    Works Great...
I had some old spare patch cables, some with broken tabs, some without boots, one that didn't work at all, and some with odd vertical tab protectors. A couple were 50 ft. long so they are useful for temporary usage. So for the cost of this crimper, Cat5 plugs and boots, I now have some nice spares.

This was my first time fixing patch cables (though I have installed CAT5 cables to a patch panel). Looking at the plug and the crimper I wasn't sure what was suppose to be crimped. Googling for instructions on creating patch cables primarily talked about the wiring order, but only one site gave a hint as to what the crimper was doing. So I eventually figured it out.

Hey Monoprice.... it would be great if you created a webpage for us novices with close-up photos of each step of the process. Video would be OK if you had close-ups.

    PROS: Works great...

CONS: None... Works great (see above)...

    Pretty Good Tool
Excellent for the price, all things considered. Definitely for the occasional amateur crimper. I had trouble telling if the blades in the plug were making good contact with the wires, but for the price I cut off plugs that werent working and replaced them with ones that did work. The professional would definitely be best served by using a longer-lasting and more powerful ratcheting mechanism, but for the guy who has more time than money (to waste on overpriced, underutilized tools) this is a great choice.

    crimper
well worth the price. Complete novice to start with, installed cables that worked the first time most of the time. Thanks.

    8P8C RJ-45 Network Cable Crimper
This is a well built tool. Cuts the wire, strips the sheathing, crimps the connector. It's a bit tricky to fan out the 8 wires in proper arrangement and slide them into the connector (this is true no matter which tool is used). I strip the sheath to the standard length then slide it back even farther while holding the wires to expose more of the wire length. This makes it easier to untwist the wire and flay them out in proper order. Then with the connector in the tool,I slide the wires into the connector and carefully work the sheath back into the connector as well. Squeeze the crimper tool firmly ( there's a slight click when you're there). It's a good idea to check for polarity and continuity when your done with both ends. There are special tools for this if you have a lot of cables to build, but for the few I made, I used my audible ohm meter.

    PROS: Very good construction
    Works perfectly
Does exactly what it's intended to do
    Easy to use
    Low cost - excellent value

CONS: None for my intended usage

    Works Great
No complaints here. Id by a better one if I was doing it all day. But for the hobbiest, it works great. Btw, no need to strip the individual wires. Just push them in.
Monoprice should put this link in the description. Its with the connectors.

    Another solid product
Another great value for money product from the folks at Monoprice. I started creating my own cables to customize my home network. After a couple of duds (my fault for not inserting the plugs all the way in the tool) I was up and running creating cables in moments. This may not stand up to heavy use for the person that does this for a living but for my light weight needs it's excellent.

    PROS: Easy to use
    Value for money

    CONS: Likely not industrial strength
