Slight hum, AM radio sound at night
|
Pros: It is well made. Other cables seem to get loose and don't carry two channels after awhile. This is solid.
Cons: I can hear AM radio through the speakers when I use this 75 foot cord.
I am using this to wire a home theater PC to rear speakers in the back of my bedroom. 75 feet helps me go around the room, rather than across the floor. At night when the sound is off, PC is off, (computer speakers plugged in), with this long extension cord, I hear AM radio noise very faintlyenough to keep me up. I've isolated the problemand it's the extension cable, not the speakers, power source, or PC (which gives only a slight hum, rather than AM radio interference). I may try to move the cable away from whatever metal wall plates, power sources, etc, but I think the long cable just picks up some interference. A shorter cable worked fine without AM radio (5 feet).
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Glad to hear the cable has been working out for you for the most part aside from the slight intereference you have been getting. As you mentioned I would first try and move the cable away from any items that may be giving off EMI or RF interference. If that doesn't seem to quite resolve the problem we do have a premium gauge 3.5mm extension cable which is much thicker than the standard cables which may help with the noise you are currently getting. PID 5594 would be the cable to consider and I have posted a link below just in case.

lengthy cable
|
Pros: length and price
Cons: slight humming when no audio playing
I got this to allow audio connection in various areas outside of my house. Wireless wasn't a good way to go so I got this to help connect to my inside audio system w/ computer that also controls my outdoor audio. When movies or music is playing it works great, however, almost certainly due to the length it does emit some noise when nothing is playing. I'm able to easily power off the audio when not playing so it's just a minor set back.

No issues with sound quality or attenuation even at 75ft. I guess the heavier gauge option was not necessary in my install.
