Route 66 Modern - Solid Body Electric Guitar - Honey Burst

So what do you do if you have a successful product launch, like we've had with our Route 66 Vintage Solid Body Guitars? Well, if you're Monoprice you listen to customer feedback, make improvements, and release a new version that addresses those concerns. Enter the new Route 66 Modern Solid Body Electric Guitar from Monoprice!

The most obvious change is that we've eliminated the plastic pick guard and the plastic label around the pickup select switch. This allows you to see all of the beautiful finish of your choice, without being obscured by the plastic bits. In a bid to modern styling, we've sharpened the horn below the cutaway, giving an "edgier" look to the guitar body.

One of the standard complaints about the Vintage version was the quality of the strings. Not only have we increased the gauge from 0.009 to 0.010 inch on the high E string, but we are now using our coated strings, for increased durability as well as sonic excellence.

Finally, we adjusted the orientation of the volume and tone knobs. The entire knob assembly was rotated 90° counterclockwise so that the orientation of the knobs corresponds to the orientation and location of the pickups. So the neck pickup, which is on your left when wearing the guitar, is controlled by the leftmost knobs, while the bridge pickup (on the right) is controlled by the rightmost knobs.

The rest of the guitar remains the same as the Route 66 Vintage model. It is a full-sized, 22-fret guitar with a basswood archtop single-cutaway body, a bolt-on maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and chrome machine heads/tuning pegs. It uses two dual-coil humbuckers, which produce the distinctive sound used in southern rock, heavy metal, electric blues, reggae, and classic hard rock. A three-position switch on the body above the fingerboard allows you to easily select between the bridge and neck pups, or both together.

Before it gets shipped to you, each Monoprice guitar undergoes a setup, tuning, and inspection process by Master Luthier Roger Gresco here in Southern California. The setup ensures that the neck is straight, the action is right, and that it will stay in tune. Additionally, it comes with everything you need to get started, including strings (installed), a heavy-duty zippered black gig bag with shoulder strap, and a truss-rod wrench.

Body Style Archtop Single-Cutaway with Dual Humbuckers

Pros: well-built, good quality, awesome tone

Cons: Tuners feel a little cheap

Bought one based on the reviews, could not go wrong. Great guitar for the money, easily same caliber as an Epiphone Les Paul. Tuners do feel a little cheap, gonna replace them with locking Grover's. Other than that, could not go wrong, especially for the price.

Pros: Huge bang for the buck, beautiful instrument, great playability, great sound, responsive customer service

Cons: First guitar I received had bad buzz (which Monoprice took back and made right)

First guitar that was shipped looked beautiful, electronics were great but there was an annoying fret buzz from a low fret. Communicated with customer service and was issued an RMA without any hassle. Shipped back at no cost to me and had a replacement back in my hands in no time at all. The replacement looks equally beautiful. The paint job and the finish are flawless. Action is just the way I like it - low and fast. Almost, but not quite buzzy. The sound is great too. The pickups are pretty hot and sound fantastic overdriven through my Musicman HD130 amp (tubes). I can't find one thing I don't like about it, and given the price I'd highly recommend it to anyone, with the exception of someone who cares that the logo on the headstock doesn't say Gibson.

    Exceptional Les Paul Sound!!

    Pros: - great tone
    - great action and playability
    - no buzzing
    - the honey burst color looks stunning

Cons: - makes we want to pick up another in a different color!

As a novice starting out, I did a lot of research and finally bought the Epiphone Les Paul Standard. Though it's a great guitar, I wasn't entirely satisfied. After going through a couple of Squire strats (Bullet SSS, HH) I took a chance and ordered the California Classic and loved it so much, I ended up getting rid of the Epiphone and Squier strats. Though I had my sights set on the Route 66 I didn't quite pull the trigger yet. The Squier strats were actually very good and I ended up buying not one but two more: a 50's Classic Vibe and an Affinity HSS, both of which are great guitars and I still have them. Just recently, I ordered the Route 66 and after receiving it and plugging it in to my amp, I couldn't believe how great it sounded It has such a great tone and terrific action right out of the box. Though I don't have the Les Paul Standard anymore, I think this is the better guitar and I don't intend to part with it. Thank you Monoprice for such an awesome guitar at an unbelievable price!

Pros: Nice price, plays well, nice finishing, balanced sound (comparing to other guitars and betweeem 2 pickups-bridge and neck), intonation perfect, unknown strings (but sounds okay), it came without a guitar strap (I bought a 5 buck one and did the job).

    Cons: none so far.

Cherry sunburts. Very happy with the product and after reviewing it on the web (youtube reviews) I was not sure if it was a paid review or a candid review. it turn out to be true. Unpacking the guitar as on many reviews, and for my surprise, after 3 days (or more) on a truck, it was received in Florida in a 90F temperature and it was in tune. Unbelivable. Very happy! I would buy another golden finish if I have the opportunity, but want to try the Telecaster first.

    Flawless Guitars!

Pros: Flawless guitars. (I have bought two Monoprice guitars in the last six months one for me and one for a student.) There is nothing wrong with them! The wood, hardware, pickups, electronics, and finish are all fine. None of the things that normally plague low-cost electric guitars (loose female phone plug assemblies sharp fret ends that cut your left hand neck irregularities uneven nuts electrical problems) are an issue here. Most of my other guitars are in the $600 to $3000 range these Monoprice guitars are just as good!

Cons: I've been playing guitar since 1951 and teaching guitar since 1977, and I can find nothing whatsoever wrong with Monoprice guitars. No cons detected in the last six months, and I play my Monoprice every day.

Flawless pro-quality. Maybe there are better pickups out there but I can make my Monoprice (I bought their telly-lookalike for myself and got the Route 66 for a student) sound as good as anything. The neck and intonation are perfect, the wood is dense and heavy and resonant, the locking tuners work fine, and all the details are in place. I would recommend Monoprice guitars to anyone., and I plan on buying more of their products before the price goes up!
