4-Port USB 3.0 HUB w/ AC Adapter - 5V/3.8A
Maintain SuperSpeed connectivity for all your external USB devices with this 4-port USB 3.0 Hub from Monoprice!
This hub features four USB 3.0 ports, which are capable of reaching speeds of up to 5.0 Gbps, while at the same time maintaining full backwards compatibility with USB 3.0/1.1/1.0 devices. It comes with a 5 VDC, 3.8A power supply, allowing it to provide the full 900mA power output required for self-powered devices (e.g., 2.5" portable hard drives) on all four ports.
The hub measures only 4.5" wide, 1" high, and 2.8" deep. It features power and activity LEDs on the front, so you can always know the status of your connections. It uses a USB 3.0 micro-B connector for the connection from the computer, so it can only be connected to a USB 3.0 port.
It has power. It has a nice long cable for plugging it into your machine and putting this on your desk. It works every time. Basically the review to me on this would either be a 1 or a 10. It does exactly what it's advertised to do, and it does it for a lot less than every other one I saw out there. I'm happy.
PROS: It's a USB 3.0 hub with power.
It does the hub thing really well
CONS: It doesn't plug itself in.
I found the USB 3.0 cable too short, another foot on it would be great.
I have had occasional drops with this unit, but they appear to have been related to initial setup.
This is based on the Via Labs 812 chipset, rather than the more common 810, or 811 chipset. This could potentially be an issue in terms of post sale service, and firmware updates as I do not believe Monoprice is the actual manufacturer of this unit. With the D-Link USB hub I have (810 based), I can use the 810 firmware from a different brand of USB hub though as D-Link stopped supporting it.
Speed (more than 200MB/s over USB 3.0 to a 2-HDD RAID-0).
Power ( More than enough power to charge an iPhone and iPad)
CONS: Occasional drop outs.
USB cable may be too short.
"Cons: proprietary USB-3 cord with plug - can't be reused for other products."
FYI, That's a USB 3.0 micro cable that came with it. It is not proprietary. It is a standardized cable, and is used on such devices like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Note 4.
PROS: Looks nice, comes with Micro USB3.0 cable for data transfer/charging supported devices.
PROS: Nice USB hub if you want to use with Windows 7. Nice looking design, and good quality.
CONS: Couldn't get working with Raspberry Pi.
Although most stuff from Monoprice has been good to me this is the exception.
CONS: stops working
PROS: Works well with my late 2012 iMac.
CONS: None so far.
PROS: Plug n Play. works great. cost effective
CONS: not free
This hub works great. Its durable too, as while I was unpacking I dropped it about 5' onto concrete and it only suffered some minor cosmetic damage.
