Recessed Pro Power Kit w/Straight Blade Inlet White

Use this recessed pro-power kit with straight blade inlet to install power and low voltage cables behind your flat panel TV, your amplifier/home theater receiver, or other audio and video devices to your equipment room or at the location of your head end equipment.

    WHY DO I NEED THIS?
Most local fire codes do not allow high voltage stranded power cables to be run behind a wall.  Therefore it is a violation to simply run your standard power cords through the wall.  Power cables for in-wall application should be solid core specifically designed for that purpose. Having an electrician come out and tap your electrical system to install an additional output behind your wall mounted display can be costly. This kit allows you to utilize an existing electrical outlet and bridge the power to your desired location. One plate is installed behind your equipment and the other along side an existing outlet. You connect the two plates together with some solid core power cabling you can find at your local hardware store. Then you plug your equipment into the extended outlet and use the included patch cable to connect the plate near your pre-existing outlet into the powered outlet. You can even plug in an electrical surge suppressor and/or line conditioner in between the powered outlet and the local input plate to provide cleaner, safer power to your equipment.

This kit includes two plates and one 6ft straight power extension cable.
Faceplate is 5.25" wide by 4.5" tall. Recession in the rear of the plate is 2.5" at it's longest point.

    Super handy, looks great
Clients love how clean it looks. It installs easy and comes with everything you need, except the romex. Even the high-voltage retro boxes are included.

Two things to watch out for:

The scoop for the low-voltage wires is tall. If you're installing this in a thick wall, like a brick wall, you might not have enough clearance to get the wires out the top of the scoop, since the top edge of your hole will basically seal off the port. If you're not careful, you can damage a thick HDMI cable before you know it. Check the clearance before you tighten up, and trim the scoop if you need more room.

Also, the outlet is recessed, which is helpful, ... but only if your TV has a straight plug. Some displays (notably Samsung) come with a right-angle "low profile" plug, which won't fit into the recessed outlet. You might want to order a replacement cord for the display, or be prepared to use a short extension cord if your display cord is wired-in.

    Perfect Solution
This kit provides the perfect solution to power your wall mounted unit and still use a central surge protector/power management device for all of your components. Although not illustrated or mentioned in the description, the kit comes with two single gang retro J-boxes for the electrical side. Plenty of room in the single gang cable drop side for three (3) in-wall rated HDMI, one (1) in-wall rated Toslink, one (1) Cat6, one (1) digital coax, and one (1) ctr. channel speaker wire.

A must buy if you want to protect your wall mounted TV without the expense of a wall mounted surge protector. Power Inlets are hard to find so having it in a convenient kit like this is a plus. Simply, this is a power bridge from your TV to a surge protector or power source using the extension cord that connects the inlet to live power. Its an up-to-code solution and I HIGHLY recommend it. Just be sure you are NOT connecting the INLET to live electricity from behind for very obvious reasons. You are using ROMEX to connect the outlet that goes behind the TV to the INLET right below. Thats IT. You then feed the TV power by connecting the INLET to live power (a surge protector) using the extension cord.

    Works Just Fine!
I installed an LCD in my family room using on of the 30-37 MonoPrice wall mount kits. I wanted to be sure the TV was powered by the power conditioner, therefore I needed a soultion for my wall mount. We had no trouble with the installation what so ever. Be sure to get some blue boxes so your safe and up to code. Be carefull not to screw it to tight or you will surely break the plastic.

The kit will have some templates, be sure to use them, a laser level also comes in handy. Ill be installing another power kit in my home theater room soon. I am a huge fan of MonoPrice...for my installs and other people I assist. GREAT Products, GREAT, service...A

Awesome and 1/2 the price of retail.
Installed in a an hour, looks very professional.
TIP: You can snap out the bottom AC "plug" and rotate 180 degrees so you can mount the low voltage opening facing "up" to match the down opening of the top plate.
Still need to purchase some NMD-90 for the AC between adapters, but no big deal...

You probably need something like this.
For anybody like me who was wondering how the heck an open-back electrical connection meets code, you do need to buy single-gang boxes for the power side. I almost didnt buy this product because I couldnt find any explanation. I was ready to buy a competing product until I read a review on a forum that explained this.

So if you look closely at the pictures, you can see that on the power side there are screws that attach to your electrical box, while on the low-voltage side there are tabs that will secure that side to the wall. So it does work well and meets code, just be aware you have to buy cable and boxes, which cost about $10-$15 total at most hardware stores.

The one gripe I have is that if you install both plates with the power and low voltage on the same side, you have to loop the bottom low voltage wires down and then up through the hole, which works but can make it more difficult to pull or remove wires after installation, not to mention risking kinking your cables. If you flip the bottom plate upside down you are then crossing the low voltage and power wires, which could cause interference. This is not a big deal but rather an annoyance Id like to see improved.

All in all a decent quality product that I recommend. It is against national US code to run your TVs power cable through the wall, and putting a regular outlet behind the TV means you have to buy a dedicated surge protector for the TV that will probably be difficult or impossible to cleanly mount if your TV is mounted very close to the wall. This is a simple solution that worked great for me.

This is an excellent product. Just note that you should use a blue junction box with this, just so youre in code. This product will fit into 2 gang, but you really only need one junction box. The other side has fasteners that attach to the drywall.

Instructions are excellent for this product and the install took about 30min

USE A MANUAL SCREWDRIVER TO INSTALL
Requires single gang junction box on power side to install, which is a good idea anyway. Single gang AV cable run hole is a bit small-ish. Quality of materials seemed really good right up until I screwed it into the wall. Managed to snap one of the anchor wings with my cordless drills clutch on the lowest possible setting. I set about replacing them with the stronger anchor wings from old construction electrical junction boxes I had leftover from a recent re-wiring of my house. Avoid this by just carefully tightening with a manual screwdriver.

    Great Buy
As always with every purchase from monoprice it was on time and right on prior to my cables being seen under my t.v for the last 3yrs inside a velcro wrap. I installed this kit in about 30 to 45 mins. Of course you have to buy the Carlon blue elec to meet code (fire hazard), the boxes fit was perfect make sure you use they supplied template for the cut-out. And remember to put into account the distance between the outlets. You may need longer cables to reach your components HDMI, Wii, Coax etc. Dont over tighten.

    Peace

    Works Perfect
This thing worked just as I had hoped. I didn't want to rip my wall open to run electrical, so this was the perfect solution. Easy to install as long as you have the tools.
Only complaint is that for the price you think they could include the 2 single Gang boxes you need and like 8' of 12/2 Electrical wire. It only ran me about $4-5 at Home Depot, but would have saved the trip and would be convenient to have everything you need in 1 box.
