Not a good value in the long run
|
Pros: worked great for a while
Cons: Died after 6 months
I was initially impressed with this unit and was contemplating ordering a couple more. But before I made that order the original battery unit failed to charge. I don't think I will be gambling on this unit again with a service life of 6 months.
by Monoprice Administrator Hi Maxx,
My apologies about what happened with the battery pack going out on you. We do offer a 1 year warranty on the item and if you like I can get an RMA setup for a replacement for you. I would just need an order number to get the process started. Again my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Sincerely
Tjayi Malone Tech Support
by Maxx I do appreciate the reply. I was unaware of the 1 year warranty. I had looked on the website but couldn't find any warranty information other than the 30 day money back guarantee and lifetime warrantee on cables and non-electronic items. The order number was 6740734. Once again thank you.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Maxx,
I went ahead and created an RMA for a replacement charger to be sent out. You will receive email confirmation and the RMA department will also contact you via email in regards to your replacement. If you have any questions regarding shipping, RMA confirmation number, or RMA confirmation email, as well as RMA return status, please send your inquiries directly to returns@monoprice.com.
Your review process is now finished. As soon as you receive your replacement please submit a revised review or generate a new one. You can also contact me directly at Tjayi.Malone@monoprice.com
If you were satisfied with my assistance, you can always leave a testimonial at this link. http://www.monoprice.com/home/testimonials.asp

Cons: Cheap Button, Failed after 2 weeks.
Worked great for the first 2 weeks I owned it, however now it wont charge my phone unless I tape the button down.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Mr. Martin,
Sorry for the problems with the battery no longer charging your phone. If you like I can issue an RMA for a replacement I would just need an order number to get the process started. Again my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Can not recommend!
|
Pros: It was not DOA
Cons: Does not remotely work as expected or as advertised.
First off, I love Monoprice and have been purchasing items from them for years. Of all of the hundreds/thousands I have spent, this is one of two products that I would not recommend to anyone. First unit worked yet would not even charge a 4S iPhone all the way. Item would never take a full charge itself either. Monoprice painlessly RMA'd that one. Second unit arrived and it would accept a full charge. However, its performance as a back up power source or charging battery fell way short just like the first. If just used on an iPhone or small iPod it may work yet don't plan on more than a 80% charge or if your device is in use or on while charging maybe 40% charge and/or an extra 30 minutes of use.... Would it remotely charge an iPad: NO way. We own several ipads to include an iPad1, iPad2, and two iPad3s. Regardless of which, even if the MP battery was completely charged, it would not charge any iPad more than 12-18%. And if plugged in while the iPad was in use you would get about an extra 5 minutes of use...
Can not recommend. This item is now a white decoration in my junk drawer. - I would send this second unit back for a complete refund yet with shipping cost its not worth my time etc..

Useless for iPad

Works OK for charging an iPhone but pretty useless for an iPad. Need the 5000 for that, should have known but trusted the product description. OK for the price but would have paid the few $$ extra if I'd realized.

Pros: Charge devices right up as described on the product packaging. Has 2 USB outputs with different current ratings which helps where to plug your device. Battery pack can hold the charge for 3 - 4 days.
Cons: Is only good for a one time charge if you have a dead phone. You will need to re-charge battery pack for at least 2hrs once discharged.
Very handy battery pack for emergency usage. I typically re-charge this Battery/charger with a portable solar panel if you would want to call it a 100% environmentally friendly charger..
by Monoprice Administrator Hi Fernando,
Thank you for your feedback and glad the battery pack is working out for you. I just wanted to let you know we carry a 5000mah that may work even better for you and give you extra juice you may need for other devices. I have posted a link below just in case.

Not for my iphone 5
|
Pros: Nice design, light weight. comes with charging cable. Monoprice has great customer service and refunded me fully including shipping. Gave 5 stars for great customer service and deducted 5 stars for non working product.
Cons: Did not work with my iphone 5. I charged fully the battery pack before using and it simply did not charge my iphone 5. There was no beep or image icon showing my iphone 5 was being charged at all, just dead in the water after waiting a while to see if it was charging but nothing.
Disappointed it did not work but felt very satisfied by customer service refund that I would continue to shop here and recommend to my friends too.

Great Product
|
Bought it for my honeymoon in Mexico had a 5+ hour flight and knew my tablet's battery would die. Changed this up before I left for the airport and when my tablet gave me the notice that she was about dead, plugged her in to this battery and kept going watching movies. Now I keep it in my bag for those days where I forget to charge my phone and its dead by the end of the work day.

False advertising
|
Monoprice advertises this battery "can fully recharge the battery of any existing mobile phone or tablet." That's just blatantly false. It's 3000 mAh. After several tries and finding this battery when fully charged only improved my iPad by roughly 10 percentage points, I contacted Monoprice. Returns told me, "The size of the iPad 3's internal battery is roughly 10,000 mAh, ". So they even know this battery won't even come close to charging an iPad yet advertise that it will. :(

Good Buy.
|
Pros: Very compact. Holds charge for a long time. Can be charges from any source.
I can charge 2 iPhone5 completely. 3000mah at $22 is an amazing buy. Comparable product would cost me $70 and is bulky too. The fact that I can charge this in Car, from computer, or any other USB power source is great.

3000MAh External Battery
|
Pros: Great size. Good capacity. Easy to use. Good price.
Cons: It does not come with connector adapters like some other similar products do. Not sure about the 3000 MAh capacity. I'm not a big fan of the Apple look. Others may like it though.
This has been great for keeping my cell phone on especially in the car while bluetoothed to my stereo and driving through spotty reception areas. It is great for charging the phone while walking around too. My wife has used this and was impressed with it.

Great Little Battery
|
Pros: Capable of charging my Droid 4 and iPod Touch fully with half a battery to spare Small form factor 5v/2.1A output
Cons: Battery shuts off after a few seconds of not drawing power, which makes it inconvenient for applications with sporadic power draw
I bought this battery primarily for use with my passthrough electronic cigarette. In this function it serves me well, allowing me to vape at 5v/2.1A for several days without recharging. It seems to maintain peak output consistently until the last quarter of the battery. The only caveat is noted in the cons section abovein the passthrough application, this means that the battery will shut off after a few draws, requiring the user to turn it back on to continue vaping.
I have also used this to charge my phone and iPod on airplanes and long car rides and it is capable of charging both fairly quickly with nearly half a battery to spare.
For this price, I think it is a very handy gadget to own.

Pretty good
|
Pros: Small, affordable, quickly charges, works on tablets
Cons: Not sure of full capacity rating...
I just received the Unit today. Immediately I plugged it in to my Samsung Galaxy III phone (1900mAh battery, 1 amp port) at 55% battery level. At 58% I set a timer for 30 minutes and checked again - the charge increased 20% to 78% and one bar (of 4) on the front cover was gone indicating a 25% drop. I set a timer for another 30 minutes and checked again... the phone was at 94% and the 2 of 4 bar was blinking (50% charge I assume). Slightly slower rate (makes enough sense) once closer to full. So, overall 50-75% reduction in power in the 3000 mAh batttery pack charged a 1900 mAh battery 40-45% (though the phone was running during this time, but not being used).
Granted... this is with the charge on the unit as received. I imagine it will be a little stronger later once fully charged before use.
After reaching 100% the unit remained connected for another ~20-30 minutes until it went from 2 bars down to 1 bar back to 2. The unit never shut off, though the phone still reported a red LED for charging. When the phone finally switched to charged about 10-15 minutes later the charger did shut off, then the phone screen turned on, the charger turned back on, and though the phone showed a green LED the unit tried to charge again. After about 2 minutes it shut off and was finally at rest.
Overall I'm happy with the unit and would buy again, though the sale price was much better than full price.

I purchase 2 of these, to keep in each car. Also purchased the multi-function cable (product 8839) to keep along with this external battery. Can't wait to actually use it, will update the review once I've had a chance to see how it actually performs, although I don't expect any issues with any monoprice product!

Very neat
|
Pros: -Size -Weight -Value -Capacity
Cons: None
This is a nifty device. We've only had it for ~24 hours, so questions on longevity will have to wait. The device itself is slightly larger than our smartphones, but lighter it fits comfortably in the hand. It's got kind of an interesting texture, and looks a lot like an iPhone with the button on the front. Our unit arrived fully charged, but after a use it seemed to recharge from 25%-full in about an hour and a half. I just used some arbitrary micro USB charger we had lying around the device doesn't come with an AC charger, but does come with a full size A-type - micro B which you can use to either charge the unit itself or your device.
Charge rate seemed perfectly fine. We don't have any devices that use 2.1A chargers, so I can't test that. A smartphone plugged into the 1A port charged at least as quickly as it does off our wall chargers, recharging the 1300mAh battery in the wife's phone from 18%-full in about an hour. According to the blinkenlights on the front of the unit, this left 25%-50% charge, which seems about right. To charge you connect your device, then hold the power button down for ~2 seconds to turn it on. The device also turns itself off when you disconnect your phone, so it shouldn't sit on in your backpack/purse/whatever.
I'm not totally sure why the two A-type plugs have different amperage ratings. Maybe the 1A plug has a more efficient converter in it? (which the description seems to imply) Both plugs seem to work at the same time I plugged both our phones in at once and it worked, although I doubt that's how you're supposed to use it.
In sum, this is a pretty great little battery box for a great price. I've been eyeing these types of battery backups for a while, but they seemed too expensive. This is pretty much exactly what I was looking for.
