Choice™ Series 12AWG Oxygen-Free Pure Bare Copper Speaker Wire, 50ft

Get the most out of your home audio system with high quality, oxygen-free, pure bare copper speaker wire from Monoprice!

This speaker wire features two conductors made of high purity (greater than 99.95% pure), oxygen-free bare copper. Pure Bare Copper is a superior conductor to the copper clad aluminum (CCA) conductors used in most other inexpensive speaker wire. CCA is only about 68% as conductive as pure bare copper. This additional resistance is added to the impedance of your speakers and can negatively effect the sound.

For the wire to have no audible effect, the total wire resistance should be no more than 5% of the lowest impedance of your speakers. Even speakers rated for a nominal 8-ohms, may dip to as low as 4-ohms at some frequencies, which further reduces the total cable resistance allowed in the wire. Using Pure Bare Copper speaker wire ensures that the total load put on the amplifier remains as close as possible to the impedance curve of your speakers.

For example, a 16AWG 2-conductor Pure Bare Copper speaker wire has a total resistance of 0.803 ohms per 100 feet (both directions must be considered). By comparison, a 16AWG 2-conductor CCA speaker wire has a total resistance of 1.181 ohms per 100 feet. Assuming 4 ohms is the lowest impedance of your speakers, a speaker wire run can be no more 0.2-ohms total. 20 feet of 16AWG Pure Bare Copper would be 0.1606 ohms, well under the 0.2-ohm limit. On the other hand, 20 feet of 16AWG CCA would be 0.2362 ohms, well OVER the 0.2-ohm limit.

One side of the clear outer PVC jacket is marked with an easily visible blue stripe to indicate polarity.

    Oxygen Free Speaker Wire
Great cable for the money - may be able to beat it with a cable that has more strands, but cannot swear to that.

PROS: For the money, this is exceptional speaker wire. I have been using Kimber Cable 8-wire cable since 1996 and decided to experiment a bit, making my own. I'm still evaluating, but must say that I am impressed with what I've heard thus far. While this cable may not be quite as smooth as the Kimber, it would be great for most people that are using cheap, thin stuff. It is worth every penny.

CONS: None that I can think of, especially considering the price.

    Awesome!
What a great product! I plugged it in and sounds awesome - better than the one I had before! Momoprice has quality stuff at very affordable prices - and they keep you informed of delivery the entire way...what more can you want? I've been telling all my friends about their website - I will continue to do business!

    Excellent Quality
Excellent quality speaker cable. I ordered 12 AWG 50 ft cable and used it for my surround back speaker. I had Onkyo 6.1 HTB and recently upgraded with Onkyo 7.1 S9100THX HTB and needed cable for my 7th speaker. I used Monster cable for all other speakers and for this speaker I wanted to try this 12 AWG speaker cable and it exceeded my expectations. Similar quality as Monster cables for very low price. I stongly recommend this cable.

    Good Speaker Cable
Overall, nice speaker wire. If I had realized it wouldn't fit the banana plugs I ordered (which say they will accept 12ga wire) I would have probably gone with 14ga because the wire runs weren't too long.

PROS: Nice and thick wire with thick insulation

CONS: The insulation would not fit into the monoprice closed screw type banana plugs (PID 2801), so you either have to strip the insulation back the entire length of the plug (plus what's necessary to make the banana plug connection) or you have to shave down the insulation.

    Better than Monster?
I've had some 14AWG Monster cable connecting my 5.1 mixed Boston setup to my Onkyo TX-DS696 receiver for the past 10 years. After a recent move I needed some extra length for my left and center channel speakers. This 12 AWG cable is amazing! What a great value. I still have the 14AWG driving the other 3 speakers in the setup. I can't hear a difference between the two so they are of comparable quality. I know the Monster stuff is overpriced. Get the equivalent at Monoprice and spend your money on something that actually matters.

PROS: Thick and high fidelity. Keeps out interference from other cables nearby.

CONS: Check that your speakers can accommodate 12 AWG cables. I connected these to a Boston HD9 bookshelf speaker and found that the speaker's wire clips opened barely far enough to get these cables inside the wire junctions.

It's speaker wire. It works. It's inexpensive.

    PROS: Good quality, price

Good enough for me (and probably you)
There are two kinds of good speaker wire.

One is good quality copper wire which does everything you would think speaker wire should (transmit electrical impulses with adequate current and low resistance). That is exactly what this wire does. For good quality copper wire, you can buy it here, or pay a lot more if you like it to have fancy colored insulation or a brand name (you know, the things that go bump in the night). 12 gauge is thick enough for about everyone (exceptions would maybe include high current electrostatic speakers or the like).

The other kind of speaker wire is the high-end exotics which can often go for hundreds to even thousands of dollars (yes, it's true). If these are for you, get off this site and go down to your local high-end audio store.

For me (and probably you) this wire is probably as good as you will get at any big box or hardware store at a better price.

    Good enough
I need good speaker wire for runs of about 40, 60 and 70 ft for front, side and rear channels in a media room. I use Gallo Accoustics Micro Ti's for my side and rear channels and AudioKinesis Prismas for my fronts. No center channel because the peculiar design of the Prismas yields a perfect center image from my receiver's phantom channel mode across 8 ft at the listening position everyone on a sofa hears dialog coming from the center of the screen while left and right channel effects appear exactly where they should.

Sound is exactly what I expected and my audio measurements are perfectly symmetrical the speaker wire is everything that I expected for the money. This speaker wire does not have the marketing machine behind it that Monster cable has you can expect superior performance from this cable than a Monster cable product, just not as nice packaging.

If you need to run long distances with the wire and you want to future-proof your installation, this is suitable wire. It can handle much more current than I will ever pump through it (my Prismas can handle 500W sustained... but neither my amp nor my ears can). I have no reservations recommending this wire for a high performance media room.

    PROS: Obvious polarity marking
    Flexible for 12 gauge
    Fine individual strands
    Quality construction

    Great wire, great price!
I bought this wire to run to my surround speakers, I have actually yet to do this though. I have however ran probably a 5 foot wire and replaced my old speaker wire which was poorly labeled on a receiver I have in my bedroom. With speaker wire, you really won't ever hear a difference as it is all looking for conductivity - and despite what some snake oil salesman would tell you wire is not "one way" or anything like that. You pretty much pay for looks and the stiffness of the wire - to some people it's super important. In my bedroom system, I can hear no difference - but the wire works fantastic and the nice part is that I have so much left over for any future needs.

I have some 12 AWG wire from Blue Jeans Cable and despite these both being rated at 12 AWG, the BJC wire is MUCH MUCH harder to move. When wiring something like banana plugs the BJC wire is PAINFUL to bend - comparatively the Monoprice wire is more flexible. I don't honestly think there's a difference in sound quality to be heard between the two cables - but I'm using the BJC cables on my main system. I paid probably $30 for 30 ft of BJC wire or so - for less than half that I have almost twice the wire from Monoprice! Value for money, while both are good Monoprice is the king!

If you need speaker wire, buy this stuff! No need to spend hundreds of dollars on cables that do the same thing, only if you need something capable of running 4 or 2 ohms do you need to start looking at something even thicker than 12 AWG. I'm an audiophile and can easily recommend this cable to anyone out there thinking about buying. It's fantastic quality and it's super cheap! Where else can you buy good cable for 25 cents a foot?

    Great Quality Wire
Overall, I am very happy with this wire. It's very thick wire and can handle a lot of power. To be honest, it was probably overkill for me. I almost wish I had purchased 14AWG wire instead - it would have fit inside the banana plugs better. But this stuff is really great wire.

PROS: This is really high-quality copper wire, very thick, great price

CONS: It separates a little bit too easily
