What I need is to connect my laptop (VGA output) to a new monitor (DisplayPort input). I can make the hookup work with this and a male-to-male VGA cable, which I have. But will I get the functionality I need? (Will it work)
BEST ANSWER:I bought 75 of these and they work well. I have used them to connect 2nd monitors and projectors with no issues. Product works well. They are too wide to use if you need to use two display ports for dual monitors on a small form factor pc. In these cases, I use the pigtail adapters. Overall a good product!

Needed this to use my laptop with VGA devices. It works, although it seemed to need a little extra time before the laptop recognized it -- maybe that was just initial setup getting the driver installed.
I have a sister product, which is the display port to DVI. That thing sucks. This thing actually works for me, and I am using it on the monitor I am using while currently typing this review. A+
I generally like to write in depth reviews for items, but this one is best said simply: It works. Nearly as important as that, it's inexpensive with quality that does not reflect its price. It doesn't seem cheaply or poorly made in the slightest. Buy it!
The part work well. It was an excellent price. Shipping a tad slow. The company does send out way too many advertising e-mails. I will purchase from them again.
These are really good to have available. Many new PCs do not have VGA connections. I saw this coming for a long time but my people in charge of IT purchasing were ignoring it. I don't have a problem with the "displayport" connection (other than the name). It is digital, HD, carries video/display only, and clicks in to give it at least some holding power. HDMI carries audio with video which can create its own set of situational problems and can pull out easier. Displayport may the connector many PC manufacturers stick with, so we will need adapters like these for quite some time. I also like the "stick" adapter design as opposed to a "dongle" or cable. I already have many VGA cables.
