    Camera Head Micro Ball Fixed

Add a professional ball joint head to your tripod or monopod using this Micro Ball Fixed Camera Head from Monoprice!

This camera head is constructed of aviation grade anodized aluminum for superior strength and durability, as well as light weight. It features a quick release sliding plate with a patented safety locking system to ensure that your camera does not accidentally fall off the head, even when the QR lever is released.

The sliding plate features a standard 1/4"x20 threaded screw mount and rubber pads to ensure a positive grip on your camera, while preventing any scratching caused by slack in the mount. It includes two levels, one horizontal and the other vertical, so that it can be adjusted for exact leveling whether it is used horizontally, or tilted 90 degrees to one side.

A single locking lever on the body locks both the ball joint and the panning base. The base features a mark every 5 degrees of panning, so you can accurately adjust for panoramic shots. The head mounts onto a standard 3/8"x16 threaded head mount screw.

The head is 2.3" (58mm) tall, weighs 4.2 oz. (120g), and supports up to 13.2 lbs. (6kg) of weight.

    Good price
The price point on this item is very good. The item pictures online make it seem much larger than it really is, for it is tiny. Also, the design is a curious thing. Trying to rotate the camera while it is on a trip brings mixed results. Those results translate into, 1) Am I actually unscrewing a part of the head instead of simply performing a basic pan rotation? 2) Does it even rotate 360 degrees or am I allowed only so much turning ability?

Also, the product also spews grease or a lubricant agent during basic operation which isn't fun to clean up either. When you're out in the field and need to get a shot, the last thing you want to do is stop down to find a wet nap to clean your hands...missing the shots you need. Will the head continue to spew goo for an unspecified amount of time? Probably. Again, this unit fits the bill in a pinch based on price, but I'll probably be looking to find a different one from elsewhere once the holidays are over. I love monoprice but this one needs a bit more practical attention.

    PROS: Price point

    CONS: - Confusing operation
    - Spews grease
    - Not smooth/predictable panning or turning of device even when even unlocked

    Not as descripbed
This does not have the levels that are mentioned in the description. The thread on the bottom does not fit a standard camera tripod as it's 3/8" instead of 1/4.

The unit I received had clearly been used with rings and scratch marks on the bottom.

    PROS: Construction looks ok.

    CONS: Not as advertised.
