What it is not.

Pros: Its cheap.
Cons: Its cheap.
There are amazing machines out there that can completely rebuff the surface of an optical disc to a near perfect condition. THIS IS NOT IT. It will not remove ANY scratch that are more than a hairline.
Most likely if you can feel the scratch with your nail this machine wont do it. Monoprice really missed the chance to make an awesome kit here. All that was requried was some higher grit sanding discs and more power to the wheels.
I am planning to try and modify this device which may then give good results but as is you may as well use tissue paper to buff your discs.

Doesn't repair Wii disc
|
Pros: Seems an excellent product and probably very good for regular disc such as CD or DVD.
Cons: Doesn't repair Wii disc. When you repair a disc you have to be careful and clean the leftover liquid for polishing because if it leak on the disc it will stay and can't be removed
In general, as always the service at Monoprice is excellent.

I sort of miss the Memorex Optifix
|
Pros: It is cheap.
Simple to use.
Cons: It is too noisy.
It takes quite a while for each process.
Leaves annoying circles on discs.
Refill kits are only for sale here and take a while to arrive.
It seems indeed that Memorex's Optifix is hard to find now, specially its refills. I looked at this product as a replacement/alternative to the Optifx. While I was able to clean a BluRay disc with ease, some of my DVDs now have some odd pixelation they didn't have. Maybe I need to do the process more but how to know and the pads might wear off quickly. Maybe Monoprice needs to create an "expensive" disc repair machine which they could sell from $70 to $100.

Makes Old Discs Into New Ones
|
Pros: Performs very well. Takes those CDs lying around your car out of a case and polishes them back to like new condition. It's thoughtfully designed.
Cons: Takes a while (~4 minutes) to rehab each disc and the process requires 3 different pairs of pads.
Well worth the money.

Excellent item
|
Pros: Works great!
Not expensive.
Cons: You have to buy the refills from monoprice.com as they are not in stores.
This item is great for those who loved Memorex's disc cleanner and disc repair thing but problem is, the buffs and liquids have to be bought from this site, so it takes a while for them to arrive.

More Pads - Less Fluids!
|
Pros: Works very well for the price!
Cons: On the cd repair machine and pads. The fluids outlast the pads by a substantial margin. You should offer the pads alone in a multipak. I and i'm sure many others would buy more machines if we didn't have to waste money on bottles of fluid that will never be used.
Aside from the whining noise and the pad situation, this is actually a pretty effective machine.

Good but not perfect
|
Pros: Easy to use, and can make discs playable again.
Cons: Noisy. Directions say nothing about cleaning the pads which can get gooey after several CD cleanings. As shipped, the red pads were preinstalled but one had a crease in it that scratched my CDs. I was never able to completely buff out the scratches made by the red pads.
I've been ripping my CDs to my PC using the AccurateRip database to check for bit perfect copies. Some of my discs did not copy perfectly, some due to scratches and some because of bad CDs. This cleaner was able to make very few discs read bit-perfect again. If the CD itself was defective, then no amount of disc cleaning could help it.
Note: playing CDs and making bit perfect rips are two very different things. I think this cleaner could get most CDs playable again, maybe even 99% as claimed, but if you want to fix your CDs to make bit perfect copies you are pretty much out of luck.

Works wells on DVD's, cant do anythign to Bluray's
|
Got this kit because i got tired of having to order replacement discs from netflix every time i got a scratched one on the mail (which is pretty much every other disc) and this little machine does wonders. However Bluray discs is a different story, buffing pads do absolutely nothing to the bluray surface. My guess is that bluray having a tougher coating requires a different set of pads , maybe a little bit more aggressive.
Other than that, works as described.

Pros: Price.
Refill supplies are cheap.
Works better than a DiscDR.
Drawer is nicer than expected.
Cons: Wall wart is larger than it needs to be, should have been built into unit.
This is a great product i would reccomed to anyone. The sworls it makes do not.har you disc. Not as loud as other reviews had lead me to belive
Question for the Monoprice staff.
I wonder if it is ok to just use the blue pads to clean a disc that is only dirty?

Amazing
|
Pros: Its perfect. Easy to use. Storage for pads and cleaner. no batteries required. It works as advertised
Cons: It is a little loud but thats not really a con.
My 3 year old has a very extensive DVD collection. After being handled by a 3 year old you can imagine how banged up his collection got. his favorite DVD would always hang up in the same spot, it got to a point where we taught him how to hit the skip button to get past it. it only took 2 passes through the repair kit to fix the problem. turnes out he has been missing an entire chapter on that disc all this time. I have been oming to mon price for a while now and will not shop anywhere else. If I need something and they sell it, I'm buying it here.

Pros: Great Price, Replacement pads are well priced as well.
Cons: Does not get deep enough to remove scratches in most cases.
I rent DVD's from the library rather than Netflix, the downside is they don't take care of their discs. So I picked this up since the reviews were so good. It does repair the disc maybe 30% of the time not 99%, even after several cycles through the machine. The red scratch pads loose their effectiveness after 10 cycles or so. I used to own the SIMO DVD repair machine a few years back and it did the job much better, completely removing most scratches and making the disc look new rather then leaving the swirls this one leaves. If you can afford $100.00 resurfacer I'd recommend spending the extra money especially if you have a lot to resurface.

Pros: Cost. Its cheap. It will clean your disks if thats all you need.
Cons: Its just a disc cleaner. Does not do what its advertised about this product.
I tried to different units. After trying the first unit I submitted the following review
"I was excited to see how many good review this product has. I ordered it. I've tried the product with dvd movies, music cds and game cds. So far it has not done what it promises. In fact, in some cases the dvd movies wont even load up after using this product on them. I've tried putting them on two different dvd players (one of them is a b-ray player) and the players can not read the data on them. I also tried the same movies on the drive on my computer and laptop and the same thing happens. I have also tried repeating the "buffing, repairing, cleaning" process. It does not do any better."
The staff at monoprice.com sent me a replacement unit. I hate to admit the replacement unit did not perform any better. It will take minor scratches. However, in some cases it will render the movie dvd or music cd useless.
This has been the only product from monoprice that has let me down. So far everything I have ordered from them has been top notch quality. Because of that it saddens me that I had to give this product a bad review. I just dont want people to get their hopes up like I did because of the other positive reviews.

Saved my xbox game
|

I bought this to try and save one of my xbox games that got a deep, circular scratch in it after the xbox got knocked over. The scratch was very deep and seemed as though the disc would never be usable again. After the first run through, there was a visible reduction in the small scratches but not so much on the large one that kept the game from working. Before using this Disc repairer, the xbox wouldn't recognize the disc as a game. After about 20 cycles, the xbox recognized the game but would fail about 10 seconds into the loading of the game. At this point, I rented the game and downloaded it to my harddrive and now use my repaired disc to start the game and it works perfectly.

CD Cleaning - Take Two
|
Pros: Nice compact kit with 3 pair of buffing pads. Contains all solutions too. One button start is effective. Low cost was attractive.
Cons: Case is a bit flimsy and the latch is questionable. Though mine broke after 3 uses but it seems to be holding now. Not sure what happened when it would no hold or close. Kept popping open so I put something heavy on top to hold it closed while it did it's thing. Buffing cycle does not seem to complete the entire surface of the disk. That is why multiple passes is required.
I had a bad audio CD with a Book on CD from the local library and it would not read so I gave it a go with the brand new machine. Well after one pass (all 3 disks) it was so cloudy it would not even read. Panic set in since it was a loaner book from the library. So I continued to run it several more times (like 4) with just disk 2 and 3 (blue yellow) before it finally got clear enough to be read properly. Would highly recommend this only be tested or tried for the first time with a disk you will not care about if it is unable to recover.

|
Pros: Very effective at cleaning and surfacing CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Ray.
Cons: Doesn't always work on first shot-sometimes need to run it twice or thrice.
A must-have for the Netflix user, or someone clumsy with their CDs and DVDs. Saved movie nite on one occasion.

Great for CDs and DVDs. A disaster for HD-DVDs.

Pros: I've successfully used the Monoprice kit to restore some used CDs and DVDs I've purchased. The results were impressive. The video instructions are clear and replacement pads and solutions are available at low Monoprice prices. (Monoprices?)
Cons: HD-DVD lost to BluRay in the technology battle. I chose the losing side and have a number of aging HD-DVD disks that are beginning to deteriorate despite my attempts to treat them with care. One of the disks in the excellent BBC Planet Earth series was no longer playable so I tried to restore it using the Monoprice kit. Apparently the surface of the disk is not robust enough to withstand the cleaning process. The disk is now a blur of swirls from the cleaning process. I have not tried to clean a BluRay disk so I cannot comment on the effectiveness of the Monoprice kit when used with BluRays.
A great tool for maintaining a CD and/oe DVD collection.

Good for minor scratches
|
Pros: Takes out very light scratches quickly. It will fix most disc problems, even deeper ones, if you run it through enough cycles. Leaves the disc looking better than other scratch removal machines if you're planning on reselling them.
Cons: Very noisy. Slow. Takes forever to get out most scratches deep enough to affect readability. If you need to repair a lot of discs, pay more for something bigger and faster.
Very nice price for this unit compared to other places. If you have more than a couple of scratched discs, go ahead and order at least one refill kit. You'll need it. You can get much faster results with some 2000-grit sandpaper and some rubbing compound, but given enough time, this machine will get the job done without all the work. Be prepared for a lot of noise.

Cons: Can't fix Xbox DVD's that are really scratched.
If you have an Xbox CD that has a few scratches, this works.
However, if the CD has alot of scratches, this will not do the job.

Not exactly what I expected but good

Pros: seems to very thoroughly clean and buff
Cons: Noisy - I have to put it in a drawer while working
Takes 3 to 4 cycles to process a scratched disc
Didn't repair completely a couple of discs
I've started using this product hoping to repair some discs including CDRs that have been used in my car stereo. They have the typical scratches and skips that come from being handled a little rougher than my home discs.
The process can be about 15 minutes per disc. Instructions are not that thorough but good enough to know what I was doing at each step. I made a mistake the first time with using the wrong pad but that was minor.
The biggest problem is that this is a noisy machine. It is loud enough to interrupt conversation.
It seems to clean well but it leaves swirl marks on all but about 1/8th of the outside area of the disc.
A couple of discs with obvious scratches played better but still skipped later on in playing in my car.
Not the godsend I read about but it works well and should repair the majority of discs I have.

Disc Repair

Pros: Saves your arm from manual polishing.
Cons: Noisy, Poor polishing chamicals
The system saves alot of manual labor trying to remove scratches. I found that the polishing chemicals did not work well. The polish does not remove scratches. It is a polymer that fills the scratch. The idea is sound, but the supplied polish leaves a haze and can actually make matters worse. I recommend using Novus 3-part polish system with the machine.

Basic, Good, Great Price

Pros: Simple to use, effective, relatively fast
Cons: It feels a little cheap as it's all just plastic but it does appear well made
I have used this repairer to fix about 7 blu-ray discs that were scratched... All were still playable before but would skip and lock up due to the number of scratches on them. I've used off the shelf repairers before and they didn't do much, this one actually seems to have fixed the discs... I played all 7 after running them through the process and they don't skip or lock up anymore... One still pixelates a bit when it comes to the point where it used to lock up the disc, but I can live with that since I don't want to pay another 100 bucks for the box set the disc came in... I'm happy with spending the money and it seems to have already paid for itself...

astonished - it worked!

Pros: It actually worked! Restored a DVD that I couldn't read at all, and brought it back to completely readable!
Supplies last approximately 50 times they're $3.33 (single price) very reasonable I think.
It's well build feels solid and has a tray to hold supplies.
Cons: Instructions are printed in a little booklet - they should be right on the cleaner so they won't get lost.
It's a bit noisy, but that's really not an issue - it only gets occasional use.
I'm giving it a '9' because I almost never give a '10' - although this might be a case where I should...
I rip our DVDs to a server so we can watch them on our media center - and so kids don't (mis-)handle them causing scratches like I just dealt with.
I had a DVD with a lot of little scratches, dirt, fingerprints, and one big half-inch gouge. I cleaned it with Dawn and water that took care of the dirt and fingerprints, but I couldn't even get part-way with ripping it.
I took a chance and ordered this "Disc Repairing and Cleaning Kit" when I ordered a bunch of other things.
I put the badly scratched DVD into the machine, and did all three processes: buffing, restoring, and cleaning.
Tried to rip it again - it got 98.6% of the way through! Pretty impressive considering I couldn't even get 5% before.
I went through all three processes again and the entire disk was readable. 100% readable.
Very impressive! I have to admit I'm amazed - I really didn't expect it to work. The gouge is still there, but it's been cleaned, buffed, whatevered and the DVD is completely readable again.
Highly recommended!

Great deal on a useful cleaner/repairer for DVD's
|
Pros: Great price and performance
Cons: None so far
Bought this as an item I occasionally wish I had and already used it twice. Both times it's worked flawlessly and turned bad discs into fully functional ones. Great deal!

It just works
|
Pros: Works well with many media types.
Low cost and pays for self in one use
Cons: Only uses AC/DC adapter. Wish it took batteries too.
I would recommend this product to friends.

Used on a Wii game that was scratched beyond scratched. Did the 3 steps twice and we are still playing the game. Best cleaner I have ever used and I have used a lot! Would recommend to anyone!

Pros: Inexpensive, effective

This little thing is great! My son had his Wii discs all scratched to the point of being unusuable. I ordered this, and figured I would at least try it before I threw them away. It worked great. Every one of them is playable now. I highly recommend this product.

Worth every penny
|
Pros: Price as usual is incomparable with other devices that fix disks.
Simple, easy to follow directions make using this device a breeze.
You simply cannot argue with the results. Out of 32 moderately to severely scratched disks, 31 were restored to fully functioning condition. The only disk that did not function after had very severe scratches.
Cons: I really don't have any complaints
This repair device has saved me much much more money than I paid for it. It worked on Wii, Xbox360, PS3, DVD, and Audio disks.
One suggestion to the user.
FOLLOW the directions! DO not use more solution than is recommended. This will only impede the process. I know it is human nature to think that more is better, however just follow the directions and you will be happy with the results.

Pros: If your renting and have kids in the house then this product is a must. Clean great and very compact.

Pros: It has repaired very deep scratches & allowed me to save hundreds of dollars (mostly XBOX360 games, some music, one photo album.
Cons: Taking the disc out of the cleaner is not as easy as it could be. It is not very difficult, but could be improved.

Swirl marks
|
Ran it through the steps 4 times with no difference. Left swirl marks from the pads that do not come off. Reluctant to try it on another disc.

Pros: Wonderful Product! It paid for itself the first disc that I repaired. It was a disc for the XBOX 360 that would not play in the machine. After the first round of the three step process the disc was placed in the XBOX and it played and has worked ever since! Anyone that has an XBOX or Playstation or CD player for that matter should own one of these disc repair systems. One thing to keep in mind make sure that you follow the directions and make sure that you only use ONE drop of the cleaning fluid for the correct color of pads that are being used. Don't interupt the unit until it has completed the cycle.
Cons: None!

Better than expected
|
Even after watching the helpful youtube video showing how to use the device, I was skeptical if it would actually work on a badly scratched disc and the 99% success rate smelled fishy to me. I was wrong. As it says in the documentation, it may take more than one pass, but this thing has worked on every one of the 20+ DVDs I've thrown at it so far, all of which needed more than just a quick cleaning. And a great price for such a helpful item. Don't know about the longevity, but at that price, I'd probably just buy another one.

I cleaned/repaired 12 discs for the Playstation 2. All of them repaired but 2. Well worth the money. Especially when you have kids.

Amazing Product
|
Pros: very easy to use and does an excellent job claeaning and removing scratches.
Cons: Wish they sold extra solution and pads
I had several DVD's and CD's that wold not play. I used this kit and it removed all of the scratches and I was able to use the discs again... Amazing!!!!!

I have cleaned 5 discs so far that all had skipping problems and they have all been fixed. Sometimes I needed to do a second pass on some discs. I recommend lightly cleaning the disc with a high quality lens cleaner and lens tissue or cloth first if it is dirty or the kids have covered it with various sorts of sticky mess as this cleaner does not seem to clean that type of dirt well. It does seem to do a good job on repairing scratches etc and you can't beat the price even if it rescues even one movie or game. Pretty easy to use (video directions are even available online) and it takes about 5 minutes or so to do a disc.

Very poor experience, so far

We have carefully followed the instructions on two separate discs, and found no improvement. So, we ran the repairing and cleaning cycles again multiple times, as recommended, and still found no improvementand very possibly, a degradation in performance.
The two discs we have tried so far are PS2 games. Previously, they both required us to try multiple times before they would play. Now, after running them through the repairing and cleaning process in this unit multiple times, they are both just a little worse than they were before.
I would like to see the case study where they found that this unit repairs 99% of all scratched discs.

Paid for itself in the first use but I only have a 25% success rate
|
The product itself it good quality and well packaged as most Monoprice products are. The video on youtube was helpful and I'm glad to see that Monoprice is using youtube as a resource. I had 4 discs with minor scratches and of those 4 I was only able to save 1. 2 others were being rejected by both computers and DVD players when I would put them in and this product did get one of the discs to the point where it would be recognized by computers as a DVD but it could not be played. I did repeat steps 1 and 2 five times but still no luck. In summary I am glad I bought this product and look forward to using it in the future.

|
My kids leave their discs out instead of putting them in cases. The machine is motorized and has fixed a few discs. I think there is one beyond repair though. It is good.

This product works great!!! Every scratched DVD or CD has come out of this machine and has worked flawlessly. Having young children and DVD's don't mix well together. This machine has fixed everything we have thrown at it. I would highly recommend this product.

It works, but not like magic
|
My son had a PS2 disc that was very damaged. I had to pass it 4 times the three step process before it works again. But it finally worked out. So, only for this disc, the buy worth it!
But I'm sure I'll have some other discs to "fix". Making it a good investment!
A few points :
- I'm wondering where to get refill or new polishing discs in the futur.
- The motor seems to work "hard", I hope it's sturdy enough.
- Built quality is fine, but might be better.
Highly recommended !

I just love this thing. It really works! Usually you get a product that is so cheap like this that is crap but this thing works like a charm. I resurfaced a few DVD's and Blu-Rays and they all are like new...

Excellent buy
|
This thing really works I've cleaned three DVDs that would get hung up at certain spots,
one had a huge scratch and would not play at all from that point ,It didn't remove the scratch completely but it plays now with out a hiccup. Of course these were all kid movies.

Seems Excellent So Far!

I've refinished two disks so far and this unit seems to be excellent!
I'm looking forward to seeing how it lasts in the long run, but it seems sturdy, has an ample supply of cleaning material, and is very compact!
