BEST ANSWER:SATA cables are backwards and forwards compatible. The devices on either end is what determines the link speed. A 6Gb/s controller and a 3Gb/s device will operate at 3Gb/s. 3Gb/s controller and a 6Gb/s device will operate at 3Gb/s again. The cables used between have little to do with the actual link speed (unlike Ethernet or HDMI in testing)

Braiding keeps things tidy and concise, works perfectly in my Unraid build
I ordered two of these for an Unraid build, connected to a LSI 9211-8i controller and their length was perfect for a Define R6 case. The braiding that goes halfway was awesome from a cable management standpoint, and kept the interior of the case clean and organized. Plan to order these again in the future.
I purchased several of these cables to connect an Intel SAS expander to the SATA backplane in my server. The cables work as advertised and I have no issues with them. However, Monoprice makes two different versions of this cable - the one I am reviewing, and another (Product 8192) that has a right-angle connector on the end. For some reason, the right-angle version includes a sideband cable, which is needed to pass information such as temperature from the backplane to the controller, but this version does not. Given that the right-angle cable would physically not work on my expander, I had no choice but to buy this one, but now will have to purchase dedicated SGPIO cables to direct-connect to my motherboard. If not for this shortcoming, this would be a 5-star review.
PROS: Works as advertised, adequate length and flexible.
If you have SAS cards and need them to talk to SATA drives, this is one of the best options. It takes a SAS8087 connector and converts it to regular SATA connectors. SAS HBAs are interoperable with SATA.
PROS: - inexpensive - 4 ports of SATA from 1 SAS port
I can not even use this cable. My enterprise drives does not have anywhere for the metal clips to attach to. Yes that is a fault with the drives, but the sata connector is extremely loose on any of my drives. Even if my drives could utilize the clips the connector is just too loose and I would not trust. I loose connector can potentially cause drive dropouts. The cables are also much thinner than other cables I have. This is the only cable I have purchased to date on monoprice that I can not recommend.
PROS: blue
CONS: very loose connection on drive. cables are flimsy. unusable for me.
works as advertise. nothing wrong with the cable thus far since it's only been a little over a week. bought it for my new NAS. connecting the cable to my ibm serveriad m1015 (cross flashed to IT mode with lsi p16 fw). bought 2 cables one for use now and the other when i get my 4 other drives :P
PROS: price!! delivery (since i'm in state :D). just works.
This one's a FORWARD cable, so if you're looking to connect your SATA drives to your LSi/Dell PERC SAS controller, this is the one you need. But don't confuse this with a REVERSE cable for backplanes (like I did), which, is wired differently but otherwise visually identical. Wasted 10 bux on fleebay due to my ignorance.
The individual blue cables are thin, but everything is working fine so far. I'm not familiar with other cables of this sort, but they may be just as thin. Overall this is probably a great cable for the price. It arrived way quicker than expected and is working just fine.
PROS: Not familiar with cables of this type, but it's working so far in my raid 5 array on an lsi 9266 with 3 x 240gb ssd drives.
