It mounts to a tripod or monopod using a standard 3/8"x16 thread mounting screw.

This will do the job, but don't expect high professional quality. Paired with the Monoprice Carbon Fiber Tripod, this makes a great economical light travel tripod. The Quick Release Plate is square which allows you to turn the camera around 90 or 180 degrees for more flexibility. The bubble levels are practically useless since there is no level for the horizon. The level should be on the back of the head which will allow leveling on the horizon or left to right. With all the controls all locked up, I don't how steady this head will be in a wind and with a 30 second exposure. The adjusting knob that controls locks the horizontal and vertical plane is not long enough and hits the center column unless you turn the knob in a little first. One good observation, the pan control is damped enough to use for video allowing for smooth and jerk free pans.

PROS: Compact, relatively light weight. Will do the job.

CONS: Control knobs not beefy enough, and one's just too short. Bubble levels not useful at all.
