Great price, system didn't work...
Pros: When I opened the box and checked the build quality of the speakers, I was impressed! I was also excited that the mounting brackets were included... this looked to be the greatest bargain ever!

Cons: No "real" volume from these tiny speakers!! When I attempted to turn the volume up, the reciever just kicked off! And this was just with 2 speakers hooked up! These speakers did not work for my application.

Research your entire system to make sure that you dont over power this 5.1 speaker system.
The price is astounding, but dont expect the world!!

A lot of quality sound for a little money
Pros: 1) sound quality
2) low price
3) sleek design
4) easy to use connectors

Cons: 1) short bracket mounting screws

I just unpacked and hooked these speakers up yesterday, and I must say I was impressed. The sound is very good. When you couple the sound quality with the low price, you end up with a tremendous value. I will be buying another set. Well done Monoprice.

Works As Expected
Pros: Effective, Works As Advertised, Non-descript

Cons: Sub-woofer is a little tricky to figure out.

This fit the bill for what I was looking for. This was my first dip into the surround sound pool so I didn't want to go overboard with a system until I knew how much and when we would use it. Getting all of the components in one box for the price was perfect for me.

pretty nice
Pros: price, sound, install

Cons: sub auto on doesn't work

These speaker sound pretty damn good, especially for 90 dollars. This is my first taste of surround sound and they do a great job. That being said, I still prefer my music from traditional floor speakers. These are a nice hold-me-over and will make a great secondary system when I can afford a higher quality primary system.

Beware the return process!!
Pros: Speakers were well packaged, looked decent

Cons: Despite what other reviewers have said, to me the speakers sounded poor. Not sure if it's because mine were defective, broken, or what. I spent over an hour and a half on the customer service chat trying to convince them that the speakers had problems, but did not get anywhere. A tech support person confirmed that they were set up and installed correctly, and because of that they were deemed "working". I was told that I would have to cover the shipping to return the items because they do not cover RMA's for "dissatisfaction". The shipping for me would have been nearly $60. The chat support representative quickly ended the chat without any more assistance, basically telling me I'm screwed.

If you are not expecting much, or are used to cell phone speakers, I guess these would be an "upgrade". Buy at your own risk.

works good
Pros: great sound for under $100.

Cons: subwoofer won't detect the LFE signal when listening to low levels. especially during night time. i hooked it up on my yamaha AVR. but, who wants to listen low? crank the volume up and the sub will shine!

the best bang for the buck. i mainly used it on my office/gaming room. connected it on my yamaha receiver with my PC, PS3, and XboX 360.

im happy with it! hearing enemies at the back is an advantage on call of duty.

It's OK - just don't expect much
Pros: Sound - OK
Appearance - Great
Mounting Brackets/Hardware - Adaquate
Bass Woofer - Sufficient
Speaker wire inputs - Great

Cons: Mounting speaker-to-wall bracket - BAD!! (3 of eight speaker "female" threaded seats don't line up - are poorly constructed - can't securely fasten speaker to mount). Some might refer to it as "junk".
Currently had to mount wall brackets vertical to secure speakers at bottom, 3 are loosely held at top - can't tighten/"seat" due to mis-aligned construction. 3 of 4 brackets properly supporting speakers by bottom "seats".

One may want to ponder "you get what you pay for" if you are looking for value/quality in the construction. This product is used in an outdoor, covered patio home theater - works for intended purpose. If you are looking for quality sound, might consider looking at a higher-priced product line.

sound good to me
Pros: They sound fine to me. I have an Onkyo TX-NR414 and the speakers sound pretty good.

Cons: They are a little bit on the quiet side. However, that may be my receiver, or it may be that I simply don't blast them. (Not an audiophile here, or have a lot of crazy eqiupment)

For 80 bucks, these can't be beat. i have a lot of friends with sound bars and more expensive "brand name" speakers, and honestly, the monoprice set sound better to me. No exhaustive tests or measuring with DB meters. When I play a movie with lots of booms and swords swinging and "pew pew" sounds going on, I'm now a very happy camper. I think that's all that really matters.

No purchasers remorse here. Just straight up joy.

Not bad at all
Pros: Solid construction, good sound quality for the price.

Cons: Not good enough for a main Home Theater, but a great set for a bedroom, workout room, or child's room 5.1 setup.

Very happy with the quality for the price. Wouldn't put them in my living room home theater, but worked great in my wife's home workout/yoga room.

Great Sound/Great Value
Pros: The Price! good sound quality, speaker mounts for front and rear speakers, impressive sub-woofer

Cons: center speaker not mountable, connecting wires to the speakers is a little tricky

I've been using these speakers for about 2 months now, and I am really impressed. They are in my open living room and replaced an old Kenwood 5.1 Speaker/Receiver set-up that was long past its usable life. They are running through an Onkyo TX NR 414 Receiver. We primarily use them for listening to music or streaming movies/shows through our Roku, but we don't use it for a "theater experience" since we have a 7.1 set-up in our Media Room. All in all, a great value, a tremendous improvement from what I had in the room before, and quality that has made me a true fan of Monoprice.

Good value for the money
Pros: Great value for the money, especially for someone new to the 5.1 home theater experience

Cons: Audible subwoofer hum when the rest of the system is off. "Auto-on" setting for subwoofer does not work consistently.

I purchased this speaker set based on the CNet review and the reviews on Monoprice's website. It's paired with a Denon 1612 receiver in a small living room. Volume and clarity are good, and the price is fantastic. I'm no audiophile, though, and haven't compared it to anything else, but I suspect I'd have to pay a lot more to hear any difference.

My only complaints have to do with the powered subwoofer. Its sound is fine, but there is a clearly audible 60-cycle hum coming from the unit when it is powered on without any input from the receiver. It's not noticeable at all when there is an input signal (when I'm watching a movie, e.g.), but I like to have silence in the room when the amplifier is off. Theoretically, this should be avoidable by switching the subwoofer to the "auto-on" setting however, the signal-detection circuitry doesn't seem to work consistently with low to medium input volume, and the subwoofer cuts in and out at random times, which makes for a less-than-ideal listening experience.

Perhaps in the future I'll have enough money to replace the subwoofer, but for now this is good enough. I feel a little bad criticizing such an inexpensive set of speakers I still think I got my money's worth.

very pleased!
Pros: small size and very easy to swap out with the old speakers I had in that room.

Cons: center speaker looks a little lots on top of the 50 inch tv, used our old one there just because it looked better. Wife said.

I give this 9 because we had to rig it a bit to put on the stands (we got those here also. a great value for 12 or so bucks!) but the quality never lets us down and shipping has always been great and fast! we get all our cables from here, who cares if they are orange or blue, they are behind the tv! we have a theater room in our home, so this is for the living room and it works perfectly not to disrupt the wifes decorating! both very happy!

Pros: Sound Pretty good
Cheap

Cons: 2 speakers don't work after 3 months
Need mounting hardware for center speaker

I have had these speakers for 3 months. 1 has shorted out and keeps shutting down my receiver, so I had to disconnect it, and another has very little volume. The speakers sound great, I just need to get some more satellite speakers.

Pros: 5.1, supports every thing, comes with mounts and very easy to install. All you need is this some speaker wire and a yamaha receiver to change your life

Cons: I wish they would say it requires a receiver because I did not know at first and had to go out and get one.

For under $100 yes, but not for me...
Pros: Sounds good for the money
Full 5.1 system that works well with all the included compents
The speaker mounts with tilt were very nice

Cons: The speakers as one reviewer said are "boom and sizzle", but again, great for the price

I bought these a couple of months ago and they are already boxed up and under my bed. Going to re-sell them for $50 on craigslist.org once I get a new subwoofer, still using the sub that came with this set. For $100 this is the best 5.1 system you can get, but if you can get a few good deals online and build your own system, you are much better off. I replaced the speakers with Klipsch Energy Micro RCs...and WOW, they sound so much cleaner than the Monoprice ones. Again these are "boom an sizzle" but great for the money. They are well built and MOST people will be happy with them. For me, the best part of the set was the subwoofer, pretty sure Monoprice sells that alone on this site for $57 plus shipping, so keep that in mind if you buy this set.

That being said, I may keep the subwoofer and use two of the monoprice speakers and make a 7.1 system which is what I originally intended to do, but not sure, I keep feeling the need to make my system a little better and get rid of the "dead weight".

To clarify, I am no audiophile, much more a videophile, and this review is neutral. Would I buy these if I had little money, yes, and I recommend them to anyone in that position, but for anyone that can shell out a couple hundred more...DO IT. I got the Energy speakers for $60 on a crazy Tigerdirect.com sale so I'm ahead of the game atm.

80 dollars? Unreal!
Pros: Price, sound, looks

Cons: No idea.

Let's pretend I didn't spend 80 dollars on a 5.1 surround sound system. Ok?

I ordered on a Saturday and they shipped via UPS on Monday. Got the speakers on Friday. Nice! Saturday was install day. I had my 250 foot roll of 16 gauge wire, a staple gun, drill, level...all ready to go. Speakers were packed well with individual plastic sleeves. Once I had all the speaker wire up and to my new Yamaha receiver, I began installing the speakers on the wall. Install was a breeze. I LOVE that it came with speaker brackets. Usually you get keyhole notches or you have to buy separate wall mounts. With these C/swivel brackets, my speakers look great and I can angle them for the best sound. Once everything was up and connected, I let my Yamaha receiver do its auto speaker test. That took all of 90 seconds? First thing I did was fire up my Xbox and play some Skyrim. My game loaded and my character was outside. I heard wind. What? Then I heard rain drops. I've had Skyrim for a year. I've never heard wind or rain. Then, I heard my horse snorting behind me. I turned the sound up quite a bit. The sound was so full, so immersive without being annoying. I had the biggest grin on my face and my wife could do nothing but shake her head at me. My speakers sound amazing, they look great and installing them was quite simple.

Now, the kicker.

I PAID 80 BUCKS FOR THIS!! Eighty. You just can't beat that.

Oh, I forgot to mention. EIGHTY DAMN DOLLARS

Amazing
Pros: Price
Sound Quality
Build Quality

Cons: Not fancy looking, not much of a con but they are just basic looking speakers

I bought these and a Harman & Kardon AVR Receiver. They sound amazing. Subwoofer puts out plenty of power for explosions and even does double duty as a sub for my vinyl collection paired with the 8251 bookshelf speakers. After hooking up my dad's theater in a box setup and being very underwhelmed, I thought I would piece my own kit together. It sounds night and day different than my dad's, while being about $200 cheaper total.

Pros: On time - simple to install and it sounds great for the price point in a small living room 14 by 18 feet.
Really impressed and I can hear why it got great reviews at CNet etc. I am still setting the sweet spot as to bass crossover setting - but thats my problem and not the speakers. Nicely packed and there are instructions - oh go on - at this price you cant be dissappointed

Cons: I can think of one bad thing to note ! And I am not an employee of Monoprice just an impressed customer.

How can they sound this good?
Pros: Sound, price, sound, price,

Cons: zero

Let me start by stating I do not normally rate products, but these speakers sound so good I feel like I need to tell someone. Trust me, you will not go wrong with these.

After reading the reviews, I prompted my Father in-law to buy these. After the installation, I ran a quick set-up with Audyssey (Onkyo receiver) and some minor tweaks to the subwoofer settings. He immediately had an exceptionally great surround sound experience. Clear, crisp, and sufficiently loud. His room is roughly 15' x 15' and I'm not sure how the sub would perform in a much larger room, but this system is more than sufficient from a volume perspective for the average room. The clarity was GREAT too.

You CANNOT beat these speakers for three or four times the price. Other raters stated "buy" these speakers and I whole heartedly agree.

What a Steal for the price!!
Pros: Outstanding Sound quality. Good Lows from the powered sub! Easy hook up with the speaker posts and enclosed brackets!

Cons: A center speaker bracket would have been helpful but that is a very small con!

I was very surprised how well this package sounded when it was hooked up to my Panasonic 5.1 AV system! I am a bit of an audiophile so the sound distinction is important to me! I purchased this for my daughter who was getting her first apartment. It is a small living room of about 10 x 12 and it fills the room wonderfully! Excellent highs and mids that I was not expecting. Had sound characteristics of a system costing three times the price. I highly recommend this system for someone looking as a first HD setup or those who are very budget conscience but still want a great sounding system.

I'm a believer
Pros: *PRICE*
Sound quality
Small design

Cons: Short on instructions
Recommended speaker wire connectors not ideal

First, for context, I am writing this review having had these speakers for just a couple of days, setting them up with my equally new Onkyl NR-TX616 and monoprice's 14AWG CL2 speaker wire. Also, I'm upgrading for the first time from a Panasonic HTiB DVD system so I am writing this more as an excited entrant into "component" audio.

The sound on these speakers is truly fantastic. I throw my lot in with others here who have raved about the quality-value ratio of these speakers. They produce space-filling, clear sound overall. I've been doing some tweaking from my receiver and would like to get a bit more definition out of the front satellites, but I attribute that more the receiver than the speakers the same satellites are used for the rear and sound great.

I do have one minor qualm and another more concerning issue. The minor qualm is what others have mentioned in terms of a lack of directions for what to do with the included accessories. I'm sure I'll figure it out as I go along, but a quick setup sheet would have been a nice gesture.

More concerning for me is the fact that the product description recommends monoprice's pin plugs to connect to the speaker terminals. I cannot overstate how incompatible these are, particularly with the center speaker. The plugs simply will not fit into the center speaker terminals (too long/bulky), and I had to go against all my principles and buy flexible connectors from the other "M" brand, from which I usually stay away. As for the satellites, the recommended connectors stick out of the bottom a good half inch or so. This probably isn't as much of an issue if you're going to mount your speakers (which I now intend to do), but there's no way the speakers will sit flat on any surface. Even when I mount them, I'm pretty sure I won't like the looks of the plugs sticking out from the bottom and will probably have to buy more flexible connectors. It's a shame monoprice doesn't sell such connectors!

I realize an inordinate amount of my review is in the negative. I really do love these speakers, and the probelms I have with them are not at all related to their primary purposehigh quality sound.

Great speakers and Sub
Pros: The satellite speakers ,centre channel and subwoofer are all well built.
Smooth sounding and precise response.
Awesome price.

Cons: No speaker wire, although decent quality wire at a substansial gauge would increase the cost of this already really well priced product.

The 5.1 speakers were installled into a medium sized room. The 60 watt subwooffer has plenty of punch which suits the environment. The variable crossover frequency sub is a really nice feature and the auto standbyf feature is great also. The system sounds full without too much tweaking. I am using a mid-quality Yamaha 5.1 reciever to drive the speakers/subwoofer with extraoridnary results.
I have installed the speakers using high quality 12 AWG speaker wire although the runs are relatively short (max 10 feet per). The speakers were easy to connect with the heavy duty push type connectors.
I would highly recommend this system to any one looking for oustanding value. I haven't seen anything at triple this price point that sounds as good as this product.

You get what you pay for...
Pros: Might be worth it for the "cheap-skates" out there.

Cons: The review title says it all.

Don't expect much from this HTIB. The subwoofer is basically useless in a large room. Sats can't handle any good power before bottoming out.

Great for the price
Pros: Great sound for the size and for the price.

I ordered these for a friend's bedroom and was very impressed by the sound quality. For under 100$ you really can't beat these.

AMAZING VALUE1
Pros: Look nice, great sound, easy to install.

Cons: would like a wall mount braket similar to the others for the center channel.

Great speakers! Replaced a HTIB setup with these, paired with a sony STR 925 receiver. sounds great. crisp highs and lows, and doesnt distort when pushed. I later added 2 tower speakers sony ss 6000's, and i have a very nice surround sound 7.1 setup. i couldnt be happier with the value and quality of these unit.s

Low budget entry-level speakers
Pros: Awesome speakers if on a budget. Solid build and great looking. Good sound for the price.

Cons: I can't complain at $95.16 plus shipping out the door.I

I ordered this unit from MONOPRICE six weeks ago and just paired it up an entry-level Denon 1713 AVR that I received yesterday. Unfortunately while calibrating the speakers I discovered that I had a bad satellite speaker. Even with the one bad speaker the sound is still great. I thought I might have a problem returning the bad speaker because it had been six weeks ago that I received my order from MP. To my surprise after chatting with the return department they will be sending a new complete unit. I just need to return the first one in the box that the second one comes in. How simple and painless is that? Momoprice and their staff simply amazes me.

Great Value for Money
Pros: Price - Good luck finding a 5.1 system for this price anywhere!

Sound - Good for a small room such as a bedroom. Having matched drivers is ideal for creating a good sound stage in Home Theater.

Build Quality - Solid for a system at this price.

Cons: No center channel wall mount - could be an issue if you want to put the speaker in front of a television with a low profile or if you have a wall mounted tv.

If you want 5.1 surround sound on a budget this is the way to go. Pair this with an entry level receiver from Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo, etc. and you have a system that's much better than many of the Home Theater in a Box's you wil find for less than half or even a quarter of the price!

Yes, the sound isn't perfect, it suffers from the same drawbacks that all small satellite speakers do, a noticeable gap in the mid-range (the frequency below those produced by the satellites and above those produced the sub). But this is not specific to the system.

In conclusion, you really cannot go wrong for the price,go ahead and pick this up, I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Great Audio for the Value
Pros: Small speakers
Decent finish
Good Sound (for the dollar)
Punchy bass

Cons: High volume reveals muddy sounds

I bought this set for my computer based on comparison reviews, and I was pleasantly surprised. I thought I would need a second pair of speakers for music, but this package works great when paired with my old Nakamichi head unit, especially and medium and low volume. Turning up the knob too high reveals the only real weakness (but I didn't plan to use these for high-volume use).

No business being this good for the price.
Pros: *Cost, cost cost!
*Sound

Cons: * Lack of keyhole or direct mount to speaker cabinet.

I'm cheap. Plain and simple. So i "splurged" and purchased this set during Monoprice's anniversary blowout. I'm very happy that I did. The sound you get from this cheap set is amazing for the price, and quite frankly has not business sounding as good as it does for the price. If you are on the fence, DO NOT HESITATE...buy these now.

Great Value
Pros: Good sound at a great price!

Cons: Not the best connections ever, but do work. Center speaker does not have a ceiling/wall mount, the other four do.

You're not going to beat these speakers at this price. Sound great, like those that will run several hundred dollars. They are not top notch, but they are definitely a great value because of the price. Dollar for dollar, you won't find a better speaker system. Will buy again (already have). Needs center speaker mount option, had to get creative there.

Great for the price!
Pros: Good Sound
Quality Construction
GREAT price!
Mounts included

Cons: No speaker wires (knew that going in)
Mids are a bit flat (may improve after breaking in period)
Bass is a bit boomy, but not terrible
Speaker wire conections are a huge pain to use, especially the center channel
No wall screws for the mount

Just got these speakers today and I must say, I am pretty impressed. For the price they have great sound and look nice as well. They work great in my bedroom on my older 4.1 receiver!

My major complaint with these speakers is the speaker connections. They are a pain to use. They are the kind that you have to hold down and then push the wire into. The center channel in particular was difficult to attach a wire to. You would need very small very agile fingers to do it easily. I was able to do it after about ten minutes of messing with it. I guess once they are set up this isn't a bid deal, but it sure made the setup precess lengthy.

Also, for some reason there are no mounting screws for the wall mounts. There are screws to attach the speakers to the mounts, but nothing to attach them to the walls. I don't know if this is just an issue with my set or true with all sets. This sin't a huge deal, just a bit annoying.

I would say that if you are looking for a decent set of cheap speakers pick these guys up. The sound is outstanding, there are just a few small issues that can be over looked for speakers at less than $100. I actually picked them up on sale and got them for $83 WITH shipping! Very happy with them at that price!

One Month Update:

After using these speakers for about a month now I can honestly say that they only get better. After you pass the 'break-in' period they really start to shine. They have amazing depth of field and sound clarity. Obviously, they aren't as good as a Energy or Paradigm system, but those cost 10-20 times as much. Either way, I am very impressed with them. They work great for my bedroom! I even think they sound better than the Polk Audio system I have in the living room that cost twice as much and didn't even include a sub!

by clhinds78
Six Month Update:

I am loving these speakers even more. I recently upgraded my receiver to an older, but still good, Sony 5.1 unit. It has made a huge different. Sound is fuller and clearer with great depth of filed. I just got done watching The Hunger Game on Blu-Ray and I was blown away by these speakers using Dolby Digital. I think they sound better than my Polk Audio's that cost twice as much. Vocals are very clear and bass is punchy but not boomy. I would recommend these speakers to almost anyone looking for good small, satallite-style speakers. Way to go Monoprice!

Pros: AMAZING sound for the price. BLOWS AWAY my Panasonic SC-BT230 5.1 HTIB system that it replaced.

Cons: Would like to see a center channel mounting option, some screw holes or maybe brackets. Had to fabricate a mount myself. Alternate mounting options for other speakers would be nice as well. Screw holes on back for mounting to monoprice speaker stands maybe?

Worth every penny. A great setup and compliments my receiver nicely. Would like to see monoprice offer a nice set of tower speakers in the near future.

A Best Buy!
Pros: Very affordable for the high quality!
Very good highs and lows!

Cons: Center speaker could have used a bracket....small con!
Could have came with a RCA two to one adapter for the Sub! Another small con!

The system came nicely packaged and in the time frame given. Installation was easy with the given speaker brackets. I used 16/2 wire and it fit very well with the speaker bindings. Not sure if 14/2 would make it into the bindings. once installed the sound was very good. It was on par or exceeded that of other systems I have listened to at three to four time the cost! I also tried music through them and that also sounded very good. Again on par with a system at three times the cost! This is truly a great buy!!

Speaker Feedback
Pros: Ease of installation - Excellent Sound Quality - Solid speaker housings

Cons: umm, well, like others have mentioned - no bracket for the center channel. Maybe I missed that in the description. Not enough to change from the 10 rating though!

I've been hesitant to purchase these for about a year. I figured Cheap Cost=Cheap Product. This is NOT true. I'm still in shock over this product. The sound quality is excellent. I needed some smaller speakers for my small man-cave, my existing were taking up too much space. These fixed me right up. I got a great product for my money. Freq. range is great. I fine tuned my 5.1 channel setup with these speakers and I must say, the sound blew me away. Thanx Monoprice!

Fits the Bill
Pros: Price
All units are seperate, so when you're ready, or can afford it, all speakers can be upgraded one by one if needed!

Cons: Speaker wire terminals are placed in a weird spot for included mounting brackets. The speakers must be cocked to the side slightly.

These are great FOR THE PRICE! They sound really nice if you want to get surround sound. Yeah, they are a bit fatiguing to listen to for extended periods, but they sound clear even at loud volumes. These sound much better than my old TIB and because each speaker is independent, you can keep upgrading you're speakers one at a time. I can't imagine a more ideal way to get into the surround game!

Impressive for the price
Pros: Price. Appearance. Performance. Sound.

Cons: None so far, albeit limited usage

Wanted something for the master bedroom to connect to wireless receiver for ambient sound and low volume movie watching in bed etc.....have not driven system to extremes, but the speakers do a nice job at low to normal listening levels. For under 100$ they are perfect for the application. I don't know if they would work for a full primary surround sund system in a media room, but at the levels I tried them, they did not break down....I would recommend the. For most applications but have no basis to recommend for a main media room system.

Great package for an awesome price
Pros: Easily mountable to a number of speaker stands, but comes with wall mounts!

Cons: None!

My basement T.V. just didn't put out a quality sound when watching movies, and when I turn it way up it distorts badly. Thought for the price, how could I go wrong with these speakers and boy was I right. I am VERY impressed at the heavy quality construction of the speakers. They sound better than the Panasonic system I have upstairs on my big T.V. that cost almost $1000.00.

2. Excellent Build Quality
3. Great Price

Cons: 1. None

The Monoprice 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System is bar none
the best system around for less than $100.00. The sound quality blows
away systems costing 2 times, 3 times, even 4 times as much. Don't be

Pros: Great sound
Easy setup
Looks great

Cons: Bass balance a bit weak (but I might not have it properly adjusted....)
Mounting brackets are insufficient. They don't allow for any vertical movement.

For the price, I cannot complain in the slightest. $100 for 5.1 sound system that actually sounds good is nearly too good to be true. I would buy it all over again if I had to.

Best Speakers for the Price
Pros: -Quality-to-Price ratio blows every other option out of the water
-Solid, quality construction and feel (and looks too!)
-Great volume, low distortion
-Comes with mounting brackets (Like and idiot I ordered a set)

Cons: -Not QUITE as crisp and clean as my $1,200 Engegy Takes
-Not QUITE as tuned as my Energys either (but I have weird setup)
-Center channel was only speaker without mounting bracket
-Had to wait three weeks for backorder :)

Okay, so it was time for music in my newly built shop, and I had an old 5.1 receiver laying around. Every set of thift store speakers I saw were 20-40 bucks, and I thought, heck, I've always wanted to know how these things sound and for an extra $40 my shop would be ROCKin :)

First of all these are better than just every Polk set I've ever owned/listened to. They're THAT good. Overall I'd say they aren't as crisp or tuned as my set of Energys, but at $1,120 price difference they are certainly a better value for my money.

To be fair its in a concrete floor shop, and I have the surrounds mounted pretty far apart and weighted heavily to the back speakers to balance the sound while working at my workbench. So its not exactly a home theatre room, I suspect they'd sound even better in my living room. I think that in place of my Energys they'd probably be 95% as good, and 14X cheaper!

Don't forget that it comes with mounting brackets (I have a set now I shouldn't have ordered if anyone wants them :), except of course for the center channel, which would have been nice, at least for my application.

Simply superior to ALL midgrade equipment being sold in big box stores right now, and better than about half of the higher end stuff. No kidding, it really lived up to the professional reviews I read out on the web.

Very nice.
Pros: -Sound is exactly what I was looking for. Center channel is very clear. Subwoofer surprised me
-Aesthetically pleasing nice weight. Monoprice logo not as intrusive as I expected
-Well made units plugs on the back very solid

Cons: -Haven't discovered any real cons yet... I did have trouble removing the front grill but that's no big deal. I guess these would look better with the Monoprice logo on the bottom instead of the top of the grill

I'm no audiophile, but I am a professional DJ and I know when something sounds good or not. I bought these to replace a bargain soundbar I had purchased as temporary sound for my living room. I was looking for something low cost, would be very center channel heavy and crisp/clear rather than thick low end. After reading the reviews on these speakers i decided to take the gamble and get these speakers Paired with a decent low cost Yamaha 525w receiver (which worked out perfectly) these little guys sound pretty darn good! I know the receiver has a lot to do with the sound but these speakers seem like they can take the signal and really deliver. The subwoofer sounds pretty good, better than the one that came with my soundbar.. it's not gonna blow your socks off (that's what my powered JBL 18" subs are for) but it can deliver some firepower as well. I'd say these sound good and I'd expect to pay around $400-$500 for this set and still be satisfied with the purchase.

I'm sure the audiophiles will contest, but like I said I'm not one of those guys. I just like to enjoy the movie experience in my own home, and for 80 something dollars this set fits the bill and then some. Highly recommend!

Great system on a budget
Pros: Price, Construction, Connectors, Brackets included

Cons: Bass is weaker than my $200 speaker set, but was still tight as long as not pushed too hard.

Bought these as soon as I saw the price. Crossed my fingers that they wouldn't be junk, and they aren't.
No, the sub isn't going to shake your living room, but the bass it produces is pretty clear and tight. I was shocked to see the Auto-On feature which is missing from a lot of Subs costing far more. A grill over the cone would be nice, but I can add one for $10.
The Center and Sats have metal grills, and better connectors than my more expensive Polk 5.1 system. Yes, the brackets are plastic, but feel sturdy enough. The fact that you get the foam spacers and very slick looking bolts to attach them is another plus.
I appreciated the little feet for the center channel. A bracket for it would be useful for some, but I don't need one.
Great deal for a budget system.

No need expensive speakers...
Pros: The sound is outstanding!!!
I telling you guys, a have been looking for a set of speaker since I have my sony 7.1 receiver amplifier 2 year ago, and no one has a set of speaker for sell. Every one has a equipment with the speakers included. The one I found extremely expensive.
I receive my order from Monoprice, easy to set up the system, no brainier, and the sound?
Well, I love it my surround system never sound like as of today. Impressive.
Love the weight of every single component you can not go wrong buying this set.

Cons: Wondering if you can sell the speakers as units.
I still 4 of those satellite speakers to complete the system set up.
I will ask if Monoprice will be flexible on selling me in separate units the 4 I need.

Outstanding performance.
Outstanding sound.
Don't waste your time buy here.
You save time, and money, and gas!

This tight wad loves the tight sound!!!
Pros: The sound is crisp and tight. Very detailed on the highs and mids. Very good construction and feel. The sub has some very good thump when you need it...Paired this system with the Monoprice speaker stands PID 3022 and they look as good as they sound!!!

Cons: Only problem I have is that wasn't any documentation on the speaker bracket mounting or the system as a whole. Only paper was about the sub and the inputs on the sub.

I work in radio so audio quality is very important to me at work as well as at home. I bought these and found Monoprice just because of the CNet review. I couldn't be happier with the product or company. Overall best system for the dollar...PERIOD!!! Very awesome!!!

Great for the price!
Pros: Good bass from subwoofer and ability to control frequency/volume (not common in speakers of this price point), decent weight to the drivers, two drivers in the center speaker for better vocal reproduction.

Cons: Lacking a little in the midrange which is common with satellite/sub setups

A very good 5.1 system for the price. If its mated with a decent receiver than you should be fairly happy with the sound (using an older Yamaha HTR 5640). If you're an audiophile you probably won't be happy but then again why are you buying a sub $100 speaker package. Perfect for a bedroom, apartment (warning - sound level can probably get you evicted), kids room etc.
These appear to be very similar to the MTX Audio HTB1 which sell for over $200...

Pros: Great price for the quality of the subwoofer.
wire connections on speakers are easy and convenient to use.

Cons: The mounting brackets are a little cheesy but they have to save money somewhere. The satellite speakers are not the highest quality but pretty decent for $80

Over all I think its a good deal for what you get. The sound quality is good as long as you have a decent stereo or surround system to run the speakers

Pros: Great sound, which is what counts.

Cons: Not much to look at, don't really like my brand printed in huge letters on the front of any product. Also would like if they accepted banana plugs.

Bought based on CNET review. Impressed is the only word. Just watched Alien and it sounded awesome. Totally worth the money.

Hometheater 5.1 system
Pros: Obviously great price !!! Good sound ,
Easy hook-up , mounting speakers is easily done.
Great deal for system. Would be a great gift for anybody .

Cons: Only 1 con - Subwoofer should have one directional cable
For sub to receiver instead of two RCA plugs. But still good sound.

Great set up for price, and solid product!
But if your a big (audiophile) you probably
Would want something a little better.
But for the price you can't beat it.
Monoprice is bar none the best for Everything you need and the quality
Of products are great for a fraction of the price of other manufacters.
MONOPRICE From a scale of 1-10 is a 10!!

WOW
Pros: Price, Great Sound

Cons: Instructions are pretty lame.

I'm not an audiophile, in fact I try to avoid these projects but I wanted the surround sound experience and have not been impressed by sound bars that I have heard. Monoprice may as well not include instructions as there are steps that the instructions don't mentions such as the little feet that have to be attached to the center channel speaker and the method of assembling those neoprene bushings between the wall speakers and the wall mount brackets. I guess spending $500 or more will get you good instructions. I paired these speakers to the low end Pioneer VSX 521 receiver purchased on a 1 day deal at Amazon for $140. The Pioneer is low end because it doesn't have the extra features of the high end units but still has the power.(another case of lousy instructions) I just can't believe the great sound that I get from this setup. Unfortunately I may have to move everything down to my "man cave" family room to keep peace in the house.

Great sound, low price.
Pros: Sound Quality, Ease of Setup, Look Good.

Cons: I wish a mounting bracket for the center channel was included so I could hang it above my TV.

The sound quality is really, really good for the amount you pay. Easy setup and they look nice.

Nice!
Pros: Just like everyone says: Cheap! Excellent sound quality for the price. Sub is plenty loud for home theater in small to medium sized rooms.

Cons: If you listen to bass-heavy music, the sub will not blow you away. You'll still be plenty annoying to roommates or an apartment complex, but it's not like you're pounding a 12 at high wattage.

The threaded inserts for the mounts are sometimes crooked, but that's quite minor

I was very skeptical, but CNET's review pushed me to buying them. I'm quite pleased overall.

awesome sound and best bang for the buck
Pros: price, look, build quality everything is included: wall brackets. an most of all awesome sound. subwoofer has full adjustable settings.

Cons: nothing yet.

after waiting about a month for this to come back in stock, it finally came back and as soon as it was i jumped at the chance at getting this, and since i am close to the warehouse i had it in my home the next day with will call pickup. setup was a no brainer, duh! theyre speakers! the only thing you need in addition is a RCA Plug/2 RCA Jack cable (item 663), sold on monoprice for about 60 cents, if your receiver does not have stereo rca output for the sub, which im not sure which do because a sub is a mono output to begin with. anyways thats the only thing you have to be conscious about, but not a big deal or deal breaker. so yeah after setting everything up, the first thing you have to do is mess with the settings on the back of the sub, the frequency and the volume. make sure you have something with constant bass output so you have something to work with. everyone complaining about muddled sub performance needs to stop crying and turn up the frequency on the back so the sub has sharp clean bass, but not too much i have it around 75% and i have the volume at like 50% and that goes well with movies, football and anything running from the tv to my receiver. now those settings will always vary on how big your room is and all that so just tinker with it for a bit and its gonna rule. i get sharp non muddled bass and now with the speakers, they get sharp crisp highs and they are very clear, even at high volume. also as always when you add new speakers of even move your setup, run the calibration, either manual or auto, so that your recevier knows how your speakers work. all that done these will kick major ass at anything coming down the pipe from your receiver. awesome product. i am proud to have monoprice's name on my speakers.

Worth a lot more!
Pros: Great sound quality! Nice touch with included mounting brackets, great price, good looking all around great buy!

Cons: Red light on subwoofer a bit too bright

I don't usually write reviews but felt that these speakers were worthy of praise!
If you are looking for excellent sound quality for a low price and don't care about brand name, these speakers are for you.
I hooked them up to my sony receiver in a 5.1 surround setup Using 14 ga monoprice shielded speaker wire and the supplied rca cable for the subwoofer. I also used a rocketfish wireless transmitter for the rear surround speakers ( which by the way is wonderful as it reduces the amount of wiring that needs to be run and is much cleaner looking!)
When iturned on the system I had to adjust the subwoofer level to almost off! tremendous bass effect, with hardwood floors though almost overwhelming!
I calibrated everything and there is no unusual noise anywhere. Just clean accurate sound reproduction without any noticeable lag anywhere!
I am extremely pleased with the speakers and Monoprice.
Monoprice continues to exceed my expectations on everything from support to product selection. When I decided to purchase these speakers they were temporarily out of stock so I asked that they notify me when they were available and they texted me the next day so I ordered right away and had them 3 days later!
As everything I have ever ordered, It arrived in perfect condition and in original packaging. Keep it up guys, I am sold on you and your great products

Outstanding Deal
Pros: Price!

Cons: Very minor construction defects. You won't see them unless you look very closely. Won't accept banana plugs or straight plugs. You will need to go with bare wire connections of angle pin plugs (which Monoprice does not sell.)

I really feel like I got more than what I paid for. I wouldn't use these speakers for a large living room but they are great for a bedroom or study.

Pros: Great price
Sounds good
Shipped fast - at the door in three days

Cons: Heavy - shipping was expensive.
I found the silver Monoprice label too be vey dominant on the speakers. I used a black magic marker to make it a little duller.

Great product great price
Pros: Sound is very good, price is awesome. System works really well together.

Cons: Only con is the center channel speaker does not come with a wall mount

I ordered the monoprice 5.1 system not expecting much for the price I paid but when I received it I was sure surprised. The sound is great and the system works very well together. I would highly recommend the system. The price point is beyond belief and dealing with mono prices online ordering system was a breeze.

Awesome! One word to describe the Home theater 5.1 speakers
Pros: - nice looking speakers for the size
- little distortion at high volume
- very good clarity of sound
- Movies sound great
- Used it as a stereo setup for music with the two front speakers and SW and the sound is great for the price.

Cons: - Sub Woofer does not have a protective cover for the speaker.
- The screws on the C brackets are short and with the foam rings in place needs a little force to latch on.
- There is no marking values to understand the frequency setup for the subwoofer
- No detailed manual for setup

I chances upon the Cnet review for the speakers while shipping for one. The speakers were well packed and was delivered hassle free. I hooked them up to a Sony STRK 740p receiver. plugged in a DVD player, VCR and a setup the speakers using the C brackets. I was ready within an hour and was listening to some great sound. I am impressed with the quality of the speakers for the cost at which I got them. a feather in the Monoprice cap for such technology. I would recommend this speaker set in a heartbeat to any of my friends.

Best Bang For Your Buck of 2011
Pros: Unbelievable price with Quality Sound

Cons: None

Picked this up for my main TV in my apartment due to the great reviews I saw on Cnet and the like. Figured with reviews that good and that amazing of a price it should be good enough. Was I pleasantly surprised! It was more than good enough. I could never of imagined this level of sound quality at that price point.

An absolute homerun Monoprice!

Excellent Value Home Theater Speakers for Den/Bedrooms
Pros: Good range and sound
great value
Easy setup

Cons: Subwoofer base sounds great but as noted on website...use care when moving (no protection for cone)
Not audiophile sound quality
Manual skimpy

Reused older receiver to improve sound for tv setup in bedroom. Surprised by quality of sound. Definitely worth money particularly if you have an older receiver not in use. Not as good as my Bose setup on my main TV but perfect for smaller setup. Huge step up from built-in TV speaker.
