Choice Series 12AWG Oxygen-Free Pure Bare Copper Speaker Wire, 50ft

Get the most out of your home audio system with high quality, oxygen-free, pure bare copper speaker wire from Monoprice!

This speaker wire features two conductors made of high purity (greater than 99.95% pure), oxygen-free bare copper. Pure Bare Copper is a superior conductor to the copper clad aluminum (CCA) conductors used in most other inexpensive speaker wire. CCA is only about 68% as conductive as pure bare copper. This additional resistance is added to the impedance of your speakers and can negatively effect the sound.

For the wire to have no audible effect, the total wire resistance should be no more than 5% of the lowest impedance of your speakers. Even speakers rated for a nominal 8-ohms, may dip to as low as 4-ohms at some frequencies, which further reduces the total cable resistance allowed in the wire. Using Pure Bare Copper speaker wire ensures that the total load put on the amplifier remains as close as possible to the impedance curve of your speakers.

For example, a 16AWG 2-conductor Pure Bare Copper speaker wire has a total resistance of 0.803 ohms per 100 feet (both directions must be considered). By comparison, a 16AWG 2-conductor CCA speaker wire has a total resistance of 1.181 ohms per 100 feet. Assuming 4 ohms is the lowest impedance of your speakers, a speaker wire run can be no more 0.2-ohms total. 20 feet of 16AWG Pure Bare Copper would be 0.1606 ohms, well under the 0.2-ohm limit. On the other hand, 20 feet of 16AWG CCA would be 0.2362 ohms, well OVER the 0.2-ohm limit.

One side of the clear outer PVC jacket is marked with an easily visible blue stripe to indicate polarity.

BEST ANSWER: I have no friggin idea. It was on sale and i needed a bunch of wire to reach the space. The sound seems the same but be warned this is real thick wire for most connection posts. I had a hard time inserting in the speaker post holes.
Is the 2747 solid copper or cca? Some reviews stated it was cca.

BEST ANSWER: Looking at the ends of the wires, they appear to be pure copper. They perform beautifully.

BEST ANSWER: I used the 12 gauge O2 free cable to drive my 7 driver, 4 ohm, Legacy Audio towers. plus the center. They are plenty efficient and the Outlaw Audio amp has plenty of power to drive them so I did not feel the need to bi-amp them. The cable is high quality and priced way below anything else close. I ran 14 gauge for the 8 surrounds and Atmos speakers too.. The sheath was almost too thick for my cable trays. Again, very high quality.
Is AWG number for a single conductor or for entire cable (2 conductors)? I.e. 2 conductors 12 AWG each or two conductors 12 AWG total?
    A shopper on Dec 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Single Cable - each wire is a 12 AWG conductor
Is AWG number for a single conductor or for entire cable (2 conductors)? I.e. 2 conductors 12 AWG each or two conductors 12 AWG total?
    A shopper on Dec 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Each conductor is #12awg. The overall cable size is ~3/8" wide and a little over 1/8" thick.
How many strands are in the Choice Series 12 AWG cable?
    A shopper on Jul 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. The Choice Series 12 AWG Speaker Wire will have a strand count of 87 wires.
I don't know too much about speaker wires, but want some really good sound in the car. Would these be a good choice for car audio (no differences that would result in interference, artifact, etc)?
    A shopper on Jun 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. You would have no issues using this speaker wire for your car audio installation.

Good enough for me (and probably you)
There are two kinds of good speaker wire.

One is good quality copper wire which does everything you would think speaker wire should (transmit electrical impulses with adequate current and low resistance). That is exactly what this wire does. For good quality copper wire, you can buy it here, or pay a lot more if you like it to have fancy colored insulation or a brand name (you know, the things that go bump in the night). 12 gauge is thick enough for about everyone (exceptions would maybe include high current electrostatic speakers or the like).

The other kind of speaker wire is the high-end exotics which can often go for hundreds to even thousands of dollars (yes, it's true). If these are for you, get off this site and go down to your local high-end audio store.

For me (and probably you) this wire is probably as good as you will get at any big box or hardware store at a better price.

    Good enough
I need good speaker wire for runs of about 40, 60 and 70 ft for front, side and rear channels in a media room. I use Gallo Accoustics Micro Ti's for my side and rear channels and AudioKinesis Prismas for my fronts. No center channel because the peculiar design of the Prismas yields a perfect center image from my receiver's phantom channel mode across 8 ft at the listening position everyone on a sofa hears dialog coming from the center of the screen while left and right channel effects appear exactly where they should.

Sound is exactly what I expected and my audio measurements are perfectly symmetrical the speaker wire is everything that I expected for the money. This speaker wire does not have the marketing machine behind it that Monster cable has you can expect superior performance from this cable than a Monster cable product, just not as nice packaging.

If you need to run long distances with the wire and you want to future-proof your installation, this is suitable wire. It can handle much more current than I will ever pump through it (my Prismas can handle 500W sustained... but neither my amp nor my ears can). I have no reservations recommending this wire for a high performance media room.

    PROS: Obvious polarity marking
    Flexible for 12 gauge
    Fine individual strands
    Quality construction

    Oxygen Free Speaker Wire
Great cable for the money - may be able to beat it with a cable that has more strands, but cannot swear to that.

PROS: For the money, this is exceptional speaker wire. I have been using Kimber Cable 8-wire cable since 1996 and decided to experiment a bit, making my own. I'm still evaluating, but must say that I am impressed with what I've heard thus far. While this cable may not be quite as smooth as the Kimber, it would be great for most people that are using cheap, thin stuff. It is worth every penny.

CONS: None that I can think of, especially considering the price.

    Excellent Quality
Excellent quality speaker cable. I ordered 12 AWG 50 ft cable and used it for my surround back speaker. I had Onkyo 6.1 HTB and recently upgraded with Onkyo 7.1 S9100THX HTB and needed cable for my 7th speaker. I used Monster cable for all other speakers and for this speaker I wanted to try this 12 AWG speaker cable and it exceeded my expectations. Similar quality as Monster cables for very low price. I stongly recommend this cable.

    12AWG speaker wire
Hmm, measures 49.5 ft so it's short of the 50" claimed - I am used to companies providing at least what it advertised.

As for the 12AWG. My references say the 99 ft (looped back) should have a resistance of 0.0795 ohms. Mine measures 0.982 - so it's somehwhere between 12 and 14 AWG.

The 14 AWG I bought from Phillips measures 0.1273 (should be .1262) so my metering seems right.

So It's "ok" but not premium.

    Good Speaker Cable
Overall, nice speaker wire. If I had realized it wouldn't fit the banana plugs I ordered (which say they will accept 12ga wire) I would have probably gone with 14ga because the wire runs weren't too long.

PROS: Nice and thick wire with thick insulation

CONS: The insulation would not fit into the monoprice closed screw type banana plugs (PID 2801), so you either have to strip the insulation back the entire length of the plug (plus what's necessary to make the banana plug connection) or you have to shave down the insulation.

    Thick
These speaker wires are beastly. I was not expecting them to be so solid and unforgiving. It's excessive for my 2" run, but I don't even care it makes the system feel solid and secure.

    PROS: Thick
    Solid

You really can tell the difference!
I switched from generic 16AWG to the Choice Series 12AWG pure copper and was amazed how clear the difference was.
