6ft Premium 3.5mm Stereo Male to 3.5mm Stereo Male 22AWG Cable (Gold Plated) - Black

The 3.5mm (1/8") stereo TRS connector is more commonly known as the Headphone Jack on portable mp3 players and mobile phones. This cable features a male 3.5mm stereo (TRS) plug on each end, with molded connector housings and strain relief boots. Each connector is gold-plated to ensure smooth, corrosion-free connections.

The cable is made of heavy-duty coaxial cable for each conductor. The conductors are 22AWG and each conductor is shield to prevent EMI or RFI interference from entering your audio system. The cable is 12mm x 6mm thick, while the connector housings are 41mm long x 15mm diameter.

Because of their size and weight these cables are best suited for more permanent connections, such as from your PC to your sound system. Also, because of the size of the connector head, these are unsuited for use with phone cases and may not fit within the expansion slot cutouts on the back of a PC case. If you want something more suitable for these applications, please try one of our standard 3.5mm audio cables.

Nice thick cable, but steel conductor and "shield" is the common ground..
I tried to get details on the construction before I ordered, but chatting with customer service didn't really help. I ordered anyway. My plan was to cut off one of the ends, split the left and right coax cables, and solder one to each driver in a pair of headphones I was rewiring.

To my surprise, when I cut the end off and stripped the ends, I found the following:

The central conductor looks to be about 22awg, and is stranded steel inside standard plastic insulation. The coax from one side has a white central conductor that connects the jacks' tips to each other for the left audio, and the coax on the other side has a red central connector that connects the jacks' rings for the right audio.

Braided around these central insulated wires are copper "shields" that acts as the common ground (they both connect to the sleeve on each end).

Around the central conductor, insulator, and ground, is an inner insulator jacket with a diameter of about 3mm.

Around this inner insulator jacket is an outer insulator jacket with a diameter of about 6mm. These outer insulator jackets are what touch and join the two sides along the length of the wire.

I was somewhat dissappointed when I saw the steel core. The "shield" is nicely woven a probably better than a typical RCA patch cable, but not the same as a shielded digital coax (with a copper central conductor, a thick insulator around the central conductor, and a steel braided shield around that).

PROS: Thick and sturdy. Terminated well - the stereo jacks seem secure.

CONS: Not a typical "coaxial" cable. Steel conductor. "Shield" is copper, but is also the ground.

    OMG this is ridiculous!
they should put a warning on this... !!!SUPERSIZED!!! it was a surreal moment when i opened the package, like I had entered the land of the giants. amazing quality, but not good for tight corners, small spaces, or connecting handheld devices. It would be perfect if it were half the size.

    PROS: very high quality

CONS: larger than life. i mean disfunctionally thick cable. literally the cross section is 1/2"x1/4". too heavy and rigid for anything mobile.

High-quality, but very heavy and rigid
This is a great, high-quality cable. Audio quality is as good as I've ever heard, running my mp3 player into the line-in of my car's stereo. And in your hands it feels very strong and durable.

However, that high quality and durability brings with it a lot of weight and rigidity that makes using this cable in the car a little bit of a pain. I worry that the weight of the cable might one day damage either my car's line-in jack, or maybe my mp3 player's line-out. (Seriously, this cable outweighs my little Sansa Fuze!) And the rigidity of the cable means that the cable arcs outward away from the dashboard, rather than drooping discreetly our of sight. It looks like I'm running a jumper cable through the dash or something.

My advice to buyers is to look at the picture in the listing carefully! It's as thick as the line that connects a power strip to the wall.

If you're using this to hook up stationary equipment in the home, stuff you'll never unplug, definitely I can recommend this cable without hesitation. But I think I will buy a thinner, more flexible cable for the car, and maybe repurpose this cable for some home PC or A/V purposes.

    PROS: - very high quality
    - audio results excellent
    - very durable

    CONS: - extremely thick cable
    - not very flexible
    - surprisingly heavy

SOund you won't believe out of you rphone
Bought these for our cars- kept destroying the cheap cables I'd buy at Target- Which actually were cheaply made, but more money than these cables. so I bought these cause I finally got smart. These cables are heavy duty and the sound is amazing- so happy I made this purchase.

    PROS: Heavy Duty
    Durable
    Great sound

    CONS: None so far

    really thick
Since the cable is so thick it doesn't get tangles, but is also not very easily manipulated. I'm guessing they went a little overboard with shielding on this, but it's nice to see that the cables are individually shielded. You could probably separate them also if you are so concerned about the stereo signal being next to each other, but if you are that anal then you would have probably run 2 mono cables instead.

These cables seem high quality, but for your standard consumer cable are a bit thick. I'm using it in my car, but it's sort of a pain. I'd actually prefer something a little lighter weight. it's great for my desk at work though.

PROS: seems like really good quality. It's heavy gauge so I don't think it will pull apart.

CONS: It's a little overly thick. Also, if you need to use it in an ipod or iphone you'll want to get yourself a different cable, or will need to use an adapter for certain connections. For instance, on the ipod nano the power adapter is next to the headphone/aux adapter so it won't fit since it's so big.
Not a big deal though, as I have an iphone now and the connectors are on opposite sides. It won't fit in the apple bumper though, if you have that.

I was lured in by the gold-plated connectors and the thick-looking cables. I shouldn't have ignored the description when it said the actual copper wire is only 24 AWG. I needed this for a project to splice into a car stereo, so when I cut open the cable and discovered tiny wires surrounded by 1/4" of rubber I was somewhat disappointed. I think you're better off using any of the more standard audio cables.

    PROS: Nice connectors

    CONS: Cable is super thick
    Wires are small gauge

This is a big cable, hard to bend and work with it. But it definitely is robust, it can take your weight standing over it over and over without trouble. I am no expert but I don't hear any sound quality loss.
