Good BUT
|
Pros: Price and Quality
Cons: Setup - nut slots cut way to deep.
Overal for the price a great guitar - BUT. Out of the box it was unplayable. Severe string buzz on the EAD strings for the first 2 or 3 frets. The slots in the nut were cut way to deep leaving almost no space between the strings and the frets. The only solution is to try and fill the slot to get the EAD strings higher or to replace the nut. So at this point not playable. Leaning toward replacing the nut. Even though there was a certificate stating the guitar had been properly setup - I don't know how they could have missed the EAD strings being to low. Low action can be a good thing, but not when you can't even fret the first 3 strings on the first 3 frets without buzz.

Received my Sunburst California Classic on April 12, 2013
|
Pros: The neck looks and feel incredible. Shockingly good playability. Fret work is really good. Fit an finish is outstanding. Light weight. Sounds fantastic!
Cons: It feels like it shipped with 9 gauge strings. I'll be replacing them with 10 gauge ASAP.
To be honest, I'm shocked at how nice this guitar is. I was prepared to say she is really good for what I paid after reading other reviews but it goes far beyond that in reality. This is one heck of a fantastic guitar. I don't know if I just got lucky but wow! The action is actually a bit too low yet there is nearly zero buzz anywhere on the neck. I have an apt for a pro setup from my local guitar tech next week to get everything perfectly dialed in and adjust the nut for 10 gauge strings (again, I "think" it came with 9's based on feel) but there isn't going to be much the tech will have to do to this guitar. She even stays in tune somewhat well but I will probably install locking tuners on this REALLY nice guitar anyway because she is worth upgrading without a doubt! As for the pickups and electronics, I haven't looked inside the cavity yet but I'm totally satisfied with how she sounds right now and I'm a guitar and amp snob who has a lot of very nice equipment. I'm even considering adding the Jonesyblues Trinity Strat Blender wiring to the guitar because this guitar is worth it! Well done Monoprice!

Pros: all props, unbelievable!!
Cons: N/A
Un- freekin-believable.. i've had everything from $5000 show pieces to $70 smashers.. and these thing rock.. yes-the strings suck .. who cares your gonna change them anyways. The set-ups are spot on. I bought both the tobacco sunburst and a glod top.. for the price how can you not? Truly amazing!! The pick-ups are great for any price and dont humm to death like you expect from the price point. In fact they sound REALLY good even at full gain through a HK triamp. I'm gonna drop a PRS HFS in the bridge and see what that sounds like. Get one(or two like I did) you'll be glad!!

Buy one quickly before they sell out again
|
Pros: Beautiful finish (seriously must be seen to be believed) - it was flawless out of the cardboard box with colours much richer than I expected. Nice size and weight, I can see a great guitarist just grinding and wailing making this guitar sing. It really has inspired me to play much better and is a joy to work with. Kudos to Monoprice with their excellent customer service, amazing value and ultra quick delivery (3 days to make it to Canada duty and all).
Cons: I may not live up to the quality of this guitar - but with this great axe, I can sure feel and sound much better than I might with another guitar.
I'm no pro guitar player and I have never played a Strat before so I cannot compare it to other great strats as some of the users have mentioned but I can honestly tell you what I thought of the guitar since I have been playing it and I truly love this thing. I always wondered as a kid growing up in the 70s why so many guitarists had this guitar (Randy Bachman's yellow Strat as never forgotten) - - well, I think I know why. This guitar just fits perfectly on my lap - plays so well and just feels right. I have small hands and fingers and this guitar fits perfectly, feels great and plays so smoothly.
I don't own a lot of expensive guitars, in fact, I may be the prince of cheap guitars, (Greco Les Paul, Washburn Delta King and an Ibanez Gio bass) and this guitar seems to outshine all of them - though the little Gio is really fun to play). It has a solid neck and really feels well made, there is nothing that smacks cheap about this guitar - and yet, it only cost me $89. I bought a Vintage Route 66 Sun burst Les Paul for my nephew at the same time and am so excited I want to crack it open as well. I can't wait to see his face when he opens it.
If you are debating if it is worth buying this guitar as it must be cheap, believe all of the reviews - - this is an amazing value for the money. Also buy it quickly as I have noticed Monoprice can't keep them in stock. As a first guitar for a friend or family member or for a small treat for your self, either you will be exceptionally please with this high quality under valued guitar. I can't wait to see what other guitars Monoprice may bring out next.

Impressive
|
Pros: Solid construction, good tone, better than average playability
Cons: Noisy pickups, a little thin, stock strings are cheap
Others have stated, how can they do this for $90? I agree with the sentiment, hard to imagine this quality for under $100. I honestly could imagine this guitar at $250 or more. The pickups sound decent if a bit thin but you can find a cheap used Lce Sensor or similar for $30-40. Strings need replacing immediately and have a decent pick before you play, the pick it comes with is a throw-away (it grabs the string and is not playable).
You can't go wrong here.

Pros: I love this guitar. Classic styling and really solid. Still can't believe the quality level at such a great price.
Cons: Need to change out the strings and reset a few things. Low E is a bit jangly and seems to slip out of tune pretty easily.
Overall, great purchase. Feels great in my hands and looks stellar on the wall.

California Classic Guitar
|
Pros: Price is unmatched for this quality. Sound is great for my application. Paint color and application is excellent. Plays a lot better than expected.
I never write reviews, but today I feel compelled. I am very happy with this guitar purchase. The quality of construction and the paint is perfect. You could spend hundreds of dollars more for a guitar that does not match this quality. Nice touch with the inclosed certificate of personal care. I will buy more of these just to have around the house.

Get One
|
Pros: For the most part everything was great out of the box.
Cons: Strings needed to be changed.
Now I'm not a great guitar player but I have played a few Fenders and this feels and acts like a $400-600 Fender. I'm not sure who Monoprice sold their soul to but it was worth it and Thank You!!! I did change the strings on it, which I always do. If you're looking for a well built guitar or you're wanting to learn to play and don't want to spend the money this the way to go!!!
Once again Thank You
PS. I'm thinking about getting a Route 66 model as well .

My third purchase
|
Pros: This guitar is every bit as perfect as the other two I bought. Beautiful white finish and is set up better than my high dollar guitars. I am sold on monoprice guitars and intend on getting more of them for my grandkids.
Cons: None in my book. I'd like to see monoprice come out with hardshell cases for these guitars. I like my guitars in a nice case and sometimes the case will cost as much as the guitar or more. All 52 of guitars I have are in hard cases even these monoprice babies.
If you been holding off on buying a guitar, don't look no more, cause these are top of the line for the money. You can buy a Squire, AS, Xaviere or other low end guitar, and it won't be as sweet as these already set-up for you so you can start playing now.

MonoPrice has a winner
|
Pros: Beautiful Guitar(Finish)not a bad spot nowhere on the guitar, Quality build, parts and sound. These guitars have it all, I have some very expensive guitars and equipment and this guitar is no slouch or sacrifice to any of my other instruments. Beautiful craftsmanship. Basswood sounds brillent with great tones and undertones. Maple Neck and Rosewood Fretboard. Triple pick-guard
Cons: Strings are not the best and I will replace the Nut with a Tusq®. Included pick sucks
Beautiful guitar, plays as good as any strat I have ever picked up, very fast action with precision intonation all over the fretboard, stays in tune after playing hours of heavy hammering on the guitar. Neck feels good as does all the hardware, sounds like a full priced strat after putting some DR 10's on the guitar. Every part I have looked up from a strat MIM will fit on this guitar, Hmmmm? If you are looking for a good playing guitar then you have found it right here on MonoPrice this is a outstanding piece of musical equipment and by the way the neck feels fantastic and has blazing fast action right out of the box without not even the slightest fret buzz (Thanks, Roger Gresco) who would have thought all this for under $90, for all you skeptics out there who feel you have to pay a small fortune for a great sounding quality built instrument you might better rethink this one and give it a shot you won't be sorry. How are you doing this MonoPrice? Who are you getting to build these guitars? they a top notch. By the way I bought this "California Classic" and the "Route 66" and both are equally as good in their own distinctive ways. For those of you on the fence come on over you will not regret this purchase, if you can't tell I am mind boggled in how in the world MonoPrice can produce, sell and make a profit on such a nice guitar this is no el cheapo like you find on auction sites and pawn shops trust me I know.

Pros: What a wonderful surprise when I received this guitar. I thought I was playing a high dollar Fender USA Strat. The workmanship and overall playability was excellent. The finish on this guitar was beautiful like my $700 strat. I have over 50 guitars from $100 up to $9000 and I was very curious on what I would receive from Monoprice. Exremely happy with the results.
Cons: The only thing I did, was change the strings. The low E string had a kink in it causing a buzz on the 10th fret. I replaced them with a set of DR neons in yellow. This made the look really pop.
I was expermenting with this purchase. If this guitar was what I thought great, I would next purchase the Les Paul style guitar you have when it comes back into stock. I may try different colors of both models. I have alot of grandchildren looking to learn guitar, and these are one of the best deals for the buck. Don't know how you do it Monoprice. But, keep it up, you sold me

This guitar is unbelievable!!
|
Pros: - Price is unreal - Build Quality is exceptional - Play Quality was so much better than expected, exceeded expectations - Suprisingly, this guitar has a really great tone - Exceptional value
Cons: - Absolutely None!! - Strings are a bit thin for the avg or moderate player, but perfect for the beginner player. So expect to put thicker guage strings on this guitar and you will be flying in the clouds!
I cannot beleive the build quality and the play qulaity that this guitar has for $89, it doesnt even seem possible! It plays equel to a $400 epiphone guitar or better! I am asstonished. I have no idea how Monoprice does it, but they do. If you are looking for a really, really nice guitar that anywhere else would be valued in the $350-$450 range, then buy this strat-like guitar that Monoprice offers. Also, on a side note, it also comes pre-setup which is huge. I cannot beleive they would pu tthe effort or $$ into a $89.00 guitar. It even comes with a certificate of authenticity saying my guitar was personally set up by Roger Gresco! Awesome, thanks Monoprice!
