I ordered this, but actually need the optical in to coax out converter. I'm wondering if they are the same product, meaning will the sound travel either way?

BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. The signal will only transmit in one direction. The converters will indicate which port is for input and which port is for output.

The Digital Coaxial (RCA) will be the input and the S/PDIF (Toslink) will be the output on PID 2947.

The S/PDIF (Toslink) will be the input and the Digital Coaxial (RCA) will be the output on PID 2948.
What audio formats does this unit support? Does it support 44.1 16bit? 48 - 24bit? 44.1 24 bit? 96 - 24 bit? There are no published specifications for what PCM audio bitrates this unit supports?

Does it support 5.1 sound in and out?

BEST ANSWER: I'm not sure. I have only used this to go from a digital music server into a distribution system, so have only used it for stereo applications

    Slick Trick
My Phillips 46" Flatscreen only had a Digital coax output. I needed to hook it into a Vizio SoundBar. This conveter worked wonderfully. I was happy to see that MonoPrice made such a unit. Very good product. Works flawlessly.

    PROS: Does exactly as advertised.

    Optical Toslink Digital Audio Converter
I bought a new DVD player which did not have optical output. My amplifier had only optical. I bought the digital audio converter to allow me to get digital audio again. I plugged the converters power unit into the back of the amplifier so that it is not always on, but only when I need it when the amp. is turned on.

Works as described. No issues with the product. I did not know this product even existed until I type-in a search to see if such a converter was available. I`m very glad it was.

    best buy sucks
I bought a new flat screen tv with a coaxial output for sound only and my surround sound had a optical input only. So I went to best buy with my problem and they told me their was nothing on the market to fix it.. I would have to but a new tv or surround sound system. Then I went on line and found monoprice selling a coaxial to optical converter for @$11. Not comfortable with purchasing products online I went to the local Radio Shack and asked them about the product and they said that they can order it and it would cost $25. So I decided to take a chance and it WORKED!!! Thanks to MonoPrice! They saved me a lot of $$$$

    Worked Great simple solution
This is a great product at a fair price. It would be ridiculous and sad to be forced to upgrade your surround sound receiver just because no coaxial audio in. Especially since optical is just as efficient at conveying digital audio as coaxial.

PROS: Worked great to get digital sound from my DTV receiver (coaxial out) to my Sony Home Theater (optical in) machine.

CONS: Yet another thing to be plugged in...though unavoidable to have clear digital audio. This is not really a con I just wish it were not true.

Worked perfectly out if the box. Simple application.

PROS: Simple application, worked out of the box. Plug n play.

CONS: None really. Wish there wasn't a need for the AC power adaptor. Getting crowded behind mounted bar TV

    Solved my problem
Great little device. Has helped me to get Dolby Digital sound out of my dvd player, which only has coax digital out. The device is as simple as hooking up the cables (which you have to buy separately). This was very inexpensive, and worked immediately - no instructions needed. Only con is that when plugged in, it ia always on - but this is a minor issue.

PROS: Allowed me to go from a DVD player that only had co-ax digital out, to a receiver with only toslink in.
    Easy to set up
    Small device

CONS: If you leave it plugged in, it stays on all the time

    Works as advertised
It worked as advertised as an optical audio adapter, in my case from a TV with coaxial audio output to a sound bar with an optical audio input. I just connected the cables, plugged in the AC adapter, and that was that.

    PROS: Compact, works

    CONS: None
