Can it work with Sata III?
    A shopper on Jan 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this will work with SATA III drives since the interface is the same. This device has a USB3 connection so it should be very fast. It is quite noticeably faster than my previous USB2 device.

Works but drive won't sleep. Gets hot
I have this dock along side of a Voyager S3. I normally would have bought another Voyager but decided to give the monoprice dock a try and save a few dollars. I wish I had just stuck with the Voyager as it spins down after xx minutes of inactivity. The monoprice dock does not and gets extremely hot and sometimes drops offline by itself. The voyager has not even hiccuped once in 3 months of service. From what I have researched, it is a function of the chipset and can't be overridden by computer software to force the drive to spin down. If the chipset does not support it, it won't happen.

I will keep the dock as a spare to use in one off situations but it will not stay on my desk as a daily driver.

PROS: The dock is well constructed and on my iMac it was plug and play. Speeds are comparable to my other (Voyager brand) usb3 dock.

CONS: Drive will not go into sleep mode and spins 24/7.

    Great Product & Great Value
This unit is much like a similar unit that I bought from Monoprice for e-SATA. This one includes USB 2 as well as a card reader. The USB 3 is just as fast as any other USB 3 as well as being as fast or faster than e-SATA. I have not used any of the software that came with it. I prefer to use my own so cannot comment on that.

PROS: It works exactly as advertised right out of the box. Just plug it in and put a hard drive into it.

    CONS: None

Memory reader is not USB 3.0
    4/5

PROS: Only the SATA hard drives runs at USB 3.0

The card reader runs at USB 2.0 speeds so if you are photographer and have GB of pictures then you need to get a true USB 3.0 card reader.

    Pretty good but be careful
Very pleased with the dock which allows for external attachment of multiple disks, USB accessories and memory cards. It's well laid-out and easy to use. I kept a 3.5" drive in the bay for about a year. One evening I smelled the "electrical burning" smell. It was the drive burning up in the bay. I own one for my personal computer and another for our video-editing Mac. We no longer keep a drive in the dock on the editing computer. We just use it to backup files and then we remove the drive. It's GREAT for that and you can't beat the price

PROS: Easy, fast, convenient. Allows you to add drives to your computer externally

CONS: Cheap access door breaks off. It's used to hold up a 2.5" drive so when the door breaks off the smaller drive wants to fall over.

Don't leave a disk in the drive for extended periods of time. The dock made the drive so hot that it ruined a 1TB drive and burned up the dock.

    Great value that delivers
I've had great performance from this.. sustains large transfers at over 70MB/s - up to 95, 100. Really impressed with this, no drivers needed, plug and play with Win 7 64bit.

PROS: Crazy fast transfer speeds through USB 3
Reads the SDHC card out of your camera
    Reads USB sticks
Did I mention USB 3 SPEED!

    CONS: Short power cord

    Works great, fast
Have had the unit for about a week now and used it to do quite a bit heavy file copying for many hours. Since I was putting together a very nice, portable and inexpensive way to house 4 TB of data with product 8672 (USB 3.0 dual drive enclosure), I needed a way to get data from various SATA drives I had laying around onto that other device. This unit made that extremely easy - just pop in a drive, let Windows recognize it, and fire up robocopy.exe.

Used it heavily with 2 different drives - a 750 GB Samsung and a 1 TB "green" WD. Both drives were recognized immediately and worked beautifally. I also briefly tried it out with a couple of others, including a 2.5" laptop drive I happened to have sitting around. Those worked great as well.

In the past I've had some other devices (a bit older and USB 2.0) that allow attachment of HDD's that were extremely flaky. Drives and/or the device itself wouldn't be recognized, or would for a while but then would go "off air," etc. But again - over several hours of heavy use with various drives this thing has been rock solid.

Almost forgot - I also tried the SD card reader the other day to grab some pics from my digital camera. As I hoped, that worked great as well and the speed was awesome. USB 3.0 is the real deal!

    PROS: Fast, reliable

CONS: Yet another power brick, but not much way around that since USB 3 can't power the drive.

Great 3.0 usb hard drive adaptor
I don't like that the company doesn't have a tole-free number, and talking to them on line ... they arn't too swift... I chatted with an on-line reperesentitive about the issue, explained the whole matter, only to be asked "what would you like for us to do" takes too long and you must constantly repeat things untill they get it.

I would buy from this company again only because the products are good and the prices are great, and now I know what I am up aganst when dealing with them..
You must be business savy with this company, but just think of it as buying from a flea-market.

PROS: My computer found the 3.0 usb hard drive adaptor device automatically.
sends data super fast (I have a usb 3.0 adaptor card installed in my pc)
the feature that I really love is the extra usb and flash card ports on the front of the reader, never seen another reader like this one here. the usb reader works fast and has never given me a problem.

CONS: This was a replacement for the original 3.0 usb hard drive adaptor that I had originally received, every time I plugged the power supply into my wall outlet,
sparks flashed out. I sent the device back for a replacement, I received the replacement, but monoprice claimed that they never received it, so I was forced to pay for the replacement, lll I paid twice for a defective product. I asked monoprice.com to refund me once the defective product was received, I never heard back from them until the company asked me to write a review for the product.

In all honesty, the product is fantastic, but if you must return something please send it back by certified / registered mail .. this way you get a receipt and when they tell you that they never received it and want to re-charge you for the replacement ... you will have something to stand behind.

Works well but tips over easily
I would recommend this unit. Bought two, first one worked well with windows 7 64 bit. Second one the hard drives would not show in windows explorer but the card readers would. Contacted monoprice for a replacement. Received it in less than 48 hours and it works very well too.

PROS: Works well, USB 3.0 is super fast has lots of card slots. Comes with a fairly long USB 3.0 cable

CONS: Is light weight and tips over easily. I secured my two units with double sided tape on the bottom. No problems now.

    Gerat product
Fantastic product. Very fast. Even though it's not listed, I tested this with Windows Server 2008, R2 SP1 64 bit and it works well.

PROS: Works as advertised. Very fast. I bought a USB 3.0 PCIe card to go with it: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10304&cs_id=1030405&p_id=8089&seq=1&format=2

CONS: Wish it had a micro SD slot (it does have a SD slot and I can use a converter)

    Docking Station Good, But....
My biggest concern was the CF card slot: I couldn't get several CF cards to go into the device. It seemed to be aligned improperly. I don't care for me because I am not using the slots for memory cards, but I am sure some of you will not be too happy with that. Maybe it's just a fluke.

PROS: The unit performs well. The build is okay.

CONS: CF Card would not go into CF Slot. Tried two different manufacturers' cards: Fuji and Sandisk. SATA hard drive never really feels like it's well-seated but apparently it is.
