Needs to be wider for 12 port cover plate
|
Pros: Works great if you don't have a 12 port cover plate.
Cons: The inside opening needs to be wider to fit a 12 port cover plate.
These are great for low voltage installs. I like how the anchors are in the top more towards the middle than on the edges. This prevents bowing on the edges. Something from the hardware store will have the anchors on the edges that allow the corners to pop up when screwing on a cover plate. Adding two more anchors on these in the same spot on the opposite side could prevent any bowing. A problem I ran across with this is that it will not house a 12 port cover plate without serious trimming.

Great product, great price

When you need to mount low voltage stuff (network, speaker, etc.) in a wall during remodeling, then these are just what the doctor ordered. They're cheap and work great. Much better than using a full remodel box.

Overall good
|
Pros: Easy to install and looks good
Cons: No way to trace the cutout
these were easy to use, but the hard part is cutting out the right size hole. You can't trace the inside of the bracket because its too small and the outside is to large. They should include a paper template. Check out pictures of the product here. http://housestarter.blogspot.com/ Thanks

Great Product
|
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: No cutout template
I bought this to use with PID 4001 for my home theater cables. The bracket was super easy to install and secures well to the wall. I would definitely use this again and even find myself looking for reasons to use more of them. The only drawback is a lack of cut out template for the hole. It took a little patience and guess work but I eventually got a decent hole cut.

Pros: They wrok perfect every time, are easy to install, allow you to use and standard wall plate covers and are just flat our great for a clean setup. they fit istandard single double or triple gang box with an open back
Cons: they do require some mounting depth in the walls. if you are working with just drywally and 1*2 and then block wall this might not work for you.

Very reasonably priced. I removed the bracket from the wall several times to accomodate wire pulls. The bracket re-installed each time with no damage, leaving a professional finished appearance.

Pros: Good build quality Very secure once installed Cheap Simple to use
Cons: Monoprice NEEDS to put a cutout template in with these. They don't sit 100% flat
I'm a professional drywaller by trade, and these are identical to the ones I see the electricians using all the time. They work great, and will work in pretty much any wallboard thickness from 1/4" up to 1" or even a bit more. One gripe is that due to the fact that the tabs which hold the unit in place are in alternate corners rather than in all four corners, the bracket will warp a bit when you tighten them down, and the coverplate will sometimes sit off the wall about 1/32" on one side or the other. The ones the pros use do the same, though. Finally, there should be a cutout template included with these. It's a pain to try to get the hole straight, level, and the right size without a template especially when trying to mount next to an existing device box, where any amount out of square will easily show.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Mr. Green,
I'm glad you were pleased for the most part with our product. My apologies they don't include a cutout template and that is something that should be present to make installation that much easier. I will pass this information onto our QC team for review and to look into adding this to this product and any other necessary changes. Also if you have any future comments or suggestions we have a suggestions & feedback button on our homepage. You can also contact me via email at Tjayi.Malone@monoprice.com
Thank you again for your feedback and for your continued business, it is greatly appreciated!

by Jason Green Great, thanks. I'd like to stress that it's a great product and still very usable without a template for anybody with a bit of skill, but the template would definitely speed things up if someone was to be installing a large number of them, or if installing in an area where you can't easily get to.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Mr. Green
Very understandable and I will do what I can in trying to get this implemented into our products. I know a lot of our other wall plates include a template but the mounting brackets do not. Thank you again for your suggestions.

Monoprice should bundle the bracket with the cover
|
Pros: Price
Cons: I didn't know to order the bracket when I purchased the covers.
These are good quality products. The only complaint that I have is that when I ordered the covers, I thought that the bracket was included with the covers. So, I had to order the mounting brackets separately. Monoprice should bundle the covers with the brackets or put a note on the product description to inform the customer that they need to also order the brackets separately.

Great retrofit option
|
Pros: Easy installation Great cable clearance compared to a closed box Install anywhere (no need to be next to a stud) Sturdy construction
Cons: Warped frame may not sit flush with wall
I ordered several of these brackets, and although they are quite sturdy, all of them were 'warped' to various extents. This means you might have problems keeping the bracket flush against the wall. Tightening the screws usually fixes the issue. In one case this method did not work, so I rotated the bracket 180 degrees so that the non-flush corner would be at the bottom of the wall plate.
After the one 'bad' bracket, I began to forcefully bend the brackets to try and reduce the warp (usually across the diagonal). I'm not sure this helped much...the brackets are stronger than expected and generally keep the shape that they've been given.
Other than that, I think these are great! They provide excellent clearance for multiple incoming connections and you can place them pretty much anywhere you like (avoiding studs, of course). Near my entertainment unit I stacked several of these to accommodate all manner of video, audio, and data connections.

Pros: Great build quality Screw design to secure it is brilliant
Cons: Could use a cut-out template included
Picked up a couple of these to use with the 2-Gang Recessed Low Voltage Cable Wall Plate for running cables up to a wall-mounted TV. These things were great for installing the wall plates without a device box mounted to a stud, also making running cables in the wall a lot easier. I couldn't even find these in my local hardware stores after the fact (only single gang ones) and so I would highly recommend picking these up. The screw in design to tighten them to the drywall is MUCH better than the metal ones with tabs you bend to secure them.
Only wish a paper template for cut-out size was included (should be easy to include) as it was difficult to get the hole cut to match due to the irregularity of the plastic that fits in the drywall. I traced the inside of the opening on the wall and cut that, but then I had to slowly widen it, test fit, widen it, test fit, etc until the bracket would fit through. I template for the size needed would make installation even easier.
