I use displayport on one monitor and the other is connected to my pc via HDMI. I want to split the hdmi signal so i still get a picture on my 2nd monitor and connect the other split end directly to my receiver for 7.1 surround. Will this product work to do this?
    A shopper on Jan 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for your question. That type of setup may work. However, it would depend on your receiver and if it would require a video sync with the HDMI output. Some receivers will not work with just HDMI audio if the HDMI output is not synced to a display.
Can I use a cat5 converter on this to run longer runs?

BEST ANSWER: Should not be a problem, just be certain not to exceed the rated resistance for your cat5/6 conversation connection.
This is not able to detect a TV that is further away and does not send a signal to it. (I have only one TV attached and I am using it for signal amplification). Is there a way to get it to send the signal even if it doesn't detect a TV or force a TV detection?

    Both must be on
I couldn't make this work unless the televisions on both outputs are on. One was connected via a Monoprice Cat6 to HDMI and the other was direct by HDMI. I contacted technical support and was informed that that is the way the Monoprice 1 X 2 Splitters work both outputs must be turned on. They stated that instead I should use the Monoprice 1 X 4 splitter if there is a possibility that only one will be used at a time. That seemed really odd, but sure enough, I returned this unit and replaced with a 1X4 that works perfect when only one is on. This should restriction (that both should Televisions on the output must be powered on) be stated in the description.

CONS: Requires both output HDMI connections to be powered on.

    Awesome, it works great!

PROS: I can now watch ESPN not only in my master bedroom, I can watch it in on my newly installed flatscreen in my bathroom with the same DTV feed! Sweet!

    Works Great
As above. Before I tried one from Amazon and it was a disaster.

PROS: Works great and provides great quality.

    CONS: none

    Works Awesome
Excellent price on this device and very easy to setup.
I have 1 HDMI going to my main floor tv, the other HDMI goes to a HDMI over Cat5e wall plate, that goes to my master bedroom tv.
Everything works great, had some issues at first, but it ended up being faulty HDMI cables. Only wish it would not default to the lowest resolution. I have a 720p Samsung in the master bedroom, and a 1080P panasonic in the living room.
Wish it would sense that the Samsung (720p) is not on, and then default to 1080p to feed the Panasonic. I understand why it defaults to lower resolution when both tv's are on, but if only 1 is on, it should output that tv's highest resolution. If anyone know of a different splitter that does do this, please let me know.

PROS: low cost, easy to setup, small size

    CONS: defaults to lowest resolution

    1X2 HDMI Amplifier Splitter
I needed to be able to feed the HDMI output to either my small screen or large screen TV's or both at the same time. This device does the job.
and it senses when the TV's are on.

PROS: Auto sensing spliter that detects when there is a device connecter to the outputs.
Works great, Good price, Fast shipping.

    Not So Automatic
I have been using the splitter for several months. Overall it seems to work well, but with one big problem for my particular usage.

I bought the splitter thinking it would become a work-around solution for a problem I have with an Onkyo HT-R590 AV receiver that came with an HT-S5400 HTIB. A signal coming from a Charter Cable box and going to the Onkyo AV receiver will not always pass through properly when the receiver is off, even when it is set to supposedly do so. In particular the audio will not always come through, even though the fastest HDMI cables are used for all connections. With the splitter the same cable box output signal can go both directly to the TV from the splitter or indirectly to the TV through the AV receiver. One simply needs to change the input signal for the HDTV to get either the direct or indirect signal. That means one can get the better audio with the AV receiver on (when one wants it), but for routine TV watching/listening, like maybe a news show, one need not even turn the AV receiver on.

The only problem is that the splitter doesn't always connect easily when one wants to change between direct-to-TV signal versus through-receiver-to-TV signal by turning on the AV receiver and changing the HDTV input. One typically needs to switch the splitter off and back on to make the connection. There is no remote control for the splitter function. So, in the end it is not much of an improvement, if any. One could often get the pass-through of the receiver to work by switching the settings off and on again too.

Since the splitter was not specifically intended for this use I cannot complain much. But for those who might be considering trying it for the reasons I did, I thought you might want to know this information.

PROS: Splits the signal as expected.
    Signal is strong enough

CONS: Does not seem to work automatically to establish a connection when switching from an HDTV-direct signal to HDTV-through-AV-Receiver signal

    don't bother
don't bother buying this item. I've bought from Monoprice many times in the past and have been very happy with their cables but their splitters and switchers have not worked for me.

    PROS: nothing

CONS: seemed to work when tested but after hooking everything up, it only plays from one of the ports, not both at the same time, and that port plays some of the time.

    8154 1x2 HDMI® Amplifier Splitter
This product is supposed to send the signal to targets without any manual intervention. But it doesn't do it. I have to power it down and back up to send the signal to the 2nd TV. I have installed the best HDMI cables one can think of (Audioquest Chocolate) while Monoprice keeps pointing at the cable. My advice stay away from this crappy product. As soon as I get a shipping label, I am sending this one back.

    PROS: None

CONS: This is a crappy product. I got a replacement because the first one was defective but the replacement turned out to be defective as well. Doesn't do what it is supposed to!!!

    HDMI® Amplifier Splitter

PROS: The amplifier splitter works perfectly, out of the box, and the value is better than all my normal suppliers.

The 1X2 amplifier splitter has worked very well. There is not difference in quality when attached or not. Second TV easily and quickly picks up the signal with no problems.
