3ft 32AWG Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable - White

Connect your DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort sources and devices with this bi-directional cable from Monoprice!

This cable has a standard sized DisplayPort (DP) connector on one end and a Mini DisplayPort (MDP) connector on the other. The cable is bi-directional, which means that you can use a DP source with a MDP monitor or a MDP source with a DP monitor.

The conductors are made of pure copper and the connectors are gold-plated for improved connectivity and corrosion resistance. Additionally, it is well-shielded to prevent stray electromagnetic (EM) and radio frequency (RF) signals from interfering with your data.

Important Note! This cable supports the DisplayPort version 1.1, which does not support audio and has a maximum data transmission rate of 8.64 Gbps.

DisplayPort v1.1 * Does not support audio

BEST ANSWER: ah yes so i went over to try - and silly me, the Apple Thunderbolt monitor exposes a mini display port which obviously does not fit into this (full size-) display port adapter haha.
I am hoping to use this plus the DisplayPort => Mini DisplayPort cable to use an iMac in Target Display Mode. Has anyone successfully achieved this, with this or other adapters, from a late 2016 MacBook Pro?

BEST ANSWER: It depends on which iMac. According to Apple's document HT204592, "Use your iMac as a display with Target Display Mode", only 3 categories of iMacs support Target Display Mode: iMac (27-inch, Late 2009), iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010), iMac (Mid 2011-Mid 2014). All of those three can use Thunderbolt for Target Display Mode. Only the first two (2009, 2010) will work with DisplayPort. The 2011-2014 models require Thunderbolt. For Thunderbolt, you'll want the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter and a Thunderbolt 2 cable. Note that the Thunderbolt adapter does not pass DisplayPort signals, so you may want the DisplayPort adapter anyway to use non-Thunderbolt displays.

Not Compatible w/ MacBook & Dell Monitor
When connecting to my Dell U2410 everything would work fine for a little while until the monitor goes into power save mode, at which point the only way to turn the monitor back on was to physically unplug its power cable. There's a lengthy discussion of this issue here, http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/p/19343365/19738525.aspx In essence, Dell claims this cable does not fully comply with the DisplayPort spec and therefore isn't correctly powering the monitor back on. I've since switched to this: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10246&cs_id=1024604&p_id=5999&seq=1&format=2 it works just fine.

I use it to display my Macbook (aluminum, late '08) on my Dell U2311H monitor. It works perfectly.

CONS: The mini-DisplayPort end could use a small mark to indicate the "top" of the input for convenience when plugging in.

Happy as can be. Using 3ft cable from a 13 inch 2011 MacBook Pro to a Dell U3011 with no noticeable problems.

Does not work with NEC PA271 and MacBook Pro
I bought this to connect my MacBook Pro (March 2010 model, has a Mini DisplayPort) with a NEC PA271W monitor (has a DisplayPort) but have not got it working.

The monitor does not power on when the computer is connected to it using this cable. However, when I connect the same using an adapter (PID 5714), there are no issues. According to NEC the cable is not correct (http://www.necdisplay.com/cms/documents/UserManuals/DisplayPort_Notice.pdf)

Also see http://www.luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?topic=47259.0 for additional info.

PROS: Monoprice (as always) was very helpful with processing a return and issuing a refund.

CONS: Does not work for my application.

13" Macbook Pro to Dell Ultrasharp 2410
Cable works just fine. Can use my dell monitor as a second display in Mac OS or Windows. However, 3' is too short to place a Macbook on the left hand side of a monitor, you need a 4' cable for that. Otherwise, perfect length for placing a Macbook on the right hand side of a monitor. Also works with Mac Minis which have mini-displayport

    PROS: Works!

CONS: It was too short to place my Macbook on the left hand side of my monitor...

    PROS: Good price. Works correctly.

    CONS: None noted.

    Perfect
Properly connects my Alienware laptop (w/ Display Port) to my iMac, using the iMac as a second monitor at full resolution (2560x1440). Short, no excessive length of cord on the desktop. Long enough to reach a laptop placed on either side of my 27" iMac.

PROS: Does what it's supposed to do.

    CONS: None.
