Two-Piece Inset Wall Plate with 4 Inch Built-in Flexible High Speed HDMI® Cable With Ethernet - Single Port (1P) - White
Video/Audio Splitter - HDMI® M to HDMI® F X 2
This passive splitter will distribute a single HDMI input to two HDMI outputs. The single HDMI plug and two HDMI ports are gold plated to ensure smooth, corrosion-free connections.
Note that this splitter does not pass the HDCP copy protection information, so it is unsuited for use in home theater systems. Please use one of our powered splitters for home theater applications.
Monitors were Panasonic plasmas 58 & 42
PROS: Low price, solid build, built in input cable
CONS: Passive splitter may not work for all situations.
Anyway, when both displays are connected, Windows gets confused. I quickly realized this is because HDMI is bidirectional (duh). Not only are video and sound being sent from the source to the display, but the display also sends information back about itselfsupported resolutions, refresh rates, color modes, etc. This works fine with a single monitor, but when multiple displays are connected to the same video card output, Windows receives conflicting messages and isn't sure what to make of the situation.
Bottom line, it "worked" in the sense that the image from my PC was being displayed on both the monitor and TV, but the only resolution Windows would allow was 640x480. I couldn't get sound either neither display appeared in the audio "playback devices" list.
So, I don't know. I can't fault the splitter itself. Build quality is usual Monopricechunky, durable, very good for the price. Electrically, it does what it says. However, you'll probably have a hard time finding an application for it because of how HDMI's communication protocol works.
PROS: Cheap, well made, does indeed split the signal
CONS: Actual HDMI devices probably won't know what to make of it
PROS: Works fine for splitting a signal to 2 outputs...
CONS: ....but both outputs have to be on and displaying the split signal, otherwise neither will out.
Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the experience you have had with PID 2522. I should mention that this product is a passive splitter and works best for short cable runs. If looking to use long HDMI cables to each TV, I recommend instead trying a powered splitter with an amplifier built in such as PID 8154 ( http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=101&cp_id=10113&cs_id=1011306&p_id=8154&seq=1&format=2&rep=gab ). PID 8154 would be able to support signals up to 49ft. If you would like, I can help setup an RMA for a return on PID 2522. If you wanted to proceed with the RMA, please let me know and I can get that started right away. Apologies again for any inconvenience this may have caused and hope this helps!
