I was not willing to spend $30 on a simple adapter (even if I was going to expense it). I found this adapter on Monoprice and it looked like it would work for what I needed. I ordered it and less than a week later I had my external monitor up and working without any problems!

PROS: Worked great, no problems with the adapter. Low profile and works seamlessly inline. Shipped immediately and received very quickly.

PROS: This item is exactly as expected. It converts a Female HDMI to Male Display port.

Works as expected and at a great price. I have not had a single issue with it and I regularly connect my laptop to a 42" LCD tv via HDMI. I am ordering more for the rest of the people in my office.

I recommend it.

Works great on my IBM Lenovo Thinkpad T510 (audio and video) Like another reviewer said you have to manually go into the Sound settings inside of Windows Control Panel to select the sound to be played back through your HDMI device.

After recently buying a new TV with HDMI ports I searched for a way to connect my laptop. The Laptop has a DisplayPort and the TV has HMDI, Since I had HMDI cables I was looking for a quick way to adapt the existing cable to use with the DisplayPort.

I bought this because my laptop has a display port instead of a HDMI port - i wanted to display my laptop on my home TV. I plugged this in, plugged in my HDMI cable and instantly my video was on the screen and my sound was coming through my home surround sound. This is perfect and works great. I have already recommended it to some friends as well as the monoprice website.

My local Microcenter will happily charge you $29.99 for this dongle, which I needed to connect either my Lenovo W520 or Dell Latitude E6400 to a newer monitor without using a docking station. At about $8, this is a heck of a deal. I was so happy with the first one I got (and have been trekking back and forth between work and home) that I got a second one, so I can leave them both attached to their monitors.

PROS: Affordable way to connect DisplayPort-configured laptops (many current business laptops have this instead of HDMI) to HDMI-capable monitors & TVs.

CONS: Rigid design means cable stress is transmitted to the laptop connector.
