    Access Series 12AWG CL2 Rated 2-Conductor Speaker Wire, 250ft

Get the most out of your home audio system with high quality, oxygen-free, pure bare copper speaker wire from Monoprice!

This speaker wire features two conductors made of high purity (greater than 99.95% pure), oxygen-free bare copper. Pure Bare Copper is a superior conductor to the copper clad aluminum (CCA) conductors used in most other inexpensive speaker wire. CCA is only about 68% as conductive as pure bare copper. This additional resistance is added to the impedance of your speakers and can negatively effect the sound.

For the wire to have no audible effect, the total wire resistance should be no more than 5% of the lowest impedance of your speakers. Even speakers rated for a nominal 8-ohms, may dip to as low as 4-ohms at some frequencies, which further reduces the total cable resistance allowed in the wire. Using Pure Bare Copper speaker wire ensures that the total load put on the amplifier remains as close as possible to the impedance curve of your speakers.

For example, a 16AWG 2-conductor Pure Bare Copper speaker wire has a total resistance of 0.803 ohms per 100 feet (both directions must be considered). By comparison, a 16AWG 2-conductor CCA speaker wire has a total resistance of 1.181 ohms per 100 feet. Assuming 4 ohms is the lowest impedance of your speakers, a speaker wire run can be no more 0.2-ohms total. 20 feet of 16AWG Pure Bare Copper would be 0.1606 ohms, well under the 0.2-ohm limit. On the other hand, 20 feet of 16AWG CCA would be 0.2362 ohms, well OVER the 0.2-ohm limit.

Each conductor is jacketed with color-coded PVC for easy polarity identification. The entire cable assembly is jacketed in a white, CL2-rated PVC material. The CL2 rating indicates that the cable complies with fire safety and insurance requirements, making it safe for use inside the walls of residential class buildings.

I'm looking to run 12AWG in the walls and thru brushed wall plates straight to my speakers. Is this wire flexible enough in 12 gauge that I can route it cleanly outside of the walls? In one area, I might plan to run it along the baseboard and do a 90 degree turn after securing it with a fastener. Just want to determine how realistic this is. Thanks!

BEST ANSWER: The cable is definitely flexible enough to make a 90° bend. You might have to play with it a little and get the two wires to lay flat against the wall to get the bend perfect. The stranding is very fine so I'm not at all worried about breakage. It is a little bit thicker than phone cable though so it's not gonna disappear as well.
what is the weight and dimensions of the Access series 12 AWG CL2 rated 2- conductor speaker wire 250ft when packaged up for delivery?

    Cable
I used a 250' roll of this cable for a 7.1 speaker system hook-up. When connecting the speakers I found a wrinkled spot in the cable that looked strange. Luckily I had enough excess cable hanging out of the wall so I cut off the damaged piece and inspected. After removing the outer cover I could see that it was acually a splice where the cable had been repaired, twisted together, and was covered with heat shrink tubing. I estimate it was approximately 180' into the roll. I wouldn't have a problem recommending this cable to others, overall it was not a problem, though I have never seen anything like this before.

    PROS: Good price

    CONS: The cable was spliced

Don't spend more than you need to
Hey people, don't be fooled into buying all the brand hype out there and spending mega money on over priced speaker wire. This stuff works and works very well. I run old audiophile stereo equipment from the early 70's and when I built my new barn (man cave) I bought mono price speaker cable to pre wire the building for my stereo setup. It was super easy to run with the outside jacket on it and I had no problems with installation at all. And the sound from my system is awesome. I went with the 12 gauge since I had a couple of long runs and used the monoprice wall plates to terminate where my speakers would be. You could spend more and I don't think you would hear any difference in the quality of sound, get it, you won't be sorry

PROS: Flexible, economical and it's very high quality.

    CONS: none

Where else can you get 250 feet of CL2 rated 12 awg for $80? No way thats going to happen at the brick and mortar places. Running the wire is very simple. I have used it throughout my theater for 11 channels. I hooked up the 4102's yesterday and listened to them. They sounded great.

There is no need to buy expensive cables at high prices. (MONSTER or BLUE HEAVENS) the sound quality difference is pretty minimal. Speaker wire can be a snake oil industry. Fortuneately there is places like monoprice. Quick and packed well shipping, amazing customer service, can't be beat.

PROS: This is high quality at a fantastic price.

CONS: This is high quality at a fantastic price.

The greatest thing I loved about this cable is the feet markings on it starting from 0 to 250, making it much easier to cut my lengths without a tape measure.

    Speaker Wire 12ga
This cable was considerably more flexible and easier to work with than other CL2 rated cable (gray jacketed) that I have used for past speaker installations. It has a higher strand count and the insulation seems more flexible, which really helps in minimizing the stress on the back of the receiver where all the speaker wires converge. I was also pleasantly surprised by the 250ft spool price given current copper prices.

    Two minor nitpicking points:

    1) the white jacket is not a problem for in-wall installation, but black sleeving may be necessary for the exposed segments in dark-room installations.

    2) This is really nitpicking, but a larger diameter spool would make the cable less prone to unruly coiling near the end of the spool.

    PROS: Higher flexibility than expected

    High copper strand count

    Good price

    CONS: Nothing significant

    great deal and great product
The product was very well made, 2x12AWG speaker wire, nice clean copper, jacket was looser than some I used before but was actually a benefit. It was also marked with the amount of feet left on spool.

    PROS: Quality, price

    CONS: none

    Great Value
If you're running a 7.1 or 7.2 (something with 4 rear channels) this is probably overkill in terms of the footage. I'm running 7.1 and I had a ton of leftover. 100ft would be sufficient to bi-amp the fronts, run center channel, and run 4 rear channels.

PROS: Incredible price for some seriously nice wiring. Wanted something good to run through the walls for my rear surround channels.

CONS: Once stripped, the wire itself is quite thick. So much so, that it would not fit into my "clip style" surround speakers. I had to trim back some of the strands so that it would fit. Really, I was running it through the walls, so some overkill in terms of gauge was warranted. Another minor complaint is that the jacket is white and stands out like a sore thumb. Is it too much to ask for a black jacketed wire?

I was refered by Dale Rascoe who has a blog on home theaters, I really trust his judgment and as usual he is correct on who gives good service and good prices.
