Did not work
|
Did not work w/ a Dell E1505 w/ the Intel Mobile 945GM graphics card. Live chat was not helpful also and I was told "Each setup varies. I'm sorry though there is not one set that is the same as another."
So I decided to eat the shipping costs and submit an RMA.

Shenmue looks goood in 480p, this box works.
|
Pros: *Displays Dreamcast in glorious 480p *Sturdy metal build *Signal light so you know if the source is working *small AC adapter, with a decent length cord *screwy thingies for VGA cable *small *ninja-proof
Cons: *Requires AC adapter (blame science, they all do) *Strange grid/vertical dots on screen (maybe my setup)
I bought this to hook my Dreamcast w/ VGA box to my HDTV, and I was not disappointed. The AC adapter is nice and small, width wise, so it fits well in an outlet strip. The case is metal, so it would definitely survive getting stepped on. It has a power and a signal LED, which was helpful because it helped me figure out that my VGA box wasn't fully plugged into my DC. It doesn't upscale the DC (TV info display shows 480p), which in this case is good (no need for giant pixels). Also notable is that it works great with my Panasonic VIERA TC-P50U50. I believe a few others mention Panasonic issues, but I had none. The one problem I did have was very light interference in the form of a grid/vertical stripe pattern, but it's only visible in large bright solid color areas (like on foreheads during cut scenes). It may very well have nothing to do with the HDMI box, and be caused by another part of my setup. It's pretty easy to ignore/not notice most of the time, and is waaaaaay better than the blurry mess it would be with composite video cables. Colors look great, very sharp image, 3D games look amazing, and 2D game look like they would on a 360 or PS3. For Dreamcast lovers, this is a must buy. The DC can't look any better than this!

1080p versus 1080i
|
I've spent hours trying to get pictures from my Toshiba Satellite laptop to Mitsubishi TV model WS-55517. The LKV-350 converter information leaflet states it converts the VGA output into 1080p HDMI. I eventually found out my TV Video inputs are 480i/480p/1080i. Q? Is this converter useless for the job in hand? Q? Is there a converter that will do the job?
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Seamus,
Sorry for the trouble you are having with getting the video converter to work with your TV. Due to the fact that your TV only supports 1080i that is the max output this converter will allow or any for that matter with this particular set, 720p/1080i. So with that said you should still be able to get the converter to work with your TV, I would suggest lowering the resolution to the lowest and working your way upward. Here is a list of other resolutions that the unit should accept although the max you may be able to reach with your Television is 1280x768 or 1360x768. You may also try switching or adjusting your refresh rate.
640x480 @ 60Hz 720x400 @ 60Hz 800x600 @ 60Hz 1024x768 @ 60Hz 1280x720 @ 60Hz 1280x768 @ 60Hz 1280x1024 @ 60Hz 1360x768 @ 60Hz 1600x1200 @ 60Hz 1920x1080 @ 60hz
Again my apologies for any inconvenience and I hope this helps.
Sincerely

by Seamus Ryle Hello there. I tried every one of the resolutions listed and none worked. I also checked with experts in a store elsewhere I do business with and they confirmed vga converter to 1080p HDMI will not work into a 1080i TV. My TV is rather old - bought in 2005. It's a Mitsubishi WS 55517. Pity - I guess I'll just have to continue using my Laptop to view programmes from overseas until I get a replacement that has a HDMI outlet. Incidentally I am not blaming anyone in Monoprice for the problem because they didn't know the model TV I have and I didn't know the resolution was 1080i. Thanks for your efforts. Seamus
by Monoprice Administrator Hi Seamus,
Sorry to hear that and glad you were able to get confirmation. I looked up the specs on the television just to see if there any other feasible options and I noticed it does have a couple of component (Red, Green, Blue) inputs and was thinking that a VGA to Component converter may would work for your needs. I went ahead and posted a link below just so you could take a look over the reviews and maybe consider.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011407&p_id=8668&seq=1&format=1#largeimage&qs=forums
As for the other item if you like I can go ahead and issue an RMA for a return since you don't have any real use for the item. I would just need an order number to get the process started.
Thank you again

Cons:

by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Thank you for your review. And I am truly sorry to hear of your experience you have had with this product. We will be taking your review into consideration so we can look into the PID#. Thank you for your understanding and patience in the matter.
For now, if you prefer, I can assist you in setting you up for a replacement on the item if you haven't done so already. We do warrant our non-electronics and cables with a lifetime warranty as well as a 1 year warranty for electronics. It will be of no additional cost to obtain a replacement, so please let me know if you want to continue. I would just require your order# to set it up. It does the job well.
|
Pros: Easy to connect. Nothing to configure.
Cons: No way to change resolution. Native resolution with stardard card is 1024X768 (4:9 aspect ratio).
I love this product! Worked right out of the box, AND the price is right I must add (CAN'T BE BEAT)! If you use linux like I do (I LOVE "Linux Mint"), and have a standard video card, you'll have to go into your video player's menue and manually change your video player's (I use "Movie Player" and "VLC") aspect ratio from 4:9 to 16:9 as well as that of your TV if you don't want to stretch the picture out of shape if you watch movies, or any other "widescreen" video on your HD TV/Display while using this device. I got this device to hold me over till I got a "real" display. I have a "real" desktop display now, but I like seeing the BIG picture on my TV so much that I have yet "switch over" to use it (the desktop monitor that is).

Not up to defined standards.
|
Pros: Easily Assembly Small and portable Easily concealable Simple
Cons: Doesn't work properly Needs power outlet
The shipping was very fast and convenient as promised (I used Norco Overnite) and received it the day after the first business day. The picture is fine, but it doesn't fill my screen or provide the 16:9 picture promised. It functions in terms of response and image, but fails to project the entire 1920 x 1080 resolution. Or any other resolution perfectly for that matter. It leaves two slender black boxes on the screen, one left, one right. This doesn't sit well with me and I plan on sending it back if not resolved by customer service within the coming days,

Works well!
|
Pros: Supports lots of input resolutions on VGA. Worked perfectly for my application. Price is excellent!
Cons: Would be nice if some kind of braket or attachment point was available for mounting behind monitors.
I used this to add a VGA input to a new Samsung LCD monitor. The monitor was installed at a classroom in my church and teachers wanted a way to use their laptops with it - unfortunately manufacturers are dropping VGA from monitors in favor of HDMI (works fine for new laptops with HDMI outputs, but not for older ones).

Pros: Easy to connect and use.
Cons: Red light is extremely bright when you are trying to hide it. Occasionally have to unplug it to get it to work.
A great way to get the Sega Dreamcast to output to a modern TV! If you have the Dreamcast VGA adapter then you just connect this to the adapter and you have HDMI sound and video in seconds.
The only con is it seems a bit particular about the order that you turn on the Dreamcast and the TV, although the manual may speak to this as I haven't read it. Also of note is that the white balance seems a little different by default, but I can't tell if this is due to the VGA from the Dreamcast or this converter box.

Does what it's supposed to do some overscan issues
|
Pros: The device functions as advertised - once connected to the VGA port and powered via its dedicated source ("wall-wart" transformer), the HDMI port sends a signal to a connected HDMI-equipped HDTV. There's an option to output sound as well, just keep in mind it's "stereo only" (no 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS options available).
Cons: Make sure you read the manual! The operational settings are quite restraining - many of the allowed resolutions are either useless (640x480) or unattainable, and there's no 1366x768 operational value - you have to either go for 1280x768, or thereabouts. As such, the resulting image is squished. Any full-screen non-standard image size (like, for instance, some Winamp visualisation plug-ins like Milk or Geiss, who have strange resolutions) will crash the whole setup.
There's also a certain amount of overscan - the image "spills off" the edges of the screen, thereby effetively chopping 10 or 20 pixels on all four sides. If you use this device to send a computer image to a HDTV - like I did - you lose the Windows taskbar (because you can't see it). This overscan cannot be controlled, either from the device or from your own computer's settings.
The device will definitely convert any VGA source to a HDMI signal - useful, for instance, when connecting a computer to a TV without VGA capability. You are constrained, however, by the drastic resolution limitations (read the manual!), and the surprising lack of a true 720p resolution (1366x768). There's also a certain amount of overscan which cannot be eliminated, chopping off the edges of the usable screen.
This device was acquired to help a friend connect his older computer to a Panasonic plasma TV. The Monoprice site is a bit bizarre, and the search function outputs too many useless results. Have I been able to find - at that time - that Monoprice carries USB to HDMI converters, I would have gotten one of those instead. If your computer is speedy enough, that's a much better solution (and probably much more flexible, too.... )

Good as specs indicated, but limited
|
Pros: It performs everything that it says indicated in the Specs. The price is very good. It was easy to set up.
Cons: It did not support the size of screen I had for my HD TV. I had to center the screen manually with the TV settings. Even after checking my TV manual there were no options that make the screen size proper. I was using a Vizio brand TV.
I would recommend this product as advertised with the specs. No, however, its limitations depending on which TV you are using.

Pros: Nice little device well built. Great price as always. Does its job (with one small caveat).
Cons: (The following is not the caveat that i mentioned earlier)The fact that the input is on the front of the device makes it rather awkward for wiring into a home theater, versus everything coming out of the back of the box, but this is extremely minor. I can see why they would do this though. It would make plug and play much easier if it's in the front. Kind of like when plugging in a camera to the TV.
The caveat is that it does not work well with certain TV's. I didn't list this as a con because the device itself still works and the problem is due to my TV. Let me explain. My bedroom TV is a Philips (which is where I'm using this device). When I plug in my Macbook or my HP laptop, the video lags very noticeably making it impossible to use as a second display. If used only for a video or presentation, this isn't an issue because obviously the viewer of the slideshow/movie/whatever will not notice the difference. But it is really unusable as another desktop display. Also, the audio is not transmitted to my TV. I tried it with both computers and made sure that i was using a good audio cable and it just wouldn't work. Now the reason I'm not giving this device bad ratings is because I decided, before requesting an RMA, to try this device on my Samsung in the living room. It worked flawlessly. No lag and audio was transmitted perfectly. This device does indeed work and so I have decided to keep it just in case I ever do need it and because it was so cheap to begin with. I wish it worked on my TV, but it's not a huge deal. I hope this helps anyone who has a Philips TV. I only have two LCD TV's in my house so I was not able to try it with other brands of TV so unless you have either one of these brands, your results may vary. Judging by the other reviews, however, this will probably work perfectly with most name brand TV's. As always, Monoprice delivered a great quality product. Thanks!
by John SCRATCH THAT - I just set my bedroom TV to gaming mode and now it works like a charm! No more lag. However, I still haven't figured out the audio issues. Ahh well. This is good enough for now, haha.

Pros: Great customer service. Converter easy to hook up. Resolution setting no problem.
Cons: Sound would not work on my Tv
As usual Mono price service was Great. I could not get the sound to work on my TV. Mono price sent me a second one but I could not get sound to work on that one either. I don't think the converter is bad it just did not work with my TV. HDMI seems to have problems with some TVs to peripherals.

Simply perfect
|
Pros: Small footprint, solid construction, and it works. From the time I took it out of the box, connected it to my netbook and TV, maybe 5 minutes.
Cons: I'm thinking....thinking....NONE.
I needed this VGA to HDMI converter to use with my netbook. Of course, it doesn't have an HDMI connection, so I needed some way to connect this to my TV. This unit is simply perfect.
Thank you Monoprice for a great product, good price, and timely shipping. Whenever I need cables or peripherals like this one, I immediately go to Monoprice. No need to do comparison shopping.

Pros: Works Good for HDTV's that don't have VGA input Price Fast Service from Monoprice
Cons: Seems to alter the color with video signals heavy on red and blue Dreamcast through this box has out of control gamma and i really had to play with my TV's setting to get a halfway decent picture (still looks ugly)
In all it works as advertised but the color issue and the fact that its about useless for my dreamcast (through my TV anyway) would keep me from purchasing again. I'm not "unhappy" with this unit considering the price, but my experience has been less than stellar.

... almost worked
|
Pros: None so far really, it's small, but that's about it
Cons: I connected my laptop to three different tvs, and they all showed the same issue. The color was really washed out.. grayed out. I'm not sure how to describe it other than it was really different colors. I tried my dreamcast as well, it looks pretty good.. except for the same issue with the color. Grayed out colors, looks like the screen is covered by smoke ash. Weird.
It looks like this device has a lot of issues. Some people got it to work, but many had issues with compatibility. I played around with the settings and all that, but no luck. I hope I received a broken one and put in an RMA for a replacement. If the replacement works I'll change this review and let you guys know.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Thank you for your review. Can you please let me know if you have tried another cable with with this converter? Usually discoloration is the cause of the pins not making proper contact. So if you can, please try another cable to see if the symptoms still occur. Thank you!

I only one cable. I tried the vga chord on my tv (which has a vga plug) and a monitor and the colors looked fine. I doubt it's my vga cable. I tried two different hdmi cables.
Still have the issue, blacks look like light gray, hopefully that's now how it's suppose to look.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
If you prefer you can try a replacement to see if it'll work better. Also if possible, please make sure you have the latest version of Windows as well as the latest version of your video card drivers. Let me know the order# if you want to set up a replacement. Thank you!
John Lingo Tech Support
by Anonymous So Monoprice sent me a replacement right away. I couldn't be happier with the customer service. They sent me a replacement and gave me 3 weeks to send back the broken item (they even paid for shipping).
The replacement works great! No issues with color or anything like that. Awesome item!

Cons: doesn't work and that is very disappointing.
small, very light weight, and did not work to connect my dell to my panasonic flat screen Went through all the stops with dell gold support and still could not find a result that would get my computer screen to show on the tv.

Didn't work for me....
|
Pros: great Monoprice support
Cons: Didn't work for me, had to return for a different model
I was replacing a projector that had two VGA inputs with a new projector that had one VGA, and HDMI. This unit didn't work for me...the quality was lower than expected though I saw in reviews that it was hit and miss. I ended up returning the device and replacing it with PID 7110 which worked great. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work for some people, but for my setup it just didn't cut it. Monoprice did a great job in supporting the product and RMA'ing it for me when needed.

Pros: Great Idea. Unfortunately, didn't work for me on my Panosonic 42" plasma. However, it worked on my LG 32". For me, mixed bag. As usual it could be me. Somebody else might make it work. Monoprice is great!! Worked with me to solve problem but it was not to be. I'll still buy all my parts from Monoprice.

Good product
|
Good product and for a very reasonable price. Works as advertised with one exception: not all resolutions listed in the manual worked for me. I had to play with the laptop screen resolution to find only one that will show on TV. Once I got that, I had no problems. Very happy with the purchase overall.

Pros: I can use my wifes PC on my tv, I can watch youtube and hulu on my tv
Cons: poor resolution, doesn't work on my PC, only on my wifes.
It's great for doing what I wanted it to do, but it doesn't work for all PC's, but it works on most.

Works, just not great
|
Pros: It transfers the analog signal from my laptop to my flat tv. Small. Cheap
Cons: Image quality is poor. instructions not clear. causes the TV to be utilized as a 2nd monitor and not able to select the TV as the primary monitor
This product will work however I don't believe it's the best option. I should have spent a little more money for the next one up.

Works Great For Me!!!
|
Pros: It works!!!
Cons: None!!!
First off, I'm a SEGA fan. I bought this converter because I wanted to use this on my SEGA Dreamcast. I've been using the Dreamcast VGA box on my 1080p 240hz LED for the last 2 years & love it. The quality upgrade was great.
So I then stumble on to this jewel of a site & found this converter box. The price was right so I said what the heck. Little did I know this looks WAYYYYYYYYY better than the standard VGA on it. With this box it's truly 480p from the Dreamcast & all of my game titles look PHENOMENAL!!! I just can't get over how crisp the graphics look for a machine that was built in 1999!!! For all of you SEGA heads & all school gamers out there: this is a MUST purchase if you have an HDTV. Do yourself a favor & get this, you will NOT be disappointed!!! A big thanks to Monoprice for their fantastic prices.

JUNK!
|
Pros: The Audio works
Cons: EVERYTHING but the Audio
I just got this today. It is a piece of junk! I have tried 2 seperate computers with it with no luck. I pull it up on my45 inch Sanyo LCD tv and I looks like I have a giant purple neon computer screen. Every color is so messed up. Makes my eyes hurt to even look at it. After contacting Customer support they said it has to be the box. I could return it and get a refund as this product is no longer in stock and no idea when they are getting it back in. It already took almost a week and a half to get here for some reason. Now there is no more in stock and I have to pay for shipping back and be with out this for god knows how long again. I needed this for a school project and now I will not have one due to THERE shotty product. I will not be ordering from this site again!

Works Great

Pros: Easy to setup, perfect for my setup. Can plug in Dell netbook or Laptop and output quality video while running everything through my receiver for full surround sound.
Cons: Another reason to sit on my duff and watch tv.
Great product, worked as expected. Hooked up dell netbook and laptop to yamaha receiver, out to Samsung TV over HDMI. Provides full surround. Great deal if you look at similar products in the market.

Happy Customer
|
Pros: Works great and takes up little room.
Cons: Nothing bad to say about product. Initial setup took a little bit of figuring out as had to find the correct settings (resolution) on the computer so it would display on the TV. Once found it there was no problems and settings stay.
I was so happy to find this product. I had bought a brand new Plasma tv and found out that it only had a HDMI port, no VGA or S-Video and both my computers didn't have an HDMI port. I tried many stores in different areas and they all said such a product didn't exist. This converter works great! No problems with it what so far, been using it for few months. It is just like watching a DVD in the DVD player.

Gotta figure some things out...
|
Im giving this a 7/10 right now. Im doing this assuming I dont find a solution to my problem. I connected my computer up to my 65in dlp and theres about an entire foot all the way around the picture. The quality is wonderful (although the color is off, but thats easy to change) just a very annoying problem only being able to use about 40 inces o my 65 inch. I anyone has a solution, let me know :)
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Sorry for the trouble with the VGA to HDMI converter, have you tried adjusting the resolution on the computer? Normally this can be found in the display settings, depending on the resolution of the tv it may be hard to match it completely.
Thank you.

Works Great
|
Pros: Fast delivery, Monoprice Rocks!
Cons: A bit of fiddling to optimize.
I used this product to attach a Dell notebook to a 50" Hitahci Plasma TV. Worked perfectly although I had to adjust the horizontal pixel setting to properly scale the display. Though the manual lists specific supported resolutions I found it will support any horizontal resoultion as long as you use a supported vertical resoultion. I found the best setting to be 1440x768 @60Hz.
The result was a full screen display with excellent resolution and readability, better than I have obtained in the past using a passive DVI to HDMI cable on other units.

Works fine on one Toshiba laptop @ 720p, on a Dell laptop can get to work on HDMI signal, just 1280x1024, but the plasma displays it "fat", or in 4:3 ratio, if select to go 16:9 everyone seems fat/smaller.
If select 1080p, on both laptops the signal is recognized by the TV, but to vertical black strips (different width on each side) appear on each side of the image no matter what adjustment i made.

Works Just Fine
|
I have an older Toshiba laptop, and wanted to connect it to my Panasonic plasma TV. Just plugged all the necessary wiring (also ordered from Monoprice for a fraction of what Best Buy would charge) from the laptop to the converter, then hooked an HDMI cable from the converter to the TV. Had to set the laptop resolution to 1280 x 720, and toggled the Function-F5 button and, voila, the image popped up on the TV! Took all of three minutes.

Somewhat limited usability/compatibility
|
At least in my case, with a VGA signal needing to be converted to HDMI for viewing on a 26" LCD TV (Sylvania), my experience was the same that DowneMixedBoi posted on June 11, 2010: 1280x720 was the only resolution that worked/displayed properly. Unfortunately, that resolution wasn't compatible with the other smaller monitor we have running off of the same 1024x768 @ 60Hz VGA signal (the TV simply displayed something along the lines of "no signal change the resolution on your computer"), so I had to return this box. I'm sure that for most people this converter will work fine, but in our case we're going to have to try the slightly more expensive VGA to HDMI converter MonoPrice offers (item 4629). Hopefully (from the reviews I've read) the extra $10 we'll be paying will result in a more compatible converter and actually work in our setup. By the way, the return/refund (RMA) process went very smoothly. Just shipped this box back and once received the refund was processed the following day.

Works at 1024x768 on my TV. But there are green bars on the left and top sides of the image.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Thank you for your review. This item should allow up to 1920x1080p output resolution. Have you verified that you have extended your desktop to the maximum resolution it allows you to? Depending on your TV it should automatically resize the resolution. You can also try another TV to see if it'll work better or another computer. Thank you.

MonoPrice brand VGA to HDMI converter piece of crap
|
First off, I rate this item a ZERO (there is not an option)
This item does not live up to it's product description, it does not work.
I tried this item on more then one TV, It will not convert a VGA signal (from the computer) to HDMI(LCD TV).
I am in the process of returning it.
Save yourself the time and money and DO NOT BUY THIS.
