DO NOT BUY
|
Pros: None
Cons: Didn't work
Just received in the mail after 2weeks and didn't work. I'll purchase the Samsung brand to see if that works instead
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Thank you for your review. And I am truly sorry to hear of your experience you have had with this product.
For now, if possible, please try a couple of troubleshooting techniques with me to see if we can resolve your issue.
What Samsung device are you using?
Have you tried another MHL device?
What about another HDMI cable?
Please let me know if the problems still occur. If it does, I can assist you in obtaining a replacement or a return RMA to see if a replacement will work better. We do have a lifetime warranty on non-electronics and cables as well as a 1 year warranty for electronics. And obtaining a replacement is of no additional cost. If you want to continue with an RMA just please provide the order# and if you wanted to return it or obtain a replacement. Thank you!

It works but... (SGH-i727R specific)
|
Pros: -Affordable -works
Cons: -no instructions -picture quality (Samsung Galaxy S II LTE - SGH-i727R) -sound drops out occasionally -occasional frame rate drops
I'll go through the con's to explain them.
There are no instructions so you may be concerned if you hook this up and don't see a pictures. 1. turn off your phone. 2. plug the MHL adapter into your phone, HDMI into the adapter and plug in your micro-usb power cable to the adapter. 3. Turn on your TV (and receiver if applicable) 4. Turn your phone on and the HDMI handshaking will take place correctly.
average picture quality - the image displayed on my 720p TV looked grainy, like it is 480.
sound drops out This may be the app I was trying (Candy Crush). I didn't have any problems while watching a video.
frame rate issues This may also be an issue with the app as the frame rate would drop enough that you would notice it.
After a little bit of testing I'd say this tech on this phone is not reliable. It would be completely fine for powerpoint presentations or if you had to use "in a pinch", a kludge.
Had I known the tech would work like this I wouldn't have bought the product. It's not horrible nor is it monoprice's fault. It is just not up to my expectations.

Doesn't Work with Nexus 4
|
Pros: Great Price
Cons: Doesn't Work
This was listed as an accessory for the Nexus 4 so I ordered it. It is not an accessory for the Nexus 4.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Nicholas,
Sorry that the MHL adapter didn't work out for you for your Nexus 4. The Nexus 4 actually doesn't utilize MHL like previous Samsung phones but uses SlimPort which is a different type of adapter that outputs to HDMI, VGA etc. Unfortunately we don't carry this particular adapter as of yet. If you like and don't have a real use for the MHL adapter I can issue an RMA for a return. I would just need an order number to get the process started. Again my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Sincerely
Tjayi Malone Tech Support
by Nicholas Pickle appreciate the response, but I'm not really worried about a refund for ten bucks. It just bad business to list the MHL adapter as an accessory for the Nexus 4 when it is not. If you want to do something for me, remove the MHL adapter from the nexus 4 accessory list and inform me when you make a slimport adapter. Thanks.
by Monoprice Administrator Hi Nicholas,
I understand and I looked back at the compatibility chart and there is no mention of the Nexus 4 but of the regular Samsung Nexus. This would be a different phone than the Nexus 4. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.
Thank you again for your feedback and continued business.

Apparently it's DOA
|
Pros: None that I've seen
Cons: Doesn't work DOA
Unit arrived dead when I ordered it over a year ago I'm guessing. Life got busy and didn't really have a need or time to use it, so I stored it away in my laptop bag. Just tried to use it the other day to watch a movie off my phone on the tv, and it wouldn't work at all. Just got a messed up screen. Sadly, others including myself were unable to watch a movie. Maybe I just got a bad one.

Watching Netflix on my TV using smartphone
|
Pros: Picture quality is great, watch Netflix on TV using my HTC Evo
I have an HTC Evo on Virgin Mobile's unlimited data plan so living out here in the sticks this is the only way I can watch Netflix. This device works flawlessly to project anything the phone is seeing to the TV on a spare HDMI input. The picture quality is very good and even though Netflix is a little pixelated sometimes, I really do forget I'm not watching satellite TV sometimes. You do have to run external power into the unit for my phone to work as this beast is an energy hog. Someone else noted that their phone was losing ground on the battery even with external power and this is also the case with my setup. Just start out with a full charge and you can go for a few hours continuous with no problems.
Bottom line - I use this thing all the time & it works great! Highly recommend.

Intermittent Playback of Video
|
Pros: It worked to transmit still images from my Galaxy SIII to the TV. I gave it two stars instead of one because it transmitted still images.
Cons: Does not transmit video continuously to the TV. Loses transmission when opening up apps.
I am reviewing this negatively because others have had similar issues, and although this is the FIRST monoprice product that I had an issue with, I believe other customers should know about the potential problems with this item. I rated the adapter poorly because it did not continuously transmit to TV when opening up different apps on the phone. More importantly, playing any type of video, resulted in intermittent loss of signal to the TV. Video and sound would play for less than a minute, and then it would cut out from the TV, with the TV saying no device detected. After 10-30 seconds, the picture and sound would reappear on the TV for a short period, again, less than 1 minute. This occurred with the phone and cables all lying still and firmly connected. I went through all trouble shooting procedures, including using two different HDMI cables that monoprice suggested to use with this adapter. Furthermore, when transmitting a still picture or just my homescreen, there was no loss of transmission, thus demonstrating I had everything connected properly. I contacted online tech support with monoprice, and said I was willing to try a new one if they thought I received a defective product, despite the fact that I've read multiple other reviews complaining about a similar problem. The support person, said he would just issue me a refund, and recommended I try PID: 10021 or 10020, so that is what I'm doing. I will review product 10020 once I receive it.

No Audio on Note 2

Pros: I have a picture that looks sharp.
Cons: There is no audio coming out of my TV.

Doesn't work with GoPro
|
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Didn't work.
I bought this to use with my GoPro camera. I couldn't get it to work. Not sure if it just isn't the right gadget. Will now try a mini HDMI to HDMI cable instead.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Riles,
My apologies for the issues you ran into with the adapter. This adapter is actually meant for cellular devices that support MHL. For your GoPro this wouldn't be compatible and you would need to use a micro HDMI. I have provided a link below for you. If you need to return the adapter I can setup an RMA for a return for you if you like. I would just need your order number to get the process started.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10253&cs_id=1025301&p_id=7557&seq=1&format=2&qs=forums

by Monoprice Administrator Hi Riles,
Thank you for your order information. I went ahead and created an RMA for a return and you will receive email confirmation and the RMA department will also contact you in regards to your return. If you have any questions regarding shipping, RMA confirmation number, or RMA confirmation email, as well as RMA return status, please send your inquiries directly to returns@monoprice.com.
In regards to your Samsung Epic, were you using the external micro USB port on the adapter? It sometimes is required for phones that require a lot of power output and may be needed in your case if it isn't already being used. Let me know if that helps and I can always cancel the RMA if it ends up working out for you.
Glad you have a cable that is already working. I wasn't sure which model GoPro you had, I was looking at the newer GoPro 3 Black Edition which states it supports micro, but glad you already have the correct cable because the one I had recommended wouldn't have worked for your model.
Your review process is now finished. If you were satisfied with my assistance, you can always leave a testimonial at this link.

You can also contact me directly at Tjayi.Malone@monoprice.com.

I purchased this product, along with a 15ft Ultra Slim Series High Performance HDMI® Cable w/ RedMere® Technology - Black to watch Netflix, etc. from my phone to my tv. Pros: Worked as advertised for use with Android smartphone
Cons: None
I used this item to connect my Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) to various HDTVs via HDMI in order to watch 720p x264 videos stored on my phone. The cable worked as advertised with every TV I tried. However, there were a few initial adjustments I had to make with the application (decoding) settings for my phone's video player in order to get everything in perfect working order. This was pretty painless but may have caused a stumble for the casual user. Naturally this had nothing to do with the adapter. I use the app MX Player to play video on my Android that had Ice Cream Sandwich which was later rooted and upgraded to Jelly Bean + CyanogenMod. The cable caused no problems whatsoever before/after unlocking & rooting or with any of the several Android flavors that have been on my phone over the past year. This item is a safe bet to say the least.

Pros: When I first got it it worked like a charm...I loved playing all my emulators and stuff on it e video quality was amazing
Cons: After I unplugged the adapter from the phone and plugged it back in later....the screen said HDMI connected, but it would flash off and on every 5 seconds or so....I've tried every method out there to try and solve this problem myself, but no lucky.
It was cool at first until it started malfunctioning

Pros: It works. It's compatible with the Samsung Galaxy SIII (SCH-I535) if you get an 11-to-5 pin adapter.
Cons: Very picky about what HDMI cables it works with. Does not work with long HDMI cables. If you have problems with the picture cutting out, try a different cable.
Just remember that when you hook your phone up, you're hooking up a phone. Don't expect blueray-quality picture. Also make sure you hook up power to the USB port on the side of the unit.

Buy it if you want to display your own content
|
Pros: Playback of your own content it works like a champ
Cons: The issue is that NFL and NHL app and most web site video links halt video playback when the MHL port is engaged.
This item functions as listed. The issue is that NFL and NHL app and most web site video links halt video playback when the MHL is engaged. The video playback works fine on the phone itself. When you plug into port playback halts.
On the other side if playback your own content it works like a champ. So the lesson here is buy it if you want to display your own content. If you want to do anything else with it I am not sure it will work for you, but that is Monoprice’s fault.

Doesn't work on galaxy s3

Pros: None
Cons: Will not work with galaxy s3
I was excited to find the adapter here, so I quickly bought it without further research. You shouldn't advertise that it works with the galaxy s3. I guess theres a pin problem?
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 8675. Unfortunately, Im afraid that is correct. The Samsung Galaxy S III requires the use of an 11-to-5 pin Micro USB adapter to use a standard 5-pin MHL adapter. Doesn't work with Verizon LG Spectrum V920
|
Pros: worked really good with my buddy's phone (Samsung Galaxy). Price is okay considering good product support and warranty.
Cons: none at the moment. just disappointed it didn't work too well with my phone (Verizon LG Spectrum v920).
was very excited to order and receive item, but unfortunately it didn't work too well with my cell phone (Verizon LG Spectrum v920) even though monoprice posted on the site that it was compatible. When in full screen mode, borders of screen cut off. When watching Netflix, display was smaller and video quality was poor with borders of video missing onscreen. works really good when i put on video that i recorded with my phone. but anyways i've decided to keep the 2 units that i've purchased considering the good product support and warranty. and also when i upgrade my phone, i will put them to use.

Pros: None
Cons: It does not work at all
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
My apologies the MHL adapter isn't working for you. If I may ask what model phone were you using it for? If for an S3 or Note II it requires the use of a 5 to 11pin adapter which we do carry and I can provide a link for if necessary. If not have you tried using the external micro usb on the adapter for power? Not all phones require the use of this but some do for adequate power. If that doesn't help we can always try an RMA for a replacement if you like, I would just need an order number to get the process started. Again my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Three defective adapters
|
Pros: It's supposed to work as HDMI to MHL adapter, but due to poor construction and non-existent quality control, it does not.
Cons: Shoddy construction and poor quality control
I've been through three adapters by now. My phone is an AT&T Samsung Note. It's MHL compatible and this particular adapter is supposed to work with it. The trouble is none of the three replacements did. The first one worked for about 10 min. The second was a considerable improvement and worked for the whooping 15 min. The third one, however, decided to be Dead On Arrival. I just can't believe all the positive reviews of this "product" here. Did I get all these adapters from a different batch? Finally, I decided to refund it. I do not the defective adapter 4. I have to credit the return and refund dep for the quick replacements and refund, but the issue still remains: poor quality control.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Sorry for the problems you ran into with all the MHL adapters you tried. I just wanted to make certain you have a Note and not a Note II correct? I have already notified our Product Management Team to review and test this adapter for any potential issues. Glad the RMA department was able to assist you with your refund and again my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Sincerely

Does the job at a good price
|
Pros: Price, gets the job done
Cons: None, except maybe a longer cable might be useful.
Probably one of the best options for an MHL adapter I've seen. Low price and does the job it's intended for.
On my original order, they misread the item number and sent me the wrong item, sending me a USB wi-fi adapter instead. After I reported the mistake, the quickly sent me the MHL adapter, and told me to keep the USB wi-fi adapter, and apologized for their mistake. Very good customer service if you ask me.

Pros: Looks good and relatively inexpensive.
Cons: Doesn't work for my Samsung Galaxy S II.
After emailing customer service and getting the OK that my phone (Samsung Galaxy S II) would work with the Micro USB to HDMI MHL Adapter, I bought it. I tried connecting to my TV and also my Blu-ray player, but to no luck.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
My apologies the MHL adapter isn't working out with your SII phone. If I may ask are you using the additional micro usb for power with the adapter? If not it is required with some phones and may be needed for use with the SII. If this is already being done or doesn't help we can always try a replacement adapter if you like or if you are dissatisfied with the item I can setup a return. I would just need an order number to get the process started. Again my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Sincerely
Tjayi Malone Tech Support
by gvjames I used the micro usb to power the adapter (I used its charging unit-cable & plug-in), but still nothing. I have a Samsung Galaxy S II-R760 model and maybe it just doesn't work with this MHL Adapter.
by Monoprice Administrator Hi,
Yes you do have the right adapter for your SII and it's a possibility the adapter is faulty. One other thing to try is rebooting the phone while the adapter is connected to see if it detects the MHL on start up. Also you can try putting the phone in airplane mode and try turning off usb debugging if its enabled. I still went ahead and setup an RMA for a replacement for you and the RMA department will provide you with a prepaid label as well.
If you have any questions regarding shipping, RMA confirmation number, or RMA confirmation email, as well as RMA return status, please send your inquiries directly to returns@monoprice.com.
Your review process is now finished. As soon as you receive your replacement please submit a revised review or generate a new one. You can also contact me directly at Tjayi.Malone@monoprice.com

Does NOT work with Samsung S3
|
Pros: Unknown
Cons: Doesn't work with my phone.
This device does not work with the Samsung Galaxy S3, so it doesn't do any good for me.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Charles,
Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 8675. Now unfortunately, the Samsung Galaxy S3 requires a special 11-pin version of the micro USB connector. In order to use a standard MHL or OTG adapter, you will need a 5-pin to 11-pin micro USB adapter such as PID 10019 (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10833&cs_id=1083314&p_id=10019&seq=1&format=2qs=forums). Sorry again for any trouble and hope this helps!
Should you have further questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you for doing business with us.

by Charles J. The adapter was a good price but by the time I order the adapter and shipping its just not worth it to me... Thanks for you help...

USB to HDMI adapter not working
|
I tried with a Samsung Galaxy SII and a Samsung Galaxy Note to connect to an HDTV and it does not work-any advice?
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Firas,
Just to clarify, you are using a micro HDMI to plug into the side of the adapter to power it correct? Please let me know, thank you!
John Lingo Tech Support
by Firas No- I am connecting the USB side to the phone and connecting a standard HDMI cable to the other end...
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Firas,
There is another micro port on the actual adapter itself it should be on the side instead of the top like the HDMI, please let me know if you have located it. Thank you!
John Lingo Tech Support
by Monoprice Administrator And sorry, to clarify, it is another micro USB port on the side of the adapter not a micro HDMI as I said above. Thank you!
John Lingo Tech Support
by Firas Yes- I see it...I have a usb charger going to the side port and the usb of the adapter itself going into the phone- then an HDMI cable plugged into the screen- NOT WORKING...
by Firas Any ideas?
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Firas,
It should work, did you want to try a replacement to see if it would work better? I would also try a different set of HDMI cables as well as another TV to see if there's just an incompatibility issue occurring. Thank you!

Cable didnt work for me
|
The description was a little vague. So i bought this cable when I shouldve bought a different one. This does not work with Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Not at all. I contacted a technician and he directed me to the right cable. The correct cable doesnt need an adapter nor a separate HDMI cable. Wish I had found the right one first! Monoprice offered an RMA refund, but for a $7 cable I didnt bother.

Great little device
|
Pros: Affordable Works great High-quality picture
Cons: Requires external power May draw so much power than despite 'charging' your battery level goes down
I purchased this almost a year ago, and have not had any problems with it. The only thing I dislike is that with my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket's stock 1000ma charger, it seems that the battery level will slowly decrease when using this adapter, despite the phone showing as 'charging'. Perhaps this issue could be remedied with a more powerful (1500ma? 2000ma?) charger, but with the stock charger, you will lose battery life while using this.

Great little MHL adapter that works exactly as described. Works perfectly with my Galaxy Nexus (Verizon LTE edition).
Note: power is *required* to make this adapter work. Don't forget to plug in your USB cable into it or it will not turn on.

Samsung S2 T989D
|
I rated this product 8 since i have read reviews from consumers stating that it does what it is suppose to do. However, this device is not working when I hook it up to either my S2 or S3. For the S2 I'm not sure if the device I have in particular is defective or is not compatible with the model phones I have. For the S3 I know now it's a pin issue and is not a problem.
Tech support, I see in the product description that model T989 is listed as supported, can you please tell me if there is a difference between T989D and T989 and whether T989D is a supported device or not.
Thanks in advance.

Pros: It worked with my S3 after I bought the special adapter
Cons: It needs to be USB powered and they don't supply the cable
Kinda stupid how you are forced to power it with a USB and yet it doesn't come with a USB cable. You have to have careful planning of lengths of the cables or you are gonna be in a weird location after so many things are plugged in lol. I bought the S3 adapter which seems to be removed from the site now, but it works perfect for me. Also got the recommend at the top HDMI cable. Once you go to the play store and get ultimate rotation control than this becomes really awesome as you can rotate everything to horizontal which looks better on the tv.

Not Sure Yet
|
My phone is the HTC EVO 4G from Virgin Mobile. I have Time Warner Cable (Standard connection) and a RNX- Easy N400 Rosewill N router that goes to 150 MbPS. I live in a big house with the router and cable connection on the second floor, my Sony HDTV on the first floor and my Samsung Syncmaster 24 inch screen in the basement.
I haven't reactivated my Netflix streaming account as I opted for mail DVDs. Usually the screen on my EVO 4G is visible on my TVs. The few times it wasn't, a quick reset of the phone solved the problem. I can surf the web without a problem when connected to my HDTvs. Streaming works sometimes and sometimes doesn't. I get good streaming on NHL video on NHL web site and MLB video is fine as long as I close some windows. ESPN is poor reception.
I sense that a more up to date router might improve things. But I've had Router nightmares before and this Rosewill RNX- Easy N400 router has been hassale free for the last 31 months.

Ultimately works, but quirky
|
Pros: Audio sounds great, picture is 1080p
Cons: HDMI problems at their finest...
Wish that the dongle was at the end of a long usb cable so that the MHL adapter could stay in the cabinet instead of having a power and HDMI cable hanging off a 4 inch cable connected to the phone. May have to look for a micro USB extension cable for this purpose.
I unboxed this and connected it via HDMI straight to my TV via HDMI. The phone displayed the HDMI logo and began charging, but the TV remained blank. When I connected it to my Denon receiver which is ultimately connected to the same TV it worked fine. Go figure. Word to the wise for HTC Evo 4G LTE owners: you must disallow the screen to sleep while charging. Even though the phone knows that it is connected to an external video device, it will stop outputting as soon as the phone display falls asleep. This change should happen automatically when an MHL adapter is connected, and is a perfect example of HTC engineers failing to pay attention to details a la Apple.

Cool gadget. Great price
|
Pros: Works great, very easy to use.
Cons: None.
This is a cool little accessory that lets you sent HMDI video and sound from sources like your smartphone. I've used it to display video of from my Samsung on my sister's 60" Sony TV. (I can play the same video wirelessly on my own 56" TV via my Samsung Blu Ray player, but it is nice to have a portable solution for use with non-Samsung systems.) And you can't beat the price.

Does what it says
|
Pros: Works with Samsung Galaxy S III, SCH-I535
Cons: Requires power through a USB cable
I'm using this in conjunction with product number: 9716, which is required for the Samsung Galaxy S III.
The video was dropping out on me every 3 seconds until I got a replacement 9716. Now everything is working fine. If you are having video problems using this product with the Galaxy S III, try replacing your 9716 as it may be the problem.
Note: This product doesn't come with any instructions and it might not be obvious to you that you need to power it with a USB cable. I used the USB cable that came with my phone. It is a dual-purpose USB cable that plugs into a 120v wall receptacle adapter for charging purposes.

by Monoprice Administrator Hi,
Thank you for the information and I see that the RMA you had for a refund has since been cancelled. Before I generate a new one for a replacement I wanted to confirm the make and model of your phone, because I know you mentioned that the unit didn't work for your phone but wanted to clarify if that was because it was damaged on arrival or if it was incompatible with your particular phone? This way I know to indeed send out a replacement or continue with the return that was already in place.
Thank you again

If you have any questions regarding shipping, RMA confirmation number, or RMA confirmation email, as well as RMA return status, please send your inquiries directly to returns@monoprice.com.

Won't work with Cyanogenmod (GS3)
|
Apparently this adapter and other MHL devices don't work on phones that are running the Cyanogenmod operating system, like my Samsung Galaxy S III (yes, i also bought the 11pin adapter). I got USB keyboards and mice to work though, so not all of my order was a waste of money :P
Not giving a negative score because this supposedly should work on Samsung's OS. http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=5561

Pros: -HIGH DEF TV FROM YOUR PHONE -Small/Portable adapter you can store in your pocket -Affordable
Cons: NONE!
Works as it should! I'm using it with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus and it works perfect! It's worth the affordable price tag. But with most phones you must be charged more than 50% before it'll output video.

Pros: Good quality, cheap and does what it is supposed to do
Cons: Doesn't work with my HP touchpad but that is HP's fault and not the product
I bought this to display my HP Touchpad (running android) on my TV, mostly for Netflix however I now know that the Touchpad doesn't work with it :( oh well. My Galaxy Nexus on the other hand works great and I can not watch Netflix on my 42" TV instead of my Touchpad or Galaxy :)

Works great
|
Pros: Small, sturdy, great quality from a trusted and reliable company.
Cons: need 5-11 pin adapter for Galaxy S3 compatibility
I thought it would work on my S3 from reading the compatibility chart but ALAS my dumb self didn't see the astrix saying I need the 5-11 pin adapter. I'm ordering it now, but I am expecting no problems. From browsing the web I think there are no disadvantages from using the 5-11 pin adapter into a standard MHL as opposed to using the new proprietary cable. I will let you know if I have any issues
Worked perfectly on a friends Samsung Galaxy S2 and Note. Was gonna sell it to them and buy the proprietary cable, but like I said, should be no problem just using the adapter and both combined are still cheaper. I love monoprice. Now I just need the bluetooth wrap-around headset and Monoprice needs to start carrying bluetooth keyboard and mice and I'll be set.

Crap
|
Pros: Worked once, good picture. Make sure you use Just Scan if your TV supports it in order to get the proper resolution.
Cons: Connector caved in after one use, no longer plugs into micro USB so can't receive power.
Needs to be connected to both USB, HDMI, and, if using a Galaxy S3, a separate adapter not yet being sold at monoprice. It's much easier to just simply hook a laptop up to HDMI. I can only see this being useful if you leave your phone close to a power source/ TV and control it remotely with bluetooth, for games or something. Controlling the phone with all the cords plugged into it feels awkward. Some apps don't even support landscape mode, such as flipboard. You'll likely still save some money, but be wary of shoddy construction.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,

Pros: This product is absolutely wonderful. The quality is fantastic. Bought the HDMI cord and the MHL cord from Monoprice and was delivered faster then I expected.
Cons: None
I bought it last week or so, and the price has gone about 2-3 dollars up since then. I wonder why. I still encourage everyone to buy it through Monoprice. I could not find it cheaper anywhere and the quality is really good.

Works on my HTC Evo V 4G (Evo 3D)
|
Pros: low cost vs other vendors
Cons: charge must done through wall adapter, not via computer or TV usb port.
This is one of those accessories that it either work or don't and how durable it is. I bought this for my Virgin Mobile USA HTC Evo V 4G (aka Sprint's HTC Evo 3D). Set up was simple : plug one end to your phone, one end to power adapter, HDMI part to your TV. I did notice you need to use the wall charger, if you use the USB port on a computer or the TV USB port (if any), your phone will eventually run out of juice. The built quality is decent. I won't go into audio/video quality since that's more up to the phone than this adapter.

Isolated issue with certain tv model
|
Pros: Nothing short of awesome.
Cons: Casing feels very lightweight & fragile - but it hasn't fallen appart yet.
I use the adapter with the Samsung Galaxy SII. I'm having an isolated issue on a particular tv model (Sharp Aquos LC52LE700UN). The screen flickers (5 seconds on, 1 second off) if the wireless is turned on. Sometimes it tells me the audio signal is incompatible. If I switch off the wireless on my phone, everything works.
It's a bit of a hassle, since I wanted to use BSPlayer and wirelessly stream movies from my home network (can't store files larger than 4gb on FAT32 drives...) I doubt this has anything to do with the adapter however (but who knows?)

Worked perfect for my Samsung Galaxy S2
|
Pros: Did exactly what I wanted it to do. Micro USB out to HDMI, put it in my LCD tv and it worked flawlessly.
Cons: None and I've used it several times already.
Best little gadget for outputting my video off my Samsung Galaxy S2 phone. The picture is crisp, no delay, etc. Worked exactly as I was hoping for. Just make sure to also plug in your usb to a power source in addition to the hdmi and it'll be perfect. My tv has plenty of ports so I plugged in the HDMI and usb straight to tv and worked great.

Pros: Price compared to others Quality
Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Quality looks just fine too. It does not look like some cheap low quality product that you might find from other places.

Pros: It functions perfectly :)
Highly Recommended, the only con is the micro USB slips out at times when you plug it in.

Works great!
|
Pros: Price :)
Cons: Samsung seems to disable some functions using this adapter. Guess it's copyright protection related maybe.
Bought this to use with my Samsung Galaxy S2 (i777) works just like it stated.

Mobile HDTV computing
|
Pros: Tiny. Can be used on any HDTV with HDMI port.
Cons: Flimsy build quality. USB Cable that comes with it isn't long enough.
Used this on my Sasmsung Galaxy II to Ustream a live funeral at the hospital without any video/audio hiccups. The only drawback is having to carry a bulky HDMI cable around. But that's ok.

Going to be a while until I get a TV with MHL already but this does the job. Works perfect with my Sprint Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch and an LG LCD TV.

Galaxy S II
|
Pros: Works great on my Samsung Galaxy S II i777.
Cons: None for adapter
Phone screen stays on when playing. This is a problem with the phone though.
Looks perfect on my 58" Panasonic Plasma. Great for viewing pictures and videos taken on phone. Not sure how it'd be for a full length HD movie since the screen on the phone stays on while playing.

it works like a charm

Pros: Adapter needs no setup, it works great.
Cons: It requires external power even with my EVO 3D
I'm very happy with this adapter and would recommend it to everyone. Literary "plug & play"

power defecit
|
Pros: video quality good
Cons: power deficit?
Not sure if this happens with just the evo3d, or if mine is an isolated case, but it seems like this adapter is throttling power input from 1 Amp down to a lower mAh value, effectively draining the battery when the phone is heavily in use (e.g. streaming an hd video)
by Monoprice Administrator Thank you for the information. It does appear that this product will not allow 1000mA charging. It is designed to plug into your tv's USB port, which should only allow 500mA charging. Typically, streaming video and displaying on the tv should not cause enough power draw to drain your battery.
If your power drain is too high, verify that you are not using one radio type at a time. if you are using wifi, make sure your 4g and bluetooth are disabled. If you're using your mobile network for streaming, make sure wifi and bluetooth are disabled and that you're not using any wifi tethering or hotspot applications. There may also be some android apps to help manage power draw on your phone.

MHL Adapter
|
Pros: Works well, Good price, good quality,
Cons: I don't believe this is a true con of the adapter(probably software on phone), but when I use it on my TV, the picture seems to be in a 4:3 format, and I haven't been able to figure out why it isn't in 16:9 format.
works fine, does what is it supposed to. Less than half the price of the Sprint one for my phone.
Plug your micro-usb phone charger in to the adapter, and plug a HDMI cable from the adapter to your display, plug it in to your phone, and you are set. I can now bring Netflix and other stuff my phone does anywhere I go. Plus it charges the phone while it is plugged in, so no fear of the battery dying while watching a movie.

Pros: It works, is available, is priced cheaper than any other place I have found on the net.
Cons: None I have found
Permits display of smartphone screen on any TV equipped with an HDMI input.
In addition to this MHL adapter, you will also need a USB to USB cable and a micro-USB charger - I could not get the adapter to work without external power.
Perfect duplicate picture on my 42" Panasonic Plasma screen.
