Nice switcher, does what it's supposed to!
|
Pros: Price Works good
Cons: Always on
Not a lot to say other than it does what it's supposed to. It might be nice to be able to turn it off but alas it stays on all the time along with the LED of whatever input you left it on. This is my second switcher and it's a bargain.

Pros: works great no problems that i can tell
i would highly recommend this product to anyone ho has multiple component sources they want to use with one input.just know that if you order a component extension cable it may degrade the overall picture quality slightly.that however isn't a reason not to buy the switcher.

It works!
|
Pros: Analog as all get-out
Cons: N/A
I only use this as an audio switcher, so won't comment on video quality. I use it in conjunction with a Pyle preamp on a turntable, a laptop headphone/RCA cable, and an additional rca/headphone cable (all from MP of course). Sound quality is superb to this non-audiophile's ear. Couldn't be happier with it.

Does not work with composite like the other reviewers said
|
Pros: Works fine for component, no complaints there. Pretty good picture
Cons: Does not work with composite video.
Couldn't get it to work with a composite signal. I have multiple component and a composite (Nintendo 64) and when I switch to the composite signal, I get audio fine but no picture. All it says on the screen is "Invalid Video Feed" or something along those lines.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Thank you for your review, and I am truly sorry for the inconvenience you're encountering. Have you tried connecting this on the green port on the switch and seeing if it'll work? Our customers have got the composite cables to work that way. Let me know, thank you!
John Lingo Tech Support
by Anonymous Yes, I hook the yellow composite up to the green on the switch. If i hook the composite up to the green on the tv directly it works perfectly.
by Anonymous I found a fix for it. With the cable going from the switch to the television, if I unplug the 2 extra component cables (blue, and red) it works fine. It's an extra step, but it is probably not the fault of the switch, it is probably my TV. I'd like to change my review to 4 stars if I can.
Thanks!

Switch box is pretty good
|
Pros: Easy to install and works
Cons: Box is too light connections a little too close
It was relatively easy to install (the monoprice cable was the problem) the ports are pretty tight & a little challenging to fit all the cable in, but doable. The box is too light that the cords made it heavy in the back & made it angle up.

AV Switch
|
Pros: A good product and easy to install and use.
Cons: The IR detector on the unit has a narrow angle of reception. So you have to aim the remote almost directly at the switcher.
Good product, good service from Monoprice, and good price.

Works great
|
Pros: Easy to use and switches inputs quickly
Cons: some of the ports I had to push a little bit on the connectors to have them sit flush, could of partially been the cables themselves I guess.
Works great!! I am currently using it as a RCA switch for all my old game systems that don't support component or HDMI. It isa great addition to have as newer TVs only come with 1 RCA/component input these days.

Useless
|
Pros: Packaging was okay.
Cons: This switch generates a continuous hum emanating from my subwoofer whenever power is supplied to the switch. Tried swapping out cables and connecting to a different outlet. No dice.
If you plan to connect a subwoofer to the coaxial inputs/output of this switch then look elsewhere.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
My apologies about the issues you encountered with the switch using your sub. Although theoretically it should work but the orange connector on this unit isn't intended for low line level signals but digital audio signals from say a Blu Ray etc. then out to the input on an AV receiver with the same type of digital coaxial input. So afraid subwoofer won't quite work out with this unit. If you like and you no longer have any use for this switch I can issue an RMA for a return, I would just need an order number to get the process started. Again my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Sincerely
Tjayi Malone Tech Support
by Anonymous I based the purchase on your knowledge base entry for this switch: "Question: Can I use it as an audio only switcher? Will it work if the component connectors are not ultilized. Answer: Yes, it will still work if you choose to use it only to switch analog 2 channel audio or S/PDIF Digital Coaxial audio and not have anything connected to the component video connectors."
After thinking about it, I connected the subwoofer outputs from the receiver/amplifier to the right channel audio inputs on the switch. That worked.
So I am revising my rating to 4 stars. It would be nice if the documentation was a little more clear on this subject.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
I see and yes I understand how that can be a little confusing or misleading, and my apologies for that. I went ahead and changed your rating to a 4 star for you. If you still would like to return the switch let me know and I can help with that.

First disappointment ever at monoprice
|
Pros: Works for non-1080p stuff
Cons: doesn't support 1080p, doesn't specify this in the product description.
First time I was ever disappointed with a product from monoprice. I did not know that it doesn't support 1080p, I found out when the package arrived, it says this right on the packaging but not in the product description.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Wired,
This should support 1080p media fine as long as it is not HDCP as this does not support HDCP. Have you tried a different set of devices, cables or the like? Please let me know, thank you!
John Lingo Tech Support
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Solomon,
I just wanted to let you know that 1080p does indeed pass through component as noted here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_ready
"In the USA, a similar "HD Ready" term usually refers to any display that is capable of accepting and displaying a high-definition signal at either 720p, 1080i or 1080p using a component video or digital input, but does not have a built-in HD-capable tuner."
Your devices may just not support 1080p through component so make sure they are marked HD-Ready.
The specs do only say it supports up to 1080i. So I truly apologize if that has caused confusion on your part. Did you want to set up a return if you are unhappy with the product? Please let me know, thank you!

Pros: A cost-effective solution when a TV has one component input and you need three.
Cons: Another item to plug in but that's to be expected.
So far so good. After tinkering with the IR learning I discovered that Logitech has the codes for this switch in its database. After defining the switch as a new component and adding it to the appropriate activities my Harmony remote can handle everything. No signal degradation issues observed.
To the previous poster asking how to reset to defaults after IR learning: go back through the learning sequence and use the 4-button remote that came with the switch to reprogram it.

Excellent So Far
|
Pros: Easy set up, inexpensive, quality product
Cons: N/A so far
I bought this A/V switcher along with the IR repeater sold here (product ID 7537) in hopes they would play nice together, and sure enough, the setup works like a charm! I was extremely pleased to be able to switch between the audio channels of two cable boxes, an Xbox, and a WD TV Live without having to make 4 additional long cable runs through my ceiling to a receiver across the room. Best of all, the whole setup is compatible with my Logitech remote. Very happy with Monoprice once again!

I was disappointed that it is hard to keep the cables in the back of this. They keep wanting to come loose.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Sorry about the problem you are having with the components staying in place on the switch. If I may ask are you using Monoprice component cables? Depending on the type of connector you can pinch the end so its tighter in diameter and it won't slide off of the connector on the switch. I hope this helps.
Sincerely
Tjayi Malone Tech Support
by Anonymous Yes, we bought your cables with the same order. Thanks for the tip about pinching the ends! That's a great idea!
by Monoprice Administrator Hi,
You're more than welcome, definitely hope that helps because I know it has worked for others I've recommended in the past. The end is a delicate connector so it doesn't take much but just a hair all the way around the connector so its tighter/smaller in diameter and that should do it. If you have any further questions or concerns please let us know.

Works great, but DOES NOT HAVE IR LEARNING.
|
Pros: Routes RGB and Component video without any noticeable loss or interference. Works well for me at 720x480@29.97hz from Wii, PS2, & DVD player (and 1024x768@60hz and 1920x1080@60hz and 1600x1200@120hz from PC using VGA to Component "shred" cable). Remote works well and REMOTES that have IR learning can of course control it.
Cons: DOES NOT HAVE IR LEARNING. The switcher cannot learn other IR codes. The remote cannot learn other IR codes.
Let's get this straight: "IR learning" means that a given device can record and replay OTHER IR codes instead of those built in by default. Satellite, Cable and other "Universal" remotes typically have IR learning, whereby you can take a traditional remote, aim it at a receiver on the device, & the device can replay the codes used by your old remote.
This unit does NOT have this feature. The "IR learning" tag should be removed from three name. Yes, if you already have a remote with IR learning, it can replace the remote that comes with this unit. NO the remote for this unit and NO the switcher itself DO NOT have IR learning capability. I have confirmed this with the manufacturer. The "IR learning" label is a packaging/marketing error.
I notified Monoprice of this error over a year ago and they still haven't corrected the listing for this item. You cannot train this unit or the remote provided to accept any offer IR codes.
(This is VERY unfortunate for me, as I have two of these units in one rack. If they had IR learning as advertised I could reprogram one of them to work using different codes. As IR learning is not available, I cannot use the two switches independently.)
The switches work fine. The remotes work fine. The "IR learning" feature is NOT available and Monoprice does not seem interested in correcting this totally inaccurate listing.

Get more use out of older flat screens
|
Pros: Ability to access 4 devices on flats screens with only one input.
Cons: Would like rack mount option as unit is very lightweight and moves easily while pressing buttons. Use of remote lessens this.
Would recommend to anyone with minimal input issues on older flat screens. Save a ton of money compared to purchasing a new flat screen.

Can be used for both composite and component video
|
Pros: Price. Size. Learning Remote.
Cons: No toslink or digital audio switching. No S-Video.
I bought a new TV (Vizio) with only one analog input (a component video connection). On contacting Vizio, I found out that a composite video feed (single yellow video cable) can be fed to a component input (three video jacks - red, green and blue). Simply feed the composite video signal to the green (Y) component jack and leave the other two empty. Using this switch, I was able to to feed both a composite signal (old laserdisc player) and a component signal (dvd player) into the single input of my TV. It works great! Much cheaper than buying a converter to feed into an HDMI input.

Awesome switch
|
Pros: Lightweight, easy to configure, reliable, get's the job done without problems.
Cons: didn't find any.
Awesome product for a small price. After trying out several component switches which i bought from different places, this is the only one that actually worked without problems or quality degradation. The other ones i tried lasted only a month or so before they started to crap out, i have the monoprice switch for about 2 months or so and so far no problems whatsoever. I definitely recommend this switch to anyone who needs it, don't be tempted by the switches that are on ebay, they suck, trust me, i'm talking from experience. And to top it all this one has a remote to choose between inputs.

Great switch, great price
|
Pros: It's small, inexpensive, operates very well, and has a remote control that works well. I haven't had time to get my learning remote to, well, learn it's codes.
Cons: None yet and I don't expect to see any.
I bought this to finish a centralized, multi-source home theater setup with a single monitor. It works great for that function. Given the price and the functionality I couldn't be happier. It doesn't take up much space in my media rack at all. If I had found this device earlier, I probably would have changed the design of the system.

Does the Job, plus a little more
|
Pros: Does the job, at a very reasonable price.
I am using this video switch to select between a Wii and a regular DVD player before sending the signal to an HDTV through a 35' (monoprice) component video cable. The switch works fine does exactly what you expect it to do, with no issues. I have not tried the remote yet, but am not expecting any issues with it. After connecting the unit, I discovered an unexpected benefit of this product... before connecting the switch, I hooked up the Wii to the TV via the 35' cable I mentioned. I was disheartened to see that there was multiple ghosts of vertical edges which was not present when I connected the Wii directly to the TV (without the long cable). I assume this is due to the length of the cable and some internal reflections or something. After connecting the Wii to this switch, and the output of the switch to the long cable, I was pleasantly surprised to see that all the ghosting was gone!! The circuitry in the switch must be more tolerant of the long cable's electrical characteristics than the Wii. I could not be more pleased with the performance of this product, and the bargain price just makes it that much sweeter.

Cons: No RF remote so the range is about 8ft. Learns most universal remotes but not wireless game controllers. Its a bit light and can be dragged back by heavy cables.
Looks very nice. Has 4 inputs, 1 output but works better as a push button switch.

My mistake!
|
When I saw "component switching", I thought that meant that it switched COMPONENTS, not component connectors - when I wanted to switch components with HDMI connectors. Monoprice was great about a credit, but I paid two shipping charges when I didn't have to if I had read closer. Don't make my mistake.

3027 component switch
|
Pros: easy to use, remote, inexpensive
Cons: very light, doesn't want to stay put
I am using this unit to switch between some analog tape decks and turntables only, so I have no experience with the video part of it. It works great for my application, and the remote makes it super convenient. Highly recommended for the price!

excellant product
|
Pros: The performance of this product is excellant. I have my direct tv hd recorder, my Sony hd dvr, and my Sony dvd player hooked up to this product. The remote control allows me to switch to any one from my couch. I have never had a problem and the picture on my screen is the same as if I had each product hooked up directly to the television.
Cons: There are no cons.
What more can I say? I could not be more pleased than I am with this excellant product. I recommend it to anyone who has only one component input on their television.

AV Switch
|
Pros: Remote control. Remembers last setting after power off. The video inputs that are not selected are loaded with a 75 ohm resistance.
Cons: Remembers last setting after power off: I have an application where I would like a default input to be selected on power on every time instead of the last selection.
I am impressed. Nice unit. Audio inputs are not loaded with a resistance when not selected. This was important for my application. I have no need for the remote, but I'm sure a lot of applications would have the need.

NEED REPLACEMENT REMOTE/AC ADAPTER? I HAVE THEM
|
Pros: 0 Quality loss Remote works OUT OF THE BOX!! (No IR Learning Needed) Light indicating which of the 4 devices is active visible from far distance Black color blends in nicely with other electronic devices in the setup Secure cable connection ports
Cons: Can't mix & match composite (Red, White, & Yellow) & component (Red, White, Red, Blue, & Green) cables (Not like that can be helped, though!)
I accidentally ordered a replacement AC adapter and remote, thinking they were not shipped but found them under a shelf today while cleaning up the room. I can't believe I did that!
Anyway, e-mail me at akpokemon@hotmail.com if you would like one/both of them ================ I freaking LOVE this thing! There is absolutely ZERO (0) visible quality loss. Everything looks great, and the remote worked right out of the box!! Couldn't ask for any better than this! EXACTLY what I was hoping for!
Thank you so much, Monoprice!!

Pros: Works perfect Easy to use Not expensive
Cons: none
I suspect something like this at a brick & mortar store would cost twice as much. I use it for older game consoles mainly(ps2,Wii) and a dvd player, everything looks great. Don't know what I would do without Monoprice around.

Not Working As Hoped
|
Pros: Like that you can connect multiple devices.
Cons: Does not work with the RCA cables.
Had multiple devices that use the RCA cables to connect to the TV. Thought that the switch would be able to handle them. The switch shows the video slightly distorted. Sound also seems to be coming from the video jack.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Kevin,
Thank you for your review. When you mean by RCA did you mean composite cables(yellow/red/white)?
If you did, it should work but all connections have to be composite as well, you are not able to mix and match. Thanks!
John Lingo Tech Support
by Kevin Hi John,
The cables are yellow/red/white. Plugged the red and white correspondingly. But the yellow should go where?
Kevin
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Kevin,
The yellow can go anywhere whether it be the blue green or red, but make sure it matches for all devices. So if you connect it to the blue, make sure all the composite yellow connections go on the blue. Thanks!

Great Product that fills a need beautifully.
|
Pros: Small, inexpensive, switches Analog and Digita (Coax) Audio. It even has a programmable Remote. I bought two so far.
Cons: One was fine and one I needed to open up (which wasn't easy) and solder a loose capacitor.
Great space saving design. Passes HD component

Cons: Couldn't manage to make my programmable remote operate the unit properly

Great value and quality, and improved over previous revisions...
|
Pros: Does the job perfectly, controllable via IR/remote, IR learning feature, fast/clean no-relay switching, great price, easy to use. You can be confident that you're getting the quality/value that comes with all MonoPrice products. Latest revision has good IR receive range and well-illuminated LED indicators.
Cons: Does not have a single IR command to sequentially select the next input (AFAIK) given that there is a single push button on the front panel, I would've thought an IR equivalent would exist. Instead, there are 4 discrete IR commands to select each of the inputs. Also, the remote it comes for is quite large (for only 4 buttons), but the codes can be learned/extracted and programmed into another remote.
This is the perfect solution for TVs with limited inputs, but multiple devices. The recent model I bought (Aug 2011) seems to be improved over earlier models (Jan 2011) of the same product, in that front panel LEDs are brighter and have a wider angle of dispersion (previous models had very directional LEDs resulting in some appearing much dimmer than adjacent ones), and better IR receive range (previous ones stopped receiving once you were 8' away the current revision works even at about 16' away). The only thing I wish this had is support for a single IR command to select the "next" input, much like the front panel button does. This way, I could use a single "Video Source" or "Input" button on any programmable/learning remote, rather than having to assign up to 4 commands (1 for each input) to 4 buttons. I've analyzed the IR waveforms to try and extrapolate commands that may have been assigned to the "select next" functionality, but such a code/command does not seem to exist.

Pros: broke a buddy's component inputs behind their tv. tried to fix it via instructables but failed hard. this thing saved my life.
Cons: it's a bit big so takes up some space.
20 bucks for a 4 channel converter. u'd probably spend over 60 at a best buy. this thing is great if you have a lot of component-related gear but only 1-2 inputs on ur tv.

Works as advertised
|
Pros: It works. 4 input ports - enough for all the components that I have component - not composite+audio
Cons: (minor) The remote is pointless - waste of batteries.
It's a good little box. My folks has an older AV setup which the receiver does not do any video switching. This does the job. While not automated, pressing a button to cycle through the inputs is simple enough for even the less-than-tech-savvy-people can handle.

How does anyone make money selling stuff on this site? Seriously. If I tried to buy this switcher at Radio Shack or Best Buy or wherever else...well, they wouldn't have it, 'cause they're all good for nuthin' punks, but if they did sell it, I'd be paying $60 or more. I also bought a headphone splitter with dual volume controls for less than $3. Try that at an Apple Store.

Beware of IR
|
Pros: Inexpensive, very good picture quality, ease of use.
Cons: Very low IR pickup
Folks that are using IR distribution need to be aware that this piece has a very heavy cover over the IR pickup. Your universal remote IR repeater "bugs' will likely not penetrate the lens. I had to drill a hole in the lens, and place the emitter just over the hole. Bu the way, the IR eye is about a quarter inch to the left of dead center on the lens.
Overall nice unit. Video quality is very good.

good solution
|
Pros: only way to connect multiple Component sources to old TV with only 2 component hookups. Simple to use.
Cons: i had a hard time keeping some of the cables connected into their ports. seemed like the connection could have been tighter. the unit is so light, any tension in the cables behind the unit will shift its position.
If you're not going to ditch the old TV and get all HDMI, this is really the only way to go. The picture and the function of the unit was fine. really, the only problem i had with it was the hook-ups in the back and new Component cables shifting the box position.

Works like a charm
|
Pros: Worked perfectly, no loss of video quality, great price, easy setup
Cons: Lightweight, so heavy cables could cause problems (although I didn't have any once my cables were in position), information on product page doesn't list model no. (CPX-401) for planning with harmony remote software, IR eye difficult to find (between the "2" and "3")
This was a necessary component for my in-law's set up who have a fantastic but old Pioneer plasma with component only inputs and Denon receiver with only composite switching. I ran the DirecTV H-21 and LG BD390 into this without suffering any loss of video quality that I could discern. Setup was easy, basically plug and play, with the exception of finding the IR eye for use with Logitech's RF system with its 1000 remote. Tech support told me it was to the left of the "1", but after 15 minutes of trial and error I found it between the "2" and the "3".
Also, I had trouble finding the model number for this switch (Monoprice CPX-401) before ordering because it is not listed anywhere on the product page, which made determining if it would work with the Logitech system difficult. It in fact works wonderfully with no issues whatsoever, and it IS in the Logitech Harmony database. Overall this was a great purchase and fits my in-laws needs exactly.

Cons: the remote is a little cheap/goofy
the switcher does just what I need - switches my composite video sources. no problems at all with the functionality, and it looks nice. Great Product - Composite setup
|
Pros: Low cost, but quality construction overall. Very easy setup. Worked perfectly out of the box.
Cons: Cables fall out very easily from back (at least the high-quality composite cables I purchased from Monoprice did) even when I made sure to push the cables in all the way. No problem, as long as you don't move the unit after setting it up. But just about any movement of the unit caused one or more sets of cables fall out of the back. Would be nice if it had some sort of a cable locking mechanism, though. But, for the price, it's not an absolute requirement. Also, a very, very small quibble: The Monoprice logo on the front, at certain viewing angles, can somewhat interfere with seeing the light for the No. 1 position.
I used this to feed composite (not component) output signals from 4 older VCRs (that were fed a split cable-TV input signal) into one older TV that has one composite input. Resulted in a much better signal to the TV via the VCRs than was accomplished via the manual coaxial-cable four-part switch that this unit replaced. I plan to buy some more for other uses.

Pros: Works great. Love the learning function so it works with any remote.
Cons: None.
As usual, another great product offered at a very reasonable price from Monoprice.

Does the job, but a little noise
|
Pros: Product does the job, very easy to use. Learned the commands from my receiver remote perfectly, now when I switch the audio source my video source changes on the switcher as well. Great price, much cheaper then competitors I found.
Cons: A thin horizontal line of noise can be seen that slowly scrolls up the screen and then starts again at the bottom. It is present in all video channels, and I've tried it on several different power outlets. It's not noticeable when there is a lot of action on the screen but in dark scenes it is annoying.
Overall a good product that does the job.

Works a treat!
|
You can route audio backwards through the unit. I have one source I want to split to two different devices - but only one at a time. Works just fine.

We have lots of these switches in our organization, and have not had the first problem with them. Except for not color coordinating, work great for composite RCA.

Pros: One week into use, it's working fine.
Cons: So far none.
One should be aware that this really is a COMPONENT video switch: Of course, you can connect a COMPOSITE video input but the output will contain only part of the color info.

Love it, but can it respond to a Wii remote?
|
Pros: Easy to set up & use, works perfectly
Like many other reviewers, this is a great, inexpensive solution to a problem. In my case, I already had the Wii & the DVD player sharing my tv's sole component port, when my tv & tivo stopped talking to each other via HDMI. This little device has solved the traffic problem at the tv's component port, with no loss to picture quality.
Getting the box to learn the IR signals from the tv & the dvd remotes was easy, but can anyone explain how to get it to register the Wii remote? (It's not a big deal to push the button on the front of the box to change channels while I'm setting up to play the Wii, but it would be neat to have it switch automatically.)

Slick idea, just didn't work for me
|
Pros: Simple to use, easy to set up.
Cons: TV lost sync repeatedly from the Xbox360 and cable box, running at 720p. Made it unusable in my case. TV is an older plasma from 2005, so it's possible the problem was there, but it doesn't have any sync issues with things plugged in directly.
Didn't work in my setup. TV frequently (up to a couple times a minute) lost signal and had to resync.

Great Switch
|
Pros: Does just what I needed it to do. I only use the audio portion of the switch but it does what I wanted it to do well.
Cons: The remote is a little on the weak on range and you it doesn't work at wide angles from the switch.
Overall I like this switch and I intend to buy another in the future.

Despite the reviews, it didn't work for me
|
Pros: Cheap, works for most newer HDTVs, decent quality
Cons: Didn't work out for me with an older HDTV.
I have an older HDTV, so this model exhibited the sync loss issue described by previous reviewers whereby the unit loses connectivity for a few seconds upon having a white, or nearly white screen running on the TV. For me, this could be anything from a Corona commercial to a car commercial. If it doesn't bother you, then it shouldn't be a huge deal. The signal would come back after a couple of seconds. I ended up going with an older Key Digital (KD-Flash Max 2) switch from an online bidding site for slightly more than this unit, and it does not have the sync loss issue I described.

What a problem solver!
|
Pros: Allows us to add additional Component inputs to a system for just $20...amazing. In a world where everything is going HDMI...we still use Component video a ton, and never have enough inputs. Now we do. IR control is fantastic as well.
Cons: None.
I always keep 3-4 of these on hand in case we need them...so handy to have around. Love the product.
