    Well built
I haven't had the tripod out in the field yet but my initial impression is that it's very well built and offers excellent stability. It's a bit heavier than I would like for backpacking trips but I guess that's the price you pay for stability and ruggedness. It took me awhile to figure out how to refold the legs as the latch mechanism is not intuitive.

PROS: Solidly built, rugged, easy to adjust the legs

    CONS: A bit heavy

Decent high capacity tripod, legs could be taller
This is a pretty good tripod, if not excellent for the money. The tubes are rigid, the weight is reasonable, and the ability to unscrew a leg and convert to a monopod is fantastic if you travel and want the best of both worlds.

Using a giottos mh-1001 ball head I can still fold this up and fit it in its own bag., so portability is excellent.

    I have 2 complaints.
    1) The leg locks need to be turned fairly tight to prevent accidental slippage. Once tight though they are good, and loosening them is not an issue. It would be nice if they fully tightened with less effort.

    2) It would also be nice if the leg tubes were longer to allow for a more stable platform at eye level without extending the center post which sacrifices vibration stability. I would trade the center post all together to get an extra foot of height from the legs alone.

PROS: Reasonable weight, good stability, price, portability

CONS: Stability at full extension, leg locks could be better.

the tripod # 12154 only has the think screw and I cannot mount my camera directly. Does it mean that I have to buy a ball head or some adapter?
