Two-way optical connector - it works!
Two-way optical connector. This just works. I'm impressed. I have two optical sources and one receiver. This connector allows me connect both sources to the one receiver. Now instead of manually changing the white, use the switch (on this device) to select my source and play the sound through my sound system. Makes my life easy. I will buy this product again. Thanks

Use of three way switch
Pros: Inexpensive and easy to use.

Cons: Somewhat cheaply made. Optical cables fall out easily.

I had to use tape to make them stay on.

Satisfactory at best.

Not working
Pros: Price is right - but hassle to use

Cons: The switch does not read the signal from the Toslink audio cable until up to two minutes after I turn on my AV receiver

This is the second switch like this I've purchased - a largest size unit from Amazon and this one from Monoprice. Both have the same problems - a long delay before signal is read from the Toslink cable and receiver and you have to wiggle the switch to get the sound to work.

Loose Connections, inconsistent sound
Pros: Inexpensive
3 inputs
Mechanical and not electronic

Cons: Input has to be lined up precisely or no connection
Cable connections do not keep cables tight
Constant inconsistent results

Bought this thinking it was the perfect solution and after regular use it consistently fails to make an accurate connection with two inputs. The cable inputs themselves are very shoddy and hold the cables loosely, which is a departure from my normal experiences with optical cable inputs which require a very tight, locked fit. My optical cables regularly fall out of the switch as I am switching from input to input. Perhaps I have received a poor unit or a unit which just gave out over time, other people appear satisfied, but I'm not really sure how.

We have a PS3, Xbox, and DVR connected and have avoided using the Xbox input and only occasionally use the PS3 input because when a connection is made, it works fine, but lining all of the pieces of the puzzle to ensure a connection is an effort in frustration. For whatever reason, the DVR input never fails, the Xbox almost never connects, and the PS3 is 50/50.

Frustrating, because there are not many options out there for switching between optical cables.

Hello Jaialai31,

Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 2946. Now if I may ask, what optical sources did we connect? Did they all experience the same issue? Also, what length were the optical cables used here? Sorry again for the trouble and thanks in advance!

Motorola DVR & Insignia Blueray player. used the 3ft Premium Optical Toslink Cable w/ Metal Fancy Connector. No signals passed through the unit. Either direction. Bypassing the switch allowed normal signal to pass.

Hello Jaialai31,

Ahh I see.. now when you connect the cable, does it make a solid connection? Is it loose or not holding in any way? Sorry for all the questions but this will help narrow down the issue. Sorry again and thanks in advance!

Almost perfect
Pros: Easy to use, simple, effective

Cons: Plasticky, purple?

This is perfect. Any issue that others have detected are simply absent in mine. It switches perfectly. I do sincerely hope others are pushing the button back to switch...that is the only way this wouldn't work. Wife and roomie tested.

Cheap, just like the price
Pros: it's light?

Cons: Cheap and doesn't work

In an effort to have 3 of my devices, that use TOSLINK digital audio, all connect to my sound system, which only has 2 ports for TOSLINK, I bought this switch so I'd only have to worry about setting one input. However, when I tried connecting them, I never got any sound from any port. It is possible it could be defective but considering how cheap the plastic is and how cheap it cost, it would not surprise me if it was just a piece of junk. For the price I paid, I'll be paying more just to ship it back and lose more time on a chance this might work. It isn't worth it and I've found other ones that, while more expensive, have a much better creditability than this one.

I got the device and was able to fully test it. Looks like I'll retract my first impression as it does what I was hoping for. Tried all 3 ports as a source and sound makes the switch without error. Kind of wish there was a remote version of this device but manual works for now. Thanks again monoprice.

Too bulky
Pros: It works

Cons: Bigger than expected, the cable can't really lock, it feels cheap.

The switch was bigger than I expect, but the most disappointing thing was that my cable (the premium toslink cable sold here), can't really lock to the input/output causing me to have to fiddle with it a lot.

DO NOT BUY! SAVE YOUR MONEY!
Cons: Toslink connections do not stay in. The cable continues to fall out.

Incredibly disappointed with this product. Granted it didn't cost much but I'm surprised that Monoprice actually sells this.

I tried using various toslink cables but they would not stay connected to the switch. It was so loose that just breathing on it would break the connection.

However, I still love Monoprice. Just not this product.

Pros: Exactly what my audio set up needed as I use it for multiple devices into a single optical audio receiver.

Cons: It was a little larger than expected, but that dosent take anything away from its functionality or place in my audio network.

Pros: Cheap, exactly what I needed (before HDMI switches with TOSLINK were made). Worked perfectly.

Cons: After a year of use, either dust or not a firm physical mating between the innards and the input cable cause either no audio or crackling. After dust blasting and some practice, it only crackles minimally. Also, there is too much signal loss for long cable output(20-30 ft).

Great product. Great price. But only lasts a year or so. Since it isn't technically not electronic, maybe it's still under warranty? I'm either replacing it or getting their HDMI switch with TOSLINK out.
Slightly off topic, why are they called MONOprice, when they are always MULTIprice depending on if you order a single unit or in bulk???...

Failed after 1 year
Pros: Pro: Price was cheap, worked for purpose I bought it for...at first...

Cons: Plasticky, manual switching and gave out after 1 year (13 months). Originally it already had problems switching between the 3 positions but it was bearable (took two tries sometimes to click into right position where the sound didn't cut in/out).

Not much out there on the web even to do what this unit does. Guess I should have exchanged/refunded it when it was still covered. Now none of the light indicators even light up anymore. Tested my deviced hooked directly and they work fine but the switch is dead. Pretty disappointing, everything else from Monoprice has always been good and trouble-free. Hope Monoprice gets manufacturer to fix these flaws or source a different item to replace this on their catalog.

Pros: Seems well built, easy to use.

Cons: Some devices do not seem to function properly via the switch

I seem to have run into similar problems as other users - my cable box, for instance, works just fine through the switch on any port on the way to my audio set-up, but my blu-ray does not. However, the blu-ray works just fine directly. I've tried switching up cables and the like, and no dice.

It really seems hit or miss, honestly - it seems like there's something about this switch that just doesn't work properly with regards to ensuring the signal gets through cleanly in some cases.

Just opened it to use with my surround sound because it only has two optical ports. Plugged it in and it didn't work. Checked and double checked to see if its was plugged in correctly. Pros: Easy to set up and use

Cons: Stopped working with my monoprice toslink cable

This little box saved my wife and me a lot of grief in terms of switching optical cables from the back of the receiver, which is pretty hard to reach. But, it seems to have stopped working with the monoprice toslink cable I have for my Macbook pro. This cable works fine when directly plugged into the receiver, too The radioshack cable I have, that connects to the cable box works fine, but the computer one does not. At first it started skipping, and now I can't get any sound to come out. I took the box apart and to see if anything was broken, but nothing is. I might have to buy a new one, because they are so cheap, but I was hoping this one would last me a bit longer.

Loose Connections Malfunctioning
Pros: Cheap

Cons: Loose connectors (Easily fall out of the socket)
Does seem to work

I have been a long time customer Monoprice and have found many of there products to be exceptionally high quality but this is not one of them.

I purchased this switch about a month ago to switch the inputs on my receiver (as opposed to a HDMI switch c/w tosh output which costs more) and after using the product I found the connectors to be loose and just pop out even while holding the unit white I move the dial. Also it appears the outside ports (2/3) don't seem to work.

In summary I was incredibly disappointed with this product.

It's a gamble
Pros: I would rather be writing good things about this product, as the options of an optical Toslink switch are slim to nothing.

Cons: It didn't work out-of-the box. I've emailed twice with no response from customer service.

Highly disappointed that I can't write a review of how the product works - it doesn't. Cables I ordered work fine and you can't beat Monoprice for their prices. The switch, however, is a far different story. The cables connect, but the light emitted through the switch a more dim than the cable light being emitted. Perhaps I was sent one of the defective switches others have mentioned, but sorry to say I can't recommend this product, nor customer service or troubleshooting. Hope to get it resolved soon. Update to follow.

Hello,

Terribly sorry you have received a product that isn't working for you and no one has been in contact with you in regards to your issue. If I may ask did you make sure the dial was all the way depressed into the position you desired and until the knob clicks into place? If so and the unit still isn't working, it does sound like you may have received a faulty unit and I can issue an RMA for a replacement if you like. I would just need an order number to get the process started. Again my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Yes, the dial clicked into place and I know optical audio cables are highly sensitive and need tight connection to work. As I stated, I spent an hour attempting to get any one of the three output connections to work. Invoice is: 7513415. Thanks for the reply and if possible, please try replacement switch before sending.

Replacement switch worked right out of box. Thanks Monoprice! Replacement switch packaging was in far better condition than first switch that did not work. The first switch was not wrapped and box was worn. Replacement switch was packaged like an unused product. Just an FYI. Regardless, problem was handled well and I'm a happy customer. Will shop again. Great way to share a single digital optical audio input
Pros: Nicely packaged, simple and attractive design and a nice price.

Cons: It would be nice if the cables could be locked into place. They can pull out easilysay if a pet wonders behind your entertainment center and drags through your cables.

This switch is a great product for those with audio equipment with only a single digital optical input. It's not something I switch a lot, so I can't yet speak to the long term durability if the switch. Monoprice always seems to be the best choice for top quality and strong value in cables and interconnection accessories. I use their HDMI, digital optical audio and analog audio cables.

Loose connections
Pros: Works as specified when connections stay put

Cons: Connections are so loose, my optical cables fallout and audio cuts in and out.

I wish Monoprice/manufacturer would fix this obvious flaw in the product or offer up an alternative. My optical cables constantly fall out and audio cuts in and out. When cables stay in, the product works well.

works intermittently
Pros: sturdy, easy to switch

Cons: doesn't transmit signal reliably

I managed to make this switch carry a signal using two specific TosLink cables from my TV to my receiver. Any other combination of devices or cables will not work. The cables all work when connected individually from any of my devices directly to the receiver, but not when connected to the switch. I can see the red light being refracted through the output cable, so this seems to be signal distortion, not interruption.

Hello Adam,

Sorry for the problems you have ran into in getting the optical switch to work. If I may ask the dial on the unit is all the way clicked into the desired position for each source? If so and signal still isn't passing through you may have a faulty unit and we can get you setup with a replacement, I would just need an order number to get the process started. Or if you no longer have need for the item I can get a return setup for you as well.

Thank you

3x1 Toslink Optical manual switch.
Pros: These are REALLY GREAT switches at REALLY GREAT LOW PRICE!

Cons: For those who do not under stand how Fiber Optics mechanically mate, once you line up the laid over D (rotated 90 degrees clock wise) male cable connector you insert it into the female receptical and gently apply pressure until you feel it CLICK.
With that in mind, visualize a short male to female cable inside the switch. The female is the common connector of the switch so in order to change the internal male connector to 1,2 or 3 push the slide at the end of the switch lever BEFORE ROTATING THE LEVER then hold the slide and rotate the switch lever to the next position and release the slide and SLIGHTLY move the switch lever back and forth until you hear and feel the internal cable male connector mate with the selected port/connection.

The only improvements I would make would be to add a couple of mounting tabs to secure these in place so you don't have to use both hands to operate it and have more than 3 connections for the common connector to select from. Possible up to 6.

I give this produce a good solid 9 because of the limited port selections.

Pros: Works as advertised. Easy to use. No additional power needed.

Cons: On the big side.

Works like a charm. I hooked up my cable box and XBox360. I had to jiggle some of the cables at the switch and the source ports to get it working. Once it worked, no problems whatsoever.

Cheap Switch
Pros: Functions as a switch

Cons: Input is of poor quality, connector fits loosely on input. Big & Bulky, not sure if it's necessary to have it so big?

Works as described but input connector fits loose regardless of what brand of cable connector is used. Seems a bit big for its purpose and you have to squeeze the dial for it to turn. but its to be expected for such a low price. Which is why I gave this a 4.

Pros: Great Idea
Great item if it works properly.

Cons: Light plastic build.
Ports seem a little loose.

It seems like a great item, mine just came defective. I get light all the way through (though dim), but no sound.

Pros: works, inexpensive

Cons: a bit bulky

Exactly what I needed to connect 3 different devices via Toslink cables into my home theater in a box set up (small apartment = small sound system) with only 1 input. Does the job but the switch itself is a bit larger than I imagined.

best bang for the buck
Pros: It works as described.

Cons: 1) Bigger than I thought it would be
2) The switch gets finicky and might seem like it stopped working, but could be OK after wiggling the switch.

I bought this optical switch over a year ago. I use it to switch between my computer and Xbox (two of three ports used) and is connected to a cheap 5.1 system. It worked great for months, but one day I switched devices and there was no sound. I played with it a bit, but it seemed to have broken. I left it laying around for months, manually switching the cables, like I did before buying this switch. For some reason, I tried it again last week - I was thinking of buying another one - guess what, it worked! I guess that after time the mechanics get rough and need extra care when being switched.
The conclusion? Perhaps it could be a bit more solid/rugged, but it works and will last long enough if treated with care. Last but not least, I could not find any product that performed this functionality within a remotely close price, so if you're looking for an optical switch, you have found your best option here...

Great Solution
Pros: Works well

Cons: I wish the output was on the same side as the inputs. It would look nicer in the cabinet if the cords were all on the back.

I have an all-in-one home theater system. It only has one optical input. This allows me to plug my cable box, PS3, and tv into the surround system without having to purchase a new receiver. It's a $6 solution to a $300 problem. Thanks, Monoprice!

Pros: Works as described

Cons: A manual switch in a digital world

Works well and does the job it is designed for. I needed more audio inputs and this saves me from upgrading my receiver.
This is the only switch I've been able to find anywhere.
The look and feel reminds me of the audio video switches of the 80's, plastic and mechanical. Visually unappealing, keep it hidden behind equipment.

Cons: Manual switch.

Hello Lee,

Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 2946. Unfortunately, it sounds like you may have received a defective product.
Now if you'd like, I can help setup an RMA for a replacement. If you would like me to proceed with the RMA, all I would need is the order # this switch is under. Sorry again for the trouble and thanks in advance!

3 Way optical switch
Pros: Inexpensive, easy to instal and use, reliable switching, provides a convenient way to connect multiple optical outputs to one optical input (for instance, older stereo units)

Cons: feels lightweight and MAY not last long

Overall, excellent value for money. Works well and is easy to set up and use.

Great price... to be good to be true
Pros: This is the exact product I needed. I wanted a quick way to switch digital audio from device to device sort of having to buy a receiver.
- Price is really low
- Price on monoprice is a 1/3 of anywhere else

Cons: - To good to be true
- Cables pop out all the time
- Need to wiggle them until they stay connected and then don't touch them.

Only reason I gave it a 3 is because the price is great, monoprice has the lowest price by far, and a product like this is very hard to find. But it does not work. The cables don't sit in there tight, and they keep coming out. Even if you do get it in, you have to jiggle it to get it to work. The audio keeps going in and out. I had to tape the cables to the ports for it to stick, and even that works in a spotty way.

Simple but Effective
Pros: Simple design, inexpensive

Cons: May not hold up to constant use

This switch works perfectly for my application. I have 2 optical inputs on my audio unit but three inputs to switch between. I am using the switch to flip back and forth between my least used device. It requires getting up to operate, but about the last thing I need is another vampire power sucking device and another remote. I would recommend this.

Audio switch
Pros: The switch works as advertised. Easy setup.

This switch works as advertised. Fair quality and excellent value. User needs to purchase cables separately which are available from seller at a fair price. Gave it a 9 only because of the light weight plastic construction. I am not sure about durability, but it does work fine.

Optical audio switch.
Pros: Works perfectly. Simple device that expands number of inputs to receiver from multiple devices.

Cons: Strange looking, bulky enclosure difficult to place among other components.

After some thought, I put Velcro on the back of this switch and attached to the side of my components tower where I could route the cables from the devices to the receiver from the rear and side.

Pros: Price, Lightweight, universal female connections. (No certain way/guide for male connection)

Cons: Due to universal female connection male connectors don't hold in tightly. Easy to slip out. Using your durable and sturdy Optical cables makes it hard for the lightweight switch to stay in one place. Had to add a double side tape to keep in place. Switch button is tough to push in for kids.

Overall for the price, it's not bad. If it wasn't for the fact that the connectors would slip out so easily I'd proably rate it higher. You really can't store it vertically due to that and unless you're using both hands you can't turn the switch. You get what you pay for I guess. Really looking into trying the Infrared remote controlled switch in the future.

Pros: Cheap
Solves a need in a market that has few products to accommodate it

Cons: Large at 5.5" x 4.5" so not easy to hide
Purple colored, which doesn't blend in well with electronics
Connections are on both sides, which makes it hard to mount or set anywhere - spaghetti of wires going every direction.

I needed this to connect the sound from an xbox and PC to a single input on my surround headset (which in turn goes out to my speaker system).

The first unit that arrived had 1 port that didn't work at all and 1 port that worked intermittently. MonoPrice was good in that they sent a replacement quickly and without requiring return on a $6 item. The replacement works fine except for problems with port 2, 20% of the time. A little jiggling fixes it and I'm willing to live with it for now.

I opened the product up. It's nothing more than a mechanical dial that moves an internal optical wire from one port to another, extending the connection of that wire into the external port. Which would be fine if it worked consistently. The alignment has to be near perfect and it has to cleanly contact the wire being put into it. Unlike so many other monoprice products, based on my experience and others it's apparent that the either the design is inherently hit-or-miss, or the QA at their manufacturer is slipping on this particular model. I'd even be willing to pay more for something with more quality, but there just aren't very many options out there for an optical switch outside of a full receiver.

Simply does not work well. Some days it works, others it does not. Overall, I have given up on the item and need to manually switch out the optical cables to my receiver each time.
Monoprice did do an excellent job of replacing the first defective unit. The output connection would not hold the cable in place. Mono, sent as replacement immediately without hassle and didn't even require the defective to be returned.
Great service, bad product.

Easy solution.
Pros: Works easily with a manual turn of the switch. Provides perfect through put of Dolby 5.1 surround.

Cons: Would give this a 10 if it switched inputs automatically. (An HDMI switch I bought from Monoprice has this feature.)

Simple solution for an older surround sound reciever with only 2 optical inputs. I have need to hook 3 devices, optically to this amp. This switch was a great solution! Paired with optical cables of the same brand I can have optical sound from all my devices (Tv box, blue ray, Apple tv)

Cons: Ugly (to me)
Switch can be somewhat difficult to get into place (explanation in review)

Bought this to hook my PS3, Cable box and computer up to the same system. Overall, it does what it needs to do effectively. Only thing that I find trouble with is that I've got it in my entertainment center behind my stereo controller, so i need to reach in and do it by feel rather than by sight. I sometimes find it difficult to get it to click into place easily, and need to go over the groove a few times to get it to catch. Really a minor issue, and probably wouldn't be an issue if I had it in a more easily accessible place, but figured I'd let others know.

Cons: Cheap, touchy, and doesn't always work.

The greatest idea. I thought I was going to have to buy a new amp, but my Sony Dream Theater is still the best and will be. Unfortunately it doesn't always work. Have to move around the cords all the time around the connection.

Hello,

Thank you for your review. And I am truly sorry to hear of your experience you have had with this product. We will be taking your review into consideration so we can look into the PID#. Thank you for your understanding and patience in the matter.

For now, if possible, please try a couple of troubleshooting techniques with me to see if we can resolve your issue.

Have you tried a different set of cables?

What about a different set of devices?

Have you tried blowing on the cables as well as the ports? As they can sometimes accumulate dust and cause intermittent connection.

Please let me know if the problems still occur. If it does, I can assist you in obtaining a replacement or a return RMA to see if a replacement will work better. We do have a lifetime warranty on non-electronics and cables as well as a 1 year warranty for electronics. And obtaining a replacement is of no additional cost. If you want to continue with an RMA just please provide the order# and if you wanted to return it or obtain a replacement. Thank you!

Switch works
Pros: This switch has allowed me to use my current audio receiver. It only has one input for optical. This switch now gives me 3 inputs. Works well.

If you would like to have audio using the toslink optical for better sound quality, and your reciever has at least one input, this device allows you to easily (manually) switch between an A, B, C, input. So I have my cable box optical out connected to the "C" input (for cable, easier to remember). The blue ray to (you guessed it my "B" position) and of course my Apple TV to the "A" input). They all go out to my optical in on my receiver. I get very good sound using this setup. Buy the premium optical cable from mono price instead of the cheaper cable...not much more money but way better performance.

Better than BACON!!
Pros: Tastes like heaven (bacon).
Cheaper than a Ferrari.
As cuddly as a kitten's fur.

Cons: Doesn't really taste like bacon.
If you don't use this, the terrorists win.
The "1" input side doesn't fit particularly snugly, but it's not a deal-breaker.
You probably shouldn't cuddle with it. It's actually neither kitten like, nor furry. It's actually plastic, and prolonged cuddling may chafe.

HOLY 3X1 OPTICAL AUDIO TOSLINK BI-DIRECTIONAL MANUAL SWITCH BATMAN!!! I cannot believe how awesome this switch is. I mean, I've used other switches before, but this one is like taking fried cheese dipped in chocolate, wrapped in bacon, coated in funnel cake batter, fried again, then wrapped in more bacon. I know what you're thinking: if you wrap bacon in more bacon you may tear the very fabric of the time-space continuum, but I took the chance and went for it and boy am I glad I did... For starters, when I opened the box, which made me a little nervous at first because the light leaking out the seams gave it an other-wordly glow, a talking unicorn flew out who not only taught me how to install this piece of technological wizardry, but also turned out to be a Neil Diamond fan who is quite the chef ( I know what you're thinking: "how does a hoofed animal with no opposable thumbs use tools and cook food?" Just trust me. the hooves work just fine. kinda like chop sticks- they look impractical at first, but can be quite useful once you know how to use them.) . After debating whether or not Neil should open his live show with "Sooliamon" or the more rockin' "America" (definitely should be "America"), we discussed our plan to build tube technology to eliminate automobiles and whether or not non-stop rocking is possible (technically, non-stop rocking isn't possible. You have to eventually breathe in). All this talking and planning to save humanity by making hostile but oil-rich countries insignificant through the use of the aforementioned tube-technology, can really famish a talking unicorn, so he made us all western omelettes with a side of chocolate chip pancakes. Boy, were they delicious! After waking up from our omelette-pancake induced food-coma naps, we hooked this bad boy up. With the aid of the 6ft Premium Optical Toslink Cable w/ Metal Fancy Connector (don't even get me started on the fancy connector. you'll have to read my review of that piece of awesomeness), we hooked it into my PS3. The output of the PS3 was split to a pair of surround-sound headphones that need an optical signal, and the other to an Onkyo receiver that powers my 7.1 surround sound home theater. Yeah, you read that right, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,.1 speakers baby- in.my.living.room. It can blow the soul right out of your body into another dimension (that's why I need the headphones. despite not wholly believing in a "God", I'm a bit worried about the whole 'Pascal's Wager' thingy, and want to keep my soul. At least until I can find a decent price for it. I don't want to just have it blown off for free, right?) So far, the unicorn and I haven't hooked up anything to the third input/output yet. Just the headphones and receiver. We figured it might be a bad idea to use up all the ports on something that was probably made by Zeus himself. We're thinking it might be something like crossing the streams from your Ghostbusters proton pack. Don't wanna go there figuratively and literally. If you're more courageous than me (or just plain crazy), feel free to plug in three output sources and post your review here if you live to tell about it.

[TLDR works fine. my gear sounds great. the stuff about the PS3 to headphones and a receiver is true. The only issue is that the "1" input doesn't fit very snug and the optical cable could have a tendency to unplug if it's bumped or moved around. I thought it was broken because the sound cut-out, only to find that I accidentally bumped the optical cable when I was moving my headphone wires.]

Worked good while it lasted
Pros: No sound loss, easy to use, has 3 inputs, great for using if your receiver only has 1 optical/toslink input for sound. Much better sound then running your devices via hdmi to your tv to receiver(via optical). Incredible price like always from the best electronic accessory website on the planet "Monoprice".

Cons: its not an auto switcher but your not paying for that so thats not really a con, but just know that you do have to get up and manually change when u need sound from different devices.
- The selector sometimes would get stuck, a little tough to turn especially after a good amount of usage and time.
- Sometimes the connections would slip out but that was pretty rare unless the connection was somewhat tight.

While it lasted it was very convenient and a great way to get digital surround sound directly from your devices without going to PCM through your tv then to the receiver. Its a shame that mine broke, I did use quite a bit to switch from devices, but that is what this device was supposed to be made for, but for the price Im happy that it did last upwards to about a year +. While it worked though I had no real issues with this, i absolutely loved, i would have gave it a 9/10, had mine not broke from no fault of my own.

Does what it says
Pros: Connects multiple signals into one output.
Durable
Switches btwn devices automatically without touching the switch
Great item for a low cost
Blu rays, PS3, Xbox 360,compatible

Cons: A little too bulky/ wide ?
Small loss of quality in sound

I bought this product to connect my blu ray, xbox 360, etc. to my single output on the reciever. Works great and for some reason the device automatically switches devices w/o me touching the adapter. I have noticed instances where sound quality suffered but last maybe a second or two. (Maybe due to the fact I dont turn the switch for each device?)
Never the less, I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I bought 2 switches plus 2 cables AND headphones and was STILL cheaper than the price my buddy paid for for ONE CABLE!!!
Now he believes me when I say trust in Monoprice lol

I have two connected to both my xbox 360's and one for my cable box.
Ports 1 and 3 worked fine, the 2nd port was loose. I couldn't connect a cable to it, it would just slide out.
I contacted monoprice about it and they even told me to keep mine. They will send me a replacement which I should be receiving in a few days.
Excellent customer service.
I always order my cables and accessories from them and I am always 110% satisfied with their products.
Thanks Monoprice!!

Pros: A simple passive device that does the job

Cons: Cable can come loose easily

Works as expected as long as the cables stay in the receptacles. One of them is extremely loose and the cable easily comes loose. Unfortunately, it still looks plugged in, so you might miss the problem. Just make sure all the cables are seated tightly and it works great.

Optically good.
Pros: works very well for switching between different sources or outputs

Cons: single in/out side does not clip on to toslink connector all that well.

over all it works very well without any lose of signal for general HT use.

Works
Pros: It works

Cons: Ports rent on the same side, my original toslink wouldn't work with it for some reason but works on other devices., and cuts out sometimes.

It works but cuts out sometims for a second or two, not sure if its the switch or my device...

works well
Pros: works very well to accurately switch between components, so that multiple components can share one optical source

Cons: bulky and cheap

This device will help you route a signal to 1 of 3 components. For example, if you want to route an optical signal from your xBox or Bluray player to a receiver sometimes, and then switch that signal over to a different component (like a pair of headphones that have optical input), you can use this device to route that signal to one of those devices, without having to plug and unplug cables, etc. Comes in handy, and works very well. You can route to 3 separate devices from the source. Note, this is NOT a splitter…. it is a signal router… so only 1 of the 3 devices you are routing to will get the signal. A lot of people get confused, so know what you are buying.

I use this to share the audio-out from my game machine to switch back and forth between my headphones and main audio receiver. It works perfect.

Only complaint is that it is very bulky in size (think, the size of a large drink coaster), and it feels cheap. But hey, it is cheap, so who cares. Plus it works.

Cons: feels cheap

It's cheap and it works! The only downside is that it feels cheap. Oh well. For the price, I'm satisfied. So far, I haven't had any issues with mine.

Works Like a Charm
Pros: *Simple, straightforward, no power cords

Cons: *None for my purposes

I have this hooked up to switch between Optical Audio coming out of my PC and the regular audio feed from my MonoPrice HDMI + TosLink + ARC switch going into the optical of my Surround System and everything works great with no noticeable reduction in sound quality. I am using the cheaper 1.5ft cables as links though since everything is very close, so I can't say that on longer runs there would be no noticeable gain loss.

Correction, 6ft cables, PID 1419. The switch I mentioned is PID 7974.

It works, however...
Pros: - Works as intended.
- Makes switching between my Home Theater system to my Headphones much easier.

Cons: - A tad bulky.
- Unattractive color scheme.
- Needed modifications to work perfectly.

I read most of the reviews and decided to take a chance with this product for such a low price. Many people said it didn't work, but in general reviews seemed to agree that it did work but the loose connection was a recurring problem in many reviews.
Unfortunately, I received a unit which wouldn't hold the Toslink cable in the single Input port. And from the look of the box that it came in, I'm guessing I received someone else's defective unit. If I managed to prop it up where the cable was snug, the device worked perfectly. I though about simply taping the cable to the Input port, but I thought I'd give Monoprice's return policy a try.
Monoprice was kind enough to simply send me a second unit, telling me I could keep or discard the first one. However, the second unit arrived in the same battered box and again, the single Input port would not hold the Toslink cable.
Since I had two units, I decided to open one up before requesting another exchange or refund. My plan was to use one of the 3 Output ports that I wasn't using, but that was able to hold the cable properly. Well, it turns out that the Input port was simply not sitting properly inside the device. After readjusting it, it was working perfectly, and I could plug and unplug the Input cable without any problems.
In the end, I can say that I am happy with my purchase.

Optical Audio Toslink Switch
Pros: Light weight
Easy to use
Quite cheap

The optical Audio Toslink Switch is very useful to connect up to 3 optical audio signals
to one AVR. It is easy to change the switch from one player such as HD Media player to DVD or BD players.

a much needed device for those with 1 optical in on Receivers
Pros: This device is perfect for those who own receivers that only have 1 optical input.

Cons: No problems at all.

I bought this device since my 5.1 Surround Receiver only has 1 optical input, I own a 360 and a PS3 and it really helped in my situation. It actually works and does what its made for to do, I highly recommend this product.

Toslink Switch gets the job done
Pros: Works as expected. Have room for another device if needed.

Cons: Not great looking.

Needed my old HD-DVD player and new PS3 to share audio to my receiver that had no more available audio inputs. This switch along with an HDMI switcher allowed me to keep both players connected without having to buy a new receiver. The Toslink switch has to be operated manually, but that's fine. It keeps the price down, and I don't need to move it that often.

Perfect
Pros: Works great! Exactly as described.

Cons: Feels Cheap
Longevity might be an issue.

If you're like me and have a 5.1-7.1 receiver with only one optical input and more then one optical device, this is a great solution. Granted, you have to get up and turn the selector, but it's not the end of the world.

Works as Expected
Pros: Cheap and works exactly as advertised.

Cons: Port placement.

I purchased this switch to accommodate an XBox 360, a WDTV Live+, and the TV optical audio routing to my receiver. It works exactly as it should. I flip the switch to the correct port and audio comes through without any trouble. Other members of the family are used to it as well and don't have an issue.
The only thing I would have liked is if the ports were a little more shelf friendly, but I'm sure the mechanics of getting an optical signal to switch correctly AND be less "inline" would have cause the price to go much higher.

Doesn't work
Pros: None. Is Monoprice really starting to sell crap now?

Cons: You name it. This cheap piece of plastic does not work.

Was going to use this on a older receiver with only one optical input. Too bad, this doesn't work. Lights don't even come on. I've been ordering from Monoprice for years. Really makes me start to question this company.

Pros: Cheap and does what it's supposed to.

Cons: The build quality seems flimsy but it hasn't broken on me yet. For the price you pay for this item I can under stand why the build quality is kind of low.

This switch is the perfect cheap solution for people with an old receiver with not enough toslink jacks as well as newer ones that suffer from the same issue.

Works great.
Pros: Works as advertised.

Cons: All ports should be on the same side.

This works great as it allows me to have 3 Toslink outputs connected to a single input on my older receiver.

The only negative aspect is that all the ports should be on one side of the device. That way all the cables can run behind it and the switch can be positioned better. With this design, I have the 3 cables running toward the back and the one out the front takes a fast bend to run out the back as well.

As advertised
Pros: Works as advertised
Price

Cons: The first unit I received wouldn't hold the cable in the 1 side (all of the ports on the 3 side were fine)

I needed something so I could connect by PS3 and Satellite box to my receiver since said receiver only has one Toslink input and this works exactly as advertised. If I want to hear my PS3 I switch it to one of the inputs, if I want to hear the audio from my satellite box I switch it to the other. I saw in some reviews people claiming the switch worked automatically and if that's true I haven't figured out how to do it. I did have a problem with the first unit I received, the 1 side wouldn't hold the cable in, it just wouldn't lock in place like the ports on the 3 side did. Fortunately, monoprice quickly sent me a replacement and it holds the cables just fine.

Pros: It appears to work.

Cons: Seems very cheaply made. TOSLink cable doesn't stay 'clicked' in to the single output side. If I move the unit, the cable comes loose.

A good idea, seems to work (although what appear to be indicator lights on the switch do not light up). Just seems very flimsy and cheaply made.

Pros: Simple to set up

Cons: Pretty ugly (knew that going in) and on mine the In/Out port is very loose. The slightest bit of pressure will pop the toslink cable out. Since I don't want to deal with this thing popping out and having to put the cable back, I didn't mount this under my desk like I had planned.

Works fine so far. I have it plugged into my PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on one side, and an Astro A40 MixAmp on the other. Now I can play whatever I want, without annoying my girlfriend while she's in the room. Thanks, Monoprice!

Toslink Manual Switch
Pros: The switch is a great unit with a manual switch and so far works flawlessly.

Cons: No indicator showing correct position of switch mechanism

We bought this because our Blueray player only had an Optical Toslink out cable and out Home Theater (SONY) on has one in. We needed a way to get audio from the Blueray so we bought this. I have checked over a dozen stores and Monoprice has the BEST price of all of them and all the others had something close but not exactly what this unit offered which is a simple switching mechanism to choose either "A" input, "B" input, or "C" Input.

The switching is easy. There is an audible "click" as you get the ferrules lined up, but there is no indicator, which would have been nice. Sound is just like with a cable. Care must be taken to avoid breaking the ferrule. Depress the buttom fully BEFORE starting to turn the knob...this is a no brainer, but it seems that there are some that don't understnd this concept.

All in all this is a great product that I would buy again and definitely would recommend to friends. Two Thumbs up!

Works, but watch overall lengths.
Pros: Seems to do what it says it does, and is cheap.

Cons: This is not a convenient way to switch, e.g. really takes two hands.

Think it adds some noise to the cabling. It wasn't usable with a 25' link on one side and 3' links on the other, got lots of noise in the line. Was afraid that'd be pushing the functional transmission limits. I have bought a cheap powered video source switcher that also has Toslink in/out, and am using that now.

Toslink Manual Switch
Pros: Inexpensive. Solid Construction (switch 'locks' in place when switched from on port to another). A fast fix for sharing when your home theatre of other system has only one TOSLINK port.

Cons: If any, it sould be nice to not have to press the lock to switch from port to port, but that is really knitpicking! So, none!

I wondered exactly HOW they could effectively and effeciently make one of these and sell them so reasonably. Well, they did. There is one port in and three out. You can only use one out port at a time, but that is a TRUE switch. I hooked up a play station AND a blueray to my home theater. My Onkyo has only one TOSLINK so this made for a real fast inexpensive cure. Installation is so easy that my 10 year old could do it.

Simple and works
Pros: Cheap
Works

Cons: Can be a little "touchy"

It works great switching frequently between my PS3 and dedicated Bluray player connected to an older Receiver with only one Optical connector. Sometimes it can be touchy while switching (acts like neither component is selected), but moving back and forth clears the issue.

Perfect if you need a simple switch.
