Good quality, no bend
|
Pros: Looks great, no ferrite cores
Cons: No bend
I love the look and sturdiness of this HDMI cable. I don't like, however, that it is so sturdy that there's almost no bend within a few inches of each end. In a 12 inch cable, only the middle 4-6 inches has bend to it. I bought this to span a small gap, but couldn't use it because it would not bend right.

not useful for us
|
Pros: heavy duty construction
Cons: too stiff for most uses
The length might work for us, but the cable is just too stiff due to the braided jacket. it's so stiff the even two components stack on top of each other would be able to use it if one of the HDMI ports was flipped since you can't twist the cable.
too cheap to bother returning, but for now, totally useless for us.

Great for cleaning up cable clutter!
|
Pros: High Quality at various sizes for cleaning up cable clutter!
Cons: I wish that these cables came in more colors for tracing out where the go!
This is a review on many products that I bought from Monoprice that Mononprice offers for Home Theater people like me that needs to clean up and organize my messy cable clutter. Monoprice offers a lot of very good quality different sizes HDMI and optical cables for that purpose, and with all the different sizes that I bought, I really cleaned things up a lot on my setup. I have only written one review on all of these products because of time restraint, but copied/pasted this review into each product size that I bought. Each product is very high quality, but the fact that they come in so many different sizes to clean up and organize clutter is a really big deal to me!

foot long cables
|
Pros: works as long as you hook them up in the right direction
Cons: they appear to be directional though not advertised as such, so beware. My guess is that the manufacturer did not let monoprice know that these are directional cables...they are not labelled as such, but I had to hook them up in a certain direction for them to work....
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Avitto,
Only our Redmere cables are directional, did you verify that you used the same ports when you reconnected them? Thank you!

Does Not Work

The Piece I got does not work so nothing to write other than never buy again from you all
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 4963. Now if I may ask, do you get bad a bad picture or no audio/video at all? What HDMI source are we connecting here? Have we tried a different source to see if the results change? Also, has this been the case since you received it? Sorry again for the trouble and thanks in advance!

a little short
|
Pros: it works
Cons: its short
This cable is 12" from end of connector to end of connector - so it is actually a 9.5 " cable and because it is so stiff - it isn't so easy to connect 2 stacked components without having one shake loose if it is moved around. E.g. my cable box is on top of my receiver and I thought this cable would eliminate a bunch of cable mess on the shelf - but I wish i would have gone with a 1.5' cable.

Great cables, but very inflexible
|
Pros: Short, heavy cables to get the job done.
Cons: Almost impossible to do any bend except for a basic "U" shape or keeping the cable straight - go with a thinner cable if you need to bend it around anything.
Solid cable!

Great price, but..
|
Pros: Great Quality Price is cheapest around tough
Cons: Not very flexible
The cable is made very tough, but maybe a little to tough. It is hard to bend and hard to manage. If you are planning it to be flexible, this is not for you.

Cable is way too stiff causing plug to fall out of socket
|
Pros: No RF chokes Short length
Cons: The cable is ridiculously way too stiff for this type of plug. This almost caused a damaged socket on a monitor due to the fact the connector is too fragile to support the tension the cable places on it.
I needed a very short "jumper". I can't believe this is even sold since there is little way it could work without either falling out or damaging the sockets.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello videobruce,
Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 4963. Unfortunately, it is a 24AWG HDMI cable and these tend to be fairly large in diameter. Sounds like 28AWG HDMI cables may be better suited for your needs. Such as PID 3872 (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024008&p_id=3872&seq=1&format=2&qs=forum), will be your best bet! Now if you'd like, I can help setup an RMA for returning this. If you would like me to proceed with the RMA, all I would need is the order # this cable is under. Great Cable But Length on these are an Issue
|
Pros: Better picture quality especially with longer cables.
Cons: Cables are very stiff, rigid. A rubber insulator prefab cable would be much better than multiple 24 awg possibly Teflon coated cable bundle. I've designed cable systems and know the ins and outs of the business these are great cables but could be better and more flexible if cables were extruded all together with a more flexible insulator.
Beware although these are 1ft long in actuality they are effectively about 4-6 inches at best in reach when you take the rigid bend radius and minus the 6 inches required for the connectors.
I'm going to have to get the 2ft 24 awg cables as these are not long enough to reach my devices where the 28 awg's would have.
Bend radius is limited due to rigid cabling structure otherwise these HDMI cables are fantastic and work very well. If you use a cable management system make sure to give yourself extra cable length to handle the bend radius limitation and the connectors take away about 3 inches on each end. I noticed much better picture quality over the 28 awg cables but I have a very good eye and am used to looking at picture and sound quality you may not see the difference but it is there.

Pros: price- it's cheap!
Cons: being a foot long it doesn't have enough flexibility for what I wanted it for. Hooking up a hdmi matrix to the cable box under it. Ended up using a 3' cable I had laying around.
It's cheap and it works, just not for what I needed it for

Too stiff
|
Cons: Too stiff so unless you are using it in an area that it can be kept straight this is not the cable for you.
I wanted a short HDMI cable since I didn't have a lot of space to hide any extra length. I've never had any problems with any of the cables I had bought from Monoprice in the past. This cable is so stiff you can't even get it to make a gentle curve. Rather than exchange it for a different cable I just have the adapter it's connected to out of place of where I wanted it to be. Luckily it is mostly hidden but not as much if I had been able to have the cable curve even slightly. I don't recommend this cable due to the stiffness as it limits functionality.

Pros: look really well made and rugged
Cons: the 1' to 3' lengths are too thick and stiff, and if you are using them with small splitters, everything will go every-which-way as the connectors won't line-up with the jacks.

Great Cable
|
Pros: Great cable. Excellent quality. Low price.
Cons: Very Stiff and because of how short it is, it can easily get disconnected if you move components around.
This is a great quality cable at an excellent price. Because of the gauge, it is quite stiff, but this would be expected.

W0w these are thick, un yielding..
|
Pros: Industrial strength, work like a charm.
Cons: You need a full inch and 3/4 from the wall to allow these to sit cleanly. These are what, +2/+3 awg of the standard and yet they are so inflexible.
I'll be returning the 1', as I figured that it would not include the ends in the measurements (why?! haha who knows). So 1' is too short and 2' is too long, but those i'll keep.
However I'm going to have to space my flat screen out to get the cables to sit there without duress. They are very large and again you need almost a full 2" of clearance since these things are so burly.
Rec's: give us a 24awg HDMI cable that is actually pliable. These really don't fit well anywhere that I intended them, really hard to run clean if there is excess. And there needs to be a 1 1/2' option. 2' is just too big and the 1' of maybe 9" of cable the rest connectors, is too small.

Very Stiff Cables
|
Pros: There is nothing inherently wrong with theses cables or the quality. They just aren't very friendly if you're trying to put together a nice clean component stack.
Cons: Stiff Trying to bend it is like trying to bend a carrot that's been sitting out for a couple of days.
These cables are **very** stiff. I had to ditch them and buy more flexible ones. You should allow at least 3 inches of clearance behind your equipment for installation against walls etc. Also when connecting to other components they are very difficult to bend much more than the radius of a coffee mug so plan for lots of room and if you have a small blu-ray or dvd player the cables will actually move the player if there is any tension. The stress on the connectors may cause the connection to come loose or unplugged.

Be Careful What You Wish For
|
Pros: Great cable.
Cons: Might not be what you think, see below.
Be sure when buying to realize that one foot is the length of the entire cable including connectors, not just the length of cord. That means the actual amount of cord and the amount of play are closer to 6 inches than to 12. When bending your cord horizontally or vertically, you will lose distance and may find that an 18 inch or two foot cable is needed instead.

HDMI Cable way to ugly
|
I ordered this HDMI cable from MonoPrice after talking with their sales rep who strongly recommended the higher gauge wire for performance reasons in a 15 foot run. When I received it, it was so thick and had an ugly exterior mesh around the cable that it made no sense to use it since it was visible (not in the wall) in my installation. It wasn't worth the effort to return it, so it just went in my pile of unused cables.
I talked to a MonoPrice rep after this and ordered the lighter gauge cable. It worked just fine and is much more visibly attractive.
I would not use the heavy duty cable unless it was in-wall or completely hidden.

Great Cable
|
These are great cables, I suppose the only issue I really had with them at all is how sturdy they are! I planned on using this short cable to connect two devices that were right on top of each other and this cable is anything but flexible.
I can't really complain about something like that however because the build quality on the cable for this price is absolutely remarkable.
Another great purchase from monoprice.

Good cable / Too stiff for some purposes
|
This cable certainly appears to be of high quality, but it turned out to be of a little too high gauge for my puposes (to use in conjunction with a 2x1 HDMI switch): it is so stiff that connecting it between a device (HD DVR in my case) and the HDMI switch sitting on top of it without exceeding a comfortable bend radius is difficult (and I may in fact not have been successful since I'm seeing a few random "light spots" in the picture, usually an indication of dropouts caused by a partially damaged cable). The identical cable connected between a different device (WD TV Live Network Media Player) and the HDMI switch has no such issues. MonoPrice should consider offering a smaller gauge (28AWG?) short flexible cable for use with its HDMI switch.

Works great, very stiff
|
Works great with a brand new Sony 350 BluRay through a monoprice HDMI switcher. No HDCP issues, works great at 720P.
Be warned, 1 foot end to end is not very long at all when you inlude the connector ends. This makes for a very stiff cable.
I used an old hairdryer to heat them up and then held them in the correct orientation. They cooled and held their shape. Little to no strain now on the PCB HDMI connectors.
You could really damage an HDMI component input if you tried to bend it into a 180 degree horseshoe shape while attached to components.
I would seriously suggest the Monprice HDMI right angle socket savers with this product if you dont do the hairdryer trick.
