4 x 1 HDMI hub
|
Pros: if it worked, it would have been a good solution for my situation, I guess the unit looked good, and the remote worked.
Cons: it didn't work, even after extensive chat line help, and buying new, very expensive HDMI cables as instructed by the person on the Monoprice chat line, the fix I actually came up with, on my own, was to buy a new switch from a local vendor.

Does not do DHCP correctly from PC
|
Pros: It does work when switching content that does not require DHCP. PS3 would be able to play games.
Cons: When I'm using either the PS3 or my media PC to view DHCP content (blu-ray, cablecard), it rejects. Swapping cables or connections did not seem to work. Different video card vender (nvidia/amd) did not work. Different OS (win 7/8) did not work.
Overall, I was a bit disappointing since this was intended to switch the connections going into my receiver for viewing videos. Now, I have to use HD composite on the PS3 to play games since my receiver only has 1 HDMI port.

Wow... what a disappointment.
|
Cons: Does not work reliably at all.
Like other reviews, I am entirely frustrated with this product. What is surprising is that it simply doesn't work at all well with Monoprice brand HDMI cables I purchased with this unit. I have only been able to get this to work somewhat reliably with one port featuring two non-Monoprice cables. Back in 2011 I purchased PID 5081 "5X1 Enhanced 1.3b Certified HDMI Switch with built-in Equalizer (REV.3.0) w/ Remote" for my Mother that works flawlessly! I purchased this unit based on that experience without having read the reviews with full trust and faith in the Monoprice brand. Despite my best effort with this unit (different cables, even trying with a different TV) I am going to return it and, based on other reviews here, strongly recommended that Monoprice discontinue sale of this product until a better engineered one can be brought to market. Continuing with this product will simply hurt Monoprice as I can no longer recommend without serious caveatd.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Thank you for your review and my apologies for the issues you have experienced with PID 4088. A shame this didn't work out for your needs.. Now if you haven't done so already, I can help setup an RMA for a return. If you would like me to proceed with the RMA, all I would need is the order # this switch is under. Sorry again for the trouble and thanks in advance!

by Anonymous Thank you Jonathan. Despite the trouble with this product (that is shared with a large number of others) I do respect and appreciate the transparency, that Monoprice allows these reviews to appear on the site for their brand products. I will continue to purchase from Monoprice but will carefully monitor reviews before placing my trust in a purchase.
That being said, I have already applied for an RMA (RMA990296040) for my order 8060263. I would appreciate that being expedited with instructions on how I proceed with this return.
by Anonymous I will understand if the following comment should not be approved as it references a competitor product...
... but I'm now considering the purchase of the Kinivo 501BN (and using Monoprice cables... of course)!

4X1 Enhanced HDMI® Switch w/ Built-In Equalizer & Remote (REV.3.0)

The remote initially did not work. Had to place some aluminum foil between the contacts and the batteries. Tried with different brand of batteries with same result.

Sorry that you received what sounds like a faulty remote. If you like I can issue an RMA and see about getting a replacement sent out to you. Again sorry for the trouble.

HDMI switch
|
Pros: Price, Value, Performance
Cons: none
I was very happy to get my HDMI switch from Monoprice. It was just what I needed to bring the signal into my TV from several sources. My TV is an older Samsung DLP that only has one HDMI input. The service from Monoprice was speedy and I would check there again when needing electronic help.

by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Thank you for your review. And I am truly sorry to hear of your experience you have had with this product.
For now, if possible, please try a couple of troubleshooting techniques with me to see if we can resolve your issue.
Have you tried a different set of cables?
What about different set of inputs?
Have you tried another power outlet and power cycling all devices associated with the switch including the switch itself?
Please let me know if the problems still occur. If it does, I can assist you in obtaining a replacement or a return RMA to see if a replacement will work better. We do have a lifetime warranty on non-electronics and cables as well as a 1 year warranty for electronics. And obtaining a replacement is of no additional cost. If you want to continue with an RMA just please provide the order# and if you wanted to return it or obtain a replacement. Thank you!

Works with Roku 3 and Xbox 360
|
Pros: Works with my BluRay player, xbox 360 (slim) and roku 3. LED's aren't blindingly bright like some other switches from MonoPrice Does not autochange, but does skip ports that are not used. Works well with Harmony Remotes (this switch and commands are in their database)
Cons: Had to change video settings on some devices for them to work.
I was skeptical about getting a switch as I read in other reviews that they may not work with everything. Many people have said they the switch wouldn't work with Roku or Xbox 360. It worked right away with my xbox, but not my bluray player or Roku. My bluray player got a picture, but the colors were wrong, but after playing around with the picture settings in the bluray player menu it worked perfectly. With the Roku all I got was stactic and the occasional flickering picture of the home screen. I changed the video settings from 720p (what my tv is) to 1080p and it worked perfectly.
This switch now does exactly what I want it to do, and I would have given it a perfect score if I didn't have to try and play around with the settings on the devices to get it to work. I hope this information helps others out that are having troubles with these common devices.

A lot Cheaper than a similar product at the local electronics store
|
Pros: Right price. compact. works well. thats all I asked
Cons: I think it would be improved if there was a separate button for each input port - rather than having to toggle through. But, really, that's minor
No review, really. It's all in the pros and cons

HDMI Problem Solver
|
Pros: Performs as advertised.
I had one remaining HDMI port in my receiver, but had a bluray player, a ROKU streamer and an Apple TV streamer to connect. I connected the switcher output to that one available port and used three of the switcher's input ports, leaving one available for future use. The remote device works perfectly, allowing me to connect any of the devices from my chair.

Works well, just not on 1080p
|
Pros: Effectively toggles between my OpenELEC HTPC and Samsung Blu Ray player
Cons: Cannot get 1080p inputs to work correctly.
My old SAMSUNG HL-S6187W DLP only has two HDMI inputs. I dedicate one to the DTV receiver and use this switch to select sources on the other input. The TV accepts the 1080p input directly, but I am completely unable to get 1080p input through the switch. Given that sources are generally 24Hz or 30Hz, I don't really notice much of a difference in play quality, but I really wish that I could use the capability of my television.

I would encourage people not to buy this
|
If you are only interested in one or two ports working properly OR if your devices are not 1080p, you might be OK. I suspect the reason older reviews seem so solid is because there were fewer blue ray players around, but as more and more people are using the full capacity of their televisions, reviews on this device will go south.

Simple enough to use, just didn't work with my TV
|
Pros: Small and unobtrusive Ports are nicely spaced out Works with harmony remote
I bought this for my Panasonic TH-50PZ80U which only has two HDMI ports on the back so I could use all devices via HDMI. After much time spent swapping cables, trying different power on sequences, ports, settings, etc nothing would work. Got an RMA from Monoprice and right away had the same issue. Reading reviews here makes it seem like Pansonic stuff just does not play nicely with this switch. Such a shame. I'll be sending back my unit for refund.

Doesn't Support 1080p
|
Pros: Easy to use and install
Cons: Does not support 1080p
This is the second HDMI switch that I have purchased from Monoprice. My first (3x1)one from years ago works fine and supports 1080p. I'm not sure why the this 4x1 doesn't.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Sorry for the issue you are having with the switch supporting 1080p. If I may ask what is the source device you are using? Also have you tried other devices that support 1080p and you get the same results? I'd also try different ports if you haven't done so already. Hopefully we can get this unit working properly for you and if not we can always try a replacement to see if that works better for you. Again my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

DO NOT PURCHASE!!
|
I purchased this unit and found like MANY others have noted that for some reason it does not support 1080 resolution. It always downscales my DVD player to 480p and my dvd player will not work. It will work on my WDTV Live and cable box. This is NOT a cabling issue as Monoprice tech will lead you to believe. It is just a poor product.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello Amit,
Thank you for your review and I am truly sorry for the inconvenience you've encountered. This should support 1080p, have you tried another DVD player or upgrading the DVD player's firmware to see if it'll fix the incompatibility issue? Thank you!

Product Not Advertised Accurately
|
Pros: Shipment received in good condition
Cons: Doesn't work Catalog description inaccurate/misleading Paid shipping in both directions for product that doesn't work as promoted
Very dissatisfied with my first - and last - purchase from Monoprice. The online description specifically states: "It seems like everything uses HDMI these days, from home theater equipment to your Android phone." After connecting to my Apple TV (worked fine) and then my Samsung home theatre (didn't work at all) I was dissatisfied. Contacted the Live Chat person who asked what gauge HDMI cables I was using. Apparently - not mentioned anywhere in the catalog description - the Monoprice product needs specific gauge cables to work. Checking with two neighbours, no one has HDMI cables of the gauge indicated by Live Chat person. All my other cables work fine until utilized with your product - That should tell you something. Be wary of purchasing this product without getting THE WHOLE STORY from technical support prior to ordering. I am now out the $6.90 it cost to ship to me and the $12.66 it cost to ship it back to Monoprice. Not a good shopping experience with Monoprice at all.

Excellent with Redmere HDMI Cables
|
Pros: Sleek, metal case. Works well and sits flat on my shelf using Monoprice's skinny, amazingly performing Redmere HDMI cables. Remote is handy and works well. Picture quality using Monoprice Redmere HDMI cables is indistinguishable from direct connections. Switches far faster than the circuitry in my HDTV can keep up with.
Cons: Switching takes a few seconds, but that is due to their HDTV's internal electronics resetting themselves to the new HDMI signal from the new source. Some reviewers have complained about this, but it's not the switches fault and is unavoidable unless they're willing to blow thousands on a high-end external video processor.
Upon opening the box, I was absolutely stunned that the switch's case is extruded, satin-finished (annodized?) aluminum! At this price? Wow! Using Monoprice's shockingly good Redmere skinny HDMI cables, I couldn't find a single thing to complain about. Picture quality is indistinguishable from a direct connection and believe me, I've A/B'd this thing to death to find anything to criticize. Using Monoprice Redmere cables, the switch also sits perfectly flat on the shelf with not one but FIVE HDMI cables (4 in/1 out) plugged into it. I would purchase this again without hesitation and would only use the Redmere cables. Those products play amazingly well with each other.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BUY!!!!
|
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Constantly says unsupported signal. Does not work!
DO NOT BUY! It will cause you more money and headaches and it does not work. I'm using 24 AWG and 28 AWG cabling and bought this to hook up my Roku and Wii U and the unit constantly displays unspported signal. I got the Roku to work once and the Wii U to work a few times. I've tried different ports on the TV, swapping cables, hooking up the PS3, and the Xbox 360 and it constantly says unsupported signal. To make matters worse I was sent a replacement, which I had to pay $8.50 to ship back the old one on top of the $28.06 plus shipping I paid for the original unit, and it still does the same thing. So now I have to decide if I should request a refund and ship the second fauly unit back at my cost of $8.50 or save some money and keep a faulty unit. NOT A GOOD BUY! I would rate this a Zero if I could. Not happy at all. Especially being out more money than I started out paying and with the possibility of having to ship another one back at $8.50. :(

Horrible HDMI switch, would not recommend
|
Pros: -Worked initially, then failed -Replacement shipped quickly
Cons: -First device sent to me, had no sound. -Subsequent device was sent through RMA, and only worked for 3 days.
I had purchased this HDMI switch as part of a large order, (which included 2x1.5ft and 1x30ft HDMI cables to use with this switch) and I was initially sent a dud. The first device sent to me had video that frequently cut out, and sometimes would produce a no signal error due to it timing out while displaying an HDMI signal. There was also no audio coming out of the device. Here's my setup: Here are the INPUT devices connected:
Input 1: 1.5ft 28AWG HDMI cable (PID: 3872) connected to Western Digital WDTV Live Plus. Resolution: 1280x720 (720P).
Input 2: 1.5ft 28AWG HDMI cable (PID: 3872) connected to Xbox 360. Resolution: 1920x1080 (1080P).
Input 3: 30ft 24AWG HDMI cable (PID: 6099) connected to Bell ExpressVu (Canadian) Satellite Set Top Box. Resolution: 720x480 (480P).
Output: 15ft 24 AWG HDMI cable (not purchased from Monoprice) connected to BENQ Projector. Supports resolutions up to 1080P.
I was sent a replacement, and it worked for 3 days with the same setup. However, it then failed as well, and I was given a partial refund ($17 and change but I paid $22) for the product. The problem is that it times out. After downscaling the resolution to 720P, the switch seemed to operate better, but still did not work with my Bell Satellite STB. I would suggest looking elsewhere for an HDMI switch.

Works well, but not perfect for PS3
|
Pros: Powered, 4 inputs, easy to use, works with Logitech remotes
Cons: PS3 only in 1080i, no auto-switching
This product was easy to use and understand. The switching happens at a fast rate and it only switches to the slots that have a device plugged in, which is nice. Also, it worked with my Logitech 900 remote perfectly. I like that it is powered separately and seems to be built with quality materials.
However, it did not work out of the box with my PS3. After reading about switches not working with all devices, needing a shorter HDMI cable, needing a longer HDMI cable, PS3 black screening, etc., I finally read that it only works with 1080i (not 1080p). So, I disconnected and ran my PS3 to my TV directly so I could change the system settings to 1080i (not automatic) and then hooked everything back up. This worked perfectly. I can't tell the difference in picture, but I'm sure others would disagree. I have to take points away for not having information or instructions about this up front, also it should work with 1080p to begin with.
It does not auto-switch between devices based on what is turned on or off. This was not a feature listed for this product however, many other less expensive switches do this.

Does not work reliably with 1080p LG Blu Ray player
|
Pros: Solid build Full size remote
Cons: Does not function with 1080p signals reliably
Does not reliably recognize LG 1080p bluray. Replacement also failed. Works well with Apple TV and Dish satellite receiver (@720p). Not a cable issue. I returned to using the 'cheap 3x1 switch' this new 4x1 was to have replaced! HDMI can be flaky I know, but since others have had similar issues, this should be noted in the product description.

by TeeJay I have tried 2 units. Same issue with both so not 'defective', just 'incapable' of proper recognition of this 1080p source. Cables are 24 gauge high speed Monoprice cables so that is not the problem! I am not able to spend any more time or money on this - I will make due with the 3x1 switch that I have. Thanks for advice.

Very good!!
|
Pros: Super easy to install and use. Evan my wife can do it!
Cons: The box is way to light. I have few heavy gauge short length HDMI wires (24AWG) on the box going different directions, and now the box won't stay flat due to the tension. Also, the plastic cushion thing on the bottom of the box came off on the first day. Not a big problem, I just glue it back...
Love it so far. It does what it says it will do. And the price is cheap!!

Pros: Inexpensive. Works mostly.
Cons: Unable to get full resolution out of some devices. Apple TV was not recognized until it was put into 720p and Xbox needed to drop to 1080i.
Not a huge deal, but caused a bit of a headache. Make sure the proper gauge cables are used as well.

Not good for new slim ps3 at 1080p
|
Pros: None for me
Cons: Won't connect a 1080p signal
Have to give it a low rating for now. I purposefully bought this to add a new slim ps3 250gb system to my Samsung HDTV that already has crowded HDMI inputs.
Used the switch to connect both the dvr and ps3 to one port. The ps3 will not connect at 1080p. 1080i, yes. The machine will not "handshake" that.
It's not the ps3 nor the cables. Used 4 ft 24 AWG cables. Plugging the ps3 directly into the tv wi the same cable allows the ps3 to display at 1080p. Use the same cable through the switch, will not display at 1080p. Tried all ports on the switch, no go. Also tried a workaround I read elsewhere...about turning deep color to off and retrying, no go.
If anyone has info on this, please let me know since the box is useless currently for my purposes
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Thank you for your review. And I am truly sorry to hear of your experience you have had with this product. We will be taking your review into consideration so we can look into the PID#. Thank you for your understanding and patience in the matter.
For now, if possible, please try a couple of troubleshooting techniques with me to see if we can resolve your issue.
Have you tried a different port on the TV itself?
What about power cycling all devices associated to the switch?
Have you tried longer cables that are thicker instead?
What about another PS3 or 1080p device? Have you made sure it is on the latest firmware?
Please let me know if the problems still occur. If it does, I can assist you in obtaining a replacement or a return RMA to see if a replacement will work better. We do have a lifetime warranty on non-electronics and cables as well as a 1 year warranty for electronics. And obtaining a replacement is of no additional cost. If you want to continue with an RMA just please provide the order# and if you wanted to return it or obtain a replacement. Thank you!

Pros: Quick Switching & Small
Cons: chance of tipping backwards due to cables
Used this to connect my xbox360 and PS3. Originally had issues and found I didn't read the notes and should have used 24awg cables. Swapped cables from devices to switch for 24awg and then used the new RedMere cable from the switch to my Sony Receiver. All works fine. If you use a cable length less than 4ft for your PS3 you WILL have issues. I did and Monoprice Tech Support confirmed this. Another cool point on this switch, its in the Logitech Harmony Remote database so I can use my Logitech remote to switch imputs during activities!

Pros: Easy to set up Works precisely as described Solves the Panasonic Plasma TV switching problem Highly competitive pricing
Cons: None
AS has been mentioned in reviews of other similar units on other websites, Panasonic Plasma TV's often have a problem consistently behaving correctly with HDMI switches. Having already been burned with other units, I was somewhat dubious as to whether this one would work. However, I was assured by Tech Support that this unit had the latest improvements and upgrades and decided to give it a try. After 2 full months of frequent use - swtiching among DirecTV, DVD and laptop streaming feeds, I have experienced exactly one incident where the switching failed to succeed. Returning to the original input and then going back to the new one solved the problem. The installation of this unit allows my wife to easily switch among sources without getting involved with the Panasonic remote - which requires careful finger pushing lest the wrong button be depressed and a less than friendly interface for the non-technically inclined. As has always been the case in my experience buying from Monoprice - the quality of the service has been exemplary. Oreder placing and fulfillment go quickly and a competent staff is always available to help. should the need arise. I can recommend this unit without reservation.

Buying this box saved me time and money
|
Pros: Cost, size, Functionality
Cons: Doesn't work with my older Blu Ray player
I recently bought a 55" Samsung Slim LED TV. I knew I wanted to mount it above my fireplace. I also knew I wanted to put my devices (Dish Network box, XBOX 360 and Blu Ray player) in a Media cabinet to the side of the fireplace and that I didn't want any cables showing. At first I planned to run 3 long (20'+) HDMI cables through the wall to the TV. As I was searching for the right cables on the monoprice website, I came across the Switch boxes and liked what I saw.
After much research, I decided to buy the switch box, one 20' HDMI cable and four 4' HDMI cables. This turned out to be the wise decesion. Running one long cable was hard enough in my tight attic. Glad I didn't have to do it 3 times. Also, now I have a free HDMI port that is easy to access. Plus I still have 2 free HDMI ports on the back of the TV if I need them.
The only negative so far, is that my older Sony Blu Ray doesn't seem to work with the Switch. It flickers really bad. I saw that this was a possibility before I bought it. Fortunately for me, we don't use it much at all. My Dish box and my 360 get used the most, and they work fine.

Attention: PS3 owners with HDMI "no signal" problem
|
Pros: Fixed my PS3 HDMI handshaking problems!
Cons: LED lights are too bright on the front when watching movies in the dark- I put black electrical tape over them
After 3 years of frustration and having to use component in 1080i rather than HDMI because of the black screen / no signal issue, I finally solved the problem.
The no signal was caused by a HDMI handshaking error- no hardware fault.
after reading some posts on another site, I decided to buy an HDMI switch :
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product_print.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10110&cs_id=1011002&p_id=5081
I had very little hope that it would work, as I had tried everything other than this (different cables, different TV's, different firmware, different methods of resetting and configuring options). but I am happy to report , it works perfectly. I am able to game in 3d now on my ps3, (which component didn't allow).
apparently it strips the handshaking error off the signal or something like that.
good luck
edit: to people posting that it was a simple matter of resetting the ps3, this thread is for people who have already tried everything, and no matter what, HDMI won't work on their PS3. There is a handshaking problem with the ps3, google : hdmi no signal ps3 and see how many hits you get. as I mentioned above (different cables, different TV's, different firmware, different methods of resetting and configuring options, and settings on both the TV and ps3 did not work)
read more here :
http://www.thebuzzmedia.com/ps3-hdmi-black-screen/
quote:
"If that doesn’t work, the problem might be your PS3 and TV not being able to establish a secure HDMI handshake which is required for an HD signal. You can try working around this (if your PS3 and TV hate each other) by purchasing what is called an “HDMI switch”, it’s basically a hub but for HDMI connections (as opposed to USB or network connections). You can get a $10 manual switch here, or a nicer remote-controlled HDMI switch here for $25. If you just have the 1 PS3 HDMI connection and don’t need any other connections, just grab the $10 one since it will always stay on the same setting."

Screen Flickering?
|
All, this HDMI switch works well! If your screen flickers (probably with your ps3 like it did to mine), the switch is not defective. All you need to do hold down the power button on the ps3 until it beeps so it can adjust to a lower resolution. Then you go to the display settings of the ps3 and turn off deep field. Then you can reset your resolution on your ps3 to 1080p. The Monoprice.com tech guys are very helpful and will work with you to get this to function right. I love this unit!

Pros: 4 HDMI in, 1 out Works with my Logitech remote
Cons: Did not initially work with my PS3
I initially got this item because I was going to be mounting my TV on the wall and didn't want to have several HDMI cables hanging. One plus the power cord was acceptable. After setting everything up, all devices worked fine except my PS3. I tried every port and even switching out HDMI cables. In the end, this unit just didn't seem to want to support my PS3 at 1080p. I changed to 1080i and everything works fine.

MonoPrice HDMI 4x1 Switch
|
Pros: Small, inexpensive, compatible with Logitech Harmony Remotes
Cons: None
I have a Home AV Receiver connected to my 13 year old 42" plasma TV via component connections. Upon purchasing a new 65" plasma I found the new plasma didn't have component video inputs. I decided to purchase the MonoPrice to handle my HDMI devices (Plasma TV, Roku, AppleTV and Blu-ray) without purchasing a new AV receiver. The best aspect is the switch's compatibility with my Logitech Harmony Remote! All works great and I saved tons of money.

Pros: Nice, sturdy metal housing and comes with a remote.
I don't get how Monoprice can sell this unit for so cheap. I looked around and you'll pay at least double if you walk into a brick and mortar store. I didn't know what to expect because the price is so low but don't worry, the quality of the box is top notch. I'm very happy with my purchase...saved having to buy a new television.

Pros: *Solid quality *Works perfectly *Cheap *Fanless, making it noiseless (d`ough!)
Cons: *its a bit to light. The heavy 24AWG cables lift the box up *The remote has a very low WAF (wife acceptance factor). Something more like the Apple TV`s remote would be perfect ) *The lights are to bright *The switch didn't work with the recommended 24AWG HDMI cables for two of my devices. Had to use my
When I first opened the package I saw to my dissapointment that it contained a US wall plug, not a country-specific plug. Luckily I managed to get a cheap passive converter for the plug. The switch itself is very impressing, considering the nice price. I bought 4 new 24AWG cables along with it, as it was highly recommended by Monoprice, but these cables didn't work with my Xbox 360, nor to my receiver. For these to devices I had to use "regular" HDMI cables. For my PS3 and Media Senter, the 24AWG cables worked just fine. It took me a lot of time figuring out what was the problem though. When I first got everything up and running I`m very satisfied. The switch works with my Harmony One, and it takes no longer than the time my receiver uses to get the picture when switching source. The box itself is very solid, although a bit to light, which doesn't go well with the "stiff" 24AWG cables (the cables lift the back of the box up). I haven't used the remote that followed with the switch, but for anybody without a universal remote I would guess it does what its supposed to, although its a fantastic piece of plastic )
All in all I'm very happy with my purchase.

HDMI Switch
|
Pros: Easy to set up, performed exactly as advertised, and took care of my older widescreen which only had a single HDMI port. Now I can also hook the BluRay Player up to the box and switch the box from cable input to BluRay input, rather than changing the source on the TV which also required me to hook up the BluRay through 3 RJ11 jacks. I've also hooked up a third HDMI cable which I can hook up to my laptop as well...so 3 inputs to the TV as opposed to the limitations of having only one. Small convenient, remote works great as well.
Cons: None.

It is ok...
|
Pros: Good product if you have more HDMI devices than available HDMI ports. It worked with a blue ray player and a DirectTV set top box connected. 3D viewing also worked through this device.
Cons: I tried running a laptop PC through this device. It worked at first, but then the picture went away on the TV, and the audio was cracking and distorted. I tried using different ports, and swapped out different HDMI cables with no improvement.
When I bypassed the switch and directly connected the laptop to the TV, I had no issues. The picture and audio worked.
The issue seems to be in the switch. (unless there is some type of configuration I missed)
Overall it is a decent product. It did not perform well for me when connecting to an HP laptop (with Windows 7). The other devices I connected still work.

Pros: simple, easy to use, reliable, works with Harmony remotes
Cons: No power switch on unit and power is only remotely controlled.

Love the switch but remote doesn't work
|
Pros: Easy to set up Works as advertised Excellent price
Cons: Remote rarely works.
I got the switch promptly and set it up without a hitch. Works great for my needs. I have only once had the remote work even after getting new batteries in case the supplied ones were bad. I only have 2 devices connected so getting up and manually changing the inputs is not a big issue and hardly worth having to ship the whole thing back for replacement.

HDMI Switchbox
|
Pros: Works well, I am running my Fios Box, Blu-Ray Player, and Xbox 360 through it.
Cons: There is about a 3 second delay when switching inputs. This can cause some confusion when testing your set up.
This is a great solution to a limited number of inputs on the back of the television. The box is simple to set up and simple to use. I have no problem running the HDMI out through my sound bar system and into my television.
Make sure to use the premium grade HDMI cables with this switch box. I could not run my Fios box or my Blu-Ray player with the 28AWG HDMI wires.

HDMI 4X Switch
|
Pros: Easy to work. It's a simple box. Price was pretty good for something that I just needed to do one task (unlike most prices for HDMI parts like cables).
Cons: Loses monitor resolution when I switch from one device back to my monitor.
I bought this because I play my 360 and PS3 through my computer monitor. My computer's video card has DVI, so I put a DVI-HDMI adapter on it and ran it into the box along with my two consoles. The box is plugged into my monitor. When I run my 360, and then switch over to my computer, I lose my resolution settings and it reverts back to some default. And it's a pain in the neck to get my resolution back to the 1080P widescreen setting. For some reason my custom resolution settings aren't in the selection menu when I go to change my resolution back.
I still rated this box high because I think there might be a fix for my problem and it's not the box itself. I just haven't been able to find much support for my fix. When I get time to really dig in and fix the problem I'm sure I'll be 100% satisfied with it.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Thank you for your review. Have you by chance already tried updating your video card drivers to the latest one? It might help if it won't detect it properly. Also if you can try a physical HDMI DVI cable instead of using an adapter. It might help with detecting it properly. Thank you!

Pros: Works great and inexpensive. Remote takes AAA batteries instead of watch batteries.
Excellent product. My only suggestion would be to get rid of the bright red light power on the front of it. I don't intend to ever turn it off and the light is distracting. Going to put some electrical tape over it.

|
Pros: Product arrived within time frame in excellent condition. Works as advertized. Can switch between 4 HDMI inputs with little effort. Produces good quality picture on TV. I am very happy with this product so far(3 months).
Cons: Remote signal not quite as strong as I would likesometimes need to press twicecould be the angle. Takes 3 to 5 seconds to make the switch between cable box and DVR.

Pros: Arrived very fast. Unfortunately had significant distortion with my panasonic 300 series BR player Good news was very easy return. Mono price even sent me a reminder after I requested a return. Thanks Probably hit or miss with this product. But I would be happy to purchase from mono price again

Have you tried a different Blu-Ray?
What about a shorter and thicker cable?
Did you try a power cycling the Blu-Ray and switch?
What about trying another TV?
Did you try using a lower resolution to see if the distortion lessened?
Please let me know as this information will help us forward to our suppliers for quality checking purposes. Thank you and we really do appreciate your review!

by James I used new Sony high qaulity 6ft hdmi cables, onkyo tx 605 and a new Panasonic bd310. Reset everything several times checked all cables. Only problems with the blueRay. Fine on everything else. Tried everything. Power reset etc. Had no problems the GE 2 switch with quality. The GE wasn't perfect , had to manually pull out cable to switch . Replaced it with a Kinovo 5 switch. Works great with everything, great picture with the blueray. It also has a quirk that I have to turn the onkyo to the Xbox first befor starting xbox or the picture is small. Other than that no problem. Must have been just a conflict with my set up and the monoprice hdmi. Looked great and felt solid. I hated to return it but it's gotta work with my particular setup.
Thanks
You are welcome to include this with my reveiw, ... or not.

Unreliable with Blu-Ray players
|
Pros: Works with some devices.
Cons: Intermittent with at least two Blu-Ray players
My system has a Sharp flat screen and Panasonic sound bar driven by a Blu-Ray player, WDTV Live and DirecTV HD DVR. The WD and DVR work just fine, but the Panasonic DMP-BD75 I used at first was intermittent. Sometimes it would play the video & audio while other times the timer was advancing with nothing on the screen. Ejecting and restarting the movie sometimes worked, but not always. Thinking it was the player, I substituted a new Samsung BD-D5100, but still had problems. It wouldn't even display the initial setup menu. I had to move the player to another TV to do the initial setup.
I finally substituted a Monoprice HDX-501 from another system, and that switch works much better. Either I have a one-off problem with this switch, or this model has, perhaps, an HDMI negotiation bug. Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

It works!
|
Had a cheaper switch prior to this one. Due to HDCP (High Definition Copy Protection) schemes of the cable operator, it would not work properly. This switch works reliably and is well worth it. One problem is the difficulty of identifying which output is active due to the small LEDS all in a row.

Pros: This is a great piece of equipment and works wonderful with my apple TV and other stereo equipment. The remote works well and is very simple to use. This unit is small in size but big on value, and is very well constructed. I would highly recommend this product for anyone needing to add extra HDMI inputs to their TV.

Great Product!
|
Pros: Slim, small design. Very simple to use, either with the remote, or via the button on the unit.
Cons: Only quibble I have is that, though the power adapter is relatively small, it does block one, or two other plug openings in my power strip. Since the unit itself, the switcher, needs a place to reside, it's too bad the power unit cannot be incorporated into it, leaving only a stander male plug.
I previously owned a 3 slot hdmi switcher from Monoprice, and needed to upgrade to a 4 slot switcher. No need to look any further than Monoprice for my needs. It simply works!

Great switcher
|
Pros: Price, features, ease of Installation
Cons: Bright LED light, delay of switching
i have been amazed at the innovative products of monoprice yet affordable. i use the product for the bedroom tv with 1 hdmi input so I needed a HDMI splitter. I use both sony products, BD player and media player, there are no major issues and recommend this product to anyone. If the light annoys you and forget to turn it off hook it to the newer green power outlets so when the TV is off the Hdmi splitter sleeps as well.

Not sure what to rate it...
|
Pros: Works as advertised with my cable box, PS3.
Cons: One of the inside screws was completely loose(!) and rattling inside the casing.
As the title says, I'm not sure what rating to give for this switch. On the one hand, it does work as advertised with my Motorola cable box and PS3, with both going into the switch, then going out to a Denon receiver. The bonus is that now, the cable box doesn't reset resolutions every time I turn off the TV/receiver (a known problem with the Motorola boxes).
The problem is that when I received the unit, it had one of the inside screws completely loose. When I took the switch out of the box, it made a rattling noise. I was about to package it back up and send it back, but thought maybe there was a piece loose that I could just take out. I opened the unit, and saw that one of the silver screws was rattling around. The screw, which was supposed to be holding the PCB in the casing, was not where it should've been. I screwed it in the empty hole, put the unit back together, plugged it in, and tried it out. It worked, so I didn't bother going through with sending it back. However, I can see that being a problem for someone not as inclined/comfortable with opening up electronics, so I can't give it a high rating, even though it works. I'm not sure if that's a fair way to rate, but that's what I'm going with.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
My apologies for the issues you encountered dealing with the loose screw inside of your unit. I have forwarded this information onto our QC team for review and to ensure this doesnt happen in the future. Your review is actually posted, have you checked the other pages, it should be on page 5 to be exact? We are currently working on devising a way to better sort the reviews. I apologize for the incident you had with your switch, I believe it was an isolated case and small oversight on our part for our records don't show any similar cases. Also as I had mentioned this has been passed onto our QC team for review and all of our items do go through a QC check to minimize issues like this from happening. Pros: Very simple product and produces the quality of picture and audio it says it will do. Its still early to make a good claim on a product like a switch since time will tell its true worth. But my concerns over video quality initally have been satisfied. Great picture quality.
Cons: One out of the 4 ports only produces sound and not video. I only needed 2 ports and see nothing in my future that will require all 4 so I didnt return it. Other than this it works great!
by Monoprice Administrator Hello,
Thank you for your review. And I am truly sorry to hear of your experience you have had with this product. We will be taking your review into consideration so we can look into the PID#. Thank you for your understanding and patience in the matter.

|
Pros: A very high quality product at a great price.
Cons: Small box whose weight is overpowered by 5 HDMI cables connected to the back.
I was connecting a 3 new monitors, all with HDMI input, to my existing system. This little box made it a breeze and was more than worth the price. A little heavy duty velcro on the bottom and it now looks great and works like a charm in my system.

Cons: Remote works, but is of poor quality.
The HDMI switch works as advertised. No complaints there. However, the remote is of poor build quality. I feel like I'm going to break it. It works, but I have to press the individual input buttons very hard to change to the different inputs. Considering the price, a minor set back.

Great Device, Stay away from Ferrite Cores
|
Pros: Works great, at a great price
Cons: None, but probably best to cable without ferrite cores.
I used this switch to get some additional devices, including an AppleTV2, to my input limited Sony HDTV. I used a 1.5 foot Monoprice ferrite core HDMI cable to connect the AppleTV2 to the switch. The AppleTV2 was twitchy (often had to cycle it on an off several times to get the video signal to lock, and even then, it was sometimes garbled on the menu screen), while all the other devices worked fine. Read somewhere recently that ferrite cores can interfere with certain switches and are not recommended for such applications. I changed out the ferrite core, and sure enough, all problems solved. Relaying this only since it may help somebody else avoid the problem. This little HDMI switch works great though, buy it if you need more input options.

Great Product with Minor Limitations
|
Pros: Connects multiple HDMI inputs. Switches quickly. Great price.
Cons: Playstation 3 requires specific settings.
I am always happy to find the AV equipment that I need from monoprice and this was no exception. I couldn't find any HDMI switchers even close to the price. Their delivery was prompt.
I was a little nervous when I first switched to my PS3 and realized that I couldn't watch videos. There were a few settings that the great online customer support was able to help me with and I was up and running. The solution required a minor downgrade in some of the settings on the PS3, but it's negligible.

HDMI switch and Apple tv2
|
Pros: Excellent value for money Easy set up No connectivity problems with Apple tv 2
Cons: none so far
First bought a hdmi switch in the Netherlands to connect a new Apple tv2 together with a dvd-recorder to my HDTV (Loewe individual, 5 years old and only 1 HDMI port). Despite many start-ups, cable changes etc, my Apple tv2 did not function at all. However, directly connected, its function was flawless. Searched the internet and came across Monoprice. Talked to tech support and they advised to buy this device. After set-up , both devices worked without any problem and continue to do so.

monoprice is wrong
|
Pros: Switch works great, even with cheap 26awg 3 foot wires
Cons: monoprice claims about needing 4 foot long 24awg HDMI cables
Rating a 10 because it is cheap and works just fine, even with my Harmony One remote which already had the codes for it. I was hoping monoprice was better than trying to push a sale of more expensive HDMI cables, but it appears they are no better than any other retail store. Their claims about needing at least 24awg cables that are 4 feet or longer are just not true. The cheap 3 foot 26awg cables that I also got here work fine. Even the free HDMI cable that was included with a cable company installation in 2005 works fine. It's a digital signal, it either gets there or it doesn't. If you have really long cables, like over 15 feet you may need a newer category 2 certified cable but most should work fine.
The huge red note on the product page about the more expensive cables being highly recommended is intentionally misleading. I can't help but think that the reviews that claim only 24awg cables work for them are fake. Shame on you monoprice, you know what you're trying to do here.
by Monoprice Administrator Hello mcewen98,
Thank you for your review. Regarding 24awg, we still do highly recommend them for best compatibility. Since there is so many different setup out there, having the cables factored out helps you in determining whether is it an incompatibility issue, cable length, or handhsaking issue. Some setups may work with 28awg, but that usually only happens on short runs and non-bandwidth intensive video(such as 720p). I hope this clarifies it for you. Thanks!
