5x1 Enhanced HDMI® Switch with Built-In Equalizer & Remote Control
Enjoy the easy switching life with the Monoprice 5x1 Enhanced HDMI® Switch!
This switch allows you to connect five HDMI inputs and direct them to a single HDMI output. It fully conforms to the the HDCP standard and includes support for all 3D formats.
Four of the inputs are in the traditional location on the back, while the fifth is on the front panel. This allows you to easily make temporary connections, such as from a phone or tablet, without having to reach behind and locate the plug by feel.
The switch includes a remote control, with an on/off button, five direct access buttons, and a pair of directional buttons to cycle between available inputs. Whenever a device is turned off, the unit automatically switches to the next device in the chain, the same as if you had pressed the "next" button on the remote or pressed the "Touch switch" on the front panel.
The switch also incorporates an amplifier, which automatically regenerates the HDMI signal to full strength, allowing you to use longer-than-normal HDMI cables from the input devices. An external 5VDC power supply is required and supplied with the unit.
Note: Monoprice strongly recommends the use of minimum 24 AWG HDMI cables when connecting a device, such as this switch, between the source and destination devices to ensure minimal signal loss and maximum High Speed signal reliability.

This model will also work fine with the Harmony One remote, but it is not yet listed in the Harmony One device database. For Harmony One programming, I used MonoPrice's similarly structured model HDX-401E (4x1 switch) from the Harmony database, then added a new command to create an Input5 button, then did the "Learn IR" programming for EACH remote button - works perfectly. I would have rated this product a 10, except for the brilliant lights. I'm very pleased and impressed with this MonoPrice switch box - highly recommended.
PROS: Well made product and straightforward functionality. A total of 5 HDMI input ports: 4 ports slots in rear and 1 in front - nicely designed. Red standby light turns to blue when powered on 5 other blue lights indicate which HDMI input port is active. Input ports automatically switch. Will work with Harmony One remote.
CONS: The red and blue lights for this HDMI switch aren't just bright, they are laser-like brilliant and become an instant problem to resolve if this switch box is facing you, such as on a TV stand shelf with the rest of your home theater equipment. You will want to cover these lights with 3+ inch strip of electrical tape or a similar remedy.
PROS: Works as advertised. Very quick shipping.
The only issue so far is the front panel LED brightness for power and in-use HDMI port. The LEDs are searchlight like in brightnessif you rack this in a closet, no problem, but if it's out in a stand, you'll want to mask the LEDs or use a marker to darken them considerably.
This looks to be yet another THUMBS UP for Monoprice in terms of quality, matching the description on the site exactly and useability! Gave it a 9 ONLY because of the LED Brightness
PROS: Easy set up
Clear instruction manual
very compact size!
CONS: Front panel LEDs (power and HDMI indicator) VERY bright
Power cord is a little short
PROS: smaller unit than my previous 4x1
simple, easy to use
CONS: front led input indicator light is REALLY BRIGHT
PROS: 5 ports - TOTALLY worth it. If you think you may only need a 2 or 3 port switch, definitely upgrade to something double that.... I did and am very glad, because I've got 4 HDMI cords plugged into mine now!!!! Easy to use, and very durable unit.
CONS: The remote control is a little cheap. The switch is sturdy and solid but the remote is a bit flimsy, I always feel like I'm going to break it (but haven't yet!)
PROS: His product actually improved the hdmi signal which was something that I wasn't expecting.
I like the front panel input feature. I like the fact that it actually switches the first time it gets a command. I like the small size.
I don't like the 3 ft. power cord. Power cords should be 6 ft. I had to re-route and swap power cord power supplies so this one went to a close, switched outlet, and another unit, with a proper 6 ft. power cord, went to a more distant outlet. Lose 1 star.
I don't like the blinding blue lights on the front panel. What are these people thinking when they make this stuff? This is for a home theater, where it is dark! I can't just cover them with black tape because I want to able to see if the proper channel is selected. I temporarily put 6 layers of masking tape over them, but I will need to cover with 1/4 inch Kapton tape eventually. Lose one star.
I went to re-program my Logitech Harmony remote, and found out that the model number of this switch is almost the same as the old one new model number is HDX(C)-501E. Logitech doesn't have an entry for that, only the obsolete dog, my old HDX-501E. Now model numbers are cheap, and HDX-501E doesn't have any brand recognition, so why not use a completely different number? Anyway, I "learned" all the codes from the remote control and bypasses that problem, but Monoprice lost another star.
OBTW, I just noticed my review rating for the old 5X1 switch at the bottom of the page. It was a 9/10. I suppose I only took off one star for the blinding red LEDs on the front of that. Well that shows that out-of-box experience isn't always accurate. For most of its short life that switch did not work correctly, and it finally died after only 15 months of use. It also reminds me that Monoprice is either not reading the reviews or has no control over what it is buying, because everybody complains about the lights.
PROS: * Works
* Front panel input
CONS: * Blinding blue LEDs
* 3 ft. power cord
* Same model no. as obsolete switch
Buying a short HDMI cable with it was a good idea too. Less cable management.
PROS: Works as promised. Auto-selecting the port based on which device is active is cool. Having a remote is also neat.
CONS: But really? That LED is super bright. If you catch is at eye level, it's like a laser pointer to the face.
But I put a piece of electrical tape over it and it works good now. It shines right through the tape, but at a much more normal intensity.
PROS: Worked for several months.
CONS: Horrible screen flickering after a few months.
0 stars. Worthless and useless. Buy it - if you like to throw away your money that is.
Thank you for your review and truly sorry to hear about the issues experienced with PID 8463. If I may ask, what devices are you connecting with this switch exactly? Does this happen with all sources selected? Also, I know you stated that your cables work with another switch, but just so we can troubleshoot further, what length and gauge (AWG) HDMI cables are in use here? Apologies again for any inconvenience and thank you in advance!
