PROS: It works exactly as advertised right out of the box. Just plug it in and put a hard drive into it.
I will keep the dock as a spare to use in one off situations but it will not stay on my desk as a daily driver.
PROS: The dock is well constructed and on my iMac it was plug and play. Speeds are comparable to my other (Voyager brand) usb3 dock.
CONS: Drive will not go into sleep mode and spins 24/7.
PROS: Crazy fast transfer speeds through USB 3
Reads the SDHC card out of your camera
Reads USB sticks
Did I mention USB 3 SPEED!
CONS: Short power cord
Used it heavily with 2 different drives - a 750 GB Samsung and a 1 TB "green" WD. Both drives were recognized immediately and worked beautifally. I also briefly tried it out with a couple of others, including a 2.5" laptop drive I happened to have sitting around. Those worked great as well.
In the past I've had some other devices (a bit older and USB 2.0) that allow attachment of HDD's that were extremely flaky. Drives and/or the device itself wouldn't be recognized, or would for a while but then would go "off air," etc. But again - over several hours of heavy use with various drives this thing has been rock solid.
Almost forgot - I also tried the SD card reader the other day to grab some pics from my digital camera. As I hoped, that worked great as well and the speed was awesome. USB 3.0 is the real deal!
PROS: Fast, reliable
CONS: Yet another power brick, but not much way around that since USB 3 can't power the drive.
I would buy from this company again only because the products are good and the prices are great, and now I know what I am up aganst when dealing with them..
You must be business savy with this company, but just think of it as buying from a flea-market.
PROS: My computer found the 3.0 usb hard drive adaptor device automatically.
sends data super fast (I have a usb 3.0 adaptor card installed in my pc)
the feature that I really love is the extra usb and flash card ports on the front of the reader, never seen another reader like this one here. the usb reader works fast and has never given me a problem.
CONS: This was a replacement for the original 3.0 usb hard drive adaptor that I had originally received, every time I plugged the power supply into my wall outlet,
sparks flashed out. I sent the device back for a replacement, I received the replacement, but monoprice claimed that they never received it, so I was forced to pay for the replacement, lll I paid twice for a defective product. I asked monoprice.com to refund me once the defective product was received, I never heard back from them until the company asked me to write a review for the product.
In all honesty, the product is fantastic, but if you must return something please send it back by certified / registered mail .. this way you get a receipt and when they tell you that they never received it and want to re-charge you for the replacement ... you will have something to stand behind.
PROS: Works well, USB 3.0 is super fast has lots of card slots. Comes with a fairly long USB 3.0 cable
CONS: Is light weight and tips over easily. I secured my two units with double sided tape on the bottom. No problems now.
PROS: Works as advertised. Very fast. I bought a USB 3.0 PCIe card to go with it: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10304&cs_id=1030405&p_id=8089&seq=1&format=2
CONS: Wish it had a micro SD slot (it does have a SD slot and I can use a converter)
PROS: Only the SATA hard drives runs at USB 3.0
The card reader runs at USB 2.0 speeds so if you are photographer and have GB of pictures then you need to get a true USB 3.0 card reader.
PROS: The unit performs well. The build is okay.
CONS: CF Card would not go into CF Slot. Tried two different manufacturers' cards: Fuji and Sandisk. SATA hard drive never really feels like it's well-seated but apparently it is.
PROS: Not sure yet. I expect it will work if/when I get the right USB cable
CONS: The rocket scientist who packs the boxes at the manufacturing end included the wrong USB cable. The device requires USB 3.0 A male to A male connector. They included a 3.0 A male to B male connector. No local retailers carry the 3.0 A male to A male cables, not radio shack, not Best Buy nor Walmart...nobody.
