Problem solved on Win 7 64-bit
I had the same stupid problem with "error code 10" after installing the latest drivers from Prolific that everyone else listed. A Monoprice RMA support person referred me to the driver at the following link, which worked for me. It had the error immediately after I ran the installation, but it started working a moment later (apparently it took a moment for Windows to get it going after the installation).

    Works on Vista/7 64 bit
First off, there are working Vista 64 drivers for this, they can be found here:
I saw this URL at another vendor's website, and I've confirmed they work on Vista 64 SP2.

I had issue with the fact the receptor screws were not removable, I had to remove the ones on my receiver, but I got it plugged in and working. This is controlling my Onkyo TX-SR805 perfectly with EventGhost.

    Windows 7 64bit
Took three hours to find the right drivers. Get them here for Windows 7 64bit.

    PROS: Works great.

Works great! Make sure you go to the website to get the latest drivers...go to Downloads and select MCS7703 at hxxp//
Different drivers for XP Vista32/64 etc. After installing go into device manager and select which COM port you would like to use. NOTE you must plug the usb cable into the SAME port each time in order to keep the COM port assignment. Also use the safely remove usb device before unplugging the cable just like with a flash drive.
Also if you are using to update a satellite STB make sure you check whether the unit should be in standby instead of boot mode when using the usb to serial converter.

Works under Linux without installing drivers. It has an interesting issue in Win7 where it will receive data but not send. It's probably some driver issue that's my fault though.

Does not work with Windows 7 64 at least
Contrary to the item description, this adapter does NOT work with Win7 64 bit. Even the packaging it comes in does not mention Windows 7 support at all. I loaded the driver and it would not start. I kept getting the Code 10 error. According to the hardware ID in device manager, it appears to have the Prolific 2303 chipset. According to the Prolific web site it is either too old for Win7 or it is a counterfeit chip. Just search the web for PL2303 driver and check out the RED print on their web site. Prolific recommends on their web site to use devices with the PL-2303HX rev D or PL2303TA chips. I already setup an RMA and kudos to Monoprice for responding quickly. I would like to see you update the item description accordingly or at the very least prove how you got it to work on your Win7 64 and 32 bit computers.

    PROS: Inexpensive

CONS: Does not work with Windows 7 64 bit, did not test with 32 bit.

    It works and its cheap
I got this to use on my Procede V4 in my 335i and it works flawlessly. I haven't had any transfer time out or errors on a Windows XP machine. I haven't tried it with any other OS though. The only downside is the drivers CD. I don't know if the drivers can be downloaded in case I lose my CD.

    PROS: It works

    CONS: Driver CD
