Cons: Doesn't work
If you have a Galaxy S4 do not buy. It won't work and you are stuck with it. CSR said she would issue an RMA then said I would have the RMA in 1 - 3 minutes, then without taking a breath said there will not be an RMA (or to that affect) and you are responsible for the shipping return.
It's cheap, I should have known. Learn from me.

DOA / Instantly refunded by RMA
|
Pros: It looks nice enough, and it only cost a dollar. RMA refund was approved instantly and they didn't want me to send it back.
Cons: It didn't function
Maybe this works for some people. Mine wouldn't even turn on. It makes me nervous enough to attach an expensive device to a $1 power supply, so this was going to be my spare car charger. Guess I'll go without one. The RMA was fast and they didn't ask me to ship it back.

by Monoprice Administrator Hello Dominique,
Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 6765. Unfortunately, it sounds like you may have received a defective product. Now if you'd like, I can help setup an RMA for a replacement. If you would like me to proceed with the RMA, all I would need is the order # this charger is under. Got 2, one's working well, the other died after 6 months
|
One of the two I got worked great for about 5 months, but about a month ago, it stopped working. Usually the light won't come on to show it is plugged in, but even when the light is on, it doesn't charge my device. I guess that's why it's under $1.50! I'm gonna try one of the more expensive models this time.
I do have another one (which is 3 months newer) which is still working fine.

Terribly sorry about the charging melting on you. If you care for a replacement I can get one setup for you, I would just need an order number to get the process started or if you want a return I can get that setup as well. I would just need an order number to get things started.

by Oleg Leikin Hi Tjayi,
Actually I've bought two pieces and both of them have melted. I'm not looking for a replacement since I've already ordered new chargers from different source.
There is nothing to return since those ones are in the garbage bin.

by Monoprice Administrator Hi Oleg,
I see and sorry again for the trouble with the car chargers you had. Glad you were able to find alternatives to work for you. If you have any other questions or concerns please let me know.

Very poor construction, breaks easily
|
Pros: Cheap, works for a little while
Cons: Falls apart, splits in half, stops charging reliably, only lasts a few months
I bought 2 of these, one of which broke after a month, the second is still technically working but it is falling apart, it came apart at the seams and now if you don't wiggle and angle the cord exactly right it won't charge your device.
Normally I'd say "you get what you pay for" but in my experience monoprice's products are usually cheap and sturdy, so I'm a little disappointed.

by stufff Hi John,
It has been over a year on these so I think they are no longer covered by warranty if they are considered electronics. It's not a big deal as they are only $1 and one of them did last 2 years though not in good condition. I've already purchased a sturdier one.
Thanks for your offer though and have a nice day!

Works well with my Motorola Droid 3 and ipod nano (not at the same time of course).

Good, but read review
|
Pros: Works. Cheap.
Cons: Cheap materials.
I have had a number of these. They work great. Only issue I've come across was when using a non gold coated monoprice usb cable paired with it. The two metals (in the charger, and on the cable) reacted from touching each other while stored in my glove box, and corroded (similar to rust). After that happened, it would not work 100%. When it would work, it charged very slowly. My advice, just make sure you purchase the gold coated cords that monoprice offers, or use your stock cable that your device came with. :)

Awesome charger for the price.

Pros: It works
Cons: None
Was a little skeptical that a USB car charger this cheap would work, but it has worked perfectly for a year now. So I bought a couple more recently, one to keep in briefcase for travel and a another for a friend.

Car Lighter Charger for Cell Phone
|
Pros: Works great! Great price!
Cons: None I can think of.
Plugs into the cigarette lighter socket in my car and can charge my cell phone through a USB to micro USB interface cable. No problems, and the cost is a fraction of what Motorola wants for basically the same thing.

Pros: Super affordable. Will get you through in a pinch.
Cons: could be my vehicle electronic system but these chargers don't last very long and burn out quickly. They are so affordable that you can purchase a few to get you through the year for lest than the cost of a Best Buy brand name charger.

Not for Droid Bionic
|
Although the specs state this charger will charge at 1,000mA, it will not charge a Droid Bionic, which only requires 950mA. I don't recommend this charger for smartphones.

Not very reliable
|
Pros: Cheap
Cons: - Flimsy cigarette lighter connector - Broke in less than a week of use as a phone charger
I was kind of disappointing with this product despite its low cost. It would often fall out of the car charging port and broke after less than a week of daily use.

Can't beat the price
|
Pros: Inexpensive. Supplies up to 0.6 Amps at +5 VDC. A great value at this price.
Cons: Runs warm. Cannot supply 1 Amp at +5VDC, by design. Large size.
Engineer's review: The charger is easy to disassembly. Simply unscrew the center piece and then pry off the center ring. The case can then be pried apart. The design is based on a MC34063 switching regulator which is somewhat dated. It uses through hole components (rather than surface mount) which attributes to it's large size. The regulator uses bipolar darlington transistors on the high side of the switcher and a schottky diode on the low side. By today's standards, this is not a very efficient design which means the charger will normally run warm. The regulator is thermally protected and will, therefore, shut down if it gets too hot. The regulator is not rated for automotive duty (only 0°C - 70°C) and may not work if it's too hot or cold in the car. The data pins ARE tied together and will be seen as a charger. The charger will provide over 1 Amp into a short circuit but based on the components selected, it can only provide a little over 0.6 Amps at +5 VDC which is similar to a USB 2.0 port. This charger will not quickly charge a device but will run most for an extended period of time. Realize that most chargers in a device with Li-ion batteries monitor the battery temperature and will limit the charging current when the battery gets too warm. This means that any car charger may not quickly charge a device in a hot car. Even with these limitations, this charger is a great value.

Almost as desired
|
Pros: It works... mostly Cheap
Cons: Doesn't charge as fast as it should
I bought 2, and neither charge at 1A like my wall charger. I haven't hooked it up to a meter but you can tell in the battery graph that it is charging at roughly 700mA instead of the 1A it should be. I realize it's cheap, but would gladly spend double the price (still cheap) for a better product at this point.

Breaks after use
|
Pros: Worked well the first few months
Cons: Breaks apart after extended use.
I purchased 3 of these. 1 is still working, 1 stopped working, and 1 split in half. On the 1 that is still working the the casing is starting to split in half, which is what caused one of my other ones to fail. I'm hoping that a bit of scotch tape will hold it together so that it lasts another few months.

Died after a few uses
|
Pros: Low price
Cons: Stopped working after 5 or 6 uses.
I had purchased some of these about 2 years ago, and they worked flawlessly up until a few weeks ago 2 years of service for this price is unbeatable. I ordered 4 to replace my old ones. The first one worked great for a few days and then stopped working completely. The second one worked once after that, it would take about 5 minutes before it would come on and charge. It died shortly after. The third and fourth worked for a combined total of 3 days.
These chargers were used in several different vehicles and no longer work in any vehicle. These would have been 10/10 if they would have worked as flawlessly as my first set.

You get what you pay for
|
Pros: It worked for a few minutes
Cons: It broke almost immediately
I bought two of these things, and they both basically exploded into a pile of cheap plastic and metal when I actually tried to use them. They are very cheap and not well built. The first one stopped working before it exploded, and the second one just kind of fell apart trying to put it in the cigarette lighter. Not sure what else I was expecting for $2 though.

6765 Car Charger
|
Pros: Work as Designed!
Cons: None!
I have ordered hundreds of these from this vendor... and not one problem! Every single one works as they are suppose to! Not a dudd in the bunch so far. That makes them beat the odds over every other product I've ever ordered. There is usually at least one in a hundred that fail. Not these!

Works
|
Pros: Cheap, works
Cons: Gets a little warm
Package this with a micro usb cable and you have a phone car charger for $2. It charges pretty fast and seems solid enough. It gets a little warm, but I think all car chargers do.

Not worth the money
|
Pros: Has a USB port
Cons: When it smokes, it stinks
Worked for a couple hours and burned up charging my iPhone3G on a vacation trip. Smelled like burnt electronics. Spend a couple extra bucks and get a brand name USB-CLA that you can return if it burns up
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 6765. Unfortunately, it sounds like you may have received a defective product. Now if you'd like, I can help setup an RMA for a replacement. If you would like me to proceed with the RMA, all I would need is the order # this charger is under. Sorry again for the trouble and thanks in advance!

Smoked
|
Pros: Low cost
Cons: Bought six, two died.
I bought six of these. Two got really hot and smoked. I believe the LED was shorted out. It became very hot and smoked. The units still worked but I threw them away because they were a fire hazard.

Excellent Value
|
Pros: this is a great price for a great product.
Cons: none
I have 2 of these, one for each van i own. I've had the one for a couple of years now. Still working great. You might find some cheaper ones on ebay, but the quality will not be the same. Great investment, i've got 4 kids and we charge our ipods, phones, and kindle fire with this [and the right cable to convert to usb].

Pros: Cheap. When it works, it works.
Cons: Cheaply made. I received a couple where the circuit board was not positioned well inside the case and the entire board would move around inside the case when you tried to insert the USB cable. I also received one where the solder holding the spring loaded prong on the end of the charger broke on first use.
The circuit boards are hand soldered and look pretty sloppy.
Far cheaper than other options, but too many headaches with these to be worth the savings. Try the newer model.

Not bad
|
Pros: Compact
Cons: Connection can get loose
This is not a bad product. I use it in my car with a 1.5' cable because I hate the coiled car charters. The only issue I have had is that the connection is easily pulled apart just enough to not charge my phone. As long as I make sure all the connections are tight I works great.

Pros: Cheap and works good.
Cons: Had 3 that burned out... were in different cars and powered different phones.
Everything I buy from Monoprice is great... except for power supplies like these... First one took 9 months before it burned out, replaced it and next one took 1 month to burn... replaced that one and the following took 2 months to burn out. I said OK i'm done with these and instead bought the 6152... it lasted 1 month in my new car with my new Droid and now that one's burned out. I dont know what the deal is but the customer service if GREAT and they replace them with no problem... I did learn from my first mistakes and bought 2 of the 6152s cause I figure it would burn out sometime. But 1 month, common! I've got Verizon chargers that are 15 years old and still work. I dont know.

Charges Stuff in the Car
|
Pros: It works. What more can you ask for?
Cons: The red light indicating its on seems unnecessary.
Needed something to charge my gadgets while in the car since commuting is a couple hours of my day between work, school, and home. Monoprice has a reputation of reliable & cheap and this charger hasn't disappointed yet.

Pros: Works well
Cons: Very cheap construction
Had a few of these & will buy more. They split apart after a year and need a rubber band to hold them together. But, they are very inexpensive and continue to work. Buy a few for replacements is my advice.

Works fine, durability may be an issue
|
Pros: Cheap, cannot beat this price. Does it's job Looks standard
Cons: Durability may be an issue (see review)
Bought a few of these and for the price they can't be beat. Have had one that I have plugged in at all times in one of my cars, and after about 6-8 months of use, the two plastic pieces that contain the working parts started to come apart. I could have caught it early and taped it or rubberbanded it together and that would have take care of it, but I just let it go. Now one doesn't work, which is my mistake.
Overall, it's good and you get your money's worth, just might recommend taping it together with clear or black electrical tape to ensure it doesn't come apart like mine did. I would recommend this to someone else though.

I am giving it 8 stars because it works fine but the plastic case around the unit started to separate. It looks like the USB port twisted a bit causing the case to pop. Other than that we use it for an extra USB port in the car to charge our phone / kindle / GPS units.

Our car already has a USB port on the radio but we use that to play our music from a thumb drive. Picked this up so we could charge our cell phone / kindle / etc. Works just fine.
One note, I did not notice that the unit has a red led on it. It is nice because it lets you know when power is going to it but the led is brighter than I thought. Not really a problem we just point the led down.

Pros: Works for a while
Cons: Then it quits working
The first one I had split open and quit working. I figured that could have been my fault. I could have hit it or yanked the cord or something. I ordered two the next time, because they are so cheap. Both of the other ones started splitting open a little, but they failed before they came apart. The red LED continued to light, but they quit charging my phone. I tried several USB cables to make sure that wasn't the problem.

As soon as i plugged this into my car charger it shorted out. monoprice sent me a new one with no questions asked and that one shorted out right away too. Since it was only a buck i didn't bother trying to get a refund. Worth the $1 risk if it will work in your car.

Got very hot and caused problems for my phone.
|
Pros: - Didn't permanently damage my phone.
Cons: - Charger became very hot. - Phone being charged exhibited weird behavior when plugged into charger.
(Sorry that I don't have a better description then 'wierd' - this happened a while ago and I don't remember the exact details.)
I bought a few of these (both the white and the black) about a year ago. I was surprised at how hot they got, but didn't let this bother me until I starting experiencing quirky behavior from my cell phone while it was plugged in. I tried a similar unit that came with my Bluetooth headset and the problems went away - so I threw out the Monoprice car chargers.
This is the only really bad product I've ever received from Monoprice - not a big deal in of itself (my phone is fine) but it rattled my confidence in them.

Short life span, no real fuse to replace
|
Pros: Cheap
Cons: No real replaceable fuse
Bought this for my wifes truck for her iPhone4s about 14 days days ago. It's worked fine up until yesterday when the internal (and non-replaceable fuse) blew with no load on it (read: we started the truck, the LED came on and then the unit went poof)
There's no real fuse to replace so once it's dead, it's no good.
I'd recommend PID 8306 as it has a hard fuse and has dual USB, but they seem to have removed the PID from the active website.

Crap for big smartphones
|
Pros: It's better than nothing.
Cons: It charges INCREDIBLY slow.
I own a mid-late 90's camry. I use this to charge my Droid X2... and it works like doo doo. 1 hour car drive = 10% charge, what kind of uselessness is that? Get a 2Amp charger if you can.
Alternatively, this may work better for dumb-phones or phones with a smaller battery

Had to repair 1 out of 4 purchased.
|
Pros: Inexpensive, works.
Cons: Questionable quality.
I recently purchased several new cell phones and needed car adapters. I bought four of these. Three worked great. One didn't work. I unscrewed the end and the spring holding the tip fell out. The adapter is easily disassembled and I found the spring had not been soldered to the circuit board properly. With a little bit of soldering I was able to reattach the spring. Now it works!

Good device
|
Pros: Does exactly what it says it does.
Cons: Could be a little shorter
This device is perfect for charging USB devices. I use it to power my GPS, Smart Phone, and MP3 Player. It works great. The only draw back is that it's somewhere between 3 and 4 inches long. I keep mine plugged into the cigarette lighter socket in the back of my front center console. Most of the time I don't have any passengers in the back seat so that works out fine. Once in a blue moon when I do have someone in the back seat, this attachment is long enough that it either gets kicked or banged hard enough to break it or my cigarette lighter socket.

Does the job
|
Pros: Does the job for less.
Cons: None
I really can't say much. It is what it is, it does what it's supposed to do and it's cheap. Buy a couple and keep them everywhere, it's very convenient.

Good Product
|
Pros: Does what it says on the tin. Cheap Works on every device I have.
Cons: I destroyed the old one.
As usual, Mono price does it again. I order one about a year ago and order another one recently. The old one succumbed to being in a moist environment of my car and had corroded some internal parts(not Monoprice's fault). I left the old one in my car rain or shine. I live in Kansas so the summers are 100+ with 80% humidity and below 0F winters. The thing couldn't be killed by the weather on the outside.
I ordered a new one. The new one has a slightly different(imho better) design. The new one is smaller and puts out more current so devices charge faster.

Poor construction quality, 2 of 4 are falling apart
|
Pros: It charges my HTC EVO in most vehicles
Cons: It does not charge my HTC EVO in my wife's Durango. The Durango's voltage is 1-1.5VDC lower than other vehicles. In vehicles it does work in, it drains the batter while connected to the charger using the Navigation app. This does not happen if I use a power inverter and a wall charger. Something about this design doesn't seem 100% right.
It is a cheap charger. I have bought four of them to stash in our cars and travel bags. I am going to buy a couple more to stash in my laptop bags and a few other bags. You never know when you will need juice and with the price of these they are too cheap to not just have a bunch on hand.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Mr. Lindner,
Thank you for your feedback and sorry to hear bout the issue you have with the car charger in certain vehicles. I have forwarded this onto our QC team for review and to look into if there is any issues with these units. The navigation does draw more power from the phone while in use but if the unit is charging it shouldn't completely drain the phone entirely. The reason I'm thinking this doesn't happen with the power inverter is because the power draw is being converted from DC to AC.
If there are units that you need replaced please let me know and I would be more than happy to issue an RMA to have them replaced. Thank you again for your feedback and being a valuable Monoprice customer.
Sincerely
Tjayi Malone Tech Support

Awesome Charger for HTC Evo 3d
|
Pros: Actually CHARGES while in use (Netflix, XM, Amazon MP3), Better than the 3 other chargers I've used before this.
Cons: A little loose fitting in the Cig. Lighter in my carit may just be the car though.
I've had several car chargers, and this one is by far the best AND cheapest.

Standard car charger for devices which charge by USB. Makes a great droid or ipod charger. Works great, no issues with quality or craftsmanship.

Nice, but not high output
|
Pros: Looks decent, works OK.
Cons: Fairly big (long). Strong spring on nose contact tends to push it out of the socket. Not even close to 1000mA output.
Can't get this to put out more than 350mA to my HTC Droid, even after modding it to look like an "AC charger" rather than a "USB charger". The USB spec says that the two middle pins are shorted (or possibly connected by a 200 ohm resistor, depending on what you read) to trigger this. Before the mod, I couldn't run the phone, the GPS and display and have the battery charge at all. After the mod, I can do that, but not also run Pandora... the battery runs down, even though it's plugged in. The Battery Monitor widget shows at most about 325 mA coming in with the display and radios off.

by ChrisK Replacement arrived today - that was fast, thanks! This one works much better: the phone identifies it as "AC charger" instead of "USB charger" and draws up to 700mA from it. Can definitely keep Pandora, GPS nav and screen going while driving and charge the battery, too!
by ChrisK After a couple of hours of driving, my phone has decided that this is a USB charger and won't pull more than 200mA out of it. I suspect that something has failed internally - the LED is also dead, though the charger is still providing power. Sigh.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Chris,
Thank you for your response and I am truly sorry to hear that it worked fine for a while then failed again. If you want to try one more time and this time have it tested prior to shipping to make sure it works good, let me know. Otherwise I can set up a return instead. Thanks!
