Convenient as a replacement for a standard outlet - you get 3 outlets instead of 2, plus 2 USB outlets. But! We had the decora style outlets, so I had to get the traditional rounded style outlets and change them out, since the decora outlets don't have the plate retention screw in the center.

buzzing sound when charging ipad
Pros: Nice design with plenty of ports

Cons: When using the USB port to charge iPad 3rd Gen, the iPad emits a buzzing noise which doesn't sound safe. Using the original charger that comes with the iPad doesn't cause the noise. I don't trust the unit to charge my expensive electronics

Great design, number of plugs — but causes buzzing and overheating of my iPad when I try to charge it using the usb ports on this unit. Probably got a defective one.

This is my second replacement unit so I don't think being sent another exact one would help. I don't think the charger is safe to charge the iPhone or iPad because of the buzzing and heat issue.

It's sweet
Pros: Works on iPhone. Works on iPad. What else matters?
The light, I can take it or leave it, nice in the kitchen, annoying in the bedroom.

Cons: Sticks out about an, but I like that it screws in, no worries about it pulling out of the wall

Just buy it, it you're on the fence like I was, you'll be happy

Works well
Pros: Good Layout

Cons: Fingers crossed about the quality

I had item 7991 and it barely lasted a year. This one has a much better layout and hopefully lasts longer. You just never know if Monoprice products will last. My luck with their USB charges is not good.

Excellent Product
Pros: Easy to use and install. Product works great. Having 3 electrical outlets is convenient and expanded the existing capabilities of the existing outlet. The light on top is nice - I have mine installed in the living room, so it is nice to have a little extra light at night, but it would be annoying if it were in my bedroom.

Cons: None

This is a great product. My wife uses it to charge her iPhone 5 and Galaxy 3S (at the same time) and it works great for both of them. Some people mentioned it does not fit flush to the wall when install. I found if you leave the outlet face plate on, it fits and looks a lot better.

Pros: Easy to install
Good protection

Super easy to install, love that it has a screw so that it stays in place nicely. Charging the iPad and the iPhone and still have three outlets to spare.

Pros: I like the idea of having a surge protector with USB ports

Cons: Bulky,
USB Charger doesn't seem to work anymore.

I bought a few of these as I thought they would be handy.
However, the item is a bit bulky and covers up to 4 wall outlets.
As most of my outlets are clustered to a minimum of 2, it provides only one additional wall outlet and two usb ports (didn't think of this when I bought the unit).
The upper part of the item seems to be a light which is a bit too big & bright for bedrooms (where I would charge most of my USB stuff).

Works well, a bit wobbly
Pros: USB charging, add extra 3-prong outlet

Cons: no way to turn off indicator lights
middle screw doesn't fit all outlet type
a bit flimsy in place (with lack of screw)

Works well, provides 3 3-prong outlets and 2 USBs. I charge my iPhone through these with no prob. There is a middle screw, but my outlets don't have a middle screw hole (they have side screw holes). This leaves the device a bit wobbly on the outlet. It is not as rock solid as I would like. Another problem is that it has a green light to indicate protection, but thatr can be very annoying in your bedroom when you are trying to sleep. There is no way to turn this off that I have found.

Does the job
Pros: Charges my phone nicely.
You can replace your wall plate with this so it is securely screwed into the wall.

Cons: Low voltage
Bright Light

I have this mounted next to my bed to charge my blue tooth headphones and cell phone. It works well to charge both of those, but it is low voltage so it can't charge a Galaxy Tab 10.1. My cell phone says that it takes longer to charge with the low voltage as well, but I haven't noticed much of a difference and it doesn't really matter at it charges all night.

The light to indicate the surge protection is very bright. You basically get a night light with this as well.

Cons: none comes to mind

WORKS GREAT! I use this connector in the kitchen as a hub for charging the 5 iPhones in the house. No more looking for a place to plug-in.

Pros: Looks good, standard AC works fine

Cons: USB ports worked for just over a month and now they are dead

Looked like a good product but I bought for the USB ports for travelling. Lasted a little more than month and now neither USB port works. I guess you get what you pay for.

Hello Murray,

My apologies the USB ports have stopped working on the surge protector. We do offer a 1 year warranty on the item and would be happy to get an RMA setup for a replacement for you, I would just need an order number to get the process started. Again my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

This is a great outlet
Pros: This is a simple idea supper easy to install and use. I bought some extended length cables to go with it and it works very nicely. Since we have multiple devises that are charged via USB I bought two, one for the bedroom and one for the den and they are very nice to have semi permanently installed.

Cons: Light on the unit can be annoying at times in the bed room but a piece of tape across it dims it quite well.

Works Well, sticks out from Wall
Pros: Turns a 2 outlet wall socket into a 3 outlet with 2 USB charge ports - plus night light

Cons: Not a "thin" solution - sticks out a bit from the wall

I like this product but couldn't use in my intended location (kitchen above counter) because it does stick out a bit. Now its on the bedside wall and charges my phone and ipod at night.

Easy to install - just unscrew existing cover plate, plug in, and turn a screw.

This works great
Pros: There are other ones on the market but they only give you one power outlet, this one has three.

Cons: No con, just a request. Add two more USB ports. And maybe a small LED instead of the bright green bar. But keep it green since blue messed with sleep patterns.

I bought two. I'll probably buy internal outlet ones when they become available with the proper output to power tablets.

Pros: Like the product as I need to have both a night lamp, alarm clock and phone charging out of the same outlet so this provides all of those things.

Cons: Green light is way to bright to be beside your bed. I had to cover it with electrical tape.

Bought two of these two weeks ago. Last night on one of them, both USB chargers just died and doesnt work anymore. Quite disappointed with that. Don't know why they would just stop working.

Pros: Charges Galaxy S3 phone.

Cons: Does not charge Galaxy 10.1 tablet.
Sticks out from wall a lot, keeps furniture away from wall.
Extremely bright green light.

I purchased two of these. At first the USB ports worked to charge my Galaxy tablet. Then they quit. I returned them at my $7 expense. The new ones don't charge my Galaxy tablet either. They do charge my Galaxy S3 phone. I give up.

Great!
Pros: This product was really good! Had it working for a while now and makes a much cleaner look than a power strip.
ALSO, does work with raspberry pi.

Cons: BRIGHT light, and wasn't as flush as I expected. Also wished it could recess in the wall a little better, but for the price it works great!

This is great. It would seem a little flimsy if you don't screw it in, because it does stick out from the wall a little (even with the cover plate removed). Great voltage, and better looking than a power strip for my media center.

Pros: Works as advertised

Cons: No on/off switch for night light

After removing the original wall cover to install the USB/power surge outlet, it does not cover the gap between it and the gypsum wall board. The screw isn't long enough to just leave the wall cover on in addition to the the wall surge protector. It doesn't bother me too much since it's behind my night stand. The extremely bright nightlight doesn't have an on/off toggle. I use a piece of paper folded to cover the light.

Pros: convenient

Cons: stopped working

I liked this product. It made charging two iPhones at my bedside quite convenient. Then the USB ports just stopped working. I also didn't care for the green light on top... I'd prefer not to have a nightlight!

Well made.
Pros: For the price, it's a slick looking unit. Large glowing green light indicates the surge protector is working, and a built-in screw can replace the centre screw of your outlet facia to provide a firm mount into the wall.

For the money, it's just terrific.

Pros: 1. 3 Power Outlets
2. 2 USB Outlets
3. 540 Joules

Cons: 1. Bright green status light. Need an option to dim or disable.

This is great as a generic surge protector and USB charger to charge most devices but it's support is somewhat limited. I've done some testing and it appears that this device doesn't charge all USB chargeable devices (issue could be device specific). Here's a list of what works via USB charging and what doesn't:

Works:
iPhone 4 - USB to Apple or Non-Apple 30-Pin Cable (5V 1000 mA)
iPhone 4S - USB to Apple or Non-Apple 30-Pin Cable (5V 1000 mA)
iPhone 5 - USB to Apple 9-Pin Lightning Cable - (5V 1000 mA)
iPad 1 - USB to Apple or Non-Apple 30-Pin Cable (5V 2100 mA)
Favi Wireless Keyboard/Trackpad - USB to Mini USB Cable (5V 300mA)
Jaybird Freedom Bluetooth Headset - USB to Non-USB Proprietary Cable (5V 100mA)

Doesn't Work:
Sony PS3 Dual Shock Wireless Controller - USB to Mini USB Cable (3.7V 300 mA)
Blackberry Bold - USB to Micro USB Cable (5V 750 mA)

great idea and product
Pros: 2 USB ports to plugin your mobile device as long as you have a cable lying around. It's better than hauling your block connector everywhere.
The plugs are spaced out enough to fit various types of power connectors.

Cons: It is fairly easy to knock out of the wall. I move my speakers around depending on where I am in my house, a couple times now i lightly bumped the outlet and as a result, turned off the power to my tv and stereo.

Very handy to have extra USB ports around the house to charge devices with. I would have marked it a 10 if the outlet had some kind of moulding to protect it from being bumped. Currently, it sits a ways off the wall which makes it easy to give it leverage to get knocked off.

Pros: Built in phone chargers
Extra AC outlet
Green surge protector light serves as a dim night light
Sturdy mounting
Every kitchen should have one of these

Cons: I can't think of a single negative point about this device, nothing but thumbs up.

I have been looking for a way to reduce the clutter in the kitchen corner where we charge our phones and other USB devices, and this is the perfect device for it. Not only that, but my wife even thinks it looks cool! WIN WIN!!!
It appears to be able to supply plenty of charge current, and does not get warm to the touch. It is very stable on the outlet due to the way it mounts to the wall socket with an included screw.
All in all a very useful addition to our kitchen that gets a lot of use every day.
Buy one, you won't be sorry you did.

Good unit
Pros: Unit is well designed/compact.
USB ports power my iPhone 4, Wi-Fi Hard Drive and other perhipherals.
"Night Light" power indicator is extremely bright.
Price point is better than the competition.

Cons: USB port doesn't suport Blackberries - I've tried curve, torch and bold.
"Night Light" power indicator is extremely bright.

This unit is designed to replace two outlets by covering the wall-plate completely. It comes with a screw to anchor the unit in place. In return, you get two USB Ports and three outlets, but not enough space to hold any more than two oversized ac adapters.

The USB port not even supporting the basic Blackberry is a bit of a let-down, but I knew that going in and partially blame Blackberry. I have not tried iPads or iPhone5 on it.

The Night Light really is *that* bright. I thought some people might be exaggerating. I'm using it in my kitchen, so the Night Light feature here can be seen as a bonus. But really not cool in a bedroom if you like your sleep.

Minus 2 points for Blackberry/higher end support on USB and possibly annoying night light restricting placement.

USB is useless
Pros: Turns two outlets into three

Cons: Everything else - the USB ports, the presence of which is sole reason I bought the outlet, do not work in a way that charges either iPhones or Blackberries. Also, when plugged in it radiates an annoying green glow.

Skip this product and find another solution.

If you like I can issue an RMA for a return, I would just need an order number to get things started. Cons: Very bright green light makes it unsuitable for the bedroom.

Good but not great
Pros: Handy to have in the kitchen or other common areas. Like that it adds an additional outlet

Cons: Light is too bright and like others there is a buzzing noise when charging the iPad.

I purchases three units. So far I tested 2 of them and only one of the 2 causing the buzzing with the iPad so I suspect there is a manufacturing issue with some of these. Question is, will it cause damage to my very expensive iPads?

Pros: 3 plugs 2 USB

Cons: Design is a bit bulky.
Annoying light when you plug unit in wall. Use bedside to charge devices at night.
Requires entire plug and has to be 3 prong - regular USB charger needs two prong no ground
iPad 3 buzzes when using this to charge. Regular apple charger doesn't.

Great concept, mediocre execution.

Jury is still out on this charger / surge suppressor. Bulky design, and buzzing noise caused by unit when charging iPad is of great concern. May damage expensive iPad which isn't good.

Monoprice sent me a replacement and still having same symptoms.

Usually love everything Monoprice, but this one product needs to be reviewed and revised. USB out needs to not cause a buzzing sound on iPad.

Pros: Two USB ports

Cons: None

Bought this for our new house so we had a central place to charge phones and iPads. Works great for this purpose. We have it in the kitchen so the bright green light is no an issue for us. We also have our AirPrint printer plugged in and protected. I have not heard a buzz from it like others have posted. Seems to charge in a reasonable amount of time. I would say as fast as the the charger that comes with the iPad. Nice work Monoprice. Now if I could only figure out why you dropped you big subwoofer you use to carry!

Has some issues
Pros: Adds additional outlet
USB charging
Surge protection

Cons: USB ports don't show up as AC
Buzzes loudly when drawing current through USB
Outlets have poor alignment/stiff

I bought this for my parents to use as an easy way to charge their new "dumb phones" but it can't do it. I also bought micro USB cables but the ends were too thick to fit the phones. I tested the flip phones with my SGS3 charger and that worked but this USB ports were a no go. The loud buzzing when charging through USB also concerns me.

Hello,

Thank you for your review. Keep in mind since this is a generic USB charger, the device may not detect it properly as AC, but I would double check to see if it is charging just fine. Thank you!

Very nice adapter
Pros: Well made, protects, easy to install, good output voltage/current, inexpensive

Cons: Bulky for what it is it coul be smaller/flatter, green indication LED is way too bright, takes up both sockets in the wall while only tapping into one

I would buy it again for the price, but would be nice to see improvements made. I will be taking some DIY action soon to tone down the green LED.

Great but brighter than a helipad!
Pros: Works great and looks nice.

Cons: If you have a more modern plug (no center screw), then you can't screw it in. Still works fine, but a little looser. In addition, the green power light is so bright I have to cover it up each night (have it beside the bed to charge phone). Going to paint over it or put tape or something.

In addition, no iPad charging, although that's not a huge surprise (not enough juice).

Great Device Except for the light
Pros: Great device. Allows me to charge my two mobile devices in the evening and still have room to plug in my lamp.

Cons: Bright green light is terrible. It lights up the whole room. There should be an option to turn it off. If I had known about the light beforehand I wouldn't have purchased it.

Would be nice if the outlet folded in so when traveling it doesn't poke through luggage.

I purchased this device to use in my bedroom, but because of the bright green light I've only plugged it in two of the 5 nights I've had it. I covered the light with a sock but that's probably not very safe so I'm not sure this will get used.

love it... except for the light
Pros: nice design
solid

Cons: green light

this is perfect for in the house. Bought one and my wife (non-techy) immediately took over it for the devices she and the kids use. The green light is way to bright though if you're planning on using it in a bedroom, but works as a great nightlight in other rooms!

Really would like to see a smaller LED status light to better balance the look of the product.

Monoprice...You are the best
Pros: This wall tap with USB ports for charging is perfect. I have seen similar products elsewhere but at much higher prices. It fits over a double outlet perfectly, and even covers the opening so the original outlet plate can be removed.

Cons: None.

See Pros.
In one of the reviews, someone mentioned the small peg on the back of this tap keeps it from hanging close to the all. That peg is supposed to go into the ground hole of the bottom receptacle. It keeps this tap securely mounted. That's a good thing.

Pros: 2.1a usb charging + triple outlets.

Cons: led is very bright
plastic peg on the back
seems a little flimsy

The unit itself is quite good. The 2usb ports are very handy as I needed those more than the actual plugs. But the biggest problem is the led light. It is so bright, unnecessarily so in my opinion. Don't plan on putting this thing in a bed room to charge your devices overnight because that led will literally light up your entire bed room.
Also, I can't figure out what the purpose of the plastic peg on the back is for. It causes the power bar to not sit flush on the wall. Why would anyone want it like this?
I don't like it. These two cons are big enough for me to want to return it. Not sure if its worth the shipping cost back though.

Aesthetically pleasing, works great
Pros: Works as advertised
Visually appealing

Cons: While perfectly functional, other adapters can be more efficient about socket placement, for bulky power adapters.

I purchased both product ID 7991 and this unit (product ID 9195) for my home. I regret not buying more of these over the other product. These units improve the appearance of the wall over the original wall socket. I'll likely purchase more of these for pretty much every room in the house. If you're going to place the surge protector in a non-visible area, product ID 7991 gives you a little more versatility and has better surge protection specs.

The best product I didn't know I needed
Pros: Solidly built and does exactly what you'd expect.

Cons: There's a green light at the top of the unit that is always-on, which is a little too bright for my taste.

I stumbled across this the other day while shopping for something else, and I am really glad that I did. I love this thing it works exactly as advertised and is solidly built.

Loses one point for a bright, 'always-on' green light at the top of the unit not a huge deal, but it's too bright for me to use one of these in the bedroom to charge gadgets overnight.
