Monoprice Rules the Cable World
|
First time customer: Monoprice was recommended to me from a reliable online site known to many tech and computer savy customers. Their Quality of products, Selection and Service is 2nd to none for the price. It would be a mistake to buy Audio, A/V, Computer or Network cables (etc) without first checking out Monoprice.com

Competent well made cables
|
These audio cables are built to quite high standards especially given their selling price. The RG-59 coax cable used provides a noise free and precise connection between your gear. The connectors are nicely gold plated with split centre pins. The finger grip part are molded plastic and do not allow you to screw back to look at the soldering but hey the cables are inexpensive... They could be made a little tighter to fit a bit more firmly on the plug ins but where ones may seem a bit loose I just squeezed the ends with either my finger and thumb or a pair of pliers (I wrapped the plier with black take to not mar the ends). It was not much of an issue but some may want to tighten the ends up to get a more firm push on the connections.
As for sound, look many listener get caught up in esoteric cables. I was walking down that garden path a long while ago. Commonsense came back to me and I learned that as long as a good quality cable was used (again RG-59 in this case) with solid fitting and tough ends the sound should be more than enjoyable and of proper capabilities. One can go hog wild and buy high end, expensive cables, fine that is their money, but reality says they ain't gonna get much more for their cash than these cables will give other than a more pretty cable.

All youll ever need
|
Ha, Ha, Ha!! I have to laugh at the comment about these cables not being hi-fi quality. Where do these idiots come from? I swapped these out for a set of Wireworld Oasis cables (definately hi-fi quality) and guess what? NO DIFFERENCE. NONE. NADA. The Wireworlds cost $79.00, the Monoprice cables cost $2.50. I could rewire the entire neighborhood at this price.
Dont listen to know-it-alls and psycho audiophiles who claim cables can give you chocolatey midrange and toe-tapping drive. Its all a bunch of marketing crap.
Thank-you Monoprice for delivering high quality products that work well and are wonderfully priced.

No different than big name cables
|
These are quality connectors. nice tight fit and thick build. After a year with them I decided to try to upgrade, kind of a test. Went to Kimber Kable PBJ, which may be $75-80 a pair and I could hardly tell a difference, maybe slightly more clear in the mid to upper range. I recommend these as by far the most affordable RCA on the market.

Amazing difference between these and what I had! These cables are a little stiff so they use a little more room, but the signal/sound quality is excellent! I did, however, have to adjust (pinch) the ends of some the cables as they were somewhat loose on a couple pieces of equipment I have. Not a problem and I pretty much expected that.

For the price nothing compares
|
I'm a music enthusiast. Audiophile? I'm not that crazy. In the past I've spent a bit on very nice cables from some fairly esoteric names. While they have niceties that these don't, e.g. exceptional quality locking connectors, it just isn't worth the money.
As an electrical test/development engineer, I decided to do a little experiment. I ran each cable- one expensive one and the product in question- from a function generator through a wide band amp, through the cables to a resistive load. Doing a pass/fail comparison of the waveform on the source and load sides, there was almost no difference on each cable through the audio spectrum. Going up over 50kHz cable capacitance starts to distort the signal very slightly, but that's WAY outside the audible range. This probably doesn't matter even if you consider the presence of high order harmonics! Heck, RG59 is used to carry RF.
All in all, I don't see how anyone could physically hear a difference. It's a placebo more than anything. Nine stars because one channel on one of the cables I ordered was bad, but they're so cheap I didn't care. I took the good side and used it as a digital interconnect and kept the coax from the bad side in a parts bin.

Very Good Product!
|
I purchased these cables in several different lengths to hook up my $5K+ stereo system. I've been using them for months now with no noticeable difference from the hundreds of dollars worth of cables I'd used previously other than the fact that the Monoprice cables cost hundreds of dollars less. Acceptable build quality, with tight but not over-tight RCA's, good sound, and a whole mess of cables for a fraction of the cost of the boutique stuff. What more could one ask for?

Quality Cables!
|
Ive had these cables for 2 months now. they work great except for the fact that they are super super stiff. at times im afraid of breaking a device when pulling the off due to the stiffness of the cable. besides that they are high quality, if you plan on plugging them in and leaving them for a while, they are good. if your a mobile dj and need to connect and disconnect, i would recommend the non premium cables since they are more flexible.

Definitely above average, but not by much. These are not Monster Cables but then again there is no monster price tag either. For the price of the cheap stuff at Wal-mart, these are certainly worth the price but do not expect hi-fi quality.

I ordered 5 of these over time. 2 did not work but they are so cheap that I just bought replacements that worked fine. They are so cheap that it was not worth the time, effort and cost to send them back for a replacement. The 2 that did not work were from the same shipment batch so hopefully this was a minor glitch in manufacturing process that has been fixed.

A mix of good, bad
|
The wire is excellent for the price. It really doesn't take much for audio signals despite what boutique cable companies would have you believe. And these premium cables are nice and solid. I am using them for high-end analog audio and there is no difference between these and higher-quality cables I own for sound.
They also have fairly good construction and heft. Again, the value is excellent.
But the connectors do not match the wire and the build. They are not strong enough to hold up these heavy, solidly-constructed cables, and can pull themselves right off your equipment. They would probably be plenty on the lower line of Monoprice cables, but these are just too heavy. Pinching them may help, but that is not a great solution, and may not work, anyway. Careful placement and buying the proper length can reduce the strain, but that may not always be possible.
It would be nice to see these heavy cables upgraded with stronger connectors, even though it would probably raise the price a bit.

One of the ends of the wire is loose. I guess it's a good thing that these wires are stiff, because it stays in place no problem. I would've rated it lower but the wire quality is good and the price can't be beat. One of my friends had the same problem when he ordered a few months back, but I guess it's not so much an isolated incident. They need to do better QC or come with better terminals for the ends.

I just replaced all my wires with the premium wires and so far I am disappointed. The dialog from the center channel went from crisp, and clear to a fuzzy sounding voice compaired to my other brand. I quickly noticed this when the first few words of the movie played. I swapped out the center channel wire and noticed the differance when I went back to my old wire. My girlfriend is not into audio but noticed it was a little harder to understand what was being said because the voices were a little distorted. Gun fire sounded great but glass breaking sounded fake or dull. My subwoofer went from tight to a boomy bass. I replaced the wire with the old wire and it sounded tight and deep again. I tried 2 channel cd audio and noticed the same thing. If I never tried any other wire before these I would of liked them but what I had before sounded better. The build quality of the wire is awesome but the sound quality is not.
