Poor build quality
Pros: None

I bought two of these to connect the output from my TV (for digital programing like Netflix, Hulu, etc.) to my receiver (I had this connection running outside the wall while I was waiting for these to arrive so the cable in the wall and the two end points are working fine). The first one literally fell to pieces as I was installing it, the coupling in the middle of the jack is made up of three parts and they all separated from each other and the jack durring the install, I was able to get it back together, but a signal can't make it through both jacks, if I take one jack out of the picture and connect the in wall cable directly to the receiver or TV I get a somewhat workable signal, but the audio cuts in and out.

Hello,

Sorry for the problems you had with the Toslink keystone coupler. If you like and are still having issues with your current keystones. I can issue an RMA for some replacements to be sent out. Again my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Sincerely

Do not buy. Monoprice is great but not this product.
Pros: none

Cons: does not work. aparently you cannot couple 2 toslink cables. Works if they are just right but then move the cable and no sound.

Extremely Tight Fit
Pros: Decent quality, great price.

Cons: VERY tight fit. You will have to be careful to not damage other keystones trying to install this one. If you have extra room on the wall plate, put this one off to the side.

Would buy again, just have to be careful installing it.

Pros: Appears to be well built.

Cons: Extremely tight fit (at least in the 6-hole wall plates).

You will have to use a lot of muscle to push these into wall plates, but they do fit.

Nice product - please superglue it before you install
I bought this along with other keystone jacks when I mounted the TV and sound bar on the wall. It was easy to install and works well.

Here's why I gave it 7 out of 10: The jack is made of two parts - a white plastic piece with clips on it and a black plastic part which connects to two optical cables. These two parts are held together by a small clip. When inserting the optical cable on the outside, if you apply just a little bit pressure, the inner black part detaches. In my case, it fell into the wall cavity. Since it was behind a TV, I had to remove the 100lbs TV, fish the optical cable through the wall again and connect everything back up. I spent almost 2 hours just to fix this.

So, before you install it, remove the black part, apply superglue and put it back in.

Pros: inset to keep cables from sticking out too far and risk being bent/broken

This works beautifully! I have my tv angled enough that it could crimp the and optical cable againt the wall. This is inset and allows the optical cable to be safe from any accidental damage.

Just what I needed
Pros: Exactly what I needed to route my TV's optical output through the wall. Works great.

Works well, fits poorly
Pros: This item works well for coupling to slink cable. I am sending from my monitor to my receiver and the signal is good and clear.

Cons: The item does not fit in a keystone port if you have a filled lateral port. It would be fine in a straight line run but not side by side. I had to cut off some of the plastic housing to get it to fit next to other keystones.

Overall a good product, especially if you are doing a straight line keystone run. Be wary though of you need to put them side by side as you may need to modify the housing to get it to fit.

May Not Work Well With Dish Receiver 722
Pros: The adapter's top and bottom are the same width, meaning you don't have to worry if you have the cable top and bottom are oriented correctly to the adapter.

Cons: The tolerances could be better. It was a tight fit getting the adapter into a keystone cover because the sides of the adapter are slightly larger than other adapters I have used (RCA).

I used this product to connect my Dish receiver from an overhead cabinet in my entertainment center to Monoprice's 3x1 Optical Audio Toslink Bi-Directional Manual Switch (2946) which is in another area of the entertainment center. Then end point is to a Sony wireless headphone transmitter.

I found this product did not work with other optical cables other than Monoprice’s cables. I finally found two of my Monoprice cables that played well with the adapter. A 3’ one from the receiver to the adapter and a 9’ one from the wall side of the adapter to the switch.

I tried other brand cables from the receiver to the adapter and I could not get a signal to go through, even though I could see one (red beam). The wall side cable was still Monoprice’s 9’ one.

I tested these other brand cables on other components to the switch and they worked find. I also tried these other brand cables and these adapters between a Monoprice cable and the other components and they again worked fine.

So I think for some reason the problem belongs to Dish. I even made sure the digital signal from the Dish receiver was set to just PCM. This is a requirement for the Sony transmitter.

Dosen't Play Well With Dish Receiver 722
Pros: Not sure if this is a pro or not, but the top and bottom of the adapter are the same size. Meaning you don't have to be concerned if you have the cable in the right position to plug it in. Maybe this is a con.

Cons: Product tolerants could be better. Very tough getting it to fit into a keystone plate. It is slightly larger on the sides than other keystone adapters (RCA) I have used.

Better than described
Pros: The Monoprice disclaimer AND their online chat support both state that the coupler wil not work with the premium cables. This is not quite true. The premium cables fit nicely on the wall side of the coupler they will not fit on the room side. So , if like me, you’re trying to run a 100’ optical cable between rooms, go ahead and but the 100’ premium cable and a pair of these couplers. Just use standard cables to connect your equipment.

Cons: None

Compatability Issue
Pros: Well built

Cons: Unfortunately this coupler will not allow all Monoprice Premium Optical Toslink Cable w/ Metal Fancy Connectors to connect in the front of the coupler due to the body size of the connector.

Had I have known this coupler will not work with my existing Premium Optical Toslink Cable w/ Metal Fancy Connector cables I would have purchased the 5mm OD ones at the same time thus saving me shipping charges.
