Nice Cables!
I actually chained 3 of these together (18 feet total) and I was still getting good transfer rates and consistent operation!

Good Cables
Pros: Pretty good cable for the money. It works and it feels like a pretty good quality cable with exception of the one thing listed in cons.

Cons: I ordered 3 of these cables and one of them has a slightly bent edge on the female metal plating. The cable still works fine but it is just a little odd having that there. The cable is a great deal on Monoprice anyways so I can live with it.

Overall great deal for the product. I got what I needed, which is functional USB extension cables. They look great and so far work great.

Monoprice Cables are Great
Pros: Nice cables. Great Quality and price.

Cons: None

Every time I get cables from Monoprice I am impressed with the quality. I've spent much more on cables in retail stores and the quality is not even close to the quality of Monoprice cables. I recommend Monoprice to all my friends.

Does not work with my HGST 2tb external hd
I got this to use with my external hard drive on my desktop so I don't have to keep bending down and plugging it in the back. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. I bought a few cables and they don't work. So if you're going to use this for external hard drives..probably better to use a shorter length.

by Monoprice Administrator
Hello,

My apologies for the problem you ran into with the USB cable. Its a possibility that you received a defective one. If I may ask were you using this in conjunction with a another cable or strictly from the external HDD to the back of the PC? If you like I can issue an RMA for a replacement I would just need an order number to get things started. Again my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Sincerely

I got the extension cables so it I had to use the supplied hard drive cable in conjunction with this cable. The hard drive works fine when I plug it into the back of my pc directly. But when using the usb 3.0 extension cable, my pc will detect the hard drive in device manager, but I cannot use it to access or store any files, since it doesn't show up in My Computer. Sometimes my PC will prompt that I need to format it first. Would a shorter cable solve this? But 3ft is too short still..

by Monoprice Administrator
Hi,

That is odd it should definitely allow your drive to show up on the computer. I know you tried all of the cables you purchased, does it make a difference on which port you plug into? It's possible you received a batch of faulty cables and can always try some replacements if you like. I will also ask our Product Team to look into these to make sure there aren't any issues. Sorry again for the trouble you are having.

Thank you

Tjayi

Sorry I didn't realize you responded back..but It doesn't matter which port I plug into. Also, the cable works fine as a USB 2.0 extension, but not as a USB 3.0 extension. Not really sure what could be wrong.

by Monoprice Administrator
Hello,

Thanks for the information. By chance are you able to try the extension with any other device even a mouse or keyboard, etc. that way we at least can see if the cables are functional or happen to be faulty. If so perhaps the enclosure is picky on the type of cables used. If this doesn't help I can always get some replacement sent out or issue an RMA for a return if you like. I would just need an order number to get things started.

Thank you

Hi,

I understand and unfortunately it would be the same length you currently have since we are only able to process returns for the same like items. So I can process replacements or a store credit which can be used towards shorter lengths if you want. Please let me know.

Thank you

store credit would be great then. thank you!

Cons: Didn't work.

I bought this to move my hard drive enclosure farther from the computer. I have a Vantec NexStar MX hard drive enclosure, model NST-400MX-S3R. It uses a USB 3.0 connection and comes with a 3' USB cable. I am connecting it to a Apple late 2012 27 iMac which has four USB 3.0 ports. The enclosure works fine connected to the iMac using only its 3' cable. I ordered the extension cable so that I could move the enclosure farther from the iMac. When I used the cable the connection was very poor. The Vantec keeps trying to connect and the iMac repeatedly posts an error message saying that the drive was not ejected properly.
I contacted Monoprice support and was told the following:
"Thank you for contacting us at Monoprice.com. In regards to your inquiry, usb 3.0 can be very touchy about cable lenghts and best to use under 6ft if you are using a longer cable or extension cable then you can run in to such issues."

Been using this to connect a far away WD USB 3 external drive to my laptop's USB 2 port. Works like a charm going 3-2 and I hope it'll keep on going 3-3 once I upgrade.

Awesome
Pros: It's a solid extension that does not take away reading or writing speed from my usb 3.0.

Cons: None

Bad cable
Pros: Works great before it gone bad

Cons: Speed is horrendously slow.

Speed is horrendously slow after a month of usage, replaced the cable purchased from another vendor, speed restored immediately. I suspected it was the cable causing speed slowness, and it turned out I'm right.
