    IEEE 1394 6M/4F Adapter

The IEEE 1394 standard is better known by Apple's "Firewire" nomenclature. Firewire 400 allows for both a small 4-pin and a larger 6-pin connector.

The additional 2 pins on the 6-pin Firewire 400 connection are used to provide power to portable devices. Many self-powered devices, such as digital video cameras, use the smaller 4-pin connector.

This adapter provides a male, 6-pin, Firewire 400 connection on one side and a female, 4-pin connection on the other end. This allows you to use a 4-pin (iLink) M/M Firewire 400 cable to connect between your Firewire 400 equipped computer with 6-pin connector (such as older Macs and PCs with a firewire card) and your 4-pin equipped device (e.g., camera).

Note that if you do not already have your cables, you might just want to get one of our 4-pin to 6-pin M/M Firewire 400 cables.

Also, if you have a 6-pin M/M cable that you need to connect to a 4-pin device, you need PID 360 instead.

Hard to find part at reasonable price
I used this adapter to troubleshoot a firewire audio interface. I used it to prevent a power draw of a audio interface on a computer allowing me to use an external power source on the interface. I did not want to have two sources of power going into the one unit. The computer's firewire interface has a maximum of 7 watts and the external has 12 watts. What I discovered was that a studio microphone was faulty but I plan to use the adapter when the interface is connected to a laptop to prevent power strain on the computer.

    Firewire adaptor Monoprice

Monoprice website allowed me to find the product I needed with its helpful layout, descriptions and images. Prices are excellent and for this adapter, cost was significantly lower than anywhere else.

It did take a little while to ship. (To Ottawa, ON CANADA) I don't remember how long it actually took, but I remember being pleasantly surprised when it arrived. It was such a tiny order (and price) that I started thinking maybe I wasn't going to receive it at all.
When I finally did, I was very happy.

Thank you Monoprice, for offering such a valuable service! :)

PROS: Price is unbeatable. Product was exactly as described and works perfectly.

    Works perfectly
Does what it needs to do and all for a cheap price. I already had the mini-to-mini cable from an older PC but the new PCs have the full size. Saved me from having to buy yet another cable. I am pleased

    adaptor didn't work
I would not buy another adaptor from this website, this was my first try and I will shop again.

PROS: it was supposed to be the solution to the problem that I had with a fire wire cable, for a camera.

CONS: well it didn't work, it will accept it but after a minute of two it will stop working. and I have tried it with different computers and software but still didn't work.
