They get the job done
|
Cons: Not enough contact between wire and plug.
They worked ok with 14awg wire. I guess I was just expecting more contact area between the stripped wire and the banana plug. I was also expecting the plug to somehow grip the wire's insulation, but it doesn't. The only thing keeping the plug on is the physical contact with the conductor.

Bana plugs
|
Pros: Everything
Cons: None
This style of plug is designed so that the wire inserts from the base or back of the plug. The wire is then "fanned out" or "mushroomed" at the end and the base is then screwed down to tighten it in place. See youtube for visual representation.

Just What the Doctor Ordered.
|
Pros: Price Ease of use
Cons: They did not just fall out of the bag and install themselves. I actually had to do something.
This is the first time I have used Banana plugs so I may not know what I'm talking about. But these plugs were fairly easy to install and priced right. I used 14AWG CL2 speaker wire and doubled-up. The double wires made it a bit of a tight fit but it worked out OK.
I'm sold on banana plugs because when came to connecting the wires to back of the receiver the banana plugs made it so much easier than just bare wires. I don't think I will will ever use bare wires again.

Quality at a low price
|
Pros: - Very inexpensive compared to competitors. - Easy installation - Great sound quality
Cons: none as of yet
I bought these banana plugs for simply ease of installation. In the past I connected the speaker wire directly to my receivers binding posts, after installation there was no difference in sound quality which is great. If you are expecting better sound from installing banana plugs that isn't going to happen, they are for ease of installation only. I have had mine installed for about 2 months now and have no complains whatsoever regarding the quality and performance of this item. They are serving their purpose very well, and we shall see in a year or so if they loose tension as others have mentioned, but so far so good.

Really Happy
|
Pros: High Quality Great Price
Cons: Had to wait a day for them to be shipped to me
Monoprice has done it again! Super high quality, and at the right price. Even adding shipping, makes these much less expensive then purchasing retail. I went to a chain called Worst Buy, and they wanted $17 for a set of two (4 plugs). Then I went to another chain called Ham Shack and they wanted $10 for a single set (2 plugs) and the quality was not even the same. I also went to another huge big box chain called House Depot, on the off-shot that they might have a decent price, they did not, and the quality was low.

Good and could have used some written direction
|
Pros: Inexpensive. Have worked since installation 6 weeks ago without any problem.
Cons: No written direction for connecting to speaker wire. No hole or slot which is why they are less expensive.
Plugs work perfectly AFTER I called to figure out how to connect the wire. There are no connection holes or slots on these. You must fray the end of the speaker wire and screw the top back down onto the base of the plug. Not very hard to do. Not as obvious to me as it might have been with a little written direction included.

Pros: - Simple design - Work great - Easy to setup
Cons: None, really.
I bought over 50 of these to wire up surround in two separate rooms and to install them for each cable going through the walls/ceiling to the speakers. They were really simple to setup and use, and the work great.

Pros: good Quality,Great price, On time delivery
Cons: non
I've been wanting to change my pin type connectors on my 14awg monster speaker wires for a while now, but could not see paying the price the the big box stores wanted. I saw these and decided to give them a try. They arrived on time, the Quality was as good as the same ones i was looking at. Hook up was a breeze and my speaker wires going into the back of my home theater are much neater looking and not crowded like with the pins

So much easier to connect!
|
Pros: Great quality. Great price. Easy to install. YouTube video instruction very helpful.
Cons: None
These plugs are great. Some of the components to my home theater system had great wires but no plugs on the ends. It was hard to try to wrap the wires around the posts and screw them down and get them to stay in securely while I tried to rearrange the components correctly on the shelving unit. Once I installed these plugs, I no longer have to worry about them coming loose! The YouTube installation video from Monoprice was very helpful to me, since I had never installed plugs before. It was as easy as it looked! Sounds great. Will never mess with plain wires again. Plugs are the way to go.

Good Value. Works great!
|
Pros: What's to say? There banana plugs. They are nicely gold plated and make hooking up 7 channel receivers much easier. Especially nice when you have to phase a channel as they save you from having to swap the screwed on connections at the amp. Just pull them out and swap the end red for black and plug them back in. What a time saver. I use them on every job.
Cons: None
At this price I use them on every job. Time to order another 50 sets.

If you have good speaker cable then these will work splendidly. Speaker cable with many very fine fibers work better because the screw in top is so snug. Use good quality speaker wire and you will love these plugs!

Nice solid feel but the tips don't hold after awhile...
|
Pros: They are have a nice solid feel. The overall quality appears good except for one severe design flaw, the tip!!!!
Cons: The tips lose their tension over time causing a poor connection.
I installed these on 5 of my speaker and amp connections a few years ago. I took the time to solder the speaker wire to the plug for a more secure connection. They installed with a nice secure and tight feeling when I orginally plugged them in to the amp and speakers. After a year or so I noticed that they no longer held tight. I emailed Monoprice and they sent me replacement plugs so I replaced the tips on all of them. It has been over a year now and the same problem has occured again. I was calibrating my speaker levels when I noticed the left surround was down by @10db from normal. When I checked the connection on the amp and speaker I realized the banana plug tips were loose and barely holding. I tried to spread the tip using a screwdriver but as soon as I inserted it back into the speaker it lost its tension again.
These are overall nice banana plugs but the tips tension doesn't last and that is enough reason to not use them. I have no choice but to replace all of them with a higher quality plug. I have bought many excellent products from Monoprice over the years but these are horrible and should be avoided.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Beekermartin,
Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 2801. A shame these didn't work out for your needs.. Now if you'd like, I can help setup an RMA for a return. If you would like me to proceed with the RMA, all I would need is the order # these banana plugs are under. Sorry again for the trouble and thanks in advance!
Regards, Jonathan Arteaga Tech Support Associate ------------------------------------------------------------------
by beekermartin I already rma'd them once. You were kind enough to send me a brand new set. All I needed was the tips though. The replacement tips have already worn out the same way the original ones did. I've ordered replacement banana plugs from Amazon made by GLS audio. They are much more expensive than the monoprice tips but I am hoping they solve the problem.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Beekermartin,
Ahh I see.. completely understandable. Sorry again for the trouble and hopefully those work out for your needs. Now should you happen to change your mind, just let us know! My apologies again for any inconvenience and happy new years!
Regards, Jonathan Arteaga Tech Support Associate ------------------------------------------------------------------

Pros: 10 - These worked so well, I ordered a second pair for the other speaker - lol! I sure felt stupid when I realized that I only ordered enough for one channel. They really did fit my need and allowed me to hook up my audiophile cables with spades conectors to my new A/V reciever that only accepted banana plugs for that gauge of wire. The cost was almost free. Way to go Monoprice!

Pros: Good price. People on phone knew the product line well, a good surprise. Shipped promptly. Too bad US snail mail is so confused about their job. However, items did arrive in reasonable time. Will buy again from Monoprice.
Cons: Overnight from LA to Northern CA takes two full days plus a 1.2 day on each end. Not a com - Could use an order reminder/catalog or something to remember them for connectors and cables.

closed screw banana plugs
|
Pros: The whole of this plug is great along with the price
Cons: none
This plug is great. There should be a clip of some type on banana plugs to hold them in so they wouldn't accidentally get pulled out of what it is plugged into. It also seems rather primitive the way the wire has to be spread apart when it is put into the plug. This is no fault of this plug however. I'm a fan of Monoprice.

Excellent Product
|
Pros: *Easy to Install *Inexpensive *High quality product *Idiot proof
Cons: *None
Initially I shorted my receiver trying to hookup my system without anything due to one out of sorts strand on my 14 gauge speaker wire on my brand new Onkyo receiver. It was under warranty and was repaired free of charge, but I had to go into queens to the closest Onkyo repair shop. All this could have been avoided with these awesome banana plugs which were super easy to install and made hooking up my receiver amazingly quick and easy. I would recommend them to the expert or the novice installer on any stereo/surround system. The price makes them a no-brainer to get. Order them now if you need them.

The perfect fit for speaker/amp binding posts
|
Pros: - Look great - Inexpensive - The best electrical connection for speakers and amplifiers using appropriate binding posts - Quick and sure connection/disconnection
Cons: - Some have complained that thick, "audiophile-grade" wire won't work with these. If you are morally convinced that such wire makes a difference beyond lightening your wallet, I commend this article to you: http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/03/audiophiles-cant-tell-the-difference-between-monster-cable-and/ If you find that article of no value, I wish you luck.
To the neophyte, the method for attaching the wires might not be immediately obvious. Monoprice has produced a short (6:25) video tutorial to show you how to do it for different types of banana plugs, but it took me a little while to find. I'll link it to the review.
(Note: the instructions for the close-type banana plugs begin at 2:00 in the video.)
Well built and good-looking. I have completely ceased to worry about stray strands of wires shorting between terminals. I do occasionally like to swap out speakers for comparison, or for demos to friends, and nothing makes the process faster.

I may have reviewed this before, but every time I need to add a speaker I use these. I've had about 20 sets by now and have had only two plugs go bad. Great price, great sound, only a slight warning is needed. Installation is also pretty simple, just make sure you leave about 1/8-1/4" of wire protruding (less for a heavier gauge).
For the warning... when these go bad, the metal protrusions on the side (where it contacts your plug receptacles) gets pushed in and no longer makes contact, meaning you won't get a connection/sound. This happened on the one speaker that I frequently had to unplug from a tight space to move some other electronics. So, if you find yourself thinking about working in tight conditions and plugging/unplugging these a few times at a slight angle, do yourself a favor... save on shipping and throw an extra pair on the order. The colored bands are removable and the plug tips screw off, so it is very easy to swap in replacement parts if you have them.

Easy to use too - I would recommend closed screw type to anyone looking to add banana plugs to clean up home theater equipment.

They're banana plugs
|
Pros: Good build quality. All gold plated. 3 separate pieces that thread together.
Cons: For some reason the tips keep wanting to loosen up. No biggie..just screw them back in.
Unless you own $20,000+ speakers, I don't see any reason to pay more for banana plugs. These things just take a few minutes to install, and it makes speaker hook-up so much easier. I've had no issues with audio quality, and I love being able to swap out speakers with ease.

nice heavy-duty speaker plugs
|
Pros: Very sturdy and heavy speaker plugs Forms good, strong connections to your speaker wire Provides a little 'bling' to your speakers
Cons: Closed screw type plugs take some time and finessing to attach the speaker wire, especially with heavier gauge wire. But that what's also really 'locks in' the connection.
Great product, and great price from Monoprice. These plugs are dense, and feel like high quality pro-grade plugs. These actually might be too heavy if you're using smaller gauge wire. Looks great on the back of your speakers, and of course makes it super easy to connect to your receiver/amp.

Pros: Gives my system a clean look that I wanted
Cons: Opening not large enough for the 12 AWG Oxygen-Free speaker wire (PID 2789) that Monoprice sells. Had to remove more of the jacket on the wire that I thought I would have to.
First time I have used banana plugs and I wish that I had used them sooner. I never did like screwing bare wire into the terminals. Now I know I have a solid connections to the posts on the receiver and speakers.

Great Banana Plugs
|
Pros: Cheap, easy to use, look great and they work.
Cons: None
After using these I would NEVER go back to twisting wire around or through a post. My surround system looks professional and a lot neater with these banana plugs. So easy to hook up my speakers. Highly recommended.

I bought these thinking they were just like the Nakajimi plugs. You have to solder these as there is no set screw to hold the wire in place.

Not really designed for 12AWG cable
|
Pros: Looks nice, works very well with 16AWG cable.
Cons: I wouldn't say this is meant to be used with 12AWG cables. Might want to look for another plug design.
When installing connector to 12 AWG folding back individual strands around the connector (as required for proper installation) makes it too thick to screw on the top half of the plug. Had to just fold wire in on itself and forcefully screw the plug together eventually with the use of pliers. The outer copper coating of cables gets stripped and a good connection can't really be guaranteed in my opinion.

Good stuff!
|
Pros: Good quality strong, tight connections.
Cons: Feels like the connections, though pretty good, could "grab" more surface area of the wires. The way it is designed, only the very end gets pinched together, which is probably sufficient, but I like more surface area on my connections.
Highly recommended- don't buy the ones w/ the screws, they strip very easily.

Worked Great
|
Pros: These banana cable ends worked great. Pretty easy to put on and make connecting to my receiver way easier than without them.
Cons: Was a little tricky to get my cables to fit in the ends. I think it's cause my cables were older and the strands were rather thick. But in the end it worked fine.

definitely good for the price
|
Pros: nice clean look, sturdy build quality, have colored L/R markers on them
Cons: 3 piece design(?), wish it was only 2
good connectors, my only complaint was the 3 piece design where the banana plug itself screws into a base, as well as the bottom part where the speaker wire also enters screws in. just seems like a risk of something becoming loose over time. But great for the price! The wire itself gets fanned out over the ring of the base (similar to monster banana plugs), i prefer that over the set screw type. I would definitely buy more of these if needed vs paying 3x the price for competitors.

Just as described!
|
Pros: Inexpensive, but not cheap. Sturdy manufacturing
Cons: Takes a little learning curve to make sure the wires are tightly held, but once you do a few, it's no problem at all.
I was very impressed with these banana plugs, especially for the price. They look just as good as the ones you could buy at the local home improvement store, for a fraction of the price. Every time I walk by them in the local store, I laugh to myself, because I bought my whole set (for a 7.1 surround system) for not much more than it would have cost for maybe 3 or 4 pairs.

Pros: Look great, keep the exposed wire clean and in good shape, easy release connect without sacrificing sound quality.
Cons: None.
This is a great connector if you want something clean, easy release, and although people swear that raw wire to terminal is the best sound, you would really need a bionic ear to hear it because I certainly don't. I've been a sound fanatic since birth and they clean up well and do the job great.

Pros: Good Solid Connections. Make moving speakers and setting up/ tearing down so much easier.
Cons: No hole to guide the wire through so makes for abit of a pain to connect to speaker wire.
