Best "Cheap" guitar for your money
|
Pros: Affordable Sounds like a higher end guitar Looks like a higher end guitar
Cons: Needed some setup out of the box New strings are a must Monoprice logo doesn't do this guitar justice
I've been a guitar play for almost a decade. I wasn't even looking for a new guitar, just browsing Monoprice for a new wall mount when I stumbled across these gems. I was skeptical at first, thinking you get what you pay for, but then I read the reviews, and they sold me on it. I ordered it the same day, and got it 5 days later. Now, out of the box, there are some things you will have to do, or at least I had to do. The strings are beyond bad, but Monoprice has adjusted this with their new modern line. They also say it is setup by a luthier, but I had to do a quick setup to remove the frett buzz, The tuners aren't the best either. Falls out of tune quicker than other guitars I've had, and it's harder to actually get into tune. All in all though, things I would consider "wrong" with this guitar are minor, and cheap fixes can be made. Whether it be new tuners, or getting your guitar professionally setup. These are all quick fixes that will make an already great sounding guitar that much better. I liked this one so much, I just purchased the Strat version and it should be here in a week. Whether you are a beginner and looking for a cheap guitar to get your feet wet, or you've always wanted that Les Paul look, without the Les Paul price, then this is the way to go. The only thing that would make this guitar that much better is if they had a better logo on the headstock.

Good student instrument
|
Pros: Very good build quality compared to others at this level I've seen in shops.
Cons: Tuners a little finiky. Minor touches make a big change A minor issue. Action set a little low for my ham handed playing style. I'll adjust it later.
I'm over 60 and not in any way a musician but I wanted an electric guitar to "play with" to entertain myself. I like the way this guitar feels and sounds. I had been banging on an old Yamaha acoustic for years but my hands have started to hurt due to living a life so I needed a little softer touch box. This is put together nicely and I would recommend it for a beginning or someone like me.

I'd buy it again...
|
Pros: Sounds good after some adjusting. Price.
Cons: Black and cream... I expected the color scheme to be black and white. Perhaps I should have read more into the "Vintage" part of the description. Some of the screws were too tight and starting to show some stress marks on the plastic pieces. Fret buzz out of the box, but a few turns on the included wrench took those out.
Playing as a hobby for 20 years. I'm very happy with this guitar after receiving it for a gift. I've been wanting a guitar with humbuckers for years, but couldn't bring myself to buy an authentic Gibson or spend $300+ on a knock off. This fit the bill beautifully. I'll be replacing the cream colored parts with black or silver.
I've been scared to fiddle with the inner workings of guitars in the past, but the cost of this one lends itself to first time guitar maintenance.
All in all a good buy for a casual player.

Mixed feeling
|
Pros: Price
Cons: slight blemish, packaging
I'm not a guitar expert or know how to play one but I'm buying this for my wife who does. It looks like the guitar has been handled, smudges here and there. There's a small chip on one of the fret on the side and the locking tuners (I had to look it up what it's called) looks kind of cheap and plasticy. The humbuckers cover also feels loose I'm not sure if it's suppose to be like that. I'll have to ask all of you or wait until my wife gets it to see if it's suppose to be that way. Also if I want to get an amp, are there special amps for guitars or any amp will do? I also bought her a mini headphone amp "clean" for her, but that hadn't come yet for some reason....maybe that's ups faults. And the packaging on this guitar seems sparse...I'd feel more comfortable if it was a little more padded.

Humbuckers Rock
|
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
I know nothing about electric guitars but I bought one anyway due to my wanting to learn to play. I ordered the Route 66 in black and I love it. Fit and finish is awesome. The sound coming from the guitar is fantastic. What convinced me most that I bought a great instrument was I showed it to a musician friend that plays electric guitar incredibly well. He looked it over and smiled and advised me that there is no way I paid less than $140 delivered. I advised him again that yes I did. He then proceeded to play my guitar for the next few hours beaming with joy the whole time. He then told me I got a steal on this fantastic guitar and then said he will be purchasing a few for himself this weekend.
I am so excited to have this guitar and to learn how to play it. What a wonderful instrument to learn on. Thanks monoprice for yet another "knock your socks off" product.

Pros: great guitar. love it. I used to own a Gibson Les Paul Deluxe. Bought it new in 1980.. This guitar brought back a lot of memories.
Cons: Wish they came in Wine color with Cream trim.. it would be just like my Deluxe..
This guitar is great right out of the shipping package. I received on Thursday.. Play it a little on Thursday night. Had two shows over the weekend.. Played my Tele the first set of each night and the Monoprice the rest of the night ( Both nights). Used the strings and setup right out of the box. Will be buying a second one for sure...

Pros: awesome!! excellant all around guitar road or recording!
Un- freekin-believable.. i've had everything from $5000 show pieces to $70 smashers.. and these thing rock.. yes-the strings suck .. who cares your gonna change them anyways. The set-ups are spot on. I bought both the tobacco sunburst and a glod top.. for the price how can you not? Truly amazing!! The pick-ups are great for any price and dont humm to death like you expect from the price point. In fact they sound REALLY good even at full gain through a HK triamp. I'm gonna drop a PRS HFS in the bridge and see what that sounds like. Get one(or two like I did) you'll be glad!!

Pros: Very well made and feels solid. Very well finished. Sounds good and playable right out of the box.
Cons: A little fret buzz but no big deal.
I was very surprised at how well made and solid feeling this guitar is. It does not feel anything like a cheap copy. I own many guitars and would not hesitate to buy another one.

It rocks
|
Pros: Feels great, the frets are smooth, no edges, stays tuned. All knobs, switch and components are solid, no hum/buzz, pickups are good. Compared against my Fender Tele, this guitar sounds just as good.
If your seriously looking to purchase your first guitar, this one is a hit.
Guitar was delivered on time, well packaged, no scratches.
Cons: Just a cosmetic thing, change the Monoprice on the head to some nice logo, and if need be in small print put Monoprice.
Factory setup is what is to be expected. If you have a particular feel than take it to your local guitar shop.
I rate this product high. Looking forward to purchasing another model soon. 9 out of 10

Route 66 Honey Burst
|
Pros: Beautiful finish, nice low action and great tone.
Cons: Some fret buzz with barr chords up around 12th fret, but was easily correct.
I love it, Iusually play a Fender Tele, but wanted to get a different sound for our little garage band. This was a perfect and inexpensive solution and like said it plays and sounds very good. I did take it in and had Gibson tunners and bone nut placed, also some 11's for strings, as I play mostly rhythm, this made an already good guitar, even better. Great value! I recommend this product without reservation.

Good Guitar
|
Pros: Looks great and set-up very well. Nice and low. Feel pretty solid and its DIRRRRT Cheap for a guitar. Haven't played it with any overdrive yet, but the clean sounds were nice and full.
Cons: Keep in mind...this guitar plays well beyond its price... but... The knobs are pretty tough to move, the neck feels a little plasticy (i'm being picky) and the color was different than the picture. The bottom part is more of a heritage burst (Brown) with the neck part being a straight black. Still looks great, just a little different than the pic. Still a great guitar...I will but another
I have purchased several items from monoprice over the last couple years. I have yet to ever get a faulty product or receive bad customer service. This is a great company!
Is this made in a cheap factory in China...probably, but who cares... It looks, feels, and sounds great. I look forward to the new hollowbodys. At this price, its worth it just to hang on the wall if nothing else.

Awesome guitar
|
Pros: This guitar is amazing. It is made very well for a Low price guitar. It was pretty much in tune when I got it, and it is beautiful. I have 52 guitars in my collection from $300 to $8500 and I have to say these really give them a run for the money. If you want a guitar you will be proud of and not blow the bank, what are you waiting for.
Cons: I'd like to see them come in some more colors. Like red, quilted, blue.
This is the third guitar I bought from monoprice. The other two are strats and they are amazing also. If you have a person who is starting out playing or a "old Dog" like myself. get one of these and start jamming. I don't know how monoprice can do what they do for the low cost.

Another winner for Monoprice
|
Pros: Beautiful Guitar(Finish)not a bad spot nowhere on the guitar, Quality build, parts and sound. These guitars have it all, I have some very expensive guitars and equipment and this guitar is no slouch or sacrifice to any of my other instruments. Beautiful craftsmanship. Basswood sounds brillent with great tones and undertones. Maple Neck with Rosewood Fretboard and outstanding fret work. Vintage look.
Cons: Strings are not the best and I will replace the Nut with a Tusq®. Included pick sucks.
Beautiful guitar, plays just like a vintage LP Deluxe, very fast action with precision intonation all over the fretboard, stays in tune. Neck feels good as does all the hardware, sounds like a full priced Gi*S^N LP after putting some Light GHS Boomers on it. Parts all seam to be interchangeable with a LP Deluxe. If you are looking for a good playing guitar then you have found it right here on MonoPrice this is a outstanding piece of musical equipment and by the way the neck feels fantastic and has blazing fast action right out of the box without not even the slightest fret buzz (Thanks, Roger Gresco) who would have thought all this for under $130, for all you skeptics out there who feel you have to pay a small fortune for a great sounding quality built instrument you might better rethink this one and give it a shot you won't be sorry. How are you doing this MonoPrice? Who are you getting to build these guitars? they a top notch. By the way I bought this "Route 66" and the "California Classic" and both are equally as good in their own distinctive ways. For those of you on the fence come on over you will not regret this purchase, if you can't tell I am mind boggled in how in the world MonoPrice can produce, sell and make a profit on such a nice guitar, this is no el cheapo like you find on auction sites and pawn shops trust me I know.

Blown away!!
|
Pros: Body and Hardware - everything is beautiful, from bridge to tuning pegs, guitar was practically in tune when it arrived! (after trip from CA to MA)
Sound - Plugged into a VOX/Squire/Peavey combo amps, it sounds like a $2000 Les Paul
Cons: So far I have nothing to complain about, of course it needs new strings but otherwise I have nothing to complain about...maybe the price it TOO LOW! :)
I am a long time guitar player, been playing a Fender Ultra Strat for many years now. I have dreamed of owning a Gibson Les Paul but after a wife and 3 kids its remained a dream, till today. I have gone to the Guitar Center and played the expensive high end Les Pauls, this guitar looks, feels and sounds no different. I am a guy living from check to check, spending even $100 is a big deal to me, I can honestly say this was money well spent and I have ZERO regrets. As I write this my step son who also plays (and has nearly surpassed me in skill) is jammin in the basement with it. Thank you Monoprice and expect my nest order when my paycheck arrives this week! Only question is, which color I want next.

Great starter guitar!
|
Pros: Good quality components, and set up well — it's obvious this guitar was looked at and set up before sending out to ship!
Cons: Strings a bit iffy, pick should be discarded
Although I've played keyboard for decades, I've wanted to dive into the world of guitars. For almost a year, I've been getting recommendations from my guitar playing friends on a starter guitar. They all warned me that I needed to spend upwards of $400, or I'd get discouraged and quit playing. That's when I became immediately curious when Monoprice started carrying guitars. To be honest, at the price posted, I was quite leery of what I'd be getting.
Fortunately, Monoprice had a booth at the NAMM show, and I was with my guitarist friend there. After chatting with you all (definitely the friendliest bunch at the whole show, BTW!), we noticed you had your guitars on display. I asked my friend to try out this guitar. He picked it up, started playing, and was very surprised at how well it played. He had no problems playing up and beyond the 12th fret — the intonation was solid, action nice and low, and the tone was very good. His opinion was that it should sell for at least 3X the price. That sold me, and as soon as these became available, I ordered one.
I thought that perhaps Monoprice had spent an inordinate amount of time setting up their display guitars, and grabbed the pick of the litter to show, but low and behold, this one came to me playing just as well right out of the box. As someone who knows nothing about guitars, it's great to have a guitar delivered that's already pretty well set up to play. I'm looking forward to learning guitar, and don't think I'm going to outgrow my solid body any time soon.

Great Value!!!
|
Pros: solid build, decent pickups, great Starter guitar. price!
Cons: Guitar nut, but i expected that on guitars of this price.
monoprice? guitars? Yup, if your thinking of getting one, get one! They seem to be selling out quick and the reason is because for about 145 bucks shipped they are easily the best guitar value out there! period! I ordered mine and get it the next day, once out of the box i started playing it and the guitar seemed to be setup pretty damn good right out of the box. Obviously, replace the strings and your set! The only thing i would do to this guitar is replace the guitar nut so it would stay in tune better and longer.

Great guitar for $130
|
Pros: value finish sound
Cons: setup - easily fixed
you want new strings ready to put on when it arrives nice translucent stain on the back be prepared to tweak it a little I started a long review of this and accidentally hit the back button and lost it. I whole heatredly recommend this guitar as a cheap LP knock off. Like another reviewer said this is at least a $300 guitar.

Monoprice Does It Again
|
Pros: -Best guitar for the money possible -Humbuckers for a steal -Very Solid
Cons: Some of the tuning machines seem a little loose, but that could just be from banging around in checked luggage on the flight back
So, at CES 2012, I wandered over to the Monoprice booth, little expecting that they would come out with a guitar. I saw the black route66, and got to play it a bit. It feels like a 300 dollar instrument, and I actually saw one that looked exactly alike being sold by Pyle audio for 280

Great Guitar... and I have been playing for 20 years(+)
|
Pros: Value is unbeleivable, price is unreal (i don't even get how Monoprice can do it), the tones are fantastic... and I mean fantastic. The finish and build quality is exceptional. I could go on and on.
Cons: none
so i bought this guitar becasue I am a fan of Monoprice, I happen to play guitarm and... i do buy my 1/4 inch and xlr cables from Monoprice. as I mentioned in the pro's section, the value is unbeleivable, price is unreal (i don't even get how Monoprice can do it), the tones are fantastic... and I mean fantastic. The finish and build quality is exceptional. I literally forgot while I was playing that this guitar was a $129... it feels like and plays like a $650 guitar, no joke. When you play it, you willget what I am saying. Absolutely stunning how Monoprice does this.... another nice product!

A toy not worth it.
|
Pros: NONE
Cons: You would buy this guitar at Cosco with an amp for the same price. The shipping packaging is very cheap. Broken pieces. The Sound is cheap The size is smaller than normal
Do not buy it, even if it is your first electric guitar.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
My apologies for the trouble you had with the guitar and dissatisfaction. If you like I can issue an RMA for a return, I would just need an order number to get the process started. Again my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Sincerely
Tjayi Malone Tech Support
by JPL Here under my revised comments:
Pros: Nice Looking
Cons: Shipping is expensive. Packaging is cheap. Two broken pieces. This guitar is a copy of an Epiphone Les Paul. The frets are too big, so the E and A cords touch the lower frets even with a gentle picking. The image on the Web does not show the pickprotector. The last, but not he least: this guitar is very difficult to tune.
It's a do not buy it, even if it is your first electric guitar.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello JPL,
Sorry for any delay, I am replying on behalf of Tjayi Malone. A shame it didn't work for your needs.. Now if you haven't done so already, I can help setup an RMA for a return. If you would like me to proceed with the RMA, all I would need is the order # this guitar is under. Sorry again for the trouble and thanks in advance!
Regards, Jonathan Arteaga Tech Support Associate ------------------------------------------------------------------
by Monoprice Administrator Hello JPL,
We'd also like to mention that temperature & humidity affects the straightness & curvature of the neck. This guitar went from China to California where it (including the neck) was setup to proper specification. Then the guitar was then sent to Canada in January where it’s probably very cold. All guitars will adjust in a new climate. This will cause the wood to contract, which will have an effect on the straightness of the neck.
After a few days of household warmth, the guitar’s wood should expand again. We also include a neck-adjusting truss-rod so customers can make adjustments. Again, we do apologize for the issues you've experienced with your order (broken pieces) and should you decide to try a replacement, we're certain you will be happy with the guitar.
Regards, Jonathan Arteaga Tech Support Associate ------------------------------------------------------------------
by JPL This is OK.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello JPL,
Great! Now to get this process started, all I would need is the order # this guitar is under. Should be a 7 digit number. Sorry again for the trouble and thanks in advance!
