Pros: - Very responsive and great to type on. Best keyboard I have typed on to date. - Great feature set (USB Hub, Mic/Headphone port, Macros). While not having extra useless flashy features you often times find on premium keyboards. - Liked how media keys were done (Fn + F[1-6]). They still left easy access to them, while not having the normally subpar dedicated buttons for them. - Nice compact size. No wasted space on top and sides, that just takes up room on the desk.
Cons: Just a few minor nitpicks, but nothing major. - Wished back lighting was blue instead of red - Slightly unintuitive. Wasn't obvious that I had to hit Fn+Numpad 8 to turn on the back light.
Would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a premium mechanical keyboard.

Suggestion
|
Pros: Not owned
Cons: Not owned
Hello Monoprice,
If you build this keyboard with memory keys running down the left side of the keyboard I will be happy to spend $100 on it. It seems to have all the other criteria a gamer would want, but without those assignable memory keys on the left side it is a no sale, or it is a $65 keyboard. I hope you appreciate my advise.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Atka59,
Thank you for your input, we certainly appreciate the feedback :) I will be sure to pass this along to my supervisor for further consideration. Now should you have further questions, feel free to contact us. Thanks for your support!

Great Keyboard!
|
Pros: Great texture to the keys and keyboard SOLID! Feels really well built Adjustable backlighting 2 HDMI ports, and accs ports on keyboard
Cons: None!
Really love this keyboard! Typing on it feels great with lots of feedback with audible clicks just feels and sounds great!
I play alot of Starcraft 2 (at night) and the backlighting REALLY REALLY helps out for those times you lift your hands and lose your placement its real easy to get back into position. I would HIGHLY recommend this keyboard

Best keyboard I've used by far
|
Pros: - Backlight is really strong and can be adjusted via the FN key - Media controls are pretty good - Comes with a set of four orange keycaps to replace whatever keys you'd like (I did the arrows) - Solid construction with a really nice matte finish - Red Cherry keyswitches are super-satisfying to type on and great for gaming - Very responsive - The palm rest was a lot nicer than I thought it'd be - N-key rollover is one of my favorite features in any keyboard, ever - USB access on the keyboard is icing on the cake
Cons: - Left CTRL key would stick when depressed, but I just switched the two CTRL keys around and I fixed my problem immediately - You can instantly tell when the palm rest is dirty
This is probably the best keyboard I have ever owned aside from my old-school IBM Model M keyboard. I own a Filco Majestouch NKRO with brown switches and, while I absolutely love that keyboard, this keyboard pretty much destroys it in every category. I am actually considering selling that keyboard just to purchase another one of these. It is absolutely amazing for touch typing (it's much faster and "feels" more accurate than the Filco keyboard I was using before) and is a joy to both type on and game on. I would sincerely recommend this keyboard to anyone who is interested in picking up a good, solid mechanical keyboard for gaming or for typing at work.
Did I mention that the little USB hub on it is fantastic? Well, it is. I don't use the headphone or microphone adapters on it, but I honestly don't think I'll ever find a need to.

Pros: Tactile feedback is excellent. Not as loud as I expected it to be. Key leds look sweet!
Cons: I can manually increase/decrease the key led brightness but where is that setting to make the key led brightness go from min to max on its own?? None of the documentation explains that and tech support just said this keyboard doesn't support this feature even though it's definitely part of the production description. Please help!
Keyboard is fantastic! The only complaint is the 1 issue below.

by Anonymous Thanks to Khalid S on tech support. Just set it to the highest brightness setting FN+8 a few times, wait a couple seconds and you should see the leds breathe.

Works well with Mac
|
Pros: Works with Mac
Great adjustable backlighting Tactile keys, requires very little force to actuate keys, takes a bit of experimenting and experience to fully utilize this. Works on OSX. Make sure you hit FN+F12 to disable the 'GAMING MODE', which by design disables the windows key since gamers will sometimes hit that when playing by accident, minimizing their game. If you want to make the left alt work as the command key on a mac, just use the software 'DoubleCommand'
http://doublecommand.sourceforge.net/
I installed it on 10.8.2, ran it, clicked 'option key acts as command key', clicked activate, saved for 'system' and done.

Good functioning Keyboard
|
Pros: soft keys, good finishing and quality looks good
Cons: the extra bar that comes beneath the keyboard when assembling it has a teeennyyy gap. but doesn't take away the whole experience
Functions good so far, installation was easy, convenient for extra USBs and head jack like it says. Just got this today, so i'll be seeing how durable it is. First time ordering from Monoprice. So far it's been a good service and product quality.

Great Gaming and Everyday Keyboard
|
Pros: Backlighting with 3 brightness levels and an off level. Red lights look nice in the dark. Cherry MX Reds are great for FPS games, much better than rubber domes Plenty of media ports Keys and the palm rest feel good. Getting a replacement for a broken palm rest was a breeze.
Cons: Cheap palm rest, broke when attaching it. On the replacement I was sent, it didn't break.
Function keys are sharing the same keys as the windows macro keys. This does keep the size of the keyboard down, but it can be inconvenient.
Not exactly a con, but bottoming out the keys is moderately audible. Microphone adjustments are necessary if you have a sensitive microphone like me. It isn't annoying to me when typing, but it can be heard in audio recordings.
I got the keyboard replaced, which was a very easy process. I attached the palm rest no problem. Great keyboard, great customer service. Once you use this keyboard for a week, you won't be able to go back to rubber domes. I would highly recommend this keyboard to any gamer.

Noise Keyboard. Unusual keycap font
|
Pros: Great backlight, Has some weight to it (doesn’t slide around the desk).
Cons: The key click is OK but the keys themselves are very noisy (plastik hitting plastic when the key is depresed. Also the font that is used on the key caps is not the normal (standerd) font used on every other keyboard I'v ever used in the past (it looks like they used a MICR font).
All in all this is a good keyboard. However if I had it to do over again I would not buy it.

You will never find a 10/10 keyboard for this price anywhere else!!
|
Pros: There is a lot that can be said about this specific keyboard. I will try to sum it up as quickly and as effectively as possible, in the clearest of words.
On the macro level- the overall feel of the keyboard is quality. It feels solid- meaning not cheap. If you were to pick up the demo keyboards at a department store and then pick this keyboard up, then you would feel a clear difference in the sturdiness, above all else. There is no bend or give- you do not feel the inherent need to be careful with the thing after you pick it up.
The keys are engraved clearly and thus the lighting looks great. I cannot say how many keyboards I have seen where the keys are of poor quality in some way. If it is hard for a company to get the main portion of their product "right," then they probably do not deserve your money.
Key presses are clear and loud, but not TOO loud. Key registers are not very demanding. It brings a dramatic reduction to those annoying moments where you barely tap a key, it doesn't register, and you die in a game or have to delete a bunch of words. Of course there is another side to this fact as well- though I feel that slight key presses are far more common than accidental. (At least it is that way with myself)
As stated- the lighting looks great because the keys are done "right." The line on the space bar is a nice touch and sleek in appearance. The lighting is also great because it was done efficiently. Let's not ignore that. Each key has a dedicated LED. There are a range of lighting modes. You just need to find what suits you the best.
I do my macros separately, so I cannot speak as to how well that will work- at least at this moment. Checking the additional ports on the keyboard at the last moment- they all work.
Cons: First off- this is not a con. I understood what I was buying, and I am not claiming that there were any lies in the product specs/description.
It would be nice to see this keyboard in red AND green and blue. Red worked out for me, due to my other things, particularly my Naga, being red. BUT I can imagine there being some people who would like green or blue...
Dedicated media keys, volume keys, and assignable keys would be a nice addition. I have seen a couple people list the lack of media/volume keys as a con. I know that I, certainly, tend to stretch out one arm, not two, to hit these keys when watching video. There is a clear and obvious work around, that I have already done, though it would be nice If I didn't have to assign keys, that already have a function, to a different function, when I am relaxing, and could possibly need to use the key.
Overall- no false advertising. What you see is what you get, and if you read what I wrote you should get a pretty good idea of what the thing is like, and what it is like is one of the best keyboards around, period. 10/10.
In my subjectivity land- I would like to see dedicated media keys on a keyboard like this in the future. Also, I would like to have a choice of the color of the lighting. 9/10.

Pros: Great layout (for me), USB ports, great feel, backlit
Cons: No USB 3.0 (not sure any keyboards are there yet?), no media keys
Keyboards (and mice) are about the most subjective PC parts. I know that I wanted a reasonably clicky feel (not necessarily sound), backlighting, and a sensible key layout. I tried a Razer mechanical which had two deal-breakers: awful "hi-tek" font, and macro keys that I kept accidentally pressing, since they were too close to the other keys. This keyboard has neither of those failings, and the USB ports are icing on the cake. This keyboard is solidly constructed, and monoprice continues (for me) to be a sleeper of an online retailer: great products, prices, shipping.

MX Cherry Red switches with Red LED Mechanical Keyboard
|
Pros: I really !*&$king love these red keys. Here are some very notable things… The keys are really not that loud compared to some other mechanicals I've seen. And uh what the !*&$, these keys are floating around in colors (intensity of brightness), this would be perfect on my desk while I’m mixing and or for any !*&$ing reason. I can strobe the LEDs in my keyboard. It’s also very compact and feels amazing. Overall the construction and quality are supreme, I would highly recoomend
Cons: Not personally a fan of loud mechanical switches, although these are notably quiter than most mechanicals I've heard (Das keyboard)
Excellent keyboard for the price

Mechanical keyboard
|
Pros: -Mechanical switches -4 different light settings: low, medium, high, off -Programmable keys
Cons: -Short distance between keys -Wrist rest is too close to the keyboard
I've had experiences with several gaming keyboards. This keyboard feels as if it were meant for someone with smaller hands.
I am 5'10 170 pounds with a little larger than average sized hands but the distance between the keys seems much shorter than any keyboard I have ever used. It almost makes it uncomfortable for me.
I actually type slower on this keyboard because many times I hit two keys with one stroke because I anticipate the distance to be greater than it truly is.
Also, the wrist pad is not long enough latitudinally so it only holds up enough of my hand so that my wrist touches the desk.
This leads me to conclude this keyboard was made for someone with average or smaller than average hands, leaning to the smaller than average. This is a trend i've noticed in Monoprice's products such as their computer mice. I would not recommend this product for a large handed individual.

Monoprice Mechanical Gaming Keyboard at InfoComm
|
A quick close up, tactile look at the new mechnical gaming keyboards from Monoprice at Infocomm 2012. These feature the high quality cherry MX red key switches along with a USB hub, analog headset connections, and macro programming capability. The keyboard had a solid feel plus the cable has a heavy duty fabric sheath. Thus, it should be able to stand up to a decent amount of wear & tear/abuse. If you tend to rage on your keyboard, this might be the right product for you.

Pros: Great tactile feel Red backlight looks nice
Cons: Documentation is a little on the light side, but I was able to get everything figured out.
To Brad from Las Vegas: your Windows key doesn't work because you're not in "PC" mode. If you press FN+F12 you'll see the "G" indicator in the upper right corner of the keyboard go dark. Then your Windows key will work.
Love this keyboard. (Haven't tried the macro functions yet.)

Nice, except Windows key doesn't appear to work
|
Pros: Love the tactile feel of the keyboard. Illuminated keys that are adjustable. Mike and headphone ports work great for my set up.
Cons: Windows Key doesn't seem to do anything. Included Macro software doesn't seem to have accurate timekeeping and limited number of keystrokes.
When using the keyboard Macro setup I entered 6,500 millisecond between keystrokes and they ended up being more like 500 milliseconds. Why limit us to 6,500 milliseconds especially when its not really 6,500 milliseconds?
Also Windows key does not work on my setup with Windows 7, 64 bit. Anyone enlighten me on this? I've never had a windows key not work on my computer. and I like to use the windows key to quickly size windows.

Great Keyboard
|
Pros: INCREDIBLE Build Quality Audio / Mic Jacks + 2 USB Backlit keys
Cons: Occasionally when putting computer to sleep, the keyboard does not power off (the lights remain on). This may be a driver issue - I don't have an optical drive so I never installed the CD software suite - also couldn't find a digital copy online...
FN key is annoying for volume control. Should have dedicated volume buttons.
The first day of owning this keyboard, I spilled a HUGE glass of pop on it... 50% of the keys were soaked and VERY sticky...
I used alcohol and cue tips to clean and the board's been working fine since. The keyboard has VERY good build quality, but is quite sensitive to spills...
The only complaint I have with the keyboard is the Function (FN) key being placed on the right hand side... Every other computer / keyboard I've ever had with the FN key has placed it on the left side. This is annoying because the volume controls are NOT dedicated. You must press FN on the right side then the volume keys on the left... Requires 2 hands.
I love this keyboard and recommend it to anyone. It's solid and I feel like it will last a very long time.

Not a gamer, but I am still in love with this keyboard.
|
Pros: Precision "snick, snick, snick" of the keys as I type this. -just awesome. Looks great. Fairly heavy (does not slide) USB, mic / headphone jacks are just fine. Nice braided cord. Multiple levels of backlighting / plus groovy pulsing.
Cons: -Function key on the right makes volume changes a two handed operation. -Would be nice if the color of the back lighting could be adjusted. -Disc that came with the keyboard was defective, so I had no way of installing any drivers / macro tools - but I would probably stick with AutoHotKey anyway. Unfortunately I could not just D/L the drivers or tools to see what they offered, but no big deal. Not worth my time to deal with shipping me a new keyboard to swap (although Monoprice was more than willing to do this.) -Costs about $93.00 more than any other keyboard I've ever owned.
The finest keyboard I have ever owned by far. Such a joy to use, I want to find excuses to work from home, just so I can type on it. Heck, the only reason I'm writing this review is that this thing is such satisfying beast. Feels like the Atari 800XL fresh out of the box 25 years ago. Each keypress is like a miniature ginsu modded guillotine putting a swift and precise end to the mushy typographic quagmire i we've grown accustomed to.

not a Leopold
|
Pros: backlit, macro toggle key, 4 brightness settings
Cons: mechanical keys
I was hoping for something with a similar feel to my Leopold with red switches, but its quite different. The first thing I noticed were the the key caps feel off like they are a slightly different shape than a normal key. Not a deal breaker, but it takes some getting used to. The second thing I noticed was a graininess when pressing the keys. In comparison the Leopold is completely smooth and has basically zero resistance when pressing the keys. It's not a huge deal but it leaves room for improvement.
Overall its a very good value for this type of keyboard.

Pros: Great build quality Backlit keys Great price for a mechanical keyboard
Cons: Audio jacks and usb at the top Intermittent problems with backspace key
So far this keyboard has been amazing and as always monoprice comes through with great products. The only problems I have is that the audio jacks and usb ports are at the top which are just inconvenient, at least for me. I would have preferred them at the side or on the bottom. And another problem that I have is that the backspace key stops working at random times, which is incredibly annoying since I have to disconnect the keyboard and reconnect it. Other than those minor problems, this keyboard is great especially at this price.

Amazing!! Grade A+ Keyboard
|
Pros: Cheapest Backlit Mechanical Keyboard in the market. (97$ EPICWIN coupoun) Full Keyboard, Red Cherry Switch Excellent Build Quality, (is Monoprice common...) Audio Jacks, and USB ports
Cons: Not dynamic LED for multiple colors spectrum.
Excellent Keyboard, I'm writting this review on the keyboard right now. It has excellent build quality. The Baclit is amazing in daylight it is still visible, key are fast and responsive. Given that they use the red cherry mechanical switch keys are very lightweight. I'm playing BF3 and other FPS and RTS on the keyboard right now, it looks amazing with my gaming setup. Buy it when it is on stock, I usuallly don't write reviews but it feels that as a customer I did have the responsability to let you know how good this keyboard is, soon I will upload a youtube video of it so you can see.

Very impressive keyboard
|
Pros: Tactile key feel is awesome. Really nice touch to include replacement keys and a key removal tool Backlighting is very nice.
Cons: Miss the volume and dimmer "wheel" of the MS Sidewinder gaming keyboards In a day of USB headsets the mic/headphone jacks aren't really necessary Volume/media player controls don't have their own buttons, instead have a Fn + key press.
I've been looking for a mechanical keyboard that reminds me of the good old days of computing like in the 80s. These keyboard are very hard to come by, are expensive and usually do not have the same functionality that modern keyboards have. When monoprice released their own gaming keyboard, I was sold instantly. This item was shipped UPS ground from CA to the east coast, so it took a little longer (I'm used to Monoprice shipping everything priority) but with the release discount, I'll let it slide ).
Anyway, this keyboard does not disappoint. There are a couple "bummers" but not "game breakers". First off, the keyboard is awesome and replacates old school keyboarding. I love it. It is exactly what I was looking for. The red backlighting is perfect as well. It looks great. It is very reminiscient of the Microsoft Sidewinder gaming keyboards which is one of my favorites.
The USB cable is very long so it should connect to your PC rather than a hub. In order to pass through the audio headsets/mic, you'll also be plugging those into the back of your PC. You kinda sorta have to do this as there is no way not to have those cables dangling if you don't. I understand the convenience of doing this but since most if not all headsets are USB now, this seems to be like adding a AM radio to a Ferrari.
All of your regular keys are there, with an addition of an "Fn" key that you might see on a laptop. The Fn key gives all of your keys an additional mapping function. The F1-F12 keys, when pressed with the Fn key, adjust volume, mute it and alter the backlit brightness. I do prefer the one touch mute / volume control of the MS Sidewinder keyboard but I'll live.
One of my complaints with the MS keyboard is that the N and M keys wear out over time...so now it's just a bright light rather than a "M" key. I'm hoping that this will not be the case with this keyboard.
The wrist rest is often a cheap piece of plastic on other keyboards but on this one I really like it. It feels good.
Overall the keyboard feels good and looks good and if you've been looking for a keyboard with that mechanical feel of a PS/2 keyboard from the 80s, this is the one for you. I hope in the next version there are one touch volume and mute keys/wheels but I can certainly live with it as is.

Great item!
|
Pros: Mechanical Keyboard! Cherry Red MX! Backlit! Comfortable! Great build quality! Great sale price!
Cons: Nothing so far...
Great looking keyboard and great quality for the price during the sale! I had to pick one of these keyboards up since I'm a monoprice fanboy. The build quality isn't near my stellar Deck Legend, but this keyboard is still built very well with more functionality and half the price of my Deck. The board has a nice heft to it like any good mechanical keyboard should have. The wristrest is an excellent add-on to the keyboard and makes it very comfortable in my opinion but I wish it was a bit heavier. The keycaps and Cherry MX red switches actuate fairly early so it's great for gaming. The switches are very light, so heavy handed users resting your fingers on the keys may want to stay away and stick with Cherry MX black boards. This keyboard is great enough to make me retire my $200 Deck Legend for quite awhile. I 3 U Monoprice!
