    Great Bass!

Pros: I was impressed by the craftsmanship, playability and overall feeling. This Bass has a great neck, good pickups and good sustain. Though I updated the pickups and it really does sound and feel close to a p-bass.

Cons: None. just add a solid case in options.

    Plays Great

Pros: Really loving it. Tuners are nice, neck is great, frets fine

Cons: Input Jack wobbles, and connection is flakey

This is a very nice bass. Sounds great, with one caveat (see below) which I am not too worried about, because I enjoy tweaking things, especially instruments and amps.

Input jack is on the plastic pick guard like the Fender P Bass, but I am guessing that either the Fender has some kind of backing or a more substantial pick guard. I have been using an older input cord with plug that seems to be made to a different spec, smaller than the Monoprice ones. So I think that might contribute to the problem. I will take it apart and tighten it and post back then.

Pros: Excellent quality at this price point. Hardware is solid. Good setup.

    Cons: Strings

I've been playing guitar for about ten years, and wanted to try bass. I looked at some used instruments, but anything that was decent was still way more money than this. I read the reviews, and decided to take the plunge. I ended up getting mine on sale, and with free shipping. So for less than $130 to my door, I think I got a heck of a deal. I have some mid level guitars, Epiphone Les Paul, MIM Strat, Godin Freeway Classic, Squier CV Telecaster, so I know what a decent guitar feels and sounds like. This Monoprice bass is just what I was looking for. A quality starter bass, that won't hold you back. It seemed like the strings would stretch forever, but they finally stopped stretching, and now it stays in tune really well. Fit and finish on mine was excellent, but with import guitars, the quality can vary from one to the next. Overall I am really satisfied with my purchase.

Follow up review shielding and noise

OK, my previous review was quite glowing, but I did eventually realize that the shielding/grounding was not very good. The bass was quiet when I put my hand on the bridge, but quite noisy when my hand was off the bridge. (I use nylon-wrap strings so that didn't help electrical contact.)

I decided to crack it open and see if I could fix it, and sure enough, no shielding. What did we expect for this price, right?

The good news is, I did my best to shield it with copper foil using standard techniques and now there is virtually no noise. That is to say, the (now very minimal) noise is the same whether my hand is on the bridge or not.

So, yeah! It can be fixed, if you care. (Unlike my Squier strat which is hella noisy no matter how much I try to shield it!!!! Grrrr)

Anyway, still a nice bass for the price, can't complain. Doing your own shielding on a budget-price axe is kind of a given, I guess...

GREAT Bass for the price but needed adjustment in my case

    Pros: great price, finish, sound

Cons: fret buzzing (neck too straight out of the box and action too low). strings are okay but should be replaced IMO

great, flawless finish. all hardware seems to be working fine.
for me - the setup was "a lot off". I had to dig up some youtube videos (there is a great 4 part video set on there how to tune a bass).
first I adjusted the neck tension as it was too flat (too much tension)
then adjusted the bridge (were too low). this eliminated about 99% of the string buzzing).
Have not checked the intonation yet and got a new set of Ernie ball strings to be put on the bass.
I am by origin a guitar player (got Les Paul Studio and electric acoustic Ibanez) so cannot provide a solid Bass expert review.
Overall I think this bass is a steal for the price, just should have waited a bit longer to pick it up for less than 100 (at Cyber monday) LOL...
