PROS: Extremely good value
Great quality, especially considering the price
PROS: This lighting stand is well constructed and completely as advertised. I've use similar lighting stands from Guitar Center, Musician's Friend, and American Musical Supply and this stand is of the same quality or better and at a much cheaper price.
CONS: As with all the other lighting stands I've used from competitors there is a bit of rusty dust inside part of the telescoping piece of the stand.
PROS: Very Versatile, quick setup, parts in changeable.
CONS: Plastic needs strengthening on joints, or some form of upgrade part.
Monoprice seems to have listened to previous reviews, as the unit I received had instructions with images to help identify the parts. The instructions could certainly have been clearer, but it wasn't too hard to figure it out and get the whole thing set up.
PROS: Inexpensive and sturdy
CONS: Bulky. The minimum height of the unit I received seems to be around 8 feet, so keep that in mind if your vertical space is limited (using it in normal house situations)
PROS: Seems to be solid once it's assembled. Price is great, less than a single stand elsewhere.
CONS: No instructions included. Took some trial and error, as well as referring to pictures online to get it assembled.
There are quite a few pieces to this puzzle, and unfortunately, the documentation doesn't label them at all. It will say things like "select truss bar assembly which has a short tube", etc. It would be great if the manufacturer had a legend at the beginning of the instructions (like 95% of all instructions include), that shows a layout of all your parts, as well as the names of them. After spending thirty minutes on the first three steps, I realized I had the parts backwards, and had to start all over.
My only other issue (I have two of these stands, and this happened with both of them) is that the holes between products don't always line up. I've had to drill holes myself in order to get all the T-connectors installed. It would be better if all the holes lined up.
These appear to be strong aluminum stands and overall, the build quality seems high. It is also an amazing value, as I've spent more for just one tripod. With this system, you get 2 tripods and about 10 feet of truss to use.
PROS: Build Quality for the most part is decent. Seems pretty heavy duty.
CONS: NO documentation/instructions shipped with the product. Have to go back to the Monoprice website to find them. Holes don't all line up — requires user drilling, possibly compromising the structural integrity.
PROS: The price is right. It's stable, and tall, once you get it together.
CONS: Cumbersome to assemble. The fasteners used strip VERY easily. The quality of steel in the fasteners is really bad. There is one section that slides into the other section, and the way the shoulder is, it gets wedged in there very easily and is nearly impossible to pull apart again. Some of the holes don't line up very well either.
