Cons: None so far.

Quality product. Tried another make for same on vintage or no HDMI audio Macs. Mono price has made me a believer!

While the adapter did work without any system reconfiguration, the video suffered from a random studder. Audio was not affected. The adapter did get quite hot, just like other reviewers have commented.

Hi Chris,

Sorry to hear about the adapter having a small little hiccup you are experiencing. If this continues to be an issue and seems to get worse please let us know and we can get an RMA setup for you for a replacement. Thank you for your feedback and continued support.

Works but.... For how much longer
Pros: Transmits signal so I can watch dvd s

Cons: The connection on the USB & MDP side broke the first month I had it

It still currently works but it broke right away and I'm afraid if it gets moved too much it'll stop working. for some reason mono price cables seem to pull away at the slices and in the connections. wish I would have reported this earlier Grrrrrrrrrrr

Delicate product
Pros: Works as specified, but doesn't transmit 5.1 sound (not an issue for soundbar users). Image looks GREAT on my 42 inch 1080p LCD.

Cons: Not sure why the box where two cables merge into the HDMI is so big. The light on the box is also annoying. VERY DELICATE PRODUCT.

Had to buy a second adapter after my 17" MacBook Pro slid off my lap onto the floor, onto the left side of the laptop that had the connectors in it. Just the 4 or 5 inches to the floor was able to create enough force to break both the USB and Thunderbolt connectors on the adapters. The ports on the laptop side are fine.

Failed after only a month.
Pros: The couple of times it worked, it worked fine.

Cons: Stopped working after very little time and almost no use.

After barely a month of infrequent use (purchased mid February, has now failed at the end of March, used only a few times), the device has completely stopped working. As another reviewer states, the red light no longer comes on when it is plugged into the Mac, only flashing for an instant when contact is made and then going out, and the TV just says "No Signal". The Mac display flashes as though it recognizes that it *should* be putting out a signal, but the device isn't transferring it to the TV.

Great idea for a product, but obviously shoddy quality, at least in this recent batch. Buyer beware.

Very poor quality
Beware of really terrible quality control. First one I received worked for about a week before it failed (would occasionally work if the cable was held at a magic angle). Replacement was DOA. Replacement for the replacement was also DOA. Gave up after that.

Waste of time
Pros: Should have been great in theory.

Cons: Cheapily assembled.

Expensive and didn't work. The video on the second screen lagged and the audio was choppy. Absolutely useless. What's worse is that we didn't actually get a chance to used the product for our project until a few weeks after buying. The RMA process was an absolute mess as I had been advised my technical chat support. I was only inititally offered a partial refund and had to pay for shipping to return it. After phone calls then 3 chat sessions for being transferred around, I got pre-paid shipping labels to return it and they will do their best to refund although with no guarantees. More hassle than its worth. Do yourself a favour, buy AppleTV and use your HDTV as the second screen. Avoid this at all costs.

Good adapter BUT does not last
Pros: - When it works, it works very well
- Easy to set up

Cons: - Does not last long shoddy quality

As others have mentioned in their reviews, it works well when it works...and then it stops working. I've had mine for not quite three years. It recently stopped working. I would set it up, but the red light will not turn on and my TV just states "No signal". When I initially plug Mini DisplayPort plug into my mac, the red light quickly flashes but that's it. I'd recommend finding a better-built solution elsewhere this one isn't worth the price.

Adapter
Pros: Fast service, the exact part that I needed. I called ahead to receive a recommendation regarding what I wanted to accomplish and what I needed to have to do that. It was that simple. It worked perfectly and my hubby and I are thrilled!

Cons: None whatsoever!

The customer service I received was professional and knowledgable. My adapter arrived within a few days. I would recommend and use Monoprice again!

Awesome, until...
Pros: Easy set up.
Was able to talk to person via live chat about the product before I purchased it.
Worked perfectly with my mxacbook pro and tv.

Cons: White finish: gets dirty.
Make seems flimsy.

I purchased this product at the end of August last year. Since last week, it has been giving me some trouble. I would plug the product into both ports (usb and mini display), my macbook screen would flash blue (changing input) however my tv would still say no signal. The light on the product usually turns red when it is plugged in, however it hasn't been turning red (although plugged in properly). If I'm lucky, a few minutes will go by and it works. But clearly, the reaction time is not what it is suppose to be. I'm disappointed that it's like playing a game of chance, and I cannot depend on this product 100%

Went through two defective adapters
Pros: Worked a few times

Cons: Stopped working after a few times. Replacement was DOA.

The first adapter I received worked correctly a few times, but malfunctioned after about 5 months of it rarely being used. The adapter would initially work, but video becomes garbled beyond recognition after a 5-10 minutes of use. I RMA'd the device, and the second adapter I received was DOA.

Based on other recent reports of failures, apparently there's little or no quality control done during manufacturing. I'd recommend that Monoprice work with the supplier for this adapter to improve quality, change suppliers, or test the device before shipping to customers.

Nice while it lasted
Pros: Convenient

Cons: Did not last

This all-in-one adapter worked great at first. It was always finicky getting the audio to go through. Sometimes had to connect the HDMI cable to the adapter multiple times. Now, however, the audio never works. I am disappointed.

Does what it needs to do
Pros: Lets you send audio and video from an older MacBook to anything that accepts HDMI input.

Bought as a gift for my sister, so she could put video from her 2007-era MacBook on TV. If you can get away with just buying the non-USB adapter, get it, because it's cheaper. I have one myself, and it's great. Older MacBooks can't pass the audio along without this USB adapter though. I hear from my sister this unit works just fine for her, but I haven't held it in my own hands, so I can't speak to build quality or the convenience/annoyance factor.

Poor Audio Quality
Pros: Works as advertised. Sends both video and audio from my Macbook to my TV

Cons: Sound quality is poor.

Had to send it back because everything played through this device sounded very thin. I would rather route the audio separately if it is going to sound this bad.

Works great when it works
Pros: Works great when it works.

Cons: Durability.

Used this product for almost a year before it broke. Monoprice replaced the unit with a new one, which lasted one day. Again, Monoprice replaced the unit, and it's been working great for months now. There is apparently a bit of an issue with durability and quality control, but the unit does what it's supposed to do very well when it works at all. Monoprice provides exceptional customer service, so I think it's worth the risk.

Great Adapter
Pros: Works great, pulls audio, easy to use, price

Cons: Heat produced

This works great, out of the package it worked as advertised without any setup. The downside is that the heat it puts out caused it to melt the casing when it got trapped under a cushion. I'll buy another if it starts to be a problem though - just pay attention to where it is and ensure it has good ventilation.

Pros: inexpensive

Cons: Gets hot sometimes

Had it working w/in minutes. Have the other adapter w/no audio capabilities, so was familiar with them.
With the MacBook Pro had to go to System Preferences into sound to change, but that was it. No longer have to rely on external computer speakers to watch programs on my TV through my computer

Great Adapter
Pros: Easy to use
No setup
plug and play
long connector cables

Cons: Powered

This is a great connector - it corrected the problem of no audio on the HDMI cable easily and without a lot of changes. It was not obvious that the adapter won't work without the power - you do have to plug in the USB cable to use it at all but you can turn the sound off on your mac.

Pros: True plug and play - it worked straight out of the box on my 15" MacBook Pro 6,2 with Snow Leopard. It makes HBOGO usable.

Cons: Occasionally OS-X won't remember the external screen after the machine sleeps.

Highly recommended for pre-Thunderbolt MacBooks

Pros: Works as advertised.

Cons: Might need to try more than one.

We ordered one of these in February and it worked perfectly for 6 weeks or so. We were unlucky and got one that spontaneously died. I wrote a review about it, saying its a good item if only it would work. A monoprice rep contacted me via email to inform me that I could still return the item for a replacement, which I did. Replacement is working perfectly so far. I think this is a nice little gadget as long as its working, and I am quite pleased with Monoprice's customer service. Highly recommend.

MacBook on my TV
Pros: It just works - that's the best review possible.

Cons: I had to get a long HDMI cable (available here at MonoPrice, of course) to reach where to the laptop - and those are thick and stiff. It would be nice if this were available with a longer reach with the nice flexible cable.

This really works well. I don't use it much - for streaming Internet stuff to the TV. I was worried whether it would properly combine the audio (via USB) and video (via DisplayPort) into the HDMI signal. No problems.

Perfect for late 2008 Macbook Pro
Pros: Price is great
Ease of setup

Cons: Switching between audios

I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro that I'm trying to squeeze every last bit of life out of before I have to upgrade this cable just upped the ante a little bit more. I was disappointed when I first experienced my Macbook Pro's audio out port not working after switching to the higher graphics card (9600m GT w/ 512mb of DD3 SDRAM).
My Macbook Pro recognized this cable instantly and with a little help from the "knowledge base" tab it was easier to get it working. Now I can watch moves again with my LG 32LH40 tv. Couple this with Kingston 8GB of ram and you have almost an entirely new machine. My last upgrade will be switching to a 120GB ssd hard drive and extend my 3 year old laptop by even a few more years! My only regret with this cable is that if I want to listen to music through the laptop speakers or headphones I have to change it in the system preferences. But the good part is that I don't have to log out to do it, so it is only a minor problem.

perfect solution - excellent service
Pros: Works as good as OEM, but at a significant savings.

Cons: Not 100% as "solid" as OEM, but absolutely not "cheap" and works great!

The adaptor is not quite as "solid" as OEM Apple, but it works every bit as good and at a much lower cost. My needs were not as clear cut as some, but as always the customer service was excellent and steered me right! Sales support is outstanding, but they offer assistance even if they don’t offer the item, and I am confident that they will be there if a problem arrises.

Great product!
Pros: Works great with my Macbook Pro (4/2010). Sturdy and easy to install.

Cons: None.

I purchased this to use with my Macbook Pro, (April 2010 version), so we could watch Netflix movies, home movies, etc. from my laptop on the big screen TV. I didn't want to have to buy to separate cords (one for audio and one for video), and this fit the bill. It works exactly as I had hoped and we have had it for about 2 months. We use it several times a week. One note: sometimes if I have already had my computer running and open Netflix before connecting to the TV, the adaptor won't work. I just have to reboot my computer with the cables still connected and then once it is rebooted everything works fine. To get the audio to work, be sure to go to your system preferencesaudio settingsand select USB so that the sound knows to not come out of your laptop speakers, but to go through the USB cable and out of the TV. Works great and very reasonably priced!! Thank you!

Wow plus wow!!
Pros: I was referred to Monoprice Via the great computer site cnet.com. Quality products at a very inexpensive price and this company has done/ does it's research. I love it and happy find for a full time Internet shopper like me!!

Cons: You must know what you want. So do some research, give Monoprice a call cause I bought things thinking I needed them but LG TVs knows when you hook up a LG Blu ray player, so no need for coaxial cables but I love just having this stuff because of the quality , price and I always have extra when a neighbor needs a cable

I have been. A worker bee, hooking up or attempting to hookup all my great buys from Black Friday. I upgraded my LG tv to 42 inched. How the heck could anyone turn down, free shipping, NO tax since they are in nJ, me in NYC and a years warranty thrown in on top of the deal. Total cost $ 487 my 32" was more then that but I did hook it up with this adapter and it was like. I have arrived in the future" beam me down Spoke!" & I am not kidding. Since I got this new iMac with that Thunderbolt connection, I bought this. I have yet to tween it cause it's playing on the computer and the tv. But I still got it to work and I swear , I was landing on the MOON, when I saw my entire desktop out of the corner of my eye on that huge tv. I watched a movie that was on a hard drive cause I did before this, try to just hook up my hard drive to the USB. Port on the tv but it would not take it for some reason but I have to stop any tech stuff cause I get a migraine. But I love live Monoprice where the heck can you get these deals and on real great quality merchandise?? And or over 7 months my bluray player would skip, stop playing etc. but I was VERY patient and thought it was the DVDs. No guys!! It was that just one year old LG tv, once I hooked up the new one, everything played beautifully with the new colored HDMI ca les from Monoprice I would love live to just take a tour of their warehouse, all this stuff amazes me. Thank you to Monoprice for all my purchases and you will be seeing me and EVERYONE I know. The BESt!! Cheers.. Tony( NYC). A very happy customer

Love it.
Pros: Works Great. Decent picture & Audio on HD TV.

Cons: Had to figure out how to drag the picture to the TV & how to get the Audio on the TV to work instead of the computer's.

Great accessory for my 2010 Macbook Pro. Able to see AND Hear on any HD TV.

Worked great for the first year and a half. But recently the device has broken it self. Audio is laggy and delayed. Tried it on multiple computers and same result.
Was happy for the past year and a half though.. Guess I'll be ordering another.

Pros: Powered

Cons: None so far.

Fixed our lingering issue. We had an issue with the cheaper dongles with our 3rd monitor. Sometimes it would work, and other times it wouldn't. Since going with this powered version, it's worked every time!

Works well, a bit expensive but does the job
Pros: Gets the job done. OSX usually "does the right thing" with this cable after you've set it up once.

Cons: A little bulky... the cable itself works "as best as it can" but it sucks if you need to be using this cable in the first place.

Product review
Pros: Works well as the product is designed for. The pricing is half of what you might pay at an electronics retailer (over $100). We use it for our Macbook but Apple does not sell the product. We need it in order to have simultaneous picture and sound connection from our laptop' streaming video and movies to connect to our TV (bigscreen) via HDM1 cable.

Cons: The product design is deffective. I have had to return for exchange 2 times on the same product because when there is a pull on the cable the component comes apart. We used an electrical tape to wrap around the component so that it does not come apart. We did the same for both new units we purchased.

The design should also have a dot or a mark on the 2 input (male) usb ports which plugs into the laptop to show which side is up and which side is down.

Hello Roy,

My apologies for the issues you have encountered with our mini display port adapters. I will forward this information onto our QC team for review and any necessary changes that should be made to the item. Also if you have a newer apple that supports thunderbolt, we have item 5311 that will support audio, therefore no need for the usb cable for audio. I have posted a link below just in case for your convenience.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=5311&seq=1&format=2

Also for the usb cable, most if not all usb have the usb logo that indicates which side is right side up and that is the side you want facing up towards you. That should solve your small issue you there. Thank you again for your feedback its greatly appreciated.

Your review process is now finished. If you were satisfied with my assistance, you can always leave a testimonial at this link. You can also contact me directly at Tjayi.Malone@monoprice.com.

Great Product, but poor casing
Pros: Works exactly as advertized the television video needs to be set to a corresponding definition, which is easy to do. Also a great price.

Cons: The case is poorly constructed. The first unit I received had loose wires due the case, but was replaced at no cost. The second unit worked well for about a year, but because the pins holding the case togehter are flemsy, they eventually broke and the fine wires tore off the connections. I have ordered a new unit and as another costumer suggested I plan on taping the case together.

Pros: This hooks my Mac mini to my panasonic P50-GT25 plasma. Sends video and audio through hdmi port at 1080P.
Easy plug and play.

Cons: Big red light is bright and I don't see why it needs it.

Great inside - not a great casing
Pros: It tech inside worked great - did just as described, great picture and sound

Cons: The exterior casing broke apart after the 3rd use. I fixed it by gently placing the board back in and both in/output ports back to where they belong and then used electrical tape and looped around the case.

It's a good product, great picture and sound, but the case is not very sturdy, if they could make the cases more durable it would be perfect

Works well but falls apart.
Pros: Gets the picture and sound from my Macbook to the HDMI input on my TV.

Cons: The plastic rectangular housing fell apart the first time I plugged in an HDMI cable. The plastic pins that hold the rectangular unit together broke.

Monoprice replaced the unit without issue. However, the new one also fell apart after one use! The thing still works but I now have it held together with clear packing tape. I decided to keep the second unit since it does function as expected despite the poor quality of the plastic housing.

Overall, for the price, this is a good option for a Macbook despite poor quality of the plastic that houses the circuit board.

Doesn't work with Dell precision laptop

by Monoprice Administrator
Hello Stephen,

Thank you for your review. Before we can continue with the review process, can you please allow me to assist you in getting this item to work?

Just to clarify, what exactly do you mean the the laptop has a full size displayport? Are you already using an adapter alongside the mini displayport adapter? If so, have you tried another cable and does it work with that?

If possible, can you please try it on a native displayport to see if it'll work? Otherwise I would try a different HDMI cable as well and trying different ports on the TV.

Please let me know the outcome. Thank you!

DisplayPort apparently has two sizes the original full size and the newer mini. I need an additional adapter your product 6006. Then I also need a female to female miniDisplayPort coupler your product 6502.

I tried the Dell on a normal DisplayPort Dell display, with a single full size cable, and it works. I also tried a different HDMI cable and different ports on the TV.

I also tried the DisplayPort adapter (with the mini to full adapter) on a Compaq laptop it also does not recognize the DisplayPort adapter.

by Monoprice Administrator
Hello Stephen,

I see, I understand what you are trying to do. Using a coupler or gender changer on this item may not work correctly as 6006 is a passive cable. You may need an actual active cable for it to work correctly to the coupler then to the adapter.

For further verification I would check with Dell and explain what you are trying to do to see if it's possible or if you require active cables. Thank you!

From MacBook to Panasonic TV
Pros: At this point we have 2 of the converting Adapters and they are working well in transporting sight and sound to the TV. We use largely for wireless streaming. We had one adapter that we returned as it was not working, but it may well be that the problem was with the HDMI cord which we have replaced as it did not work with the second and third adapters and appears faulty. The adapter works well and permits exciting use of a cabin TV where reception is tough or impossible, but wireless at the cabin works well.

Pros: Works perfectly after making an adjustment to USB audio.

Cons: Adapter box gets hot.

My thanks to reviewer Architorture in Montreal, QC, whose review helped me solve the USB audio problem I had. I was getting static with my USB audio using this adapter. Just received this today. Had it up and running in 5 minutes. We have a 2-year old Mac Book pro connected to a Sony Bravia. On the pro we set the picture to 1080I and the sound to USB. When I have a sec I have to fiddle with the color a bit, however this is a fine product. We bought it because we just joined Zediva and we will be able to view DVD's on the Sony.

Best electronics purchase since the mac
Pros: Ease of use, very lightweight, can turn any tv into a 2nd monitor, works perfect.

Cons: Can get warm (and by warm I mean hot). The hdmi connector, even though it's flat, can feel bulky.

This is the best accessory i've purchased for my mac. I cut the (cable tv) cord a while ago and to be able to watch netflix on my tv without making the investment on an apple tv or a roku box the $30 spent are well worth it. Previous reviewers have complaint about flimsy assembly but that has not been my experience so far. All in all, great purchase, thanks monoprice!!

Does Not Work with older MacBook Pro
Pros: None

Cons: Does not work at all with latest firmware on MacBookPro manufactured before 2010.

If you're using this with a MacBookPro manufactured before 2010, this will not work if you have updated to the latest firmware. MonoPrice should really be more specific about which models won't work.

by Monoprice Administrator
Hello,

Thank you for your review. I just want to investigate the issue you are having, can you please let me know what happens when you update the firmwire? Does the adapter no longer work and its no longer detected or is there just issues with the adapter regarding compatibility with the latest firmware. Please let me know, thank you!

by Anonymous
After updating the firmware, the adapter simply stops working so that neither the video nor the audio will play through an HDMI cord. Apple now has an adapter they sell on their website, but even this will only work on their newer line of MacBookPros. It seems they want you to buy a new one if you want videos to play on your flat screen TV.

by Monoprice Administrator
I see, thank you for your input. I have lodged a complaint regarding this issue. Thank you.

by Monoprice Administrator
Also, I have found out you may need to reset your system management controller, see if that helps.

Resetting the system management controller has no effect. I wish the adapter I purchased would work, or Monoprice would come out with a new one that works on my 2009 MBP.

Pros: The hook up worked as hoped when I found that I needed to tell to Mac to send the audio to the USB. Then all was well, for anything on the Mac from streaming to photos and more.

Cons: We have used several times with good success. No cons at this point. The purchase was to make the connection, unless there are problems with product failure, we are very happy.

converter for mac to tv
Pros: works great
easy to use

Cons: very flimsy item. fell apart upon opening. second one came apart after a couple of uses.
no instructions that tell you to change the sound output on the computer so that the sound comes out of the tv.

I actually love this and it works great but it is very flimsy. when opening the package, it fell Apart. I had to "take a picture of the broken one" and send it back before they would send a replacement. The replacement worked great but after one use the shell opened up partially. I have now glued it closed with the hope that it will still work.
Also, they need to tell you that you need to change the sound output on the computer so that the sound will come out of the TV. This has great potential but they need to find a new manufacturer.

Poor construction
Cons: Packaging all looked good, but when I opened the package , the plastic case covering the circuit board where the hdmi cable connects came apart. no evidence of damage externally, but after examining the case,I found two of the plastic pegs that snap the case together were broken, probably when assembled. I decided to just glue the case together instead of going trough the return process. The cable seems to operate properly, just shoddy manufacturing. For thirty dollars , maybe they should use metal casing.

Again, great sharp image and audio is in sync with video.

Doesn't fill 720p screen
Pros: Does combine audio & video

Cons: Doesn't fill screen

I got this to work easily on Mac OS X Snow Leopard, but there wasn't a setting I could find to select that would completely fill my 720p TV's screen.

Poorly made, but works
The product works most of the time. Sometimes I have to restart my laptop. The make is extremely poor. The case broke open in the first 2 days completely exposing the integrated circuits. But I use it, because it works, atleast for now. Definitely not durable. I would look for a better product if I had to buy such an adapter again.

Almost the perfect solution
Pros: Work as expected, sounds great works great.

Cons: Won't let my iMac go to sleep... can't even manually put it to sleep. Dissappointed that other people are having this problem and there seems to be no solution.

Looks like a great product
Pros: Finally a way to get sound and video to my TV using an HDMI connection from my MacBook Pro. Seems to work very well after hooking it up for the first time yesterday.

Cons: None so far as long as you know that you have to switch your audio output to "USB" in the audio preferences. I wasn't getting any sound, went to the Monoprice site, and saw the "What to do if sound is still coming out of the internal speakers" topic, and fixed the problem in ten seconds.

One little suggestion that would surely save someone frustration in the future: adding a note to the packaging about the need to switch audio output in System Preferences.

Be aware
Pros: Great product to send audio and video from a Macbook Pro or Mac Pro with a mini display port to a flat screen HDTV via HDMI input.

Cons: The product itself is comprised of two plastic shell halves that house the circuit board. This plastic is very flimsy construction and the two halves that snap together broke apart due to the twisting pressure of the main cable attached to the circuit board protruding out to the mini display connector.

It does work as described, great device to send audio and video to a flat screen from a Macbook Pro or Mac Pro that has a mini display port. The flimsy plastic case that breaks apart too easily is a severe drawback considering the $30 price tag. We should not have to duct tape the plastic shell halves together to keep the product together in one piece. My low rating reflects this poor product design.

Great product!
Pros: Wonderful product!

Cons: Kind of flimsy in how its made.

Kind of flimsy in how its made. Breaks apart easily and is just as easily fixed with duct tape, but it shouldnt break like that. Maybe the glue is poor quality?

Case fell apart in the shipping box...
Pros: Works as advertised it, converts from DisplayPort to HDMI with audio.

Cons: Cheap outer case was split open in the shipping box. I thought about returning it, but it really wasn't worth the hassle, instead I wrapped it with electrical tape. Another one wouldn't have been any better, since its clearly just a cheap plastic case.

My review? Isn't that what I filled out in the pro's, con's and title? Seriously how many fields do you need for the same thing?

Good vid and audio, but has to be unplugged each time.
Pros: Works good when set up. Good picture and sound.

Cons: I cannot put the computer in sleep mode while the usb and mini display adapter is plugged in to the computer, you must remove the usb in order to put the computer in sleep mode. You must change the output setting for audio in order to get sound from your tv. Not very good for anyone wanting to jump from the couch to computer.

Over all it works as described. The only thing that really bothers me which is not described in teh item description is that, you cannot put the computer in sleep mode while the usb and mini display adapter is plugged in to the computer, you must remove the usb in order to put the computer in sleep mode. You must change the output setting for audio in order to get sound from your tv. Not very good for anyone wanting to jump from the couch to computer. So its not an on the fly transition.

not as well built as other Monoprice devices
Pros: Works flawlessly through Monoprice auto-switch

Cons: flimsy plastic box. fell apart after 1 use. needed to superglue or duct-tape it together.

Mac to TV!
Pros: Easy to use!

Cons: Had to fiddle with the Macbook just a bit. For those who don't know, this sets up your TV as a second screen. You click on the screen (on the Mac) that you want to watch on the TV and drag it over.

Automatically sends sound and picture to the TV over HDMI. Makes it *very* easy to watch TV shows (Hulu, etc) on your Mac and send the output to an HDMI enabled TV. Wonderful!!

Mini Display + USB to HDMI
Pros: Easy to set up. Had it running within minutes.

Cons: Gets VERY hot, picture starts to go in and out, then just out.

At first, I was very pleased. I set the USB port for Audio out, then plugged everything together. It was great to use my 240Hz, 42" TV as a hi-res monitor. Everything was going well, then the picture started to cut in and out. Within a couple of the first "cut out", it stayed out. When I looked at the adapter to see if the connection was tight, it was hot. VERY HOT. If this is a fluke, I will exchange it for a working model. (Monoprice is exceptionally good about that). If it's a characteristic of the adapter, I can live without it. It was hot enough that it didn't seem safe.
