S/PDIF Digital Optical Audio Cable, Toslink to Mini Toslink, 6ft

Experience superb sonic clarity and accurate musical reproduction with this S/PDIF (Toslink) Digital Optical Audio Cable from Monoprice!

The Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format provides for a Digital Optical Audio signal, commonly referred to as Toslink. Toslink allows for the distribution of uncompressed 2-channel PCM audio or compressed multichannel audio, such as DTS® or Dolby® 5.1 or 7.1. Being an optical signal, Toslink is immune to problems that can plague electrical signals, such as crosstalk, magnetic interference, or radio frequency interference.

Many laptop and small computers, including the Apple MacBook® and Mac® mini, feature a combination 3.5mm TRS stereo audio and S/PDIF Digital Optical Audio output port. This port can accept a standard 3.5mm headphone plug or a Mini Toslink plug.

This cable features a 3.5mm Mini Toslink connector on one end and a full-sized Toslink connector on the other end, with molded connector heads and strain-relief boots.

    • Full-sized male Digital Optical Audio (Toslink) connector on one end
    • 3.5mm male Mini Toslink connector on one end
    • 5.0 mm outside diameter
    • Molded strain-relief bootss reduce strain where the cable and connectors meet
    • Gold plated ferrule resists corrosion and provides maximum protection for the connector tip
    • Precision polished fiber tips for maximum signal transfer
    • Plastic tip protectors attached to each end to protect the optical cable when not in use

I have a JBL system that is currently connected to my iMac (4 speakers with subwoofer), connected to mac using 3.5" mini plug. Can use the toslink to mini toslink to connect to my TV?
    Chuck L on Sep 9, 2017
I have a JBL sound system currently connected to my iMac via the headphone jack. My TV has a Toslink input and I would to connect the JBL to that set. Currently the input to the computer is a 3.5 mini jack, the left and right channel are split to the speakers. 4 speakers and a subwoofer. Is this all I need to make this work?

    Works like a champ!
I plugged this cable into the earphone/digital out jack on my old MacBookPro (2007 SantaRosa) and fed optical audio into my Denon AVR-S510BT HD A/V Receiver. Along with a DVI to HDMI cable and an input assignment of the optical input to follow the HDMI input, it works just fine. Just make sure to check the Sound Out System Preference on the Mac to make sure that the digital output is enabled the Mac should detect it and set it up for you.

PROS: Simple to connect, inexpensive, optical digital audio quality...

CONS: I waited so long to try it out.

Toslink to mini M/M - works great!
I have this cable setup between my apple macbook and my denon receiver. It works well. It comes with small caps to cover up the optical output and input which seem like a really good idea.
Don't waste your money buying apple connecting cables. These ones are much cheaper and work just as well.

PROS: Works between my Denon receiver and my apple macbook. You don't have to buy apple's expensive cable. This one works perfectly. Every time!

    CONS: none

    Not too certain about this...
I bought this cable to connect a Chromecast Audio to my older Panasonic receiver. If the Toslink end is connected tightly to the back of the input on the receiver, no sound will play. If it is loose, it works (just shining into the plug.) I was able to make it work by plugging it in half way. Sounds good! But, if it ever gets bumped, it will not play. Can't figure out if it is a defect in the cable, or my receiver. My other Toslink cable connected to the DVD player (non-Monoprice cable) works fine. It's probably an issue with this cable. It was so cheap, and it's working, so I'm not too disappointed. Just be aware if you order this that your mileage might vary.

    PROS: Cheap!
    Sounds good!
It has Tos and mini Tos like it says it does.

CONS: Possible issue with the normal size Toslink connector. Cannot plug it into the input fully and hear any sound. Can only plug it in half-way to get it to work...

    Works well, I think
I bought the wrong cable, my own fault. Didnt bother to return it figuring I might use it some day. Guess what I did and it works.

Great Cable - The Monoprice Way
Perfect cable for the purpose. I bought the cable to go from MacBook Pro to receiver. This is a great price for the cable, and great shipping. I have not had a complaint for any Monoprice item I've ever bought. Go Monoprice!

PROS: Solid Cable, comes with covers for ends. Works perfectly going from my Macbook Pro (late 2007) to my Yamaha Receiver.

    CONS: None

Works great with PCM, Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS audio.
It would be nice if it came in a sturdier PREMIUM variety like the Toslink-Toslink cables on Monoprice.

Great cable for plugging a laptop or audio card into a HT receiver.

PROS: Thick, durable, and has protector caps on the sides.

    Excellent quality
At these prices I was expecting something radio shack bargain bin-ish. I was very please to see the quality of this cable. it came with rubber caps for the ends that were looped around the cord itself so you couldn't lose them. Nice tough. Oh, and the cable works great.

    Replacing Cable that died
I bought this same cable from Monoprice in 2006 and it just kicked the bucket after surviving 5 moves and multiple cat attacks. Awesome products and pricing.
