Does 2747 wire have a direction of flow? - The wire I am replacing has arrows indicating which end hooks to the amp and which end to the speakers. I have always assumed it had lower impedance in one direction vrs the other.
A shopper
on Oct 30, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Copper and other wires are non-directional. The only thing that might have been directional in your past experience was the type of connectors or plugs on the ends of pre-made connecting cables. This is plain wire you cut to length and install your own connector plugs or strip the ends for bare wire connection.

There are no arrows that I saw on this cable when I installed it. I did not pay attention to direction of flow, yet they make a huge difference when I upgraded from 16 ga.

If I'm running 12 AWG CL-2 wire in my walls, should I stick with the same cable from my binding post outlet from the wall to my speaker? Or would there be a problem to use this wire from the wall to the speakers? I think this wire would stand out less than the bright white sheathing. Thanks for any insight you have.

BEST ANSWER: The best solution is to keep the speaker cable from wall exit to speaker jack hidden.... don't leave too much extra wire coming out of the wall (but make sure you can connect it to speaker easily and enable later speaker movement/adjustments that you expect). Make the wire exit the wall so it is least visible from most common sitting location in the room. Other options include painting or wrapping the speaker wire in tape to color match to the wall. Check for paint that adheres to vinyl, or use colored electrical tape or shrink tubing. Good luck!

Unless you are running HUGE speakers, these will work fine. But anytime you have a wire connection you run the risk of introduction sound issues (crackling, etc).

BEST ANSWER: I don't think this particular wire would be suited for outdoor use, but it might work. The only reason is because of the coating. It's thick and not cheap by any means, but I don't know how it would hold up in the long run when exposed to moisture. I'm using them for several home theater speakers as well as a desktop 2 channel setup. My setup would be considered somewhat high end', just for reference and they work great. I would contact Monoprice directly just to be sure. Hope this helps and good luck!

What's the difference between the "enhanced loud" and the "choice series" copper wire?

Monoprice Choice Series 12AWG Oxygen-Free Pure Bare Copper Speaker Wire, 50ft

Monoprice 100ft 12AWG Enhanced Loud Oxygen-Free Copper Speaker Wire Cable - (No Logo)
BEST ANSWER: It appears the Loud series has a resistance of 7.2ohms/km. while the Choice series has a resistance of 5.69ohms/km. The resistance of the speaker wire run can be added to the impedance of a speaker. For shorter runs, not really significant. Not clear on why the Enhanced Loud would enhance bass more than the choice, if that is what the claim is.

You would have to to get a per foot impedance of each cable to be certain and it's not listed for either ... the only way a wire itself affects sound is by adding more resistance to the circuit which can change the response curve of a speaker, unless they somehow made the wire of even purer than the "99.95% purity copper" of the choice series or managed to fit more stands in the same AWG I don't see it being any different.
That said, IF it does have a lower impedance the difference would be insignificant at best (likely inaudible outside of soundproof lab conditions) The more important thing is to get a wire that is appropriately sized and up to any applicable codes for your application, like fire rated, and I would suggest oxygen-free pure copper, because clad aluminum will have a higher impedance and be more likely to change the sound.

Just keep it away from any electrical wiring in the vehicle. Also use shielded signal cables if you run this wire with them together

Monoprice Choice Series 12AWG Oxygen-Free Pure Bare Copper Speaker Wire, 50ft

Monoprice Nimbus Series 12AWG 4-Conductor CMP-Rated Speaker Wire, 100ft
BEST ANSWER: I used the 12 gauge O2 free cable to drive my 7 driver, 4 ohm, Legacy Audio towers. plus the center. They are plenty efficient and the Outlaw Audio amp has plenty of power to drive them so I did not feel the need to bi-amp them. The cable is high quality and priced way below anything else close. I ran 14 gauge for the 8 surrounds and Atmos speakers too.. The sheath was almost too thick for my cable trays. Again, very high quality.

Depends on what you want to use it for. If you need plenum rated cable, then the Nimbus is for you. If you intend on laying the speaker wire on the floor, the choice series is perfectly fine cable. The Nimbus can carry multiple pairs of wire, thus making the cabling in a ceiling or under the floor easier, no need to do two or more cable runs. I cannot comment about the effect of crosstalk on longer runs.

Excellent, affordable speaker wire. Worked very well for my needs. It's not 10,000 dollar speaker cable, i.e., I didn't see God while listening to music through it, but it was still pretty good, especially considering the cost.
