6ft Premium 3.5mm Stereo Male to 3.5mm Stereo Female 22AWG Extension Cable (Gold Plated) - Black

The 3.5mm (1/8") stereo TRS connector is more commonly known as the Headphone Jack on portable mp3 players and mobile phones. This cable features a male 3.5mm stereo (TRS) plug on one end and a female 3.5mm stereo jack on the other end, each with molded connector housings and strain relief boots. Each connector is gold-plated to ensure smooth, corrosion-free connections.

The cable is made of heavy-duty coaxial cable for each conductor. The conductors are 22AWG and each conductor is shield to prevent EMI or RFI interference from entering your audio system. The cable is 12mm x 6mm thick, while the connector housings are 41mm long x 15mm diameter.

Because of their size and weight these cables are best suited for more permanent connections, such as from your PC to your sound system. If you want something more suitable for portable applications, please try one of our standard 3.5mm audio cables.

    Very bad quality connectors
I've bought lots of cables from Monoprice for several years and recommended them to several people. I usually hold their products in very high regard, but this cable is the exception. The female connector is really flimsy, and causes the signal to either go into mono or sound bad like when you plug the headphones half way. I checked my headphones cable and it's fine, if I plug them directly into my receiver it sounds perfect even if I move the male connector a little bit. But when I plug the headphones male connector into the extension cable's female connector, you can tell it doesn't hold it tight, and if you move it around it has a lot of movement inside the female connector. This causes that any slight movement on the cable makes the sound mono or sound like the polarity is inverted. It is so flimsy that even my kitten stepping over the cable will cause this change in sound, even if he's not pulling the cable. Sometimes I even move the cable around slowly and it happens. My receiver has some kind of electronic detection to determine if headphones are plugged in or not, and with this extension cable, it fails often, going out of headphone mode and into speaker mode, and switching back and forth repeatedly, especially if I move the cable even just a bit.

I bought two of these, one was worse than the other and they sent me another one, but all three have the same problem more or less.

I hope this is not an indication that Monoprice has started going the route of typical corporations, maximizing profit by sacrificing quality. I will have to buy a headphone extension cable from some other brand.

PROS: Cable (not connectors) seems very high quality.

CONS: Very poor quality female connector

    Weird design choice
Wire gauge is adequate for the length. No complaints about sound quality fairly crisp with my sound card. It's not audiophile level but good enough for a back-up HTPC.

I have to agree with most of the "complaints." I have thicker gauge drumming headphones that use much less sheath material than these. I don't know why they chose to go with the dual-tube design for just 22 AWG. I'd venture a guess that it's just production over-run. The price benefits everyone.

If you're listening Monoprice, after this batch, get in touch with your supplier and do the same gauge (or maybe even thicker) in thinner, single-tube sheathing.

    PROS: Wire gauge.

    Sound quality (for the price).

CONS: I have to agree with most of the "complaints." I have thicker gauge drumming headphones that use much less sheath material than these. I don't know why they chose to go with the dual-tube design

    Terrible Sound Quality
I bought this to extend my headphones from my desktop headphone jack to my desk. Currently I'm using a male to male 3.5mm with a female to female adapter. I was hoping to upgrade with this, but unfortunately the sound quality is so bad that it's entirely unusable. I want to clarify that I'm also not an audiophile... when I say that the sound quality is bad, I'm not saying that the quality was degraded by a minute amount. It is a significant degradation. It is possible that I have received a defective cable, but the cost (money and time) of sending it back would be greater than the value of getting a working unit.

    PROS: None

    CONS: Sound Quality

    Response from Monoprice
    Hello,

Thank you for your review on PID 5587! Truly sorry to hear about the sound quality with this 3.5mm cable. If I may ask, what devices is this being used with? Can you explain to me how the quality was bad exactly? Such as was there static/noise, audio output through only one channel, etc.? Can we test the cable with other devices to see if the same audio issues occur?

If you would like, I can help setup an RMA for a replacement or a return if unsatisfied with the cable. We offer a lifetime warranty for our cables and a 30 day return policy with no restocking fee. I also wanted to mention that we cover shipping costs if the item is found as defective so these options would be of no additional cost to you. If you wish to proceed, please let me know if you would prefer to obtain a replacement or return the cable. My apologies for the trouble and I hope this helps!

Ridiculously thick yet surprisingly flexible.. probably not something you would want to use in portable setup... or at least I wouldn't. Works great and is well constructed. Connections hold tight. It's the 3.5MM extension cable of my dreams.

Big cable is actually two Coax cables
This cable is very nice. The connectors are solid, and make a very satisfactory "clack" when connecting. While I am not an extreme audiophile, I noticed no degradation in sound quality when connecting: Auzentech X-Plosion (96kbps)-Custom Amplifier Stage-Monoprice Cable-Grado SR-60

Highly recommended for everything except maybe earbuds, since this cable will weigh significantly more than the headphones will.

And FYI: The cable is actually just two RG56/U 75ohm coaxial cables similar to a television cable. And for anyone who doesn't know, that does not mean the cable has 75 ohms of resistance, that is the RF impedance and is completely negligible for audio frequencies.

Insulation is thicker/heavier than expected, which could be a good thing.

The female connectors don't always make a good connection, so audio cuts out.

    PROS: Solid construction.

CONS: Female end makes a loose connection.

I use this cable at work, listening to video and music from my computer. It transfers high end audio through it without any blemishes.

PROS: The cable was shipped promptly and arrive in the mail when told.

CONS: The cable was a lot thicker than it looked on the website, but that's okay.
