I bought this 4K monitor to view 4K videos streamed from YouTube as well as my own videos created with a GoPro Hero 4 Black action camera. From YouTube, I streamed The Streets of Japan in 4K as well as Steel Dragon 2000 Roller Coaster in 4K. I encountered stuttering when streaming. It was difficult to determine if the problem was the 4K monitor, my video card or internet connection. I then downloaded the videos from YouTube and was pleased with the results. I then tried to produce 4K videos with my GoPro Hero 4 Black camera. Some of my videos looked no better than HD but several were excellent in 4K. My experience with this 4K monitor at this point is as follows. Some 4K videos look excellent but some will look no better than HD. Don't be surprised if you are disappointed with some 4K videos.

Was very good until it broke

    Pros: Price, Weight

    Cons: HDMI failed buttons

I think I could love this monitor. In fact, I think I was in love with this monitor for several minutes, until things went horribly wrong.

I had ordered a DisplayPort cable with the monitor, but I foolishly ordered too short a cable. My fault entirely. So, eager to get it up-and-running, I used an HDMI cable instead. All was good full 4k resolution very crisp. Refresh rate was low (expected due to HDMI input) but absolutely acceptable.

I went into the menus on the monitor and wanted to try out the 'multi-window' feature. I often use two machines side-by-side, and I was intrigued about the possibility of having each PC occupy 1/2 of the screen.

    This was a terrible mistake.

First, I didn't have the inputs set correctly for the multi-window, so I think it tried to display an unconnected input on one side. This, in turn, resulted in a "no input so let's go to sleep" condition. When this monitor goes to sleep, it is almost impossible to regain control. Without a valid input, you'll be hard pressed to get the menu back up.

When I finally regained control and switched back to just HDMI/full-screen, it because evident that something was wrong. It was as if the monitor no longer would send EDID via HDMI. My PC decided it was a generic non-PnP monitor with very low resolution. All other laptops simply refused to display anything via HDMI.

FWIW, the other ports do seem to be operational, but I want to use both DisplayPort and HDMI to attach two devices. Try as I may, I cannot get HDMI to operate as it did when I took the monitor out of the box. The 'reset' menu command seems to do little.

I contacted Monoprice support but did not hear back.

Speaking of menus wow, the buttons on this monitor are bad. They are placed poorly, are not well aligned with the text on the bezel, and the menuing system is poorly designed. I just want to easily switch inputs, like on every other monitor and TV made in the past 20 years.

If I had the monitor that I took out of the box, I'd be happy. But, right now, I have a monitor which does not perform as advertised.

Order VESA stand or mount with this monitor

Pros: Amazing performance / price. The high resolution with large size allows one to see more windows at once. This really improves productivity. Use home audio and video recording studio.
    Thanks Monoprice.

Cons: We all know - the stand, so make provision up front.

Having read the reviews here, I also ordered http://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=109&cp_id=10828&cs_id=1082822&p_id=3613&seq=1&format=2 a simple lowest cost $3.00 wall mount, which I attached to a home made (stiff) stand. This works great.
The issue with that supplied with the monitor stand is its stiffness, being cheap plastic. Even if you want to set it and forget it, vibrations of the desk will cause the monitor to move, so just make your arrangements for a stand and be pleased as I am that the money and design has been invested in the best monitor screen for its price out there.

    Pros: Price, quality of panel

    Cons: Stand

This is a great monitor for the price. I've been quite pleased with it.

I do have two things to note:

    1. As others have said, the stand is not so goodit can be adjusted, but it's very wobbly, so adjustments must be done carefully with both hands. But let's be honest, this monitor is at the lower end of the price range for 4K monitors. That cost savings has to come from somewhere, and I would rather they skimp on something that is easily replaced by the customer than on the panel itself. Finding an inexpensive monitor mount is easy enough on Monoprice. On the other hand, as long as you don't need move the monitor around a lot, it does the job adequately.

    2. Please note that the DisplayPort connecter only works if the signal comes from a DP 1.2 source. So if you have a nice HDMI to DP cable, or a DVI to DP cable, those WILL NOT WORK. This may be common knowledge for some, but DP connectors on lower-end monitors are still relatively new, and I had never run across this particular scenario before. The manual does indeed say this, and I was able to confirm that the DP connector on my unit does work when connected to a DP 1.2 source. Anyway, this is worth noting if you're looking for those DP frequenciesdon't panic if the DP input doesn't work when connected to an HDMI or DVI port.

Other than that, again, great monitor for the price! I hope this bodes well for future Monoprice forays into higher-end Monoprice branded items.

Big, bright and beautiful. Has lots of useful features. Setup menu is easy to use(that's unusual). This monitor has more resolution than I can currently use. It supports many resolution settings on VGA. Nice and sharp. Good contrast and brightness. Good response time. PIP features are somewhat useful. Supports HDMI audio channel(Only need one cable with HDMI). Built-in speakers are about what you'd expect for a TV this size. As noted in other reviews here, there is a little light bleed around the bottom. For computer use it's at an acceptable level. I only notice it with a black screen. I've had it about four weeks now. No problems so far.
